Congratulations @Busylizzie85 and @Smiffette
Good luck @Missgemini

@newbyxx I'm no expert but my friend said at a couple of weeks old her little one had a growth spurt which made her sleep worse for a short period, if he's hungry and will take more food there's no harm in offering it to him x

newbyxx · 14/06/2020 10:12

Thank you @Cornishbumpkin xx

APD1981 · 14/06/2020 10:13

@smiffette ahh lovely news! Very similar to me as I was also 7cm on arrival at hospital but he came a bit quicker than you in 1he 45mins. Enjoy your baby girl.

@bizzylizzie85 another baby girl! So glad she's safely here. Hope your investigations go well and you're home soon.

@newbyxx my Freddie is 9 days today and the nights are quite hit and miss. Sometimes I'm up most of the night and he just won't settle and sometimes he only wakes twice and goes back to sleep easily. However, I'm breastfeeding so not sure if that makes a difference. The only thing I can suggest is that it's either wind or general digestion issues as his tummy develops. Maybe also a growth spurt? Does a growth spurt even affect a baby's feeding?! As for cluster feeding, not sure it's possible with formula or not. My Freddie does it on the boob occasionally but not sure how it would work with a bottle..I'm sure someone who has some more experience will be along soon to help x

peetieswie · 14/06/2020 10:19

@newbyxx have a look at this website. It suggests baby crying increases after a certain period of time. iconcope.org

Pegase · 14/06/2020 10:41

Yes growth spurts massively affect feeding and also fussiness. There is a thing called wonder weeks. I take it with a bit of pinch of salt but it states roughly when growth spurts and massive intellectual development happens over baby's first years which normally leads to some issues each time!

Pegase · 14/06/2020 10:43

Sorry wonder weeks just intellectual development not growth spurts as well

newbyxx · 14/06/2020 10:52

Thanks ladies I think it's a case of he's just hungry I'm going to up his bottles to 4oz and see how we get on. On the back on the formula it says between 2-4weeks 4oz so it's within guidelines for him x

Babymaher · 14/06/2020 11:05

Congratulations @Busylizzie85 and @Smiffette more babies 😍 I went to bed last night with lower abdo pain and tightening thought it might be our time but nothings happened. I really hope it’s soon 🤞🏻 40+2

Magpie21 · 14/06/2020 13:27

Hi Ladies,

Congratulations @Busylizzie85 and @Smiffette! 😊😊 I hope things are going well! Xx

I woke up at 4 AM having a bit of a wobble! So, last night I 'slow motion' tripped over in my living room but I saved myself and bump didn't get touched in anyway (and I was fine). The baby was moving normally for the 3 hours after but the whole thing shocked me!

When I woke up at 4 AM I had a big glass of water to get the baby moving, for my peace of mind and nothing. Then I had a hot drink and a biccy and nothing, so I decided to call the hospital to get some advice.

The midwife I spoke to was so reassuring and said the baby was very well protected and it was highly unlikely the baby was harmed. She suggested I have an early breakfast, which I did and then the baby finally gave me a couple of wiggles. My baby tends to sleep throughout the night anyway, so I was definitely being paranoid!

I feeling a bit hormonal today. I've had such a lovely pregnancy, so I'd say this is my first hiccup. Which might not even count as a hiccup!

1 week from my due date now and feel like she could be in there until 42 weeks! I sometimes get a feeling of pressure downwards, but nothing major.

Hope everyone else is doing well x

Magpiefeather · 14/06/2020 13:30

Wowee @Smiffette that’s the dream! Hope you and little one are doing ok in the aftermath.

Like @Pegase I would recommend the Wonder Weeks app - really helpful when you just think your baby is going bloody nuts but then you check it and actually it all makes complete sense.

Re formula and cluster feeding / waking often.... I ended up combi feeding my DD then switching completely to formula at 3 months and struggled with this too. In that situation where they’ve had their bottle and are crying for more an hour later we would give her more. she was a mega chunk so maybe we did overfeed her. I’m not sure I have any advice! Other than, babies also suckle for comfort not just for milk, so it could be that baby is not actually hungry but does want to suck. If breastfeeding they can kind of do the suckling bit without actually taking much milk if they’re not hungry, but with formula I’m not sure how you get round that difference. Dd never had a dummy but maybe this is where dummies come in handy??!! Sorry not much help but definitely 100% Normal and to be expected to wake often through the night. Babies are evolved to do it so they can make sure they’re with their mum and safe.

