Hi this thread is for any first timers or anyone really who wants to chat about their imminent arrival and general lack of idea of what to expect!

I realise that there is already an October thread but there seems to be quite a few people who have come a bit late to join in the discussion on there. Hope this doesn't offend anyone

OP posts:

Dalrymps · 13/10/2007 12:15

Hey there, yeah I hope i get someone else for the next scan too! My dh has taken the day off to come with me so he'll set them straight if they're rubbish again.
I slept a bit better last night, still went to the loo loads but managed to sleep quite well in between...dh is very good, keeps offering me back rubs
Erm belly slapping to train babies ... don't think i'll be trying that one!!!
Hope we hear from Miss B soon... catch ya soon peeps

Collywobbles · 13/10/2007 13:27

Hi All

Dalrymps - good to see you on this thread as well as the October one! Good luck with your scan - doesn't sound like it could be much worse than your last one!

Anyone heard anything from MissB? How exciting!

Spending a day of watching sport on TV and eating comfort food with DH - bliss!

xx

Dalrymps · 13/10/2007 13:58

Hey collywobbles, yeah thought i'd join this one too, they're both good but it's good to have the support of other first timers on this one, this baby growing can be a scary business!

WheresMyWaistGone · 13/10/2007 16:17

Hello all

Well, we ended up with visitors last night as our friends' loo was in their bath and their plumber refused to re-connect it...! Still it was nice, if a bit of a late night. Slept quite badly - the aching is kicking in big time.

Been to Borough Market and Sainsbury's today and have lots of lower backache and pain in my lower pelvis. DH grabs me every time I go "oooo" and asks if this is it - at midnight last night he told the bump that today's the day, but if the footie, Strictly Come Dancing and rugby could possibly be avoided, he'd be grateful!

So, here we are, with chocolate brownie, raspberry leaf tea (me), beer (him) and the footie (also him but I can;t be bothered to move!). I need to put the shopping away and do some washing and the tomatoes really need watering...

We're going with re-suable nappies too after the first few days - the Mother-ease one size. They're lovely. I think they'll dry quite easily, so I wouldn't worry if you don't have a dryer. Go to The Nappy lady website and they'll advise you on the best nappy/liner etc combination for you, based on things like whether you have a dryer or not, and then you get a discount if you order with them. The Mother-ease were second in the Which? test (I think Tot Bots were top or it could have been Bumbles) and for disposables, Pampers Baby Dry were the top rated. Obviously we'll use disposables when we're out.

Glad everyone is ok - so excited for news and hoping I won't be long as I'm due today!

xx

Kittiwake · 13/10/2007 16:55

OOOoooh can't believe I missed MissB yesterday sounds like she could be the first of us. Can't wait to hear any news.

WMWG lack of sleep was really getting to me until last night finally managed to get a better night and felt so much better for it hope you do tonight - unless it all kicks off of course! We will be watching SCD and the Rugby too, funny to think of us all out there waiting to see if anything happens!!!

Hi Dalrymps and Collywobbles - I joined the otheh thread ages ago but couldn't keep up with it as it was too long although loads of people on there have had their babies now! Dalrymps that scan experience sounds terrible, hope the next one is better. I was a 6lber too.

Stefka - not sure what to say about your SIL that is really starting early with the routine

Nothing happening here have had no pains today doesn't feel like anything is imminent.

Well been to see the in laws and the nephew was there too so had a practice with him, although he's 10 months old so a little bigger and a lot more curios than a newborn, he tried to stroke our long suffering dog Tess but just ended up pulling a clump of hair out of her head instead, she just looked fed up!
Popped in to town with dh to try and get at least one nursing bra to pack for now but there's only one shop that sels them and it was closed by the time we got there, we arrived at 3.59 and only open until 4 on a sat
Ah well will have to wait until monday now for one if i make it till then! I just had enough energy to get dh a weding anniversay card then had to walk, well waddle back to the car.. feeling a lot of pressure in my pelvis today so i'm back on the sofa doing nothing now

MrsJoJo · 14/10/2007 05:45

Hi ladies

Didn't log on Friday so missed the news with MissB - how exciting, I hope everything's OK with her and can't wait to read her news!

Too many posts since Thursday for me to reply to them all...

I'm hoping to go down the reusable route too - I have some Thai brand ones to try but, if they're utterly useless, I'll be purchasing a set whilst I'm in the UK. My parent's local council do a nappy scheme where you get a free starter pack so I may get them to order me some. Once I've decided which brand to use I'll shop around for the cheapest - lots of them on ebay quite cheap.

My lavendar is working and I've slept well every night since. Saw the obstetrician yesterday and she says LO is engaged and could come any time now... She didn't go into too much detail but she did ask if I was prepared - and mentioned that we need our passports for birth registration which I hadn't thought about.

