I've signed up to it and it starts in August. I've just had an email today actually to say that it will definitely be on Zoom.

Sara7455 · 01/06/2020 14:45

@pangolin84 We’re doing the Nct zoom classes but they don’t start until end of July - I’ve heard really good things about them from a friend who did them and still has good mum friends she made 4 years ago on the course. I was worried with Zoom that it would be harder to properly get to know people but am promised they’re using break out rooms to still allow the opportunity for 1:1 chats so hopefully it’ll be good

Lazydaisydaydream · 01/06/2020 15:01

I ordered a new bag to use as my hospital bag and it arrived today.... Suddenly all feels scarily real and close Shock

Lilice · 01/06/2020 15:46

@pangolin84 i did the nct and really liked it. In the end i lost touch with the other mums after about a year or so, but it was nice to know other mums in those early days. I'd definitely do it again if I had the chance.
I also did the nhs one at the hospital, but didnt meet anyone as it only took place over one day. I also did another free nhs hypnobirthing one but again didnt keep in touch with anyone. The good thing about the nct is that the person running it will make sure you socialize with the other parents.

ShiningStarz · 01/06/2020 16:00

Thanks for bringing this up! I emailed my local NCT group today and she emailed back pretty much straightaway. They have bump meets and also antenatal classes.
I was so looking forward to making new friends and I had imagined joining lots of baby groups and different parent meets. I'm gutted. None of my friends have kids and it would have been lovely to have a new group to be a part of and for DP to meet other new dad.

pangolin84 · 01/06/2020 17:50

Thanks all - I think I will sign us up. Managed to nab the last place on our local course and it starts in July. Zoom isn’t ideal but it’s better than nothing and I’ll just use the money I’ve saved from not commuting to work!

Sara7455 · 01/06/2020 18:04

@ShiningStarz absolutely know what you mean. Pre lockdown I’d identified a bunch of mum and baby stuff I wanted to do, keeping my fingers crossed it’s safe enough for some to go ahead when we get there. Luckily for us a couple we’re friends with are expecting their first 2 weeks after us but the NCT classes seem like such a good opportunity to meet a little group of mum friends

WillowT · 01/06/2020 18:08

@pangolin84 We're also signed up, starting in July, and had confirmation today it will be in zoom. We decided to mainly for the network of new parents and have that support. Whilst not ideal, we're not going to be social distancing forever so will be nice to have a good network locally for when things finally to some kind of normality :)

Sep20baby · 01/06/2020 19:36

@pangolin84 i looked at NCt but wasn’t my 1 space left and times were 7.30- 9pm after working all day I’d be falling asleep At that time Grin I’ve found a local group still cost quite a lot but as smaller group by August she said it’s likely to be actual meetings as in a school and can distance so much happier if it is. Will be nice to learn and meet people

ShiningStarz · 01/06/2020 21:20

Taking videos of my moving bump tnite!! I can see the little kicks but have to look really hard 💜

Lilice · 01/06/2020 21:42

I looked up the nct antenatal classes in my area and it runs from 7 to 10. I think I'm going to sign up for the early days postnatal one instead, as it will start in November and I hope that by then I'll be able to get out of the house and it runs in the morning. I'm planning on going to baby groups too. I really hope we'll be back to some sort of normality by then, I really dont want to stay indoors all the time once baby is here.

Sep20baby · 02/06/2020 09:47

7-10!! I’d be falling asleep I’m in bed by 10 most nights lol. I saw some comments about 25 week appointments. Called to book mine in at GP will be telephone only and no face to face at 28 either! It’s not very reassuring as haven’t had anything checked since original booking appointment and last call at 16 weeks was only 5 mins and she didn’t say much. Anyone else feel the same?

Emmy2020 · 02/06/2020 13:00

Anyone else feeling totally exhausted?? Last two days I’ve got up at 9am so not early done a bit of housework then two hours later I’m ready for at least another nap! Yesterday had a morning nap for an hour just could not keep my eyes open then had two naps outside on the blanket! Just woken up now from my nap. Why am I this tired? Any ideas what I can do the wake myself up a bit!

emma278 · 02/06/2020 13:45

@Sep20baby apparently my 28 week is face to face but had no 25 due to covid. I feel let down by the care ive had really.

