Happy Birthday to all those celebrating this week and welcome to newbies.

Not sure about legalities of pt work but i would have thought that if you're off sick it doesn't matter whether you're pt or ft! Best to check with work, i don't think you're being cheeky though.

Gill79 · 16/11/2007 11:34

Tricky one Rozzy. I think legally you're probably entitled to the day as sick leave since if you're sick on holiday you can claim a day back. (Don't quote me on it though)Suppose it depends on what your relationship is with work and how you think they'll take it, and if you care how they'll take it!

Have been prescribed iron tablets too - by post Since the accompanying letter also said my blood group and antibodies tests would need to be redone since the lab hadn't accepted the sample labelling, and I had the results of my blood group and antibodies tests eight weeks ago, I am a little unconvinced by this.

Am I right in thinking you would only need to be tested once for blood group and antibodies? (not likely to change is it?)

The SPD sounds horrible..... not long to go though ladies.

widgetsmummy · 16/11/2007 12:17

hey all!

hope all the birthdays were fun - we might all have LOs in our arms when mine comes around on March 1st!

getting a bit fed up with work, involves a lot of walking which and meeting general public, who all with the best will in the world ask me when I'm due... its just the when i say Feb 11th. do feel very pregnant (but am munching on bag of marshmellows so you know!!)

got nice swing coat from New Look just a size larger than normal which should last me, does all of a sudden feel cold and festive - I love Christmas and once thats gone the babes will be coming! how can Santa compete with that!!??

CountTo10 · 16/11/2007 21:02

Work is getting me down too at the mo but I just keep thinking only 5 more weeks, only 5 more weeks!!! then it will be xmas and then only another month or so!!!

The iron tablets definitely work but just make sure you're eating a lot of roughage as they can cause a bit of constipation if you're not careful!!!

Re the overtime vs sickness, I've always claimed them seperately. A full time employee would not be expected to make up their sick time, so a part timer shouldn't either. It's just coincedence that you've worked overtime in the same period, if you hadn't, they still have to pay you sick pay.

As we speak bubs is doing some sor of somersault ending with something sticking into my rib cage!!!

beansprout · 16/11/2007 21:13

I'm with Countto10's assessment on the sick/overtime debate. If you have worked a day that is not your usual working day, then you should be paid overtime. If you were sick on the day you were due to work overtime, then no, you couldn't claim that but this wasn't like that.

Am starting to count the remaining working weeks too. Am finishing at xmas so only 5 weeks left for me. Bump is really aching today, something to do with being kicked ALL DAY!!! Arghhh!!!!

Hope everyone is well.

rozzyraspberry · 17/11/2007 08:58

Thanks all re the advice on the overtime payment. I'd be really hacked off if I didn't get paid it as I could have stayed home on Monday and still got paid the same. I was kind of counting on the extra cash. My boss is really good usually so hopefully will be ok. I've only had a couple of days sick since I started working there 6 1/2 years ago so they know I would only take a day sick if I was really ill.

Countto10 - that's a bit scary to think of it like that - 5 weeks untill Christmas then I've only 3 weeks back after that. Then 3 weeks until due date! We really need to get the junk out of the nursery and get it painted!! I know he won't really need a room when he first arrives but it's hard enough finding time to do things now - never mind when we have 3 small boys in the house!

Have a good weekend everyone!

Pk616 · 17/11/2007 09:14

Hello peeps,

just a little introduction...

I'm due Feb 8th with my first (possibly a girl)

28, living with partner in social housing (nightmare to get re-housed by the way! apparently they have no obligation to provide a room for my child until s/he's 3 years old ), one year into a degree course (which I've had to let go of until next september at least) and a proud mom to two cheeky cats

gingermumi · 17/11/2007 10:17

Hi PK and welcome. Cut and paste yourself on the list! What are you doing your degre in? (just being nosey, did mine as a mature student too!)

Pk616 · 17/11/2007 10:51

Don't worry about being nosey, I'm a really open person so I don't mind.

I'm doing my degree in Embroidery.

I lost confidence at college when I was 17 and chickened out of going after my BTEC. When I lost my job at the tail end of 2005 I floated around the jobcentre lost, unable to find anything that took my fancy and full of woe for months and then Feb 2006 the JSA stopped so I was jobless AND cut off without a penny (DP and I didn't know that working tax credits existed so we went from srapped to struggling!).

Anyway, we'd been trying for a baby for years with no joy (I have PCOS and hardly any periods) so I thought
"No job, no income, no children... I'll re-train"
and off I toddled to uni to do that degree I should have done 9 years previously!

