@HaichMal she's adorable! Look at those cheeks! Yes managed to latch on straight away this morning and with both boobs was about 90 min of feed ! And he was still hungry after 10 min so topped up w formula to get a break to heal. This is such a new experience.

Rinoa · 12/06/2020 12:38

@NakeliP Mine was spontaneous . He arrived Sunday at 40+2. He came 17 hours after initial contractions that morning at 5 am. It was a Water birth with gas and air. I got to hospital at 8cm! I called when I had 3 contractions within 10 min but midwife told me to stay home. I had the urge to push while still at home an hour later Almost didn’t make it lol Dh called again and then said they can send an ambulance but my fil drove us as it's only 10 drive even though it felt like forever! Definitely glad I trusted my instinct! I was only in hospital for about an hour and he was out!

chocolate26 · 12/06/2020 12:44

@Busylizzie85 oh no! I really feel for you. Was you warned that that might happen? When my induction was booked on Monday the doctor told me to call them at 8am but if they are busy then I might have to wait for a while! Did you have to call your hospital thismorning? Hopefully you don't have to wait too long 🤞😊

Busylizzie85 · 12/06/2020 12:47

@chocolate26 they told me to wait for the call but did not give me any other info! Oddly enough the senior midwife has just called again and told me to come in so luck must be on my side!! 🎉

TOO CUTE @HaichMal. All these pictures are Making me so excited to have a squishy newborn.

Thank you @HaichMal @BirdGarden @MissisBee @AndddddHerewegoagain For sharing your experiences with your soon to be (or already!) oldest kids. My dd seems to have got a bit better through the night. Not worried at all about how she’ll be with the baby once he’s here, it’s just the me being in labour and then leaving (in her eyes) indefinitely which I’m worried will really upset her. Anyway I’m sure she will get through it but may struggle, she’s such a sensitive soul.

@sarahlounich I hope you are OK and managing to stay calm. So so frustrating, especially at a time you feel very vulnerable, but ultimately the calmer you can be the better.

I convinced myself things were starting again (I don’t think they actually are, or if they are it’s the slowest build up to labour in eternity) because I’ve had diarrhoea again and cramps, plus all the cervix head bashing and nipples incredibly sore. I know it’s all positive but I am getting a bit worn out with the wondering if this time the cramps will turn into proper contractions. Think I’ll try for some very unsexy sex tonight to try and encourage things along.

38+5

mrssunshinexxx · 12/06/2020 13:05

Wow @umabb sorry you have had such a rough week hopefully things will be better for you from here on out

May I ask why you needed to get a private midwife for tongue tie ?

This is something I'm worrying about being missed in hospital it sounds to be very common

NakeliP · 12/06/2020 14:15

@Rinoa wow that was good timing if cutting it a bit fine! Congratulations to you. And lovely you got to go in the water too. I'd like a water birth but there's only one on labour ward so highly unlikely it'll be free. Was this your first pregnancy? I'm a FTM and can envisage still waddling around in two or three weeks (39+2 now).

LillianFullStop · 12/06/2020 14:39

@Magpie21 and @Blizy I've added you both to the spreadsheet.

Have also started a new post natal thread for those awake in the middle of the night feeding/leaking/etc Grin

@mrssunshinexxx because there was a waiting list to get a hold of the nhs MW who's trained to do this and this one we hired lives local and was recommended by NCT. I'd strongly suggest to do it in the hospital.

Magpie21 · 12/06/2020 15:24

@LillianFullStop Thank you! 😊

Busylizzie85 · 12/06/2020 15:33

Omg the Covid swab is horrendous, the nose part is the worst!
Being monitored now blood pressure has gone down which is a relief but baby is still not engaged they don't think by feeling around.

So many babies, it's fantastic 💙💕

I had my sweep this morning, MW said she could touch babies head 😍 and that she had a good sweep around and I was 1cm and very favourable. I was surprised how comfortable I found it, I was worried after hearing how unpleasant people had found it, but in found it a lot easier than a smear test.

