@ShiningStarz I used to buy one pack of nappies every week so I had a good stock for when H was born, I don’t think you’re mad. I found that as soon as he reached the lower limit for the next size, we were better moving up. So as he was 7.14 born, we only used 2 packs of size one before he moved up to size two (which start from about 8lbs) - because the size one kept leaking.
Stock up on size 3 & 4 - they wear these much longer, and this was when my money reduced more too.

sianyflewog · 03/06/2020 19:00

@Bubble29 I knew there was someone! Our college is still closed, but we’ve had an announcement today that they’ll start phasing return from 15th June. The guidance documentation says those at moderate risk should be able to work at home where possible, and pregnant over 28 weeks should work at home so I imagine I’ll continue as I am until my mat leave starts on 31st August. I’m also just going back for the end of Summer term to allow for getting back in to it and sorting planning for the next year.

ShiningStarz · 03/06/2020 19:27

That's good to know @sianyflewog I'll see
How many Lidl let me stock up!! Thanks

Sara7455 · 03/06/2020 19:55

@Piper1879 glad all is ok with bub! What a stressful day for you though

Sep20baby · 03/06/2020 19:57

Nappies
My two friends who have recently had babies both told me Lidl and Aldi nappies are the best and they also got a best review in mother and baby awards and the price is amazing! I think I’m going to try them and some other brands to compare. Ooo I did see an advert for Lidl baby event may be worth a visit Wink

OrDis · 03/06/2020 20:22

I went to Asda yesterday to mooch at baby clothes. They have a baby event on at the moment and I got a pack of 7 baby vests for £8 and 3 sleepsuits for £7! Worth a look if you have one nearby

sianyflewog · 04/06/2020 07:37

@ordis Definitely need to pop down! Their baby event is always worth using to stock up on toiletries too. Hopefully they have some first sizes in stock 🙄

ShiningStarz · 04/06/2020 09:44

Ooooh all these baby sales are great!!
I was in Lidl for their opening at 8am and got the nappies before they even had the offer labels up!!
I'v now for a 72 pack size 1
2 packs size 2
2 packs size 3
2 packs size 4

Also for 4 packs of water wipes!

Must look at Asda online. I'v loads of next up to 1 months. I need to find pack plain white newborn sleepsuits and also a cardigan type thing in up to 1 month 🤞🤞

sianyflewog · 04/06/2020 11:03

@ShiningStarz Good stashing! I had a lovely little white cardigan from Next - www.next.co.uk/g592590s7/999624#999624

ChipsAreLife · 04/06/2020 11:16

@Lilice it's hard being SE isn't it? I don't get any help but luckily I have managed to weather the storm thus far. I have seen a drop though which is frustrating as means I can't save for as much time off so will probably go back January/February.

Re nappies - it seems to differ from baby to baby. Mine could only use pampers, as the others all leaked. It's worth grabbing a few brands and seeing which works best. Alot of people I know use Aldi in the day and pampers at night.

I am so bloody tired this week. I wake up feeling like ive had a massive night out and one hour sleep, even though I am getting about nine hours (with 2/3 wees in between)

DDs started school this week. The school has been incredible and they have loved it! I just feel for all those in the other years who can't go back yet, god knows what they'll do in September!!

Got my Aden and Anais delivery coming today so that's exciting!!

ShiningStarz · 04/06/2020 14:14

That's gorgeous @sianyflewog I'd get that covered in make up so easy 🙈 maybe no time for makeup when baby arrives tho 🤣
I got one jacket as part of a set in newborn (white too) and then an up to 1 month Debenhams grey cardi. That'll do until I meet little one as I want to buy colour!! Don't even want to do nursery in grey as they say colour stimulates their learning?! Love grey tho!!

emma278 · 04/06/2020 16:26

The nursery is really starting to come together now, its so exciting! Ordered the sleephead today. Still feel naughty ordering things but am 26 weeks now so surely thats ok?! 🤷🏼‍♀️ hope everyone is doing ok xx

Lilice · 04/06/2020 17:29

@ShiningStarz I love grey too. I could have the whole house in grey. im doing my nursery with white furniture and grey walls. There will be plenty of colourful toys and other things around.
@emma278 I cant wait to put the nursery together. Just waiting for our garage conversion to be finished so I can move my office there, but I've already bought most of the furniture. I dont think 26 weeks is too early to be buying things, go for it!

pangolin84 · 04/06/2020 18:29

Has anyone got any experience of reusable nappies? Is it worth the hassle?!

Sep20baby · 04/06/2020 18:48

Thanks for the heads up with Asda. Have any of you guys purchased yours changing bags? Not sure what style to go for or any good recommendations? So many to chose from

ChipsAreLife · 04/06/2020 18:49

@pangolin84 I don't. My DB and DSIL used them for their twins in the day but they live in a big country where they dried very quickly. Do you have a tumble drier?

