Awww gingermumi, you let it out and have a good moan, that's what we're here for! I have a technique when I've been feeling like I'm going to be horrible to someone - like last night I had a scandalous trip on the bus home - over an hour stuck in trafic and was stood up the whole time and people kept squashing bump - by the time I got off I felt like I was going to explode! I had a 10 min walk home and used that time to say the worst expletives I could out loud whilst trunding along and ended up laughing at myself and not taking it out on DP and doggies when I got in. I find the 'f' word and particularly the 'c' word work well. Because it is out of character for me to swear it just makes me feel good!
Restlegs can be a real pain - I suffered before I was pregnant, but havn't during so far. I sometimes try sleeping curled in a tight ball like on my knees with my bum in the air and that can help. Andy anyway, you're allowed to be unreasonable. xx

Tallulah1978 · 06/11/2007 12:54

Ooopsie, corned beef and beetroot sarni all gone. Followed by cornish pastie and brown sauce. Now munching on chocolate covered flapjack. Yummy. Will finish with banana though

widgetsmummy · 06/11/2007 12:57

had to give myself a time out at work last week after nearly crying at some stupid man on about his neighbours driveway ruining his life and was I going to reduce his council tax....

abandoned my post and found quiet corner to curl up in for 15mins!

93pjb · 06/11/2007 12:58

I've got the baby whisperer book and it seems quite good. This is my first so I've got no idea what it is really like and thought I'd better read up on it so I got this and Gina Ford.

After a couple of days dealing with the shock of how often feeding every three hours is and how little sleep that means you get I've found the baby whisperer quite reassuring. (I know I should have known what I was getting myself into but it is different when it is happening for real...)

Baby Whisperer is fairly similar to GF in some ways - lots of structure and routine but seems more user friendly and much more detailed with strategies for what to do when things don't go to plan.

Still slightly terrified that I'll actually be responsible for looking after LO when it arrives...

gingermumi · 06/11/2007 13:30

thanks ladies

jooseyfruit · 06/11/2007 14:07

hello ladies. hope everyone o.k.

Haven't been on m.n for weeks, have been moved at work to a quieter unit, (am psychiatric nurse) because i got chased by a large acutely unwell psychotic gentleman, which was fun!!!

New unit doesn't have internet, bummer.

Sounds like everyones doing o.k considering!!

I've just had my 28 week mw check, baby is measuring 30+5!!! eeeep!, I also have a physio referral as i have sciatica. i am truly an old lady now!!
take care everyone

lljkk · 06/11/2007 18:58

If you're truly open-minded about baby care, can I suggest something by William Sears or Chris Green to read, too? Truth is most of us are happiest picking and choosing ideas from lots of different parenting philosophies.

How big around is your bump at the fattest? Mine is 39"...

I have a weird pregnancy symptom. Injured my left foot about 20 years ago and it has rarely bothered me in recent years... but recently it's been flaring up quite badly a ligament thing? I never had treatment so I don't know what the actual injury is. It's quite painful and leaves me hobbling at the end of the day, and I awoke in agony the other night could only get back to sleep by elevating it.

Also -- Don't know if it's because I'm older (40) or because this is my 4th, but am so much more tired this time around than in any previous pregnancy....

Egg · 06/11/2007 19:53

I think corned beef is ok as such, just that you are not advised to eat "processed" stuff much, but I eat processed crap every day, and have also eaten corned beef. Mmmmmmmmm. It is cooked, so not dangerous like parma ham or something that is raw. Don't quote me though!

Ginger sorry you have been feeling so cack. I also seem to have these moments every week or two, always when I am very very tired and not sleeping well. Everything gets on top of me and I cry... then I feel so much better once i get some sleep and wonder what all the fuss was about, until the next time.

With DS I had the GF book to start with (lent by my sis) and I did follow it a bit, in that it gave me an idea of how often approx DS needed to eat, and also how much sleep as I had no clue. I know they say let your baby lead the way, but he would have slept all day and been up all night otherwise. Always have followed her bath and bed routine as it just seems to work well. Got the Baby Whisperer book when DS was a bit older, to try some of her sleep techniques. I noticed her routine had milk BEFORE bath in evening, which I couldn't understand as even my mum, who is not a routine lady, said milk is always the last thing of the day. I couldn't imagine sending DS to bed without milk last thing, even now he has tons before bed...

