Oh, and Christmas. I have told people that I'm just not doing Christmas this year! I usually don't have too many gifts to sort out... Oh, heck. I'm going to have to get things for the inlaws this year, too!

I have a feeling none of that will happen before about December 21st.

capecodder · 04/10/2007 17:04

A big thanks for everyone being so very lovely and welcoming. It has made me rather tearful- but that's what its like these days.

To answer your questions- I am not a 'real' Cape Codder- not born and bred but was living there before I moved to UK for gorgeous English husband.

Not on MAT leave yet- last day on Nov. 2nd. I know it seems a bit late to keep working but people in my office couldn't be nicer and I'm only 10 minutes away from home. So at this point in time it feels right.

My hopes for the birth would ideally be a water birth. But am really open to anything from pethedine to an epidural- trying to be open minded so I don't get disappointed. Am fairly petite- 5ft size 6 (before, anyway) and the baby is looking rather large so it may even be a C-section. I have to say that even at 33 weeks it doesn't seem real and I find the idea of actually having a baby rather implausbile. Anyone else feel that way?

Thanks again for all of the kindness.

RGPargy · 04/10/2007 17:32

Jet - Glad your hospital is equipped with WB stuff. Our hospital didn't even have a WB unit til a couple of weeks ago so i can imagine you'd have no chance of getting in there! I've opted for a HWB and i'm really looking forward to it!

O.... M.....G!!!! You have a SPREADSHEET for presents you've bought?!!! Hahahaha that is UBER organised!!!! Fantastic!! Blimey, you make me sound like a present slob!! I do love wrapping tho. I always make sure they are wrapped very neatly and as fancy as i can do them (shape permitting!). Not sure what i'm going to be doing about Xmas this year tho. Think it'll probably just be money in cards for nieces and nephews etc and something nice for DP, DS and PIL.

Aiki - i bet you are mega excited about things finally falling into place at home! How exciting! DP arriving AND baby arriving, all in the space of about 2 months!! Yay!!

Capecodder - really at you being a size 6! Being a lard-ass i can only DREAM of being that thin. It just aint gonna happen!! Hope you get your waterbirth. There are quite a few of us on here that are homebirth hopefuls I know what you mean about having a baby still not seeming 100% real yet. It's funny coz over the last couple of days i've been getting a bit jittery about the prospect of giving birth again and the whole enormity of it all still has me flapping my mouth fish-fashion if i think too much about it!!

berrybliss · 04/10/2007 18:08

Well nothing everer exciting happens to me....... BUT last night went to bed with a racing heartbeat. Thought that if it continued through to the morning would call the MW unit at Hosp.

Woke up at 3.30 feeling really sick and light headed and heart still irregular. Drank water and tried to go to bed but felt really sick. So called the hosp and they said it was best to come in.

They did all my checks and everything was coming back normal LO had a strong heartbeat and was wiggling loads. (so wasn't too worried about him!)

I had to stay in to wait for the consultant to check me over due to my past history, so they kept me in which i wasn't expecting. I had nothing with me so got to wear a stunning hospital gown

The ward was so quiet which was strange with all those little newborns about. But in the morning it was a little more how i expected it to be and not soo erie. The room i was in was next to a birthing suite. It was awful.... all i could hear was this poor woman screaming her head off.

Which made me feel a bit sick, and all the crying babies made me feel a bit funny think motherly instict kicking in.

The consultant was ment to see me at 8/9 and didn't come round till 2!! can't complain as there were lots of emergency C secs that morning. But when he came to see me he hadn't read my notes and didn't really answer any of my questions properly.
Just said because i was so aneamic and the increased blood flow with growing baby was the reason for my heartrate.

Got 34 week check up tomo, but the midwives are unsure of what to do about my iron levels (not there area, they only look at HB levels) so i'm a bit peed off as i don't know where to go with it. What birthing options i have. I want a HB but feel that it will be unlikely.

I just wish the consultant had spent more than 5 minutes with me and answered my questions instead of dissmissing them.
I keep having blood tests but nobody ever goes through them with me. My Doctors lovely but is also unsure of what to do as my results are so unusual and it's not her area.

What do you think i should do to get someone to listen to me???? Or at least take 20 minutes to explain to me whats actually wrong!!!!

Sorry for rant at end. Just realised how peed off i am now!

Hi to capecodder!

Iris-sorry to hear about not being able to have the birth you would have hoped for.

FCH-enjoy your maternity leave!

SGK-yay good news about callum, the newborns that i saw today were lovely and i bet you can wait to have him home!