@emma278 nah not too early. Stuff is taking ages to come. We ordered our girls a new bed and it's taking 12 weeks!!! Plus you're technically full term at 37 weeks so it's good to be ready for then I think.

pangolin84 · 04/06/2020 19:00

@ChipsAreLife yes we do have a tumbledryer, although it’s a combi one and has recently been on the blink. Really hope we don’t need to buy a whole new washing machine as well as all the baby gear!
I’ve started to notice all the massive bags of nappies outside people’s houses on bin day and this makes me want to give the reusables a try. I have no idea where to start with it though and apparently it’s quite a big upfront cost (especially if we don’t get on with them).

ShiningStarz · 04/06/2020 19:59

@emma278 I'v pretty much ordered everything! Just got a few small things to get now! Some items taking their time to arrive so I'm glad I ordered them. Maybe a little earlier but I like to be organised!!

Roxy8203 · 04/06/2020 20:48

@pangolin84 I don't have experience but I'm going to be using cloth nappies. The cheapest why you do it is terry/muslins with a liner and a wrap. There are kits you can buy or see if you have a nappy library near you, my local one isn't open at the moment but are very helpful and may be able to give you info. The nappy lady Facebook page has some great videos for beginners. I think the upfront cost is more but you save hundreds over time

Piper1879 · 04/06/2020 21:02

Thanks everyone for commenting ... baby clearly wanted a nap , he's all wriggles today ! I received for Aden and Anais order today ... more Muslins xl ones and a knotted gown 👏🏼 so pretty !!
Will be getting my snuzpod ordered soon and will pop to my Lidl tomorrow to have a look at bargains ! I've found some lovely stuff in Tesco lately especially for boys

Sara7455 · 04/06/2020 21:46

@ShiningStarz I love grey as well. Pretty much our whole house is greys, light blues and neutrals so nursery is matching. Apparently babies can’t even see colour properly for the first 5 months and it’s black and white that’s good for them? Like @Lilice has said there’s going to be so many colourful toys and things around that I don’t think baby will suffer for a neutral nursery

@emma278 definitely not too early to be buying - we’ve got most of the main things collected now. Still need to get organised about setting things up though and the pram is secondhand so will need a good clean up!

ShiningStarz · 05/06/2020 05:49

@Sara7455 I think your right. We are still to paint our house and prob go grey everywhere too!! It's such a night light airy colour and matches all the bright colours!! I'v seen this bookshelf that I cant wait to get and it'll be full of colourful items! I read black n white good for them too.. do babies need soft touchy books / toys from early on? I haven't bought activity mat but read they are good from 4 weeks on??

ShiningStarz · 05/06/2020 06:45

Love these books shelves from great little trading company 💜

@pangolin84 we've used reusable nappies for two years with my son. We started when he was out of the newborn size as otherwise they were too big on him! Has saved us a fortune. I definitely haven't fallen down the rabbit hole of buying nappies just because of pretty prints etc which is where people seem to spend all their money!

Originally I bought a mixed bundle from someone local, just to try out different sorts. I had my heart set on bumgenius nappies but didn't get on with them at all. Ended up mainly using Mio solo bambino nappies, with some cheap little and bloomz with bamboo inserts. Very easy to use, we wash every other day (usually overnight) and have a separate clothes airer just for nappies so that they don't take up the space where I need my clothes to dry haha. Or if the weather is anywhere near dry I hang them outside on the line. I've never put them in the tumble dryer (I'm not sure if that would melt the waterproof lining? You'd probably need the type with a nappy and then a wrap to be able to tumble dry).

When we've been on holiday and had to use disposables my son always gets a rash, and the smell of disposable nappies makes me feel sick Envy.

We also use washable wipes (cheeky wipes) and would recommend to anyone even if not using cloth nappies. Baby wipes can go through half a pack trying to sort out a bad nappy, but with the cloth ones only ever need one or two! And since he started solids we use them for face and hands as well.

MooseWL · 05/06/2020 08:47

@pangolin84 I can't remember who it was on here but someone said a while back Google your local council and reusable nappy grants. I looked and mine do £25 cashback which is better than nothing! You could just buy a few to start with and mix and match with reusables, then get more/ a full set if you like them. And people will buy them off you second hand as well (I buy everything second hand where I can but I'm not sure I'd buy second hand nappies feels a bit strange to me!)
@lazydaisydream I ordered cheeky wipes at the weekend and they came yesterday, I'm excited to use them!
Just need to buy a changing unit now that's somehow going to fit in the boxroom with a cotbed 🤔

I also got the bambino mio changing bag (second hand on fb marketplace obvs so I payed £40 rather than £80) - I really love a second hand bargain 😂