I was given two copies of the GF twins book, but don't imagine I will stick to any of it! Will see what happens!

Egg · 06/11/2007 19:54

Oh, and my bump is 38 inches round the fattest bit!

leesmum · 06/11/2007 20:55

Tallula1978 i also love Corned Dog but it has to be sliced and not out of a tin especially nice with red onions..yum.. can't believe no-one let you have a seat on the way home bas*@^ds!!

Ginger a good cry allways makes me feel better, if there's ever a time when you're allowed to feel peed off it's when you're pregnant

I haven't dare measure around my waist, but it does look huge now especially now he's lying sideways!!

morningglory · 07/11/2007 07:05

Hello all! I've also suddenly become extremely unwieldly and am finding it uncomfortable to run up and down the stairs which makes DS's bedtime a real PITA. Before he finally gets to sleep, I need to run upstairs about 4 times (fix blankets, get water, needs to wee, needs to tell me something...). I'm frightened to know what he'll do when the baby is born. I know it's an attention thing, and I don't want to push him away, but it's really uncomfortable for me right now!

lljkk: it does sound like a ligament thing, which is made worse by fluid retention (making the ligaments stretch even more). Elevating the leg above heart level decreses the amount of fluid retntion in the area, decreasing the stretch, making it feel better. Does it get worse as the day progresses?

For all GF interested people, I found her book badly written and confusing, although her principles are great. I made a colour coded excel spreadsheet of all of her schedules last time just so I could visualize what exactly she was saying. I still have it if anybody wants a copy.

Bessie123 · 07/11/2007 10:04

MorningGlory - that is scarily organised.

I would like a copy though, please

gingermumi · 07/11/2007 11:34

RUN upstairs.....spreadsheet.....! Eek, how can you be that fit/ organised!!!

Still feeling crap, had another bad night . When i last measured bump it was 48"

widgetsmummy · 07/11/2007 12:07

morningglory - please can I have a copy of the spreadsheet (DH loves spreadsheets!)

Hello,
Will post so this comes back up on my list! I'm feeling good at 27+3, bit of backache and stuff but otherwise no problems. Bump is growing nicely (it's either really huge or absolutely tiny depending on who's commenting ) I just measured and it was about 39" round. That's 100cm - eek!

Have ordered my birthpool, and I've got another antenatal appointment next week. Having said I'd bought everything I need, of course I've now bought some more newborn clothes (only had 0-3 months), a moses basket (reduced) which the cats like, and another pouch sling (reduced) which I'm not sure is going to be big enough, typical! Still musing on bigger purchases, but we've got other things to spend money on at the moment like a new woodburning stove - that's a crucial part of my birthplan, to snuggle up in front of with the new baby!

widgetsmummy · 07/11/2007 13:42

ooh - woodburning stove sounds luvley! our essential purchase yet to come is going to be a micorwave... not quite as snuggly!

Gill79 · 07/11/2007 14:17

I remember TTP out of our friends who had compiled a hour by hour schedule (24h) for the two of them and their new baby - each of them had their own column, colour-coded for activity (sleep, work, feed). Am going to try really hard not to look at any baby book and just wing it. There's bound to be too much information to think about without having a meltdown a la pram issue.

