widgetsmummy · 31/10/2007 15:16

excitedm2b - that's brave! when is it airlines stop us flying? can't be much later. is it your first?

samsmam · 31/10/2007 15:25

Hi all,

With this talk of buggies again what do people think of this
Buggypod
Has anyone ever used one or know anyone that has got one? Not sure what I think really. It is a cheap alternative as I have a nice travel system and DD hates being in her buggy now anyway.

I love those cradle things all of them look so nice. I want one .

excitedm2b · 31/10/2007 15:48

Widgetsmummy - You can fly with BA till 36 weeks (unless its twins/complications) with a doctors letter. More difficult actually was insurance as most only covers you till 28 weeks but found one that did (thank you mumsnet!) BA have bizarrely been having lots of adverts on the radio recently about how all their flight staff are trained in childbirth which I think was supposed to make me feel better but has actually made me more concerned that its a real possibility!
I did put my foot down and am flying Club - will send back my champagne for DH who will be squidged in at the back!! Thank god for air miles
This is my 1st baby. Don't think we would attempt it if we had a toddler to cope with too!

My sister has offered us her moses basket but I'm so tempted to get a cradle as they look so cute (and the potential of more sleep is definitely appealing!) I'm not sure how well they work though and whether its just a waste of money. Maybe I should see how baby sleeps first on a flat bed before splashing out...

widgetsmummy · 31/10/2007 15:55

excitedm2b - you'll have a lovely time and I so understand why you're flying Club class!

samsmam - not used one but looked at the link and they sound great... might bear in mind the compatability when choosing our first buggy

Bessie123 · 31/10/2007 15:56

excitedm2b - what travel insurance is it? I'm going to the carribean in a few weeks (hooray - can't wait) and will need to get some.

excitedm2b · 31/10/2007 16:19

Bessie - it was IHI (International Heath Insurance) through here
They were really helpful and their website has an online chat option so you can check exactly what they will cover if you want to with a real person!

Bessie123 · 31/10/2007 16:27

Great, thanks

Gill79 · 31/10/2007 17:14

aarrgghhhh trying to see the funny side of this. Had first antenatal appt at the local health centre last night. Was looking forward to a cosier friendlier experience than the hospital where previous check-ups have been.

So was collected by the midwife, no hello, no introduction, took my blood pressure, measured the bump, no comment, listened to the heart beat ("baby heart beat") took some blood. During the silence as she wrote out my (v brief) notes I asked about arranging antenatal classes. "Come, come" led me out of the room, deposited me at reception asking them to help me and walked off without another word. I asked the receptionist if my appointment was over. It seemed it was. So I had to ask the receptionist if she thought I should go to the smear test the GPs had invited me to.... What a joke.

AIBU? or is that just completely crp?

PS work not banned MN hooray

leesmum · 31/10/2007 18:35

Hi Milki and welcome

A really good book for siblings is "theres a house inside my mummy" dont know who the author is but a friend has passed it onto me and i've been reading it to ds a lot. He keeps saying "when will baby james be ready to play?"

Egg if your twins are born on the 16th that will be great as its mine and twin sis's birthday..

Actually i have a feeling i will be early again although not 5 weeks like with ds!! maybe just a nice week/10 days early would suit me fine.

Enjoy the rest of halloween everyone

Egg · 31/10/2007 18:55

Ooh ooh I will aim for 16th then, as it is clearly a good date for twins! Perfect as I will be coming up for 38 weeks so they will be properly cooked.

Gill, without sounding in any way prejudice (I hope), was your midwife foreign? From the few words she said it sounds like she spoke very very little English! I am trying to see the good side and hope she was not unfriendly, just unable to speak to you! Saying that, a smile is the same in any language, so no excuse really. Strange indeed, as most midwives are very chatty.

DS has been very excited with all the trick or treaters. At our old house in London, where we lived for 7 years, we had one lot of trick or treaters over the 7 different Halloweens. Tonight we have had six lots so far, most of who seem to be in groups of 3. I will run out of chocs (if I hadn't eaten the first lot I would still have tons left ).

gingermumi · 31/10/2007 20:39

welcome and hi to milki.

On early arrivals - I would pack things you might need in hospital rather than LO- having had one prem (dd1)I found it hard not having my own things with me. I did ask my mum to get me some nighties the day after I had dd1 and (sorry mum) they were hideous! Was feeling crappy and not having my own things just made it worse. Just a thought.

Am hoping our LO will arrive early Jan too- don't think i can last 'til the end of jan - the fibroid is getting more and more uncomfortable.

Am quite envious of those off on your travels but I don't think i could be that brave!

Have a lovely halloween

princessllama · 31/10/2007 20:49

agggh!have eaten too many sweets.
how tired is everyone else feeling? this week and last i'm struggling a bit, everytime i pick up lo feels a struggle.
egg, which cot did you get from john lewis? keep thinking should get cheapest cot available/ikea/ebay and then can't bring myself to, really silly, but i just feel i'm short changing baby no 2 because it's coming along so soon after no 1. the john lewis cheapest seemed really wobbly when i went and had a look at it. my dad's going to give us one for joint birthday and xmas for me and dh and probably dd too. anyone else got any recommendations-can't get a crib as well as too much expense when we won't have another baby, but they do look really tempting, especially as they are meant to help sleep.
samsmam i think i've seen people with those buggy pods folded, i kept thinking it was a weird pushchair i hadn't seen before but this explains it. looks really clever.
anyone else getting a bit upset about the discussions on the abortion limit? at 23 weeks my baby seems really lively and having worked in NICU have seen 24 weekers in the cots.

tyaca · 31/10/2007 21:33

princessllama - i am exhausted, most tired i've been yet. keep leaving work early and struggling to survive commute home

ooohh, i would love to shop, but am being v v good. have started a wishlist on my pc and have to content myself with looking at it an dreaming!

for those of you working, when will you be starting maternity leave? after friday, i only have six weeks left of my contract, so that's a natural break. half looking forward to it sooo much, half worried about being bored. never not worked!

