Oh and I don't feel the wriggles really at all, not that I could pin-point. Hope that puts some of you mums to be at ease. The scan lady (I know there's a posh word but it escapes me ) said they were really, reall, really jiggling about.

Hungrymama · 21/09/2007 20:14

Thought I might add myself to the list. Keep posting on the wrong thread but think I've made it now !
Came on to check thread after a week or so of not posting and it's taken 45 mins to read through and catch up!!!
Had scan this week - the anomoly one - after being given a 'high risk' from blood tests 1 in 167. No change after scan, consultant says they shouldn't change stats after scan, but all seemed normal. What a wriggler - so cool to see him/her on screen. Bit like a mini Gollum from Lord of the Rings though or am i just a heartless mother with no maternal instinct??? . Really cute moment when they focused on little crossed feet. Great picture of baby looking at hand (or at least looking like it was looking at its hand - in reality probably not !!). With DD we were given the most horrendous scan picture at 20 weeks of a kind of munsch style face - all fuzzy and a bit scary looking! Much better this time round .
NOT having amnio so booked in for extra scans around 28 and 34 weeks to check growth. Until then just going to enjoy the little kicks that I am FINALLY starting to feel! So much for 'you feel it much sooner second time round'!
My bump is much more impressive after a hearty evening meal. In the morning I just look slightly shapeless around the waist. I think people probably think I've just been eating too many pies......

MERLYPUSS · 21/09/2007 20:20

Not heartless at all. One of mine looked like a frog with it's fingers in it's ears.

rozzyraspberry · 21/09/2007 20:26

Hi everyone. We've been away this week and it has taken me ages to catch up! Glad everyones scans went well this week although I'm sorry some of you are having worries with the stats you've been given. Hope you're doing ok samsmam - hopefully you're getting plenty of support.

It's funny that everyones starting to think of names! We've started too. Quite difficult as we've already used our favourite 2 boys names and now have to come up with a third.

Jo - you obviously have the same taste in names as we do. DS1 is called Michael and I wanted to call DS2 Andrew. However, still hadn't decided when I went into labour and agreed to DHs preference of Christopher. This time still like Andrew and DH likes James. I like it too but our surname starts with an S so not sure.

Have a great weekend everyone!

nlsrhtr · 21/09/2007 21:01

I am really trying not to over eat this time around. Does anyone have any "sound bites" (was that a pun?) to help keep portion control in check? One I've thought of, when given the 'Have some more, you're eating for two' line is: 'Yes, only two; not five or six'. Does anyone know how many extra calories are actually needed? I am presuming in the hundreds range, not thousands. Thanks if anyone can help me with this.
Hi Egg- I live in Fredericksburg, north of VA Beach, about a 2 1/2 hour drive (traffic willing).

rozzyraspberry · 21/09/2007 21:07

Apparently you only need extra calories in the 3rd trimester. Even then I think it's only around 200 per day.

nlsrhtr · 22/09/2007 02:45

Thanks, rozzyraspberry.
My Dear Sister is very into eating with Dinner Club and Ladies Night Out each week. I don't participate because I live in a different town, but whenever I'm with her...there is always alot of encouragement to eat. I politely decline, but she can be (is) very pushy. She is significantly overweight and I am in a healthy range. Recently, she was ranting to my DD (13) that I didn't need to watch my weight. Rather ironic, there should be a clue for someone there, and I don't think it is me .

leesmum- you have my deepest sympathy on the passing of your Dad. I hope the grief monster will not be with you long, and that your heart will know peace again very soon.

Amy78 - on names. We are having a girl and my DH likes the name Grayson. I thought it was kind of masculine with the 'son'...so am not too excited about it.

Take care all.

lljkk · 22/09/2007 04:28

Sorry, don't usually comment on names, but "Grayson" for a girl sounds awful to me, could you make it more girlie, maybe.... just Gracie?

Saw my RL due-date buddy yesterday and she was sharing a lot of the same things you gals are, worried she doesn't feel the baby move, etc. She also rides a bike still with toddler on the back like me and we have relatively small bumps -- she's quite pretty though, and dresses smart, while I look and dress my washed out 40 years!

