Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Tallulah1978 · 13/11/2007 13:41

Hi All - just an update from my funny turn last week with the itching and swollen lips (on my face!) - I saw my midwife who talked me through OC and we decided together that we thought it probably wasn't and it sounded more like an allergy. She took blood and sent it off to test my liver function anyway to be on the safe side and it call came back fine. So feeling well again and relieved it's nothing to worry about.

I am being told I am MASSIVE on a daily basis and I do feel full up with baby, but I like it. I was a size 8 before and it's nice having curves a (and boobs!) Although, even for my obviously pregnant stature I still don't get offered a seat on the bus. I have started huffing and puffing at people - I like the description of 'sense of entitlement' - it's true! I was in the supermarket buying a 10kg bag of dog food - I asked a handy male employee if he wouldn't mind taking it to the checkout for me and then out to my car - I then overheard the girls on the till having a good bitch about me 'why does she need help? silly cow - when I was 7 months pregnant I was.......blah di blah - climbing mount bloody everest';they made me really embarrassed and I felt really pathetic. Had a boo in the car on way home but DP assured me I was well within my rights to ask for help. I wanted to slap the girls face and I am not violent!

Have made decisions over when to start Maternity leave this week and have decided to take two weeks leave prior to starting on 8th Feb (due 24th) so will finish 24 January. Yay!

Hope you're all having a good week! (my post are always so loooooooong - soz!! x

beansprout · 13/11/2007 13:49

Talluah - take no notice of them. You are looking after yourself and your baby, nothing to be ashamed of there. There are also people walking around saying, "I drank/smoked etc when I was pregnant, didn't do me any harm" etc etc, so it's hardly a sound argument!!

I also have a poorly ds. Is practically clinging to my leg and wants mummycuddles the whole time. The only thing that enables me to do anything else is Cbeebies...

Jo9977 · 13/11/2007 14:09

I so sympathise/agree with you Tallulah - if you want help then you want help - tough what anyone else thinks!!! And I'm a firm believer in the 'I'm x months pregnant, give or take 2 months depending on whether I want someone to help/notice or not' method of sticking stomach out or pulling it in. Let's face it, there's little enough sympathy out there at the best of times...let's make the most of it!

I find my perfected Paddington Stare works wonders too...

rozzyraspberry · 13/11/2007 14:40

Tallulah - I know its easy for me to say but I really wouldn't let people like that upset you. If they have nothing better to do than talk about people they don't even know then poor them!! They probably don't remember how hard/uncomfortable it can be when you're pregnant - you do forget a lot of the unpleasant things once you have your baby. You shouldn't be lifting heavy things or stretching when you're pregnant - what's the point in putting yourself or your baby at risk for the sake of carrying some dog food - definitely get help! I get my shopping delivered now so I don't have to push a heavy trolley round the supermarket - still can't be bothered unpacking it though so get it delivered when I'm at work and DH is at home with the boys

Beansprout - thank god for CBeebies - all rules on how much they can watch go out the window on days like today!

beansprout · 13/11/2007 17:04

And what's more, lucky old them if they breezed through pregnancy. There are plenty of women who end up utterly debilitated by SPD or any manner of pregnancy related conditions. Shame on them.
Tbh, I would have turned to them and made a comment, but then again, I'm not known for my diplomacy skills!

And absolutely yes to lots of Cbeebies. All the more reason for him to go to nursery on Thursday before his brain rots.

tyaca · 13/11/2007 17:27

tallulah - i am fuming on your behalf. that would have sent me into a corner sobbing for days to be honest.

just back from my switch over appointment at st thomas and all went well. lovely lovely MW, sorted loads of loose ends of mine (have not been in touch with MW services at all, so a bit out of loop).

various bits and bobs took forever tho' started at 9am and not out til 1pm! had arranged to meet my mum for lunch at half eleven and she had to wait forever for me.

the maternity unit is on 7th/8th floor of hospital, right on the thames. so high up opposite house of parliament and views across london. it's spectacular.

downside is that claustrophobe idiot me had to walk those eight floors of stairs rather than get lift. have images of willfully doing the stairs in three months time in the middle of labour.

Slacker · 13/11/2007 17:51

Tallulah - I would go back in and speak to the manager, and tell them that I was so offended that I was considering not shopping there anymore, those comments go beyond acceptable IMHO. But then I complained in Borders the other day that the toilets weren't clean enough so I'm fairly shameless about such things . You definitely shouldn't be made to feel that you should be lugging 10kg bags around, every pregnancy is different and if you feel you need help that's your business. Cheeky cows .

Had midwife appointment today; it's so relaxing to have someone who cares about what my issues are and wants to resolve them, instead of being obstructive like previous midwives I have encountered. All is well and I'm really enjoying this pregnancy at the moment - long may that last!

Tallulah1978 · 14/11/2007 10:57

Thanks all for your words of support - I feel much better about it and wish I had said something, I just worry I am being unreasonable about things in my pregnant state - oh well, shan't dwell - bigger fish to fry! Altho I shall be practicing my Paddington Bear stare for future occasions.