Egg · 01/11/2007 09:59

Sherida of course that's ok! In fact it is great, or otherwise we forget who is who .

Princess, we got the Rachel cotbed here for DS from John Lewis and are planning to get the same one again so we have two matching. It is £140 so mid price, but the mattress bumps it up a lot as we got one that was nearly the same as the cot , I think it was £110. Will get the same again though.

It has been great, no probs although DH does use a few expletives when changing the height. It still looks like new and is not falling apart at all, despite DS using it as a bouncy castle, and also he loves to lie across it and kick as hard as he can against the bars to alert me to the fact he is awake...

We put DS in the cot from Day 1, but did put a cot divider in so he was only really in half of it for the first few months. Decided not to have a moses basket / crib as didn't want to have to go through the possible hassle of getting him used to a cot after he got used to a moses basket. Will do same for twins.

Can't remember if I said, but I stopped work 5.5 weeks before DS was born, and didn't find myself bored AT ALL, but i am the kind of person who can sit around the house doing nothing and enjoy it. I did like having the time to myself, resting lots, meeting my NCT friends for lunches / coffee etc, but I was not planning to go back to work so didn't worry about wasting the time off before he was born.

Sorry, long post (again) .

widgetsmummy · 01/11/2007 10:01

Morning all! Another month done!

Does anyone else find themselves apologising that they are not due sooner? I think its because I feel quite big but Feb still sounds like a long way away. I work with the general public and am getting asked more and more (which must at least mean I look more than chubby). I guess I still haven't got this bump proud down... I thought I would feel more liberated!

Gonna be my motto of the day:
Pregnant and proud!!!

Egg · 01/11/2007 10:07

Oooh I am so proud. I love it when people ask me. But then because I tend to have my coat on when I am in public, and if I keep it zipped up people can't really tell, I guess I get asked a lot less. Yesterday I saw another pregnant lady at the swings, and unzipped my coat especially so she might notice, but she left shortly afterwards. Maybe she thought I was going to flash at her .

widgetsmummy · 01/11/2007 10:39

lol Egg - my coat only just does up now, need to invest in a new one to get us through warmly!

Egg · 01/11/2007 11:19

Aha but this coat I bought when I was in the earlyish stages of pg with DS, and I got a medium when I am normally a small, so a bit of extra room. It is just a bodywarmer though, and I don't think it will still do up by the end of the pg anyway. Have been looking at various options, swing coats / long cardis etc. Not seen anything that grabs me that is not ridiculously expensive. My old work coat, ie nice tailored type long black thing, never did up by the end last time and I can only do one button at the mo now. It is good though as accentuates baby bump. Am worried about just looking FAT.

miniandme · 01/11/2007 12:21

Well theres no mistaking that im pg unfortunately lol!! The best thing though is everyone thinking i only have like weeks maybe to go and asking and me saying oh they arent due till february!!!! The facial expression is a picture,i think well that'll teach you to be nosey
As for jackets well................... nothing fits so have resigned myself to a winter with a wet bump as it sticks out of every jacket i possess.
Have put a recent picture on my profile to show just what i mean with size

OP posts:
Egg · 01/11/2007 13:11

Yep, you are right, there is no other way of saying it, the bump is huge , but it's lovely. I do like pregnant bumps, I think they look great. At least there are two in there, I have heard many people complain of being asked if they are having twins when they only have one in there.

And I think your other DS, who was missing on pics before, even features on the family pic! Yay!

Only one week and one hour til my scan...

pobletsmum · 01/11/2007 13:37

Hope scan goes well egg.

Miniandme - what can I say? Wow!

I was asked just this morning 'are there two in there?'. No!

Did anyone ever buy the JojomamanBebe fleece coat? I'm still thinking about it but still wondering whether it will be big enough.

Egg · 01/11/2007 14:48

Oh that reminds me I have £20 vouchers for JJ MM BB. Just looked at website it is the hooded longline fleece jacket? It looks really nice and is only £40. Which means only £20 for me with vouchers! Woohooooo. I might go for it, as would like something sooner so I get to wear it a bit more.

rozzyraspberry · 01/11/2007 15:29

I got the jojomamanbebe fleece jacket but sent it back again. It was really long (which I don't really suit as I'm not that tall) and there wasn't that much room in it to be honest.

Egg · 01/11/2007 16:57

I was about to order it but changed my mind as had a feeling it might make me look shorter and fatter than I am. Would prefer to see it in the flesh. Used to live 5 mins from one of the shops but now miles away. Blooming M have a nice long cardi type thing, but not warm enough for mid winter .

Right, enough neglect for DS, time to do him some supper.