And we fall pregnant, naturally, surprisingly, before I've even finished the first year!

MERLYPUSS · 17/11/2007 15:01

Hiya
Got my pushchair last weekend. Its a fab red twin nipper. Got an absolute bargain too. Am leaving work on Friday so will be able to pop in more often. Ta-ta for a bit

Egg · 17/11/2007 20:03

Hi PK and congrats on your pregnancy! Sod's law on the timing, but I bet you are still over the moon...

Having a ten min timeout from stress as have inlaws staying and am reading to kill MIL. They have gone for a quick drink while I get dinner ready (my suggestion, I wanted them OUT).

Merlypuss, that's the pushchair I wanted but didn't fit through my door. Am happy with my powertwin though, it is lovely, just annoyed I can't use the surfer board for DS if back seat is reclined or I have a car seat on, which I will do permanently when babies are little, so not sure what will happen to poor DS.

Anyway, have not managed to catch up on all of thread but hope everyone is ok. Beany I feel bruised inside from the kicking, they are manic in there at the moment and it feels so FULL.

beansprout · 17/11/2007 20:08

Egg (and other twin carriers), I can only imagine what double kicks feel like. You have my full sympathy on that one.
I think baby is still transverse but will see what the GP says when I go this week.

I seem to carry "up front" so basically look like I have a football stuffed up my top. This will look like a space hopper by the end of January.

Welcome to PK!

CountTo10 · 17/11/2007 20:45

Evening all!! Anyone had any early nesting urges? All I want to do is clean and tidy and everyone using things is driving me mad!!!!

Welcome pk - feb 8th is my bday!! I'm due the day before but am convinced bubs will turn up on my bday!!!

Rozzy - I'm exactly the same with the whol nursery thing - it's a real work in progress!!!!

Pk616 · 18/11/2007 00:47

CountTo10 - I've had nesting urges from the word go. Not constantly, that really would drive DP crazy, but just before DD has a growth spurt I become a homemaking lunatic.

I've painted the bathroom myself, and nearly crippled myself in the process!,

moved the living room around myself (including moving massive items of furniture from one end of room to the other),

I've cleaned the kitchen from top to bottom and inside every cupboard,

I've swept the yards and paths of the communal garden we share with 9 households that gets looked after by gardeners,

I've rearranged all the cupboards and drawers in the house

I've thrown out/given away 5 car loads of stuff

and then there's normal cleaning that just gets taken up a notch or done in the middle of the night because I couldn't sleep knowing it has to be done!

I'm normally really laid back about the housework, so long as actual tumble weed isn't rolling across the carpet the vacuuming can wait, that kind of thing so when I fist started doing this stuff it came as a bit of a shock.

8th feb is a good day for a birthday! but I have a feeling that DD is going to follow my foot steps and be about a week late - a shame cause she'd probably hate a valentines day birthday!

Pk616 · 18/11/2007 00:51

beansprout - My bump just suddenly appeared over the last few days, I swear!
I've gone from looking like I really could do with some exercise to a blatant preggie belly just like that! can't get my hat on!

Pk616 · 18/11/2007 00:59

Egg - defo over the moon!
terrified and totally unprepared but could not be happier!

twins eh, wow! I love babies and you get two, luck lady!

leesmum · 18/11/2007 10:04

Good morning ladies

Pk welcome and congratulations on your pregnancy you must be thrilled!!

Am 30 weeks tomorrow and i am about as big now as i was when Ds was born, so i dread to think what i'll look like by christmas, christmas pudding anyone?

Beansprout my baby was transverse until i started getting on all fours i think(hope) he is now head down but if you look at clock face and say baby should be 12.30, i think this one's more 10.25. Anyway i'm at the mw on fri so i should see if my hard work has paid off!

CountTo10 i have started THINKING about getting some jobs done but can't be arsed... i finish work on the 15th and ideally wanted everything done by then so i could enjoy christmas with my boys and not be worrying about baby comming early but i am planing to make a start on my christmas cards tonight, i have about 100 to write out and dp only has 1 (that's mine) and even then i know he'd like to say "what should i put in it"!!

Have a lovely weekend everyone x

93pjb · 18/11/2007 11:48

Hi Tyaca (response to post ages ago) I work in London and usually stay in Southwark during the week so although the yoga class is really good it is also convenient - I'm not that dedicated!

Has anyone else weighed themselves lately? I have been avoiding it - didn't really want to know... But got on the scales this morning and I've put on a stone!! Baby only weighs 2 pounds apparently so the rest is fluid and me . I know it's pretty normal and there are far more important things to worry about but it is depressing all the same (especially given how much I eat at christmas normally...)

rozzyraspberry · 18/11/2007 12:04

Welcome Pk and big congratulations. I have a friend with PCOS who has just started ttc and is really concerned it might take a while too.