We purchased a lovely new printer for our computer yesterday (with wedding money) - finally I can stop moaning at DH to print off another draft of my birthplan, medical insurance claim forms etc etc. I ticked off two things on my To Do list which have been there for over a month - and added one for Monday as I reaslised we're lacking some documents which should have arrived from the UK in August (crazy month for us as we got married and had guests staying the entire time).

Lazy day for us today - sun's shining and sky's blue... Would go for a waddle round the park and feed the fish (no ducks to be fed here) but think its a little too warm for that!

Hey everyone, hope you all didn't sleep too badly, I slept quite well apart from waking up at 5.30am really hungry wanting toast but couldn't be bothered to go make any so manged to get back to sleep.
Dh and I are gonne go shopping in newcastle today, just over an hour away, gonne try get a some nursing bras and a stand for the moses basket, then hopefully we'll be able to get a tour of the delivery suite at wansbeck hospital on the way back, we went down last weekend for one but you have to ring an hour before to check they're not too busy and they were too busy! Hope they're not too busy today cause it might be my last chance to see it before i actually go in to labour! Suppose they can't predict how many women will go in to labour on any one day though, i guess it's best cause if i was in labour there i'd like to think they were giving me attention and not giving people a guided tour!
Dh has just repacked Dylans changing/labour bag and put some extra small clothes in it in case the newborn ones we got are too big with him being wee, the little sleepy suits are so sweet .
No real signs labour is imminent at the mo, occasional stomach and back ace in bed last night but nothing significant.
Anyway hope everyone has a nice day, catch ya later

WheresMyWaistGone · 14/10/2007 10:19

Morning all

Well, I slept well last night, once dh stopped snoring...and only had to go for one wee!

Had lots of odd aches and pains last evening though. Very achey lower back, felt sick and had pains in my lower pelvis. Walked them off though after about 10 minutes - dh was rather too engrossed in the rugby to be much help!

My Dad was speaking to a friend who's a retired gaenocologist (sp...?) and he said that I had received excellent care re my racing pulse and also said that the stabbing pains in the lower pelvis are good, but could last for days before anything happens...!!!

Ah well. Have a good day all. Washing and other household chores for me...

Stefka · 14/10/2007 11:01

Glad others slept well - I had a bit of a difficult time last night because of the pain in my back and hips.

I got my DH to take me out last night. We had a curry then went to watch a scary film. I think all I have achieved is that I have given myself a sore tummy though so I won't be doing that again.

Today is my due date - please, pretty please let the baby come!

pinkdelight · 14/10/2007 20:10

Hi everyone,
Sorry to have been absent, but first we had the move to the new house last Friday and all the madness that entailed, including being offline all week - grrr! And then this Friday, the due date, I woke up at 3am with what I thought might be contractions. Not trusting myself to know, I went along to my 40wk appointment at 9am anyway and found out that yes, I was in labour, so went straight to the hospital and ended up having Dylan at 1.40am yesterday. This makes it sound fairly smooth, which it wasn't (e.g. anaesthetist busy in theatre so in the two hours between the pethedine wearing off and finally getting the epidural I completely lost the plot), but at least it was fairly short. And I'm totally in love with him now of course.
Will catch up on all your news as soon as he lets me, but just wanted to update you and to wish you all lots of luck with your imminent LOs.

pinkdelight · 14/10/2007 20:13

When I say 'I'm cmpletely in love with him now', I mean my baby, not the anaethetist. Although I loved the anaethestist when he finally arrived with the drugs!

Stefka · 14/10/2007 22:38

Huge congratulations to you!!! That is such fantastic news - and on the due date too - how cool!

I was due today. I have period like cramps but apart from that no sign. Ah well - the wait continues.

Hope you are enjoying getting to know your LO!

Dalrymps · 14/10/2007 23:10

WOW pinkdelight thats fantastic, congratulations and well done! Bet you're so glad he's finally here, you must feel over the moon

MrsJoJo · 15/10/2007 07:40

Congrats Pink Delight! On you're due date too - what a clever little boy...

A scare for me - doc thinks I may have shingles. Got to go back to the hospital in just over an hour to pick up test results. Only symptom is a raised rash under my arm - slightly sore but doesn't itch. I know its not an allergic reaction to something so have to see if this is the correct diagnosis and then see what my obstetrician reccomends.

WheresMyWaistGone · 15/10/2007 09:37

Wonderful, wonderful news Pink Delight! I wish my LO was as prompt as I like to be too (40+2 now!). I hope you're getting some rest!

MrsJoJo I hope you feel better soon and that it doesn't affect the pregnancy - not sure if it's anything to be very worried about? In any case, it sounds like you're getting good care, which is the main thing. Rest and take things easy!