ChipsAreLife · 02/06/2020 13:47

I didn't do NCT because it ran over three weekends and we could only make one so couldn't go.

I did a lovely hypnobirthing yoga class and made friends that way. They're doing them online still and she runs lovely classes for babies like yoga / massage etc., felt more organic than NCT for me personally. Still friends with them five years on so don't worry too much if you don't fancy NCT or you can't make it work.

And also don't worry too much about missing out on all the baby classes etc. Yes they're nice to get you out but half the time it was a rush to get there, baby's would be crying, feeding, asleep etc. Used to find it quite stressful. Sacked it off second time round and felt much more relaxed.

@Emmy2020 yes feeling shattered now. Want to sleep for days but no chance!!!

@Sep20baby that's rubbish. I would flag you're not happy and you want to be seen and checked. Its a long time to go without being checked!!!

WillowT · 02/06/2020 14:15

@Emmy2020 Yes, I'm tired!! Although I think it might be partly linked to lockdown fatigue as well as I don't really do much anymore etc

@Sep20baby I get a face to face from 28 weeks. To be honest, my booking in appt was very rushed (midwife at house) and my 16 week was a 5 min phone call a few days late. I should have another phone call tomorrow but talking over the phone is not the same as being with the midwife in person. I know we are in an unprecedented time but I really feel there has been a lack of support, especially for us first timers.

MooseWL · 02/06/2020 14:34

I had 2 weeks of feeling good where my sickness stopped and then as of yesterday my sickness is back and I needed to nap. I'll have to accept that my glowing period was 2 weeks 😂

All my midwife appointments have carried on as normal which I'm feeling really grateful for, she told me last time that they'd listen to the heartbeat at 25 which I'm looking forward to, also going to ask what she thinks about isolating after 25 weeks/wearing face masks etc.

Been trying to research car seats the last few days it's mind blowing 🙈 I have discovered that my car is too old to have isofix which is a bit annoying. My partners car does but I'll be the one with the baby most of the time!

Lilice · 02/06/2020 14:46

@Sep20baby I would insist on being checked in person, they have to check your urine and blood pressure at some point.
@Emmy2020 I'm so tired as well. I'm sleeping terribly at night. It's weird but after exercising I feel more energised

ShiningStarz · 02/06/2020 15:01

@Sep20baby have you not had your 20 week scan?

Has anyone bought any good books they could recommend. Looking at breastfeeding, general baby development book, sleeping routine tips etc. I'v been looking on amazon and there are so many it's crazy!!

Sep20baby · 02/06/2020 15:13

@ShiningStarz I had my 20 scan the sonographer said baby was measuring big so they took blood tests for gestational diabetics and said if I didn’t get a phone call the next day then I don’t have it and everything is fine. Never got a phone call presume all ok. Never heard the heartbeat and like @Lilice said they have to check the urine/ pressure at some point. I asked about 28 face to face and was told only high risk. So not sure if should feel ok I’m not or if being silly. Ahh. I’ve heard good things for the book “positive birth book” and what to expect when you’re expecting.

@MooseWL I’m the same with car seat I have isofix but hubby doesn’t and he may in emergency need to use his car...also same with travel systems still not decided so much info online

Lazydaisydaydream · 02/06/2020 15:31

@ShiningStarz the womanly art of breastfeeding is amazing! Always highly recommended.

emma278 · 02/06/2020 15:41

Ive had to sign Baby up for nursery next May already as they only had one place left. Poor little mite isnt even born yet and i'm leaving them with someone else 😢😢

WillowT · 02/06/2020 16:57

@emma278 oh wow, I haven't even thought that far ahead yet!

emma278 · 02/06/2020 17:03

@WillowT I hadnt either but a friend who worked in childcare mentioned i should start enquiring and luckily I did as our baby got the last spot. Also had no idea how crazy expensive they are if you want a good one! X

Roxy8203 · 02/06/2020 17:43