I just wondered if anyone else had a similar experience in their sweeps in terms of being favourable / dilated and if so how soon after they went into labour? I know it's different for everyone, I haven't had any cramping since, then only thing I've had is a little brown spotting which was to be expected.

I wasn't inpatient before but knowing this I'm just so excited and want her here now so I can touch her head!! 🙈

40+4

newbyxx · 12/06/2020 16:59

Congratulations to everyone with their new arrivals 😍 we made it ladies xxx

Rinoa · 12/06/2020 17:15

@NakeliP yes it's my firstborn and it's such a crazy experience. It was primal, your body will know what to do. I really enjoyed the water birth as it was soothing for the back pain during contractions. I hope u get to use it! I was 40+2 when he was born. Didn't feel anything to say I'd be in labour until that very day !

Babymaher · 12/06/2020 17:29

@Smiffette ooo that’s so exciting! Hope things progress quickly for you. I’m due a sweep on Tuesday but was told by a friend that if baby isn’t engaged they won’t even try for a sweep last time
I went I was only 3/5 so not classed as engaged. Not sure if anyone else can shed some light on this ?

Smiffette · 12/06/2020 17:34

@Babymaher oh interesting... my midwife didn't mention anything about being engaged just said if your cervix is too long she wouldn't be able to do the sweep as she wouldn't be able to reach the area.

Hope yours goes well on Thursday and starts things off! Although I guess it would be good if you didn't need it at all 😀

mrssunshinexxx · 12/06/2020 18:18

@Smiffette I had one last wed I'm 2/5 engaged but my cervix was right at the back and thick I have a high pain threshold but it was uncomfortable she just rubbed my cervix for 10 seconds to see if that would do anything but it hasn't I'm booked for another one next wed

Zoey92 · 12/06/2020 18:37

@Smiffette I had my sweep yesterday at 1.30, cervix nice and soft and midwife was able to bring it forward no problem & she even felt little ones head too
I was already 2cm before my sweep.
Slight spotting bit achey but other than that nothing.
Im 38+5

Smiffette · 12/06/2020 18:48

Thanks both!
It's useful to know what others are experiencing to get an idea.... I don't feel like anything will happen tonight, I feel a bit out of sorts but no discomfort.

Hopefully we will meet our little ones by the end of the weekend! 😀

APD1981 · 12/06/2020 19:52

@NakeliP I had a spontaneous, quick birth at 39+5. Very similar to @Rinoa to be honest. Dilated very quickly at home and got to hospital 7cm dilated. Baby arrived 1hrs 45mins later on a MLU. Just gas and air. Didn't even have time to take my clothes off and put a nightie on or call my mum to tell her.

APD1981 · 12/06/2020 19:53

@umabb sounds like you've had quite a week. Glad you're through the other side now and baby is ok. X

Zoey92 · 12/06/2020 22:50

@Smiffette i hope so! Tonight I've been for a walk with dog, had a long soak & im on and off the exercise ball.
I may go get some raspberry tea? Not sure if many people had any success with that.

If anyone has any tips please share 😊

APD1981 · 12/06/2020 23:15

@Zoey92 I think walking did it for me. I did so much the day before I went into labour to try and get things moving. And I sat on my ball a lot too. I'm sure it made a difference as my waters went a few hours later and I was 2 days early.

BirdGarden · 13/06/2020 00:43

I wrote a really long post and lost it...

Ladies who have already given birth in hospital could you share your experiences of having a covid swab, if you had one? If you went in in labour did you still get swabbed? How long did it take to get the results?

My one year old has developed a temperature today (no cough). We have been self isolating since mid-March apart from my midwife appointments and DH has collected shopping three times. I cannot see how she could have picked up any bug, including covid. But obviously I cannot say "no" when asked if the whole household has been well. Understandly I'm sure I would be treated as toxic until proven otherwise, even in labour. And I have no birth partner.

I will call 111 for advice tomorrow but it's an awkward set of circumstances; I am 41 weeks now and a ticking baby time bomb.

Rinoa · 13/06/2020 00:57

@BirdGarden I did not get swabbed and gave birth on Sunday. But I think I remember them taking temperature, I was in the middle of very strong contractions so don't remember !
