@ChipsAreLife I’m actually doing pretty well in recovery. Still on lots of BP meds and waiting for a liver scan because of the pre-eclampsia but post section I’m moving about pretty well and doctor says my scar is doing great. Day 2 I was definitely wondering why anyone would choose to have a section but recovery isn’t actually too bad!

@Chanel05 I’m not sure if I count anymore - still on the board as in terms of prepping for bringing baby home I’m actually still at the same stage as you all plus the advice has been great and everyone is lovely! Theoretically I was due September 1st - but as we know little boy was impatient and got here June 15th instead!

@ChipsAreLife I've been getting lots of Braxton Hicks. I asked the consultant about it at my last appointment and he said to make sure I wasn't over doing it and to make sure to drink lots of water. He said it doesn't particularly matter if they are painful or not, what is important is to call maternity ward immediately if they become regular. He also claimed having lots of Braxton Hicks reduced the first stage of labour so to think of them being taken off my "tab" so do speak haha. Not sure if he was just trying to make me feel better with that one Grin

Hi everyone!

Hope you don’t mind me rejoining! I was here in the very beginning but took a break from Mumsnet - I found out at 13 weeks that I would require a cervical cerclage as my cervix was measuring 17mm - 24mm (very short). In 2015 I had a LLETZ for CIN 3, a surgical procedure and a D&C, which may be the cause and it is due to this history that they thankfully checked and acted quickly.
Although I suspect I may have always had a short cervix, as even though I delivered my daughter at 40+10, I had painless dilation, which is apparently a sign. Anyway, I will never know the cause but it was very short and it resulted in the entire second trimester being absolutely terrifying. I was so scared to move much and grateful to be working from home during lockdown. Still quite fearful of exerting myself in anyway and will need to run straight to a personal trainer and a physio after giving birth.
Nearing the end of the second trimester now and will be 28 weeks on Wednesday. Feeling more confident that I will be able to bring my little one home - which is something I may have taken for granted before. I’ve only bought a teddy bear for her so far. I will rectify that now that we’re getting to a safer gestation, I just don’t know where to begin.

Expecting a little girl on September 16th 💕

My other daughter will be 12 on September 19th 🙈 She’s very excited, if a little grossed out by bumps movements.

Anyway, hopefully it’s okay to crash such a well established little group.

glasha87 · 22/06/2020 18:00

I’ve been getting Braxton Hicks too! Sometimes it takes my breath away but thankfully they’re very sporadic.
I never experienced it with my first, but apparently that’s normal too. I think it’s the uterus remembering, which is a nice positive spin!
They do say doing to much or being dehydrated can cause it but I’m pretty much a coach potato due to my shoddy cervix and my only pregnancy craving is water by the bucketload so I’m not so sure 😕

Lazydaisydaydream · 22/06/2020 18:05

@glasha87 of course you are welcome Grin. Glad that you are feeling a bit more positive now, every day and every week you'll feel even more confident! Will you be able to carry on working from home?

I have polyhydramnios (excess fluid) and apparently that can make you feel more Braxton Hicks as the uterus is more stretched. I mean apart from playing with my toddler I'm not particularly active and I nap for two hours every day so i don't think I'm overdoing it haha.

CNovittBolden · 22/06/2020 18:10

@Chanel05 25th September 💙

I've just come back from my scan and all is fine! He's growing as he should and moving. She seemed confused that I don't have a gap grow chart yet - does anyone else have this? What does it look like?

Lazydaisydaydream · 22/06/2020 18:18

@CNovittBoldenn I don't even know what that is? They have some sort of chart they use in my notes at the hospital but i don't have a copy and they don't show it to me at appointments or anything.

HugeAgeGap · 22/06/2020 18:18

@glasha87 welcome back to the group! We are similar in terms of kids ages as my son is 11. I also had LLETZ for CiN3 and CGIN in 2017, this has resulted in scarring but not been checked for the shortened cervix, although to far gone in oreg for that to be relevant now (nearly29w)

@Chanel05 due date 11 Sept, planned section on 04sept, team yellow.