AndddddHerewegoagain · 14/06/2020 14:04

@newbyxx could it be colic? My son suffered awfully from it. I remember the sleepless screaming nights well.

newbyxx · 14/06/2020 14:27

Thanks for advice ladies I've bought infacol to try if maybe colic x

Pegase · 14/06/2020 14:54

@newbyxx our DD had very intense colic for first 2-3 months. It is a bit of an unknown if it has anything whatsoever to do with digestive issues or is actually just having a fussy baby. I think the consensus is that it isn't really due to digestive troubles - it is just ott crying, usually occurring for hours in the evening that they just grow out of. We were referred to a paediatrician in the end who said DD was just having a tricky fourth trimester. We did Infacol, Colief and were finally prescribed reflux meds. Nothing really 'solved' it until it just resolved on its own.

BirdGarden · 14/06/2020 15:59

Congratulations @busylizzie85 and @smiffette! 💐💐

@newbyxx infacol was an essential part of life with DD, hope it works for you. There was a bizarre two weeks where I couldn't find any in the shops (and neither could anyone else on my behalf!) and it was awful. Soon as we got some again she was a happier, more comfortable baby. As well as wind and hunger might be worth considering if baby needs help passing the 'other' (bottom sort!) of wind. There are a few positions you can hold them in to help them let go!

Had a long night, 5 hours of contractions which, having ramped up in intensity and required tens machine (bloody brilliant now I've got it working!) eventually faded enough to allow me to sleep after about 4:30am. Just left with a constant residual cramp and odd bursts of contraction and feeling sick now. I suspect I am in for another looong latent labour. Sincerely hope it's not a week's worth!

41+1

newbyxx · 14/06/2020 16:56

@BirdGarden thank you, I think the bottom wind is an issue aswell bless him. He's been going for a poo every 3 days when before he was passing multiple daily. What positions help do you know?

BirdGarden · 14/06/2020 17:13

@newbyxx probably best to have a Google for a good picture but you kind of lift their bent legs and lean them back into you/your arm whilst supporting their head still, which can also help with poo and wee. You can bicycle or just lift their legs up and down too. I'm not sure at what age you could start doing a tummy massage, might be worth a look into; I didn't start with DD until she was about 8 months but I still do it now and she's 2 this week, sometimes she even asks for it if she has a tummy ache! If I've got another trapped windy baby this time I'll be looking to start sooner.

Rinoa · 14/06/2020 18:23

Anyone with babies have any advice? Baby seems to love to roll on their side while sleeping. Makes me so nervous , we already have a super tech baby monitor that checks breathing but not sure if it's safe for baby to sleep like that ?

BabyBird20 · 14/06/2020 18:34

Wow it's all happening on here now! Congratulations to all the new baby arrivals since I last managed to log in! Time with a new born goes so fast!!

I'm still struggling with recovery as effectively had recovering from a super long labour, an epidural and a c section all at the same time! Argh!! We're slowly finding our feet with a new born and loving time with him, breastfeeding is a whole new ball game of joy (and painful nipples!!) 😬😬

Missgemini · 14/06/2020 21:10

Wow what a day! Came here at 9am. Got monitored then examined and sweeped (4th sweep in total), then told that my cervix was favourable for them to break my waters. No need for the balloon I initially came for. Two options: go home or stay and wait for a bed. I chose to stay.
So cue my 12 hour wait for a labour ward bed. Still waiting on the antenatal ward. Husband went home 9 hours ago and is on standby for when I move to labour ward.
So boredddddddd!

41+5

Missgemini · 14/06/2020 21:11

@BabyBird20 he is gorgeous!!! I'm so jealous!

Babymaher · 14/06/2020 21:44

Ooo how exciting good luck @Missgemini hope you get a bed soon!

FTEngineerM · 15/06/2020 00:23

Congratulations on your new babies, they’re soooo cute!

I’m officially 41 weeks today and just started getting regular period style cramping every 6-8 minutes. It’s concentrated just above my pubic body area.. is this the start of labour? (Crosses everything in hope that it is)

FTEngineerM · 15/06/2020 00:26

Pubic bone

Pegase · 15/06/2020 03:58

Sounds like it - good luck!

chocolate26 · 15/06/2020 05:17

Good luck everyone! @Missgemini we are in a similar position 😊 I was induced on Saturday at 3pm and my waters broke thismorning at 3.30am! I'm waiting on a bed in labour ward so I can be put on the drip if needs be by the time I get there