93pjb - I'd be delighted if I'd only put on a stone - that's all I'm saying. But I have only put on bulk on my bump - I'm like you beansprout - my bump looks exactly like a football up my t-shirt - looks fake actually!!

I had a bit of a big pregnancy brain moment yesterday. Was at my mums with the boys whilst dh was at work - fuel a bit low so went and put unleaded petrol in on way home - realised a couple of miles down the road when the car started jumping a bit that it's diesel! Couldn't believe it - what a stupid cow. In my defence I'm still not feeling 100% since my stomach bug and dh usually drives that car and fills up whilst I usually use the other car which uses unleaded petrol. Anyway didn't turn out as bad as I'd thought it would - managed to get it to a garage within a couple of hours who took out the petrol and cleaned it all out and there was no damage to the engine. So although it was an expensive mistake (£140) I thought it was going to be much much more. So I've now decided I really shouldn't be let out on my own for the duration of this pregnancy!!! Luckily dh was lovely and was more concerned about getting me and the boys home safe than about the car or potential cost. To make me feel even more stupid when ds1 (who'll be 5 in 2 weeks)heard me talking on the mobile he said 'mummy did you put petrol in the vectra? But you should have put diesel in' He knows more about cars than me!!

Pk616 · 18/11/2007 15:48

Hiya leesmom and rozzy.

rozzy, tell your friend not to try too hard - don't do the temperature monitoring thing or anything too scientific, it takes all the fun out of it and actually lowers your chances of conception. I firmly believe that what really got me pregnant was eating only organic food (non organics contain remnants of fetilisers and insectisides ect which are synthetic hormones and the last thing you wasnt with PCOS is more bleedin hormones!)and forgetting that we were trying! I only had 2 periods a year so if I can get up the duff the chances are in her favour! Tell her not to worry about it and to just have fun basically!

Rofl at the car by the way, pregnancy really does mess with ya marbles doesn't it!

93pjb, I've not weighed my self and nor will I (unless the midwife makes me!) I think the shock at my new weight could send me into labour I've got that big!

gingermumi · 18/11/2007 16:52

Hi ladies.

Put on loads of wieght at beginning but have not put on any for weeks and weeks. baby is doing fine so i'm not worrying about it.

We have started nursery but it's taking ages 'cos dh still not 100% mobile and fibriod squashes everything if i bend (must be amusing to watch us tho!). Biggest problem is getting rid of dd2's magenta and black colour scheme (she's in dd1's room)- we have to paint each wall three times in white before we can do the funs bits. Even though we know LO is a boy we have decided to go for lemon with a zoo border ('cos it was reduced!). It will get done eventually and then we have to do dd2's room too! Yay! She's taking forever to choose what she wants but i'd like to get it done before christmas as i think LO will arrive early.

Enjoy the rest of the weekend eveyone!

MERLYPUSS · 18/11/2007 20:31

I weighed myself a while ago and havent since. I'd put on 12lb. My bump now measures 44'' round the largest bit and I so far, avoided any stretch marks. Been using palmers cocoa butter and it is ok by and large.
I am leaving work on Friday as I have a sneaking suspicion that the twinnies will come early. It only realistically gives me Dec and as far into Jan to go. I need a rest too as work has been bonkers and my fat feet, bad sleeping and lack of balance are getting me down. At least I am not cooking Xmas dinner this year. We had 17 last year for lunch.
BTW - I have dropped off the 'when are they due' list.

alkar · 18/11/2007 20:38

Had a 3d scan yesterday, really really good. Was in there for an hour and came away with 48 photos on CD and a 10 minute DVD. It is lovely to know what he looks like now, he has my mouth and DHs nose. The sonographer said the cord was huge so I guess thats why I'm so tired - LO is taking everything I'm eating!

Birthday today, very weird when you can't drink and celebrate as usual!!!

Pk616 · 19/11/2007 07:57

HAPPY BIRTHDAY for yesterday alkar

Bessie123 · 19/11/2007 10:02

Happy birthday, Alkar.

I weighed myself yesterday and have put on 1 stone 10 pounds. Midwife says I'm fine, but it was a bit of a shock. I guess it's all the chocolate and cake

Rozzy - I'm sure you've sorted it out by now, but I think there is anti discrimination legislation for part time employees.

Slacker - have you looked in Zara for a coat? They have a swing jacket (which is probably not warm enough for v cold weather) for about £70 and you will be able to wear it after the pregnancy as well.