@ChipsAreLife our elective section dates are the same! I've had one elective before, but as soon as consultant confirmed date last week I've now been really panicked and worrying about all those motions to go through on the table and worried about having a panic attack or something! Nothing went wrong last time (elective for breach so straight forward) but in recovery I felt so dizzy and sick it was horrendous, they injected something which made it worse then eventually better but that was 11 years ago and still makes me feel sick thinking about it since! Also think I had to much aesthetic as I couldn't feel legs until the eve of following day (36hrs later!) so dunno how I'll get out in the 24hrs I hear these days! Rest of recovery was fine and fairly easy other than laughing and hiccuping and stairs!

Anyway I guess just need to remember the baby is coming out again regardless and due to further medical treatment since a repeat section is the safest thing and just have to go with it - ahhhhh xx

WillowT · 22/06/2020 18:33

@Chanel05 19 Sept 💛

glasha87 · 22/06/2020 18:48

@Lazydaisydaydream Thank you. Yes, I can carry on working from home - which is fantastic, I’ll happily never see my office again! Grin I’m a bit of a homebody anyway so it’s been good in that regard. Very jealous of your 2 hour naps.
I didn’t know polyhydramnios can cause them too! It’s so common. Was the extra fluid noted at your anomaly scan or more recently?

@HugeAgeGap - lots in common! How did you son take the news? My daughter’s initial reaction was “No. Oh no!” followed by tears and then excitement - a real gamut of emotions. The poor thing. We have such a close bond I can understand why she took it that way but she’s since realised nothing will change with our relationship and is looking forward.

If you’re approaching 29 weeks without issue I’m sure all is fine. What’s more, because you have scarring it’s more likely to cause issues with dilating! Just as well the section is booked.

I must say while I mostly fearful of my cervix shortening further a part of me wonders if I will have issues with dilation due to the amount of procedures done. I suppose I will find out in time but I must broach it with doctors.

Thank you for the warm welcome ❤️

HugeAgeGap · 22/06/2020 19:26

@glasha87 oh it sounds like your daughter has come around to the idea ok! I was 12 when my sister was born and I absolutely loved it!! My son was deffo how your daughter was initially, but without the coming around to it part!! We don't really discuss it that much, he thinks will just be a pain in the but, and can't see anything positive. He thinks if 5 years ago would have been good but thinks to big age gap to be good now! I'm sure will be fine when it all happens!!!!

Yeah I've a repeat section booked because of the potential dilation issues, I was told about a lot of scarring at last colposcopy check up so just thought with having a previous section and no vaginal birth it seemed the most safest and sensible route. It is difficult to make a decision as so many ifs n buts xx

ChipsAreLife · 22/06/2020 19:59

@lazydaisydream ha ha love the consultants spin on them to make it seem like they're worth it! It's definitely from over doing it. I need to rest and nap more but it's so hard with a 3 and 5 year old and busy at work etc. Just can't wait for mat leave now! I'm so jealous of the two hour naps but good for you! I did that when pregnant with dd2 and dd1 was only 1. 👏👏👏

@HugeAgeGap ahhhh that's so lovely we have the same date. I'm very worried about getting too excited as with my last one it got cancelled on the day 😩 I'm the same, I got really sick of the spinal (during and for the rest of the day) and my BP went through the floor and I almost lost consciousness. Why am i doing this again?! I'm just hoping they'll give me more drugs this time to counter it. I was still in for 48 hours with my elected, i think that's the ideal time but due to corona they're trying to get people out ASAP.

@shiningstarz well hopefully you don't start to feel worse, if you do call MAU or go to a&e and get seen. And no I'm not prepared!!! I've got 10.5 weeks to get sorted though but will get my bum into gear.

Welcome back @glasha87 and yes @Sara7455 you have to stay put and keep us updated on lovely Wren!

My neighbour had a baby at the weekend... 10lbs!!!!