Food-wise: I have had a ravenous few days but still can only eat a limited range of foods or I come over all funny (tired, dizzy, sickie-feeling). I've got to be so paranoid about what I can safely eat, I am reluctant to eat a all. Else I might feel terrible later -- I don't anticipate gaining too much weight....

Amy78 · 22/09/2007 10:43

Hi,

I think Gracie sounds a lovely name for a girl - I agree the Grayson is a bit too masculine. My FIL came up with the suggestion Daisy if it a girl - not too good when our surname is Dunnett - reminds my of something out of the Dukes of Hazard!! Have quite taken to Eilidh for a girl and Aidan for a boy (and so far no -one we know has a cat, dog or child named that - may all change by Feb though!!)

As for movement - I'm 19 weeks today and haven't felt any real movements yet either. Any time I think I've felt something it's followed by a bout of indigestion so I'm never too sure .

Hope everyone's well and have a relaxing weekend!!

princessllama · 22/09/2007 12:44

umm, grayson also the name of the famous transvestite artist, but maybe he hasn't crossed the atlantic
have a goood weekend everyone

SallyInYorkshire · 22/09/2007 13:45

Hi everyone,
just checking back in....
Eilidh - what a gorgous name for a girl! How is it pronounced? (unsubtly trying to figure out if it would go with my surname!!!!!!!!)

Well I am 18+4wks today and have been doing fine. this week I have felt baby kick!!!!!!!!! so exciting!!!!! I have to say it was nothing like what i'd been led to expect by midwife etc. no fluttering butterflies or bursting bubbles... this was a real proper honest-to-goodness KICK! I can also feel it from the outside if I put my hand on my belly!

Amy78 · 22/09/2007 14:35

Hi

Eilidh is pronounced Ay-lay. IT's the Gaelic form of Ellie or Helen. We thought we might try and go for more traditional Scottish names.

SallyInYorkshire · 22/09/2007 15:22

That's lovely.... Don't think it would work for me though because people round here will simply spell it as Hayley (in Yorkshire the h is always silent!!).

Mind you Hayley is itself quite a nice name I think....... goes into reverie on girls' names

Amy78 · 22/09/2007 18:21

Hayley is bonny too! I keep thinking up lots of names and then everytime DH comes back from offshore we can't agree on any! He's into quite trendy kind of names whereas I think I prefer the more traditional ones (which he generally can't stand). At this rate bump will just have to be given a number til their old enough to choose their own name!

We also thought about middle names - if it's a boy after his grandfathers (James and Alexander) and if it's a girl after my grandmothers. That's where we hit the dilemma - Georgina Bella Gertrude seems a bit too much for middle names I think!! Or is that just me?

pobletsmum · 22/09/2007 20:48

Georgina Bella Gertrude... mmm... now let me think . Not quite sure I'd go for that to be honest. I have a friend (since school) who has 3 middle names, including Ursula, and was always teased about it. She also had a long 1st name & surname, which never fitted into the boxes on exam papers etc. I think her parents had it in for her!

I have 2 middle names and would rather that I had just one. It's one of those silly things that always seemed to make me different at school. Everyone else had just one. As a result, my DS has just 1 middle name...

rapunzelle · 22/09/2007 21:23

My scan is first week of Oct and I am determined NOT to find the flavour. No one I know thinks I am capable of this (I found out with my last 2) but after 2 wonderful hippy, dippy home births I am having a planned c section this time :-( and in such a controlled environment I would like 1 surprise.

Names.... I was sure I wasn't having a third, so I have used up all my favourites already. My daughter is Arden Alice and my son is Ben Oscar Dennis. I think Eliza for a girl but we are drawing a blank on a boy and I am quite sure that's what this is. Will keep my eyes peeled on this thread.