Still enjoying my pregnancy so much and am very excited and feel glowy and well.

Tyaca - my friend is just the same with lifts - and indeed when she had her baby six months ago she was crawling on her hands and knees up the stairs to the labour ward - it took 25 minutes to do 3 flights apparently.

Slacker - uuuuugh - dirty toilets - nothing worse - esepcially at the rate we have to pay a visit at present!

Gill79 · 14/11/2007 13:51

Tallulah - what a load of bitches! That's shocking. I would definitely suggest making a complaint - although I would probably end up getting DP to do it! As a fellow first-timer I'm always unsure about what I should or shouldn't be doing and whether I'm taking things too cautiously so comments like that are definitely not helpful. Hope you weren't too upset - I imagine those girls might have felt a little remorse if they could have seen you crying in the car though.

DP back from his week's holiday and we had a bit of an emotional reunion - after a hard week and a weekend spent driving to my parents and back I went straight to the new house to meet him and he appeared as if my magic to park the car in the tiny space for me. Unfortunately due to my directions or his clutch control we made a nice dent in the new neighbour's bumper . So it all got a bit tearful......

Latest "controversy" on drinking here - the comments are great - "the scientists are clearly wrong, I know so much more than them, any alcohol harms your baby blah blah blah." Anyway a unique take on the issue hopefully this will help assuage any guilt for those who might have gone on a bender or two before finding out they were pregnant!

93pjb · 14/11/2007 14:11

Hi Tyaca, there is a good antenatal yoga class at St Thomas' on Wednesday and Thursday nights if you are interested. Very relaxing. www.sitaram.org (although it is also on the 8th floor so you'd be really fit by the end of pg!)

tyaca · 14/11/2007 15:33

Hiya 93pjb

Ty for tip off.

I live five min away from the Sitaram centre in Streatham Hill and keep meaning to make the Sat morning class. So far, no joy (weekens spent sleeping or working!), but finish my current contract in four weeks so hopinbg to be a regular from then onwards.

Just checked your details on our group list to see if you're local, and note you're in Cambridge. That's one hell of a billing for a yoga class if you're travelling in that far!

Gill - cheers for the link. Saw the story in someone else's Metro this morning and wondered what it was about.

manamana · 15/11/2007 11:44

Hello all. Quiet day today? I've just come back from physio appt and spd is quite a bit worse, going to get some crutches next week which I'm pleased about as may be able to get out and about a bit more. Have gp appt tomorrow when I'm hoping to get signed off until mat leave starts at Christmas or will just take holiday/bring mat leave forward as sitting at desk not possible anymore. Still got a bit of work to do from home but have given myself deadline of next friday - was bit upset on Monday as I really like my job/office and don't feel like I want to leave yet but now that I've had a couple of days to think about it have decided to just focus on looking after myself and pottering around to get ready for christmas and new baby! Tallulah, I would have been exactly the same - in tears before the car though probably! if you have the energy write a letter of complaint to the store, you're bound to get an apology and some vouchers. last time i was pg i ate some taramasolata that we'd just bought from sainsburys which turned out to be past its useby date, dh wrote letter to complain and point out how much shopping we would be doing with our expanding family and we got £50 vouchers!

Bessie123 · 15/11/2007 11:48

Hi all. Have been offline for a few days with a sinus infection that won't shift (thanks for all the sympathy, btw )

Rozzy - hope all is ok with you

Beansprout - I always unbutton my coat on the tube so people can see I'm pregnant. There are still some selfish, horrible people who don't stand up but I usually get a seat. I reckon if you asked someone to stand up for you, they would be too embarrassed to say no (although I wouldn't dare try it)

Slacker · 15/11/2007 14:18

Bessie - poor you I'm finding that I'm unable to shift a cold/throat thing that normally I'd get through in a couple of days, our bodies are just working too hard looking after those babies!

MAnamana - sorry the SPD has got worse, would you be able to sit at a desk if you didn't have to sit on a chair? Last pg when I had SPD I spent a lot of time at my desk (at home!) on my birth ball which helped, I guess there might be H&S implications doing that at work though.

Tallulah - honestly, if it's a supermarket you go in regularly you should speak to the manager, they may well try and win back your good opinion with vouchers! When I complained in Borders the guy told me the toilets were due to be refurbished so I gave him a (polite) earful - it was the lack of toilet roll and general uncleanliness that was the problem, that's nothing to do with refurb - I told him they were a disgrace! Could feel myself ing but it needed to be said...

I really need to find a coat, it's blimmin freezing today! Several in Monsoon that I like (swing coats) but what's with the huge collars/no collars styling?! I want something I like enough to wear for a couple of years not just for the next 2 months....Nearly got one in Sainsburys today as all clothes were 25% off and it looked alright on,but it was bright red, I like to try and blend in a bit when I've got a huge bump, which I'm sure I will after christmas! Got a couple of nice tunic style tops there for practically nothing, I'm finding that even some of the maternity tops I have aren't long enough to cover my bump when my trousers are slipping a bit (as they do). Oh, got plain black maternity trousers in M&S yesterday for £9.50 a pair, which I thought was not bad at all!

