manamana · 08/11/2007 11:19

oooeeee, that sounds nasty! hope he tries it in the day next time. nothing so dramatic over here but have measured bump and weighing in at a generous 41"!!!

Hungrymama · 08/11/2007 12:00

leesmum - you probably know this, but try to spend as much time on all fours as possible (!!) - it's easier for baby to turn and move when you're like this. They advise this even in the last weeks so he should have enough room to manage it at the moment. Enough for him, perhaps not enough for you ..................

Hungrymama · 08/11/2007 12:12

By the way - inspired to measure bump after reading some previous posts - 37", but I'm only just 26 weeks today. People do keep asking, 'how many months are you?' - which I never know the answer to, since 40 weeks is 10 months if you just divide by 4 (and who has the brain power to divide it by something more complex???) - and when I say 'about six' they look all alarmed and as if I might be making things up. Can't help it - dd was the same - there just must be a lot of room inside me - though personally I feel as if my internal organs are being seriously squished!

manamana · 08/11/2007 12:26

There is real bump judgement out there, I think i'm 26 weeks this week (calendar has fallen down back of shelves and dh is away so will be there for a while!) and am going for 6 months, or baby due end of Jan as everyone keeps telling me how enormous i am which is pretty annoying. Hungrymama, just tell them you have super abs which are holding the baby in! Happened last time and muscles are shot now so i imagine i must be bigger this time. A friend at work was pg at same time as me last time and was much smaller, so comparisons were endless - both ended up having pretty much same size babies. Have never had the problem of random bump-touching though which i know drives some people mad, think maybe they are just repelled by my enormousness!

violeta · 08/11/2007 13:16

Someone here on Mumsnet worked out a handy formula to convert weeks to months, which I have here next to my computer!
So:
Multiply the number of weeks you are by 7.
Add on the number of extra days you are to this total (so if you are 25 weeks, 3 days add 3 here)
Then divide the total by 30.4.

Egg · 08/11/2007 13:20

I tend to go for weeks, but if I want to say months I just go from date of last period, ie for me 29 April, so I was 6 months on 29 October, so now I am 6 months and 10 days! Much easier if you don't have a calculator!

Scan is at 2:40pm, then appt with consultant, so wont be home for aaaaaaaaages as consultant always late. Will report back tonight hopefully after DS in bed.

Leesmum, I had something similar the other night. I fell asleep about 9:30, then woke up an hour later in agony, but it didn't feel like contraction agony or anything thank god, and I felt really wide, as though someone was crossways trying to turn. I sat up, and then wandered a bit as I couldn't lie down, and it gradually seemed to move around and settle down again. Hoping someone did move as both have been breech for a while as far as I know. Will find out later!

Slacker · 08/11/2007 13:35

Ginger - got the sling from Big Mama slings but it was a one off reduction, customer return I think. A Peanut Shell small fleece pouch for £15! What a bargain, except it doesn't bloody fit! I had a fleece pouch last time in a medium which was too big, but I forgot to factor in that I started this pregnancy at least a stone heavier! Oh well, maybe I'll slim down into it. Also want to get a Connecta carrier but not sure it looks great for a newborn. So I'll probably get yet another fleece pouch - cheaper to buy a pram at this rate!

gingermumi · 08/11/2007 14:41

Thanks slacker, love the furry conecta! Will also look at big mama.

Mana, have been to antenatal physio at St Richards today - was the giving birth one - went on a bit long but dh found it quite useful (number 3 for me, number 1 for him!). Have you got dates to go yet? Not sure i would recommend classes, depends what you've read up on so far (and can't remember if this is your first or not!).

My bump has shrunk - now 46 inches not 48! I think it's 'cos i am eating a lot less as fibroid is crushing my tummy more than baby. He's growing but i'm not, which I think is a good thing - less to battle with afterwards!

Gill79 · 08/11/2007 16:12

yikes - sounds like there's a lot of discomfort out there. Swimming's supposed to be good if the baby's back to back, not sure if it works for sideways! Not had any of that thank goodness but bump is starting to change shape as I watch - am really self-conscious about it on the underground and feel like I'm going to get the giggles, sure that everyone must be watching my tummy move around! Feel like I have bonded with the baby this week with boyfriend being away, as we've been off having adventures by ourselves and can have a nice chat without feeling silly.

Egg · 08/11/2007 18:21

Saw a lovely sling at John Lewis the other day, but not worth buying as have one sling, and it's not as tho I can carry them both .

Anyway, good news all good at scan. Dory has her head in my pelvis like a good girl. Nemo is breech like a naughty boy... They couldn't calculate Dory's approximate weight as head was impossible to measure, but Nemo was 1173 grams, which works out as 2.58lbs! From my book it says that a single baby should be about 2lbs now... Arrrgghh. Dory seems to be a bit smaller from the leg and abdomen measurements, but still within normal range. And we double checked the bits, definitely a boy and a girl . Next scan is now 5 December and depending on the position then we will know what course of action for birth.

rozzyraspberry · 09/11/2007 08:03

Glad your scan went well Egg! My pregnancy book says baby will be around 2lbs 7 at 28 weeks so Nemo pretty much bang on!! How does it work with twins? There can't be enough room for 2 in the cervix so do they sort of queue up head down?

I'm pretty sure my lo is not head down at the moment - most of the movement I'm feeling is in the middle low down so think he's probably feet first. Only 27 weeks so though he's got another 7/8 weeks to turn around. Anyway from experience when they are head down and start kicking you under your ribs its a bit uncomfortable so he can stay that way for the moment!!