Pixiefish · 04/10/2007 19:21

We've got gushing blinking water everywhere. A leak int he road outside which dh has managed to fit. Then the bathroom has just sprung a leak. Think it's sorted now and luckily it's downstairs with a concrete floor so no ceilings to come in.

The good news is that the caravan has been bought over from next door. needs siting this weekend, getting water, waste and electricity onto it and then we can rent it out and get an income from the place next spring

Evening All,

Littleoldme - if you didn't have the cheesecake then you could always drop it by mine this evening...?

I am kind of glad I'm due at the start of the month rather than the end. If I was listening to everyone talking about being later on in pregnancy, I would be constantly feeling like mine was going slow.

But, on the other hand, those due later on get to think about issues in advance of when they need to. i.e. packing bags, sorting nurseries out, booking birth pools etc. And you get a few weeks of hearing our postnatal rantings to prepare you for your own LOs!

Thanks for the words of encouragement RG, Loopy etc - it's a dream come true to be able to say second baby was full term

LK2 - About inlaws - yours sound like a nightmare. The birth of our DS was the low point of our marriage purely because of tensions caused by inlaws. They came to stay for 2 weeks and looking back, MIL made no demands of me. She did all the cooking and cleaning and didn't expect me to lift a finger. But the point was that I was already very upset and emotionally up and down due to DS being prem and I just wanted my home to myself.

I felt like my home had been invaded and got cross about silly things like if the coffee table wasn't where it usually goes. I could ramble for pages but to cut and long story short, DH ended up having to balance my needs with his family's instead of putting me first.

This time I have decided to take control and rather than feel like she's invading, I have invited MIL to come and stay. Bizarre I know but if you can't change something, you have to change your attitude to it.

I just refuse to let anyone else ruin this experience for me!

I feel all zen-like and empowered now

Sympathies for all of you having to make Christmas arrangements. We don't celebrate Christmas but do have our end of Ramadan festival coming up. Luckily all cooking will be done by mum at her place or by MIL at her place. We just get to pop in and enjoy the fruits of their labour In fact, my plans for the day are to go to the in-laws, eat, wash a dish or two until someone comes along and tells me to leave it, and then I shall escape upstairs for a nap.

In fact, we might have an antenatal class on the day so DH suggested we go to that first and then go visit relatives. I NEVER thought he would ever suggest prioriting antenatal classes over family duties

But I do send out Christmas cards so need to make sure my address book is up-to-date...

Iris - bad luck on the sugar levels All I can say is that at least it should all clear up once LO arrives.

Sparkly - I'm so made up for you!!! How quick was that?! Congrats!!!

Thankyou but my hb is normalish, its all the other aspects of my full blood count are messed up, either way too low or way too high. My Iron stores are very low and there's something wrong with my folate or something. As no one has taken the time to through my results with me, i don't really understan what they mean. I've just seen them in my notes.

It shows my results, then what is normal by the side. None of mine is normal.

I've never seen the same midwife twice!! Or consultant or obstitrician(sp?) Its annoying because everyone i see just says 'Oh this is unusual i've never seen results like this before' or something on those lines. They end up calling someone else in the hospital or another hospital, who will explain to them but they don't explain it to me. I then get told i need more blood taken and its just an on going cycle.

Berrybliss. I have a blood disorder (have had it for 21 years) and its reall causing me problems this time round.

Make an appointment to see your gp and ask him to explain it to you- you need to know.

If your red cells are low its unlikely you'll get your hb though

berrybliss · 04/10/2007 20:50

I know its rubbish

But i think i'm going to write a list of questions to ask the MW tommorrow and if she unable to answer them(because its not her area)i'll ask if she could refer me to someone who maybe can!!!

Its not anyones fault really, its just annoying that i never seem to be informed, and nothing seems to be resolved! Lots of contradicting advice! But i know my little chaps ok because he's always very active!Thats the most important thing for me!

berrybliss · 04/10/2007 21:00

My GP is really lovely but last time i went in to talk about my results she said she was unsure about what to do and spent ages on the phone to obstitrician. She Just told me not worry and wait for another blood test in 4 weeks time. I wasn't too worried its just my funny turn thats worried me really now, as i don't actually know why my blood is so 'unusual' and what to do if it doesn't get better. Its just odd as HB levels have improved with tablets which was intial worry its just the other aspects that haven't really improved or got worse.