Off for NCT coffee this morning, but not had a great night - took ages to go to sleep and then it was game over again at 6am...and every time I woke up, my hips were on fire. Hands really achey today too.

Had a good weekend finally clearing the last bits of mess away round the house. DH cooked both nights and made bread too! Just need to put clean washing away and finally sort out his hospital bag today and then we really are ready and waiting. No more recurrances of the pains of Saturday - perhaps it was just LO getting excited about the rugby afterall...?!

Have a good day everyone!

MrsJoJo · 15/10/2007 11:03

Hi ladies

Its confirmed - I have shingles... Doc gave me the full medical term - herpes zortex... Rang my mum in the UK to tell her and she confirmed that this is shingles (she's had it & diagnosed it in both my gran and brother).

My obstetrician won't let me take the oral medication, all I can do is apply cream to the affected area & rest. Aparently it causes extreme tiredness and aches & pains in the affected area - well, tiredness I put down to pregnancy and as the affected area is right near my breats I assumed that was a combination of ill fitting bras and pregnancy too. I'm now avoiding all my pregnant friends, those with newborns and pretty much everyone else. Guess I've got to stay at home and let DH do all the errands outside.

One side effect is that it can cause premature birth so I might not have long to wait now... Will keep you posted.

Stefka · 15/10/2007 11:11

Oh no Miss Jo Jo - how awful for you. Make sure you get plenty of rest and drink lots of water. Is there anyone who can look after you?

I get terrible pain in my hips too WMWG - it's awful because you just can't sleep. I had the hotwater bottle strapped to my back yesterday I was in so much pain.

They tummy pains I had yesterday have once again disappeared. I can't believe I have gone past my due date. I honestly thought I wouldn't be late. I see the midwife tomorrow so I need to decide about this sweep business.

I wonder how Miss B and LNI are getting on!

Hi all

Congratulations pink delight really glad Dylan arrived safely and promptly!!

Mrs JoJo poor you just what you need at the moment! another reason to let DH look after you I guess

Due date for me today, so like WMWG and Stefka waiting for something to happen here. I have an antenatal appt this afternoon so that will take up some time hopefully.

No news from MissB yet hope it's all gone okay.

Sorry to hear you've got shingles MrsJoJo , hope you feel better soon!
Well it's my 2nd wedding anniversary today, not got much planned cause tired ourselves out yesterday with too much shopping, walking, travelling etc. Just enjoying spending the day together and might go out for lunch if we can decide where to go!
Due date tomorrow but i don't feel like it's gonna happen any time soon, some twinges in my pelvis yesterday but i think that was just from the walking... guess i'll have to try to be patient.
Anyway hope everyone has a nice day

Collywobbles · 15/10/2007 11:31

Hi All

CONGRATULATIONS PinkDelight and welcome to little Dylan

MrsJoJo - so sorry to hear about your shingles. What a nightmare! Get yourself plenty of rest.

Stefka - your poor back sounds really painful too. It doesn't seem fair that we should be getting all these extra aches and pains on top of the pregnancy itself!

I've still got a week to go and the thought of going past my due date fills me with dread. I just want it to happen NOW! I'm so fed up with being so big that I can't reach my feet and the slightest activity leaves me needing to sit down and recover. My feet have also started going all numb and puffy if I stand up too long....oh the joys!

Right - off to do some online grocery shopping now...

xx

Stefka · 15/10/2007 20:52

Well that's the end of another day and still no sign. I am officially bored! I can't do much with myself because I get tired and sore. Also people keep calling and texting all the time - as if I wouldn't tell them that I had had the baby or something!?

I see the midwife tomorrow afternoon. I think they may offer me a sweep. I will discuss it with them and see how I feel.

Hope everyone else had a good day.

missbumpy · 15/10/2007 21:11

Hello!

Turns out I was in labour after all (as you might have guessed from my absence!) and I'm now the pround mum of a beautiful baby girl called Rosa

She was born at 12.25 on Saturday after 8 hours of labour (they only count from when you're 3cm dilated so actually I'd say I was in labour for a hell of a lot longer than that!). It turned out that she was back to back which made the pain worse so I couldn't really cope with doing it drug free as I'd planned. Ended up with pethadine and gas and air.

She's absolutely beautiful and I'm totally in love with her. I could just stare at her all day long.

Congrats to Pinkdelight and good luck to all of the rest of you. I'll try to hang out on this board but I'm just finding it difficult to do anything other than breast feed/hold the baby/and sleep at the moment.

Stefka · 15/10/2007 21:40

Whoo hooo! Congratulations Miss B! That is fantastic news! You know it really doesn't matter if the birth doesn't go the way you planned - you have that sweetie in your arms and that is what counts.

Enjoy getting to know Rosa. Fingers crossed I won't be too far behind you!