Bit worried about work at the moment - my boss has just found out he's to have major back surgery in December so as well as training my mat leave cover I'll be spending my last 7 weeks covering his work too. Beginning to regret agreeing to work up to 37 weeks now!

I'm still feeling pretty good although starting to get more uncomfortable in the evenings. Three months is starting to feel like a long time away. When I'm working out how many months I am I compare the date to my due date. So as I'm due on 9th Feb I'm 6 months today as it's 9th November.

Hope everyone else is well and looking forward to the weekend.

Egg · 09/11/2007 08:42

Hmmm yes I rechecked my book and it said 2lbs 4 for week 28 so I guess it is ok after all. I am pleased really, the chances are they will come early so I want them to get big and strong!

Can you change your mind about working til week 37? I think I was told I could change my leaving date as long as I gave 4 weeks notice of the change (unless in exceptional circumstances obviously). Great timing by your boss .

rozzyraspberry · 09/11/2007 08:57

Yes - maybe not so good for you if they are big but definitely good for them!! They seem to be doing really well!

I really want to take as long as possible off after baby comes so don't really want to finish any earlier. As you say it's just not good timing - no winding down period for me! Mind you at least I get to sit down at work - spend the whole time at home running around after the other two or sitting on the floor playing with lego/puzzles (it's getting harder to get back!!)

leesmum · 09/11/2007 09:00

Hungrymama, i tried getting on all fours last night and having a wriggle around! (Dp thought christmas had come early) and i could feel him moving around quite a bit (baby not DpLoL. Don't know how much good it will do but i'll keep trying.

Egg its great to hear that your twins are getting nice and big, could you see as much on this scan or isn't there as much room now?

Rozzy, poor you having all that extra work put upon you, maybe you could finish earlier?

widgetsmummy · 09/11/2007 10:08

Egg - glad your twins are doing so well.

Got DH to measure bump last night and am 45"!!! DH thinks this is highly amusing but I feel the need to eat more fruit and less cake! On top of that had my first "you sure your dates are right" comment yesterday... needless to say was a man!

Oh well! Maybe Widget is having a growth spurt

Egg · 09/11/2007 11:13

Leesmum I saw them fairly well, esp Nemo, saw his little face nicely but Dory was hiding too low down to see properly. Forgot to even ask for pics, and the ones I have from past scans are crap. By the time I have the next scan I think they will be too big to get decent pics .

LOL at you on all fours getting DP all excited!

manamana · 09/11/2007 11:15

Great news about nemo and dory Egg.
Ginger, yes I am booked in to go to those classes late Dec but am wondering whether to go or not now that I'm having a CS - have you been to the other class yet (is it 2 with physio) as that sounded like it might be general stuff. Have also got some antenatal classes run by local midwives to attend at some point - again, not sure what use they'll be to me but as I've only just moved over here I'm hoping it'll be an opportunity to meet some fellow mums.

Egg · 09/11/2007 11:19

I reckon the only real good thing about ante natal classes is the social side. Mine were not worth attending for the knowledge we gained (or didn't) but then our teacher was a space cadet who liked to talk about herself, her new toyboy (she was in her 50s) and her recent weight loss...

rozzyraspberry · 09/11/2007 18:15

All this talk about bump size got me wondering so I measured myself this morning. 39" at 27 weeks. Comments range from people thinking I have a big bump (my mum said the other day I was bigger than I was at the end last time - I'm definitely not I think it was just the way I was slumped on the chair) to a few people I hadn't seen for a while this week saying I was tiny.

Really curious to find out how heavy this one'll be - DS1 was a dainty 6lb 4 whilst ds2 was a chubbier 9lbs 3 (I put that down to the quantities of lucozade I guzzled whilst pregnant!). My midwife never gave me any indication of baby size with last 2 but I've already started asking them this time - they say it's too early just now though but I'll keep asking!!

MERLYPUSS · 10/11/2007 10:41

My bump is 43'' at 26 weeks. I had a nice compact shape, all in front, but am filling out at the sides too now.

gingermumi · 10/11/2007 11:47

Mana, classes I have been to are run by a physio, first one was 'do your pelvic floor exerecises etc' and second was about relaxation in labour and what to expect at each stage. The second one really went on too long and everyone was fidgeting by the end. The other one we will go to is a day workshop (again more useful for dh than me)and this includes tour of ward etc. This is run by midwives, it depends which doctors surgery you come under as to whether you go to the hosp or a local clinic for this one. We are going to hosp on 15th dec to do this. In terms of a social function, i didn't feel there was much of a sense a mum-bonding, it was very much 'in, told info and out again'. I think NCT is probably a better bet for getting to know other mums.

alkar · 10/11/2007 12:22

Glad the scan went well Egg shame you didn't get any pics.

I saw the midwife yesterday and she said he was head down and showed me where his bum was, really cute!! Keep feeling his little feet sticking out now when he moves around.

Got a 3d scan booked for noext weekend, was unsure for ages but decided I would ave one for a birthday present. Can't wait to see him again!!!

beansprout · 10/11/2007 12:36

Hi everyone, glad to hear you are all ok (ish!).

Bump is 44" at 28weeks but baby is currently transverse. Move baby move!!

alkar · 10/11/2007 12:42

Oh and bump is measuring 40'' at 28 weeks!

SallyInYorkshire · 10/11/2007 16:05

How is everyone measuring their bump? - around the widest part?

I reckon my bump is massive (due no doubt to excessive pie consumption, as the fundal height is perfectly normal!) but am not sure I am measuring it in the same way as everyone else....