My midwife is great so far, she's taken on a list of admin tasks including telling the health visitor I won't be requiring her services, finding a birth pool liner for me as the company I'm hiring off have stopped doing them, and she's even given me a perfectly good Britax car seat that an ex client asked her to find a good home for. So I'm feeling pretty well prepared now, concentrating on building up my nappy collection, there are some good deals to be had on Used Nappies if you don't mind the idea of second hand nappies.

beansprout · 15/11/2007 14:24

Mana - sorry to hear that your SPD is so painful. I would feel odd too about finishing work earlier than I had intended so I do sympathise. Hope the crutches help too.

London commuters are just fantastic at ignoring each other. I had to stand again this morning. May just take to asking. Some seats have signs that say, "please give up this seat..." etc to might target those people!

It's my birthday today. Am now 38. Gulp. Feel that bit closer to having this baby. So far it's been, "I'll be 38 when I have this baby" and er, now I am!! Yikes!!!

ruva · 15/11/2007 15:47

Hi Beansprout,
happy birthday its also my birthday and am turning 35, I have no energy to go out as was at antenatal yoga yesterday.i was just thinking i am an old cow and the combined age for me and hubby is 37 + 35 so our first baby due feb will think we are ancient.

Amy78 · 15/11/2007 17:28

Happy Birthday ruva and beansprout!! Hope you are getting pampered and spoilt rotten.

Mana - can sympathise totally with you on the SPD front. It took me weeks to persuade my various midwives (all locums) that something wasn't right and I was in agony at work. Finally went to my GP who signed me off for a fortnight. Am still waiting for my initial physio appointment (that's 4 weeks now) Knowing the speed that things work around this neck of the woods bump will be here by the time I get my appointment card through! I mst admit that I have been struggling at work (am a special needs teacher) so I am now going to have to be hands off with the kids until maternity leave starts. Not going down well with many of my colleagues (mostly male of course) . I bet if they had to go through pregnancy you wouldn't have to work at all throghout it!!

beansprout · 15/11/2007 17:58

Happy Birthday ruva!! Don't worry, the combined age of me and dh is now 88, so please reassure your dh that he is fine!!

ruva · 15/11/2007 18:24

Hi Beanie and amy,
Thank you for the birthday greetings- just sitting at home waiting for dH to come and laughing hard at the combined ages -you shall spill my baby from lapro scar- i am wearing a maternity dress from zara very pretty-But they forgot to make the lining maternity so its a bit tight and i am thinking after dh walks in and complements me i am taking it off-Blush !!i mean i will wear something else.
I am starving but since i did not want to go into the city- i am waiting for a bag of chips with lots of vinegar.

Amy hope spd gets better soon.

minxy125 · 15/11/2007 19:22

Thought I would add myself to roll call!! I'm suffering with the dreaded cold and sore throat too, although not all bad as DP has been pandering to my every need!! Which has been lovely!
Happy birthday beansprout and ruva, hope you have both had great days and both been treated like princesses!!
I finally got round to getting a maternity coat, didn't spend to much but it is a swing coat so will be suitable in the months after baby!
Sorry to all those suffering with probs, spd, colds, ignorant shop assistants, and commuting, so glad I don't have to catch train, bus or tube.
Is anyone else's emotions all over the place still?? I was watching steele magnolias earlier and really had a good cry, I mean full on hyperventilating!! Glad DP was at work!!
For fear of this turning into an essay I will say bye for now!!

Hi everyone. Haven't been on for a while, work is a nightmare, can't wait to leave!!! Had jabs and blood tests!! Am on the iron tablets now which are actually helping me feel a lot more awake which is good!!! Bubs is wriggling well and although I don't feel like I'm getting bigger, my bump is definitely spreading!!! Starting to feel a bit down about being pg over the xmas season but I'm sure i'll get over that!! I love xmas so looking forward to getting all the decs out again!!
Hope everyone is well x

Happy Birthday Beansprout and Ruva

Hi to minxy

ruva are you new to this thread? if so you're very welcome, add your details to the list. x

CountTo10 i got a call from doc's today to say blood results were back..and i too have a lovely prescription at docs for iron tablets waiting for me. If they help with tiredness and breathlessness then so be it.

Morning - hope the birthday girls had a nice day yesterday!

I unfortunately managed to pick up the kids stomach bug and spent the whole day yesterday in bed. Feeling much better today although my stomach muscles are really sore from the vomitting - makes babys kicking a bit uncomfortable. I usually work a 3 day week but was planning on working 4 days this week as I'm busy. So worked Mon, Tues, Weds but had to phone in sick yesterday. Do you think I can still ask to be paid overtime for Monday even though I was then off sick yesterday? Part of me thinks if I worked full time I wouldn't be expected to make up time for sickness, but another part thinks I only worked 3 days so should only be paid for 3 - what does everyone think?

Sorry some of you are struggling with SPD - that sounds awful.
