SallyInYorkshire · 25/10/2007 17:15

Hi everyone, hope you are all doing well!

I am now so confused over all this buggy talk that I'm considering not getting one at all until LO is born... is that really stupid? I just want to be sure that LO seems comfortable in it before I shell out 300 quid or whatever.

Also I have been getting a bit freaked out over this lamb scare over the past couple of days... have posted more about this on a separate thread in "Pregnancy" as do not want to hijack this thread with panicmongering!

Slacker · 26/10/2007 09:17

Hi Sally, not stupid at all to wait till the baby's actually here before you spend £££ on a pram/buggy! You might want to get a sling or carrier of some sort in case you want to take the baby out when it's tiny (I was out shopping for pink things when DD was 3 days old!). And you'll probably want to get a car seat before the baby's born, so that might not work as a travel system with whatever you eventually buy (but those are overrated anyway IMHO).

I'd never even heard of the lamb scare so don't get too freaked out about it...this report sounds quite reassuring.

ExpectingKat · 26/10/2007 10:47

Hi all has been a while since I posted, have tried to read to keep up with everyone but stil feel lost half the time lol thats bein a newbie I hope!
Keepin my fingers crossed for you minime that everythings stays good for you.
Welcome tallulah, I hope the movements keep up, its such a wonderful feelin and so reasurein.
I'm really strugglin with my pelvis at the mo, sometimes not so bad but others I just don't know where to put myself, God knows what I shall be like in weeks to come with being only 24wks now. I had my scan on wednesday. Both beans growing well and still in transverse position top to toe (prayin they will have a good shuffle about) been over 10 wks and they're still the same With twin b they said could still see the cyst on brain but I think its reduced in size and only one side of kidneys was inflammed, but she said as I am havin more scans that could change either way and at about 32wks they will decide whether they shall have to scan when baby born.
I scared pants off DH sayin do you realize in 12wks the beans could be born bless he went a bit green, one minute seems ages away others seems forever lol I haven;t even bought a thing yet and really must get myself organized, just been tryin to get xmas sorted and DD2 bday just incase not upto much by end november, also hard to believe DD is nearly 10 months, hopefully he'll get his 1st b'day before twins arrive.
Wow sorry to have put such a long message I blame the fact I only talk to children most days lol

Jo9977 · 26/10/2007 11:51

Thanks for all the advice everyone.

Happy birthdays!!!

Hope all the aches and pains are easing for people. There's always something...Has anyone else had a small amount of brownish discharge (not a huge amount, not red) recently and is this OK? Wondering if I'm being over anxious or not as baby kicking loads and no other problems - just don't know what's 'normal' and what isn't!

Bessie123 · 26/10/2007 12:23

Expectingkat - buy yourself a plug-in electric heat cushion to put on achey bones. It has really, really helped my psd.

Egg · 27/10/2007 19:29

Everyone's gone quiet again...

Nothing much going on here. Took DS for a long overdue haircut today and he didn't cry, or even whimper. He normally has a screaming fit so we were very pleased. He looks even more handsome now .

Have not gained any weight in three weeks. Whilst I am glad not to have piled it on, should I be worried? I am still at about 11-12lbs gained since before pg. I eat so much, and baaaaaad stuff (a lot of quality street today, amongst other things , that was meant for trick or treaters on Weds). Babies moving a lot, but worried they are not growing properly. People keep telling me they would not realise I was even pregnant when I have my coat on, although I do have a very obvious bump if not well covered.

Still no halloween name for me. Can't think of anything witty .

Thinking now of Jane Twin Two pram, as I can get it through my front door, it takes car seats, and both seats are suitable from birth even without using car seats. Attach a link here. Any thoughts? Just so unsure of not being able to get through front door with side by side. Figure I can get one of these second hand and then if the twins hate being one in front of the other as they get older I can change it.

Egg · 27/10/2007 19:34

Forgot to say, Saskia, you mentioned a few weeks back that you were seeing the nursery advisors at John Lewis. I am doing that too, I have my appt next Saturday. Have you been yet? Any good? Although we have a lot of stuff from DS, we still need a lot more, and it makes sense to make a list so that everyone (esp my MIL) does not buy us horrid polyester blankets but can buy stuff from the list instead.

Also, have copied and pasted the lovely date order list that bovril did for us a while back, so that anyone can add their update to that one (don't worry widget, it was very confusing when MN went all upside down on us).