iris66 · 04/10/2007 21:21

Hi all - thanks for the kind words. I've spent most of the day researching stuff (between bouts of sobbing)to avoid the "being strapped to a table with monitors and drips" kind of birth I had last time and think I've got some reasonable evidence from the AIMS website to present to the consultant next week wrt the safety of no insulin/sugar IV (just regular testing) and 15min foetal monitoring (assuming no synto drip). I cancelled the HB visit on Tues as I think realistically I will want to be in hospital to deliver "just in case" but I fully intend to have as mobile and intervention free labour as I possibly can.I now really want this baby out so DH better watch out when he gets home next week and I'll be getting the pineapples in as soon as I hit the golden 37wk mark a week on mon!!

choudru - taking ownership and control of your expectations is key isn't it. You speak very wisely

berrybliss - you have my sympathy. I agree with Loopy though - you are entitled to an appointment so you can have everything explained clearly to you at the very least!

jetgirl - ignore those who take the mick, safe in the knowledge that when everyone else's brain goes competely on delivery of LO's you will know exactly what's what because of your spreadsheet (I have a big book and do exactly the same )

SparklyGothKat - that is fabulous news I bet your other DC's can't wait to get him home either. Brilliant. (did you find out who that song you put on your montage, was by in the end?)

Littleoldme - I'll join you in cheesecake for brekkie next week (oh, and fruit...how I crave fruit!!! - blackcurrant cheesecake? )

FCH - I had a new red coat last Christmas too (Planet) and can't wait to take a stroll out in it (with my Gwyneth girdle on - naturally ) We could start a trend lol

Loopy - I see we have similar ideas regarding ladygarden maintenance what eye can't see.....

RGPargy - sooooo....... those cloth nappies you're going to trial from your local council and get £15 cashback when you decide to buy. Which ones have you decided on then? (blame Loopy, I'm easily lead )

Hi to everyone else I've missed (with over 50 of us now it's getting a bit hard to keep up isn't it!) I'm going to dose myself up with "stuff" and go to bed (why is it that sinus pain can so easily be describes as having been kicked in the face?!) night all

Jossiejump · 04/10/2007 21:50

Swollen-have you checked that DD has not got threadworms-DS2 has had them twice and both times it caused him to wet the bed each night.

ChocolateHobnob · 04/10/2007 21:52

Hi all

Iris - you're being so positive, it's great. I wish I liked pineapples but I hate them!!! I could drink pineapple juice - would that work? I really don't want to be induced and am sure I will be...

Berry, it sounds like your care's been v patchy. I do see the same mw every time. She's also the one who'll come once lo arrives. Often she's with the community health worker who will come with her. I think you should ask to speak to someone at the hospital.

Aiki, I didn't understand what you said about your DP. Has he been working away?

Jetgirl, your spreadsheet made me laugh and then think, what a good idea!! I'd never keep it up though. I'm going to start planning my gifts on a Word doc and then order them online if poss.

Lo has moved even further down- not just bouncing but sitting on my pelvic floor! Or so it feels. It's low enough to mean that putting knees together feels uncomfortable because the bump feels confined.

Oh and I've been craving Wispas since someone told me she'd found them at the w/e and has been mainlining them since, but couldnt find any, and now DH has found some! Result!

Too tired to read back through everything now, so more tomorrow. Take care all!

RGPargy · 04/10/2007 23:48

Evening everyone!

I met my old work mate after work tonight who is currently on ML (her DD is 3 months old) and she has given me two big bags full of clothes! i really dont think my LO will actually need any more clothes now. I think the only thing she will need (possibly) is a snow suit type thing for when i take her on my daily walks up to Asda.

Berry - so about your rotten stay in hospital. It must be so infuriating for you when nobody explains anything to you. There's no excuse for the lack of information really is there. if THEY know what it says on the notes, what's wrong with actually telling YOU what it all means?!!

Loopy - when you wake up in the morning you'll be 32 weeks! yay!!! you're not that far behind me (3 days) so at least you can follow my lead. Did someone say cloth nappies??? LA LA LA LA!!

Choudru - Glad you are feeling all empowered re the in-laws. Hormones can play funny tricks on your perception of things, cant they. "That blade of grass does NOT bend that way!! " Gawd.... i wonder if i'll get all arsey and hormonal with DP. I might have to pre-warn him about that, if his baby book hasn't already done so!

Iris - you sound alot more positive about the hospital birth now. Just make sure you keep a certain amount of control over the situation and dont let them bully you! Cloth nappies? erm..... eh? sorry, gone a bit deaf in my old age.....

Choc - i know how you feel re baby using the pelvic floor as a trampoline. I dont think i've been able to close my legs for months! That's what got me into this mess in the first place!!

