@Blizy You're so close now!! So exciting!

@goldenT One way or the other, your baby will be with you soon!

I had a growth scan today and baby is now breech, so they've booked me in for a c section when I'll be 39 weeks (9 days from now). Apparently on the day of the section they'll scan me again, and I presume will send me home if she is the right way again? I forgot to ask. Anyone else in a similar situation?

HaichMal · 10/06/2020 16:53

@Magpiefeather DS2 will be 3 in August and he still seems to have no idea that I was pregnant or that a baby was coming, even though we tried bringing it up. We didn't do too much prep to be fair because I just don't think he would understand. His behaviour did change a bit before the birth and he was testing boundaries a lot, probably because I couldn't do much and he was getting restless and sensing change. It will be interesting to see how he reacts once we're home. I think he'll like having DH's attention while he's on paternity leave and hopefully that will balance things out.

@babyt2020 my little girl was back to back for weeks, then had switched to a good position for my first sweep but ended up back to back again for at least a little of the labour. Apart from giving me really bad back pain, it had no effect on things so I wouldn't worry too much, though maybe keep your fingers crossed she switches back.

@Smiffette that's strange. I've always been told it is 40 weeks here for first timers and 41 for later babies. I was surprised they gave me one at 40 weeks this time. I'm glad that they took your wishes into account.

HaichMal · 10/06/2020 16:58

@Rinoa congratulations and BF can be tricky. We've been latching fine until about lunch and then it went tricky and my nipples got sore. She's just fed again and been OK but I am certainly planning on a formula top up later today to give them a break. As others have said, take it easy on yourself, be kind to yourself and take it one feed at a time. You're both learning how to do it.

We've been discharged at last and I can't wait to go home! Take care everyone

APD1981 · 10/06/2020 18:07

@rinoa congratulations!! What gorgeous news! Keep up with the BF if you can. I had a bad day with it on Monday (Freddie was born on friday last week) where I thought I was crap and couldn't do it blah blah. Even used a bit of formula too as I had the same worry as you. But my milk came in and he is much better at getting a good feed now. Hurts like hell though from before I adjusted his latch because I was doing it a bit wrong. Lansinoh is my friend!

I saw the MW this morning. She weighed him and he has only lost 4% (up to 10% is normal and expected) so must be doing something right. She was very happy with him which was so reassuring.

If anyone did buy The Positive Birth Company digital pack and likes the birth stories make sure you join the Facebook group because they post about 4/5 stories a day and they are all very interesting.

LillianFullStop · 10/06/2020 19:08

Congrats @Rinoa! Hope things get easier on the breeding front

Rinoa · 10/06/2020 19:37

@AndddddHerewegoagain thank you and thank you all for the messages. Can I ask anyone using formula top ups , when do u decide to top up? I had no luck with any feeding in the morning and gave in. Then tried again and managed I think 10 min each side but he was still hungry so topped up. I feel so dependent on it :(

Rinoa · 10/06/2020 19:41

Oh also nips are very sore :( but I will keep trying thanks all for the advice !

AndddddHerewegoagain · 10/06/2020 20:14

@Rinoa if your nipples are sore your little one probably isn't taking enough nipple in to get a good latch. Also make sure their bottom lip is out so there's a good seal.

The first 10 days we were very reliant in formula but its just naturally dropped over the past few days. Saying that my supply seems to dwindle in the evening just as she wants to cluster feed so will probably have a formula bottle in a bit.

We started the top ups as she had dry nappies in excess of 3 hours after feeding and was feeding then sleeping in 20 min sessions as my milk supply was too low so she wasn't getting enough milk to settle for longer.

Otherwise i leave her 20 mins and if she's still claiming starvation then I'll give her a top up. Gives her time to decide if shes actually hungry or not!

Rinoa · 10/06/2020 21:15

@AndddddHerewegoagain yea midwife came by yesterday and said the latch was fine and she saw my sore nips. I think it's something I need to plot through :( I do feel horrible though that I'm so reliant so early in. Nights are definitely the hardest. I definitely give him some at night just so we can get some sleep. Otherwise if we put him down he will cry.

AndddddHerewegoagain · 10/06/2020 21:40

My dd was exactly the same. Couldnt settle her at all. 2 ounces of formula and she was sparko. Don't feel bad. Any breastmilk your little one is getting is amazing. You need to let yourself rest and recover from birth and allow your body time to produce more milk. As i said we're on day 18 and my boobs have only just caught up with the demand in the last 24 hours. Also my nipples were on fire for the first 3 days! Stay strong xx

Rinoa · 10/06/2020 21:44

@AndddddHerewegoagain I don't have any milk yet only colostrum :( thank you for the kind words!

Rinoa · 10/06/2020 21:46

Yes also give him about 30ml or more and he's knocked out. Much needed for him and ya to sleep !

AndddddHerewegoagain · 10/06/2020 22:07

@Rinoa my boobs were useless until my milk came in!!

LillianFullStop · 10/06/2020 23:06

@Rinoa and @AndddddHerewegoagain I'm still struggling with it 9 days later. I'm pumping though so at least my nipples aren't as battered. Getting about 10-15ml a pump on my right and almost nothing on my left. Trying to build up supply but it's so discouraging!!!

Rinoa · 10/06/2020 23:33

@AndddddHerewegoagain oh really? That's encouraging as I feel inadequate atm with not being able to feed boob a lot. I'm trying but I hate to see him hungry :(

@LillianFullStop they told me I shouldn't pump until well later 4-6 weeks. Does your baby latch?

peetieswie · 11/06/2020 05:40

Isn't their stomach absolutely tiny (size of a marble) when they are first born so you only need to be giving them a tiny bit often to fill them. I heard that and the advice was just keep offering the breast and you'll get there! You're doing amazing ladies!

Blizy · 11/06/2020 05:51

Today is eviction day! I'm surprisingly quite calm and managed to have one last night of decent sleep!

Gigitree · 11/06/2020 06:01

How exciting @Blizy good luck! Glad you managed to get some rest xx

Busylizzie85 · 11/06/2020 06:03

Thanks, just leaving for the hospital
Now!

APD1981 · 11/06/2020 06:58

I had such a good day yesterday. Midwife came for our day 5 check. Baby has lost 4% body weight which is good apparently. Anything up to 10% is normal. MW very happy with him. We also went out for our first walk and I finally got to push my pram. This then led to the baby finally being ok to nap in it in the afternoon (he's not wanted to be put down to sleep until then) and he slept for 2 hours and so did I! He's started to have much better, longer feeds now which mean he's sleeping well. And we finally got him to sleep properly in his new next to me last night (only got it on Tuesday as he hated the family heirloom wooden crib, which I was pleased about as I really wanted a next to me). I feel like a new woman this morning!

Those who have already had your babies, how are you getting on?

Chels2 · 11/06/2020 07:13

Massive Congratulations to all the new babys!