Anyway thought I would entertain you with Gill's Train Adventure or Why Pregnant Ladies Should Not Be Allowed Out On Their Own. Was up in Scotland visiting friends over the weekend and started back on Monday. Had a tiny bit of bleeding the night before and that morning which was not enough to panic me but a bit worrying. Got on the train in Edinburgh and soon started to feel really sick. Was a bit alarming but then also was getting flashing lights in front on my eyes, went deaf in one ear, tingling all over and just a horrible surreal swimmy feeling. Tried for a while to just breathe through it but was just getting worse... ended up having to ask someone to get help and the guard put out a call for a doctor.... Was met by an ambulance at Berwick, by which point of course feeling much better and just a bit shaky, but fair enough they didn't want to take any chances. Thought the ambulance guys would just check me over and put me back on another train but they set off for the nearest maternity unit which was an hour away, somwhere between Newcastle and Berwick..... So by 5pm I was sitting in a wheelchair abandoned and ignored in casualty feeling a very very long way from home (London), with my boyfriend in Spain and no-one that I know within a two hour drive. By 6pm I was sitting abandoned in an empty room in the maternity unit, suffice to say was beginning to feel a little emotional and sorry for myself. Luckily they were able to find a bed for me and give me some dinner, which improved spirits somewhat, also gave me a proper check-up. Was wondering what the industrial-sized torch in the room was for.... now I know. Had an infection which might have caused the bleeding and the nasty turn no-one really sure about, they thought panic attack but I would put down to a combination of maybe a virus, not eating properly, excitement, stress about bleeding, etc etc. Was just really scary cause I've never had anything like that before, never fainted or anything. Anyway had a night in the maternity ward although not the main one with the babies was still like a total reality check - this is what is going to happen very soon... The lady in the bed opposite gave birth to two 7lb babies in the night (not in the same room thank god) and she was much brighter and chirpier than me in the morning! Managed to finish the journey yesterday and made the mistake of coming into work today, although I feel fine there's loads due today and I have been running round stressed all day v bad I know I am trying to be calm (hence my lunchtime MN break) Plus trying to get life insurance, car registration, parking permit and arrange help with moving furniture into the new house sorted in the absence of dear dear dear P who just couldn't have picked a worse week to go on holiday. And my friend's just emailed to say she's visiting the weekend we are moving house and she's on crutches. FKFKFKFKFK in the biggest letters possible.

Just realised this is ridiculously long, never mind, feel much better now

tyaca · 07/11/2007 15:18

ahhhh! if you dont mind me asking, what kind of infection?

manamana · 07/11/2007 15:39

Ohmygoodness Gill - what a scarey adventure. Sounds like you coped really well considering! Glad they gave you a bed for the night and didn't send you back out into middle of nowhere to fend for yourself. Sounds like you've got loads on your plate at the moment, hope dp is back soon to give you some tlc. I'd tell friend (in nicest way) that it may be a bit much to have her around as well when you're moving, you need able-bodied people!
Gingermumi, I can't believe no-one gave you a seat either! Evil. Hope you get some more sleep tonight. Lack of sleep is my biggest issue as well at moment, SPD is making it really painful to move in bed and while I've been off work I've been sleeping lots in the day but today ds is home and has decided that this week is best to kill his lunchtime nap - brilliant! We have been watching a LOT of cbeebies and ib the builder! He's now installed at the table with cake and milk to buy some time!
GF was my saviour and I would heartily recommend if you take it as recommended structure rather than making yourself stick to it rigidly. My ds did sleep all day and was up all night for the first 2 months until I discovered her. I was tearing my hair out with health visitors recommendation of 'experimenting' with daytime naps when i happened upon GF in a bookshop and saw timetables at the back!!!! I thought I had died and gone to heaven - and it worked. Quite traumatised at the moment cos book is in a box somewhere and unlikely to be unpacked soon so may just have to buy another one. Would also echo lljk and say Dr Sears' baby book is brilliant - lots of stuff on attachment parenting that I didn't go for for very sensible, gentle advice on lots of practical stuff including illness and development. Sorry, super long post... will go now. take care all.

Gill79 · 07/11/2007 15:53

tyaca - you'll wish you hadn't asked.

the sort of infection they needed a torch to look at.

Might well just be thrush but need to wait for results. Symptoms similar but treatment would be antibiotics.

tyaca · 07/11/2007 17:48

sorry gill - being nosy

gingermumi · 07/11/2007 21:18

OMG gill, sounds really awful, hope all ok nw - you should rest not work though!

Slacker- where did you get the reduced sling? (if you don't mind me asking!). Ta

leesmum · 08/11/2007 09:30

Gill glad to hear you're better now after your adventure!! maybe you should have made the most of it and took a couple of days off work

Egg what time is your scan? hope it goes ok, is it a check on their weights and where they are lying?

I had a horrid experience last night, baby has been lying across and mw said when he tries to get back into head down postion it might knock me sick....well it did... i had been feeling uncomfortable all day and when i got in bed last night i had huge lump on one side, anyway i don't think he succeded in getting down but i could hardly breathe and wanted to be sick, he kept me awake till gone 1am, it wasn't a nice feeling at all but now i hope he hurries up and tries again before he gets too big