Oh and if you fancy any more retro sweets, i got a massive order delivered the other day from THESE PEOPLE. If you have GD, DO NOT LOOK AT THE LINK!!!!

Talking of sweeties, going to have a quick munch and then going to bed.

N'night all!!

iris66 · 05/10/2007 04:54

I'm sure parenthood forces you to become an earlybird Can't say I'm that impressed though as there's only a certain amount of things you can do in the early morning without waking everyone up isn't there. I've got a wash in, breadmaker on and porridge sat soaking for later. I should do battle with my 4' pile of ironing but really can't be bothered (yet) It is nice to have the peace though

Sparkly - hope all goes well with bringing Callum home today.

Pixiefish · 05/10/2007 07:58

Berry- you say you don't know why your blood has gone funny- probably becasue you're pregnant. It will probably go back to normal after the baby is born. The baby is putting a strain on your systems atm and eerything is taking the strain.

I know that my blood isn't this bad normally- it has really plunged

ChocolateHobnob · 05/10/2007 08:07

I just need a snowsuit too, RGPargy. My friend whose son was born in June has given me all his newborn stuff, and she didn't know what she was having so it was all neutral. We dont know either, so it'll work either way. But I do need a snowsuit.. they're all sooo cute. Do you know which you'll get?

Iris, the insomnia is such a PITA! I was awake most of the night and am zombified again this morning.

Pixie, I'm sure you're right about the bloods.

Sparkly, Callum must be coming home shortly! Hurrah!

I'm working from home, but suspect not much work will get done as I'm too tired... have a good day, everyone!

sarahloumadam · 05/10/2007 10:29

Ok, no way I can keep up with you all!! I'll try...

Iris - sorry to hear about your blood levels but you sound feisty enough to have the kind of birth you would like (albeit in hospital) - you go girl! And when you are not feeling so feisty there is always mumsnet.

LOL re lady gardens (what you can't see etc). Having gone through agony last weekend getting some essential maintenance done, I am now wondering why I bothered because there is NO WAY that DH is gaining access at the moment! I know that women dress to impress other women but having your fanjo fluff waxed into pretty patterns for the midwife is taking it a step too far I feel!

Thanks for your kind words re the house move. DH spoke to the developers yesterday and there is apparently a problem with the gas and electric but they are aware of our situation and are really pushing the boat out and trying to get us in a week earlier. Fingers crossed.

IKWYM re jittery movements - I seriously thought that my LO was in some kind of distress/having a fit at one point and all my friends laughed at me so glad I am not the only one to have experienced that.

Starting to feel a bit weird about it all now - am 33+3 and will be 36 weeks when I finish work. Within the next 6 weeks or less I could have a tiny wee stranger totally dependent on me for everything aaarrggghhhhhhh! (runs and hides under the sofa - will come out for a piece of your cheesecake Little )

sarahloumadam · 05/10/2007 10:30

P.S. I have a gorgeous snowsuit from Next which my mum bought but it's white with a pointy hood and DH thinks it looks a bit KKK - ish!

RGPargy · 05/10/2007 10:31

Morning campers!

Iris - blimey, what on EARTH are you doing up so early?!!! My cat woke me up at 6am this morning by having a mad five minutes chasing bits of fluff on the bed and i thought THAT was bad enough! Hope you manage to at least have a nap this afternoon tho. Oh and fresh bread..... mmmmm..... I must get our breakmaker out from the cupboard of doom too once i'm off!

Pixie - hope your blood sorts itself out too!

Choc - I have no idea what snowsuit to get really. Seeing as Toys R Us is just at the end of our road, we'll probably pop in there and get something. My friends have also given me loads of newborn baby stuff too and their babies were born in the summer. I do have a few hats and mittens and one little thick jacket thing so all is not lost if it gets a little chilly.

Sparkly - Good luck for bringing Callum home today! I bet you are REALLY excited!!!!

Have a good everyone and remember - keep posting!

RGPargy · 05/10/2007 10:40

Morning Sarah!

Regular fanjo waxer here! It's not for me, you understand - i couldn't give a flying figg if it's two foot long and growing down my legs!! It's all for DP. He still DOES want access and i feel guilty if i dont give in now and then.... It's getting soooo hard tho (oo-er!) and i think he knows his "messing around" days are very limited now. I am secretly yay-ing at this coz it's all too much of an effort for me. Sssshhhh - dont tell DP tho!

Hope you get your house sorted sooner rather than later. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

PMSL at your KKK snowsuit!!! That really made me chuckle!!