Happy kicks everyone.
R x

MERLYPUSS · 22/09/2007 21:27

We are having real problems with names. OH wants them to have my surname as he is asian and his surname is very hard to spell (let alone pronounce). We will have his surname as a kind of middle name, double barrelled thing but only use mine on official documents. MIL wants them to have 3 chriatian names as 3 is lucky in her culture. Imagine that. My surname alone has 11 letters in it and OH's 12. We cant even agree on one each per flavour.
In the running at the moment is Maia & Isobel, Or Thomas & Isaac. Middle name would be Jamie for one twin (for either sex but spelt accordingly) as that was the name of my nephew who died at easter.
Off to Ireland for a week so, behave yourselves and I'll catch up with you all next Saturday.

nlsrhtr · 22/09/2007 21:45

Thanks for the help on discouraging the name Grayson. My DH will be able to let it go in good humor. I googled it and it refers to mostly place names like towns and counties over here. Princessllama-your tip is much appreciated.

I have felt some flutterings, but not everyday.

Take care all.

beansprout · 23/09/2007 10:05

Hi everyone. V exciting to be talking about flavours and names (not so long ago we were just all praying that they would hang on in there!). We are weighing up Emily or Amelie for a girl, and um, are convinced we are having a girl so don't have any boys names! This system worked well for ds!!

Am exhausted after a very intense week of dsd being here inbetween travelling and going off to university. She needed a lot of help to get stuff done and her dad couldn't get out of work and her mum has mental health issues so it fell to me (and ds!!!). Ds is missing her today. I feel for him, as she turns up for a while and then goes away again for weeks but then again, I know this is the reality for a lot of children, often with their parents, so am trying not to get too pfb about it!!!

Hope everyone is having a good day. We are actually going on a date later (our first since January!!!)

SallyInYorkshire · 23/09/2007 12:38

Amy78 - Georgina Bella Gertrude as middle names.. well... I don't think having 3 middle names is SO bad (you could always register them at school with just one of the middle names). Not so sure about Gertrude though - maybe it's just the image I have of Gertrudes! Mind you I reckon Trudi is nice, maybe you could shorten it to that?

rapunzelle - re not finding out flavour this time - Go you! I am the same, my scan is the 1st week of Oct and I have decided I don't want to know whether it is a boy or a girl... despite some pressure from my friends who all desperately want to know for some reason! In fact at the moment I am mysteriously convinced that mine is going to be a boy, but it'll be a lovely surprise either way.

beansprout - Emily and Amelie are both gorgeous names I think! but be warned (if this makes a difference to you) I get the impression Amelie is quite popular at the moment - it's top of the list for quite a few people I know (something to do with the film maybe?). I love French girls' names though... one of my colleagues has called his baby daughter Aurelie.

Egg · 23/09/2007 13:19

Right well as everyone is talking names.... we are keeping it secret in real life but have more or less decided on Jacob for the boy and Rebecca for the girl (DS is called Benjamin).

Loving all this chat!

beansprout · 23/09/2007 13:29

SIY - you are right, a name that is too popular is not ideal. Ds's is v unusual, so maybe I am just swinging the other way!

Slacker · 23/09/2007 13:55

Beansprout - Amelie is lovely but it is getting quite popular, I know of at least 3. LOL that you're convinced you're having a girl, so you're not thinking of boy names - I was convinced DS2 was a girl and ended up spending days trying to name the unexpected boy....his name is the one I'm least happy with of all my children's names, so I'd at least have a shortlist of possibles just in case.

I'm at least 90% sure this is a boy, and the name is the same as DD would have been if she were a boy, but I'll still have some girls names in reserve just in case.

Went to an NCT sale yesterday and bought some baby clothes, and starting to get some bits and pieces off ebay - still haven't decided which nappies to get though. Or whether to get a pram. Or a moses basket. Will probably leave most things till after the baby arrives and buy as I need them.

beansprout · 23/09/2007 13:58

I thought ds was a boy and just had a block and couldn't come up with any girl's names and now the reverse is happening this time! You are right, we should come up with a list!!

Was supposed to be going on a date with dh this afternoon (second one this year... ooohh!!) but SIL is late so it's going to be cut short. Better still, have had a row with dh as he thinks I am being unreasonable for being fed up about it!! Gah!

alkar · 23/09/2007 17:18

Anyone else had a cold lately? I have had one for about a week which developed into a really chesty cough as I can't take anything for it. Ended up at the walk in centre yesterday as I was having trouble breathing and was given an inhaler. I have never had asthma or any other breathing problems before. Anyone heard of pregnancy-induced asthma???