CountTo10 · 27/10/2007 21:51

Time seems to be picking up a bit quicker now and it feels like we're getting somewhere now!! Only 9 weeks left at work - yipee!! I was off on fri cause I've been feeling really rough. I'm just so tired at the moment so trying to up my iron rich foods in case that's got anything to do with it. Had a check up with my gp on wed to find out that my midwife has been away and they haven't had a replacement so my notes haven't come back since the scan!! My doctor was really good though. I've got glucose in my urine again so it's been sent off. She asked if I have a sweet tooth but if anything I'm a massive savoury fan at the mo. Hopefully it's nothing to worry about. So next checkup is 28 weeks when I have to have blood tests and an anti-d injection - the pin cushion stage is upon me!!! Anyone else having anti-d? Apart from that all is well here, baby kicking like anything which is funny when my bump moves with it!!!
Hope everyone is having a good weekend and not too sore or tired!!

leesmum · 27/10/2007 21:51

hello ladies is everyone enjoying their weekends? We had ds 3rd birthday party today and it was great but i'm shattered. I dont know how those of you with twins are getting on but i can't be arsed doing anything most of the time, i also feel really out of breath too....oh well i might as well have another chocolate and see if i feel better

Jo9977 maybe you have been overdoing things recently? It's easily done, but you could ring your community midwife anyway just to be on the safe side. Let us know how you get on.

I'm just updating my details now that my little man is three, and i'll try and update pictures on my profile. x

Hi! Thought I'd stop by. I'm due my first DD (according to scan) on 6th Feb. Love mumsnet, makes me feel less as though I'm going through strange things as everyone else is going through them too!

miniandme · 28/10/2007 10:59

Countto10 ive to get antid too at 28 weeks ,great eh !!!! Had in my last pg's too and it was well stingy, but had an injection at 14 wks after the car bump and they do it in the upper arm now which isnt quite as bad!
Those of you needing more iron or more energy try spatone, its an iron rich water which comes in little sachets and you add them to juice, one sachet a day or 2 if your really low in iron and it boosts the iron levels really really quickly and also doesnt lead to the unpleasant side effects that iron tablets do!
Have updated the list and added my new details too.

If you're buying Spatone look for it in Boots, I got it on 3 for 2 - bargain

Egg · 28/10/2007 15:26

Hello welcome to Sherida. If you can work out how add your details to the list a few posts below.

Mini you have another scan TOMORROW . I still have 11 days to wait...

I have a very very bad sweet tooth, I can't stop eating chocolate, despite feeling sick from it. It is ridiculous. The more I eat the more i want. I think I may have to give it up entirely as I can't limit myself at all.

No anti-d injections here. Please remind me are they the ones you have if you are rhesus negative or am I confusing them with something else?

I used to take that Spatone stuff years ago when I was out on the town too much and eating badly. It tastes FOUL, least it used to, would definitely want it in juice not just water. It made me feel like i was drinking rust [bleurgh emoticon].

Hi everyone - hope you're all well!

DS2 is 3 today!! It's been a really quick 3 years - really scary! We've had a lovely day and about to have his birthday tea.

Pretty shattered at the mo as DS2 had a really bad sickness and diahhorea bug this week and then DS1 was up really early this morning being sick and having diahhorea. Seems to have picked up during the day though (I'm sure playing with DS2's new toys has helped). Hopefully I'll get a good nights sleep tonight! Looking forward to a nice bath once the boys are in bed.

SIL had little boy this week - definitely made me feel really broody - so that's 4 and soon to be 5 boys (although we haven't told anyone that lo is a boy!). Will be mad when they're all at PIL house!

Amy78 · 28/10/2007 16:55

Count to 10 = I havew to get the Anti D injections too as I am A negative! Ugh!! Have a few weeks to wait though as just 24 weeks at the moment.

As for midwives - I'm still waiting to meet mine. Every time I've had an appontment it's been locums as the midwife has been on holiday . Anyway should hopefully meet her at my 28 week appointment. I hope so anyway as none of the locums have been able to confirm that I've been booked into ante natal classes which I requested at 8 weeks. Is it just be or does it seem a bit late in the day now? Oh well, enough moaning I guess. Dreading the thought of going back to work tomorrow after the October holidays - fingers crossed the kids will behave. Only 8 weeks til the next set of school holidays (there has to be a perk to being a teacher!!)

Egg · 29/10/2007 09:10

Morning All .

Amy, not too late to start ante natal classes, but might be too late to find a space if the blasted locums have not booked anything. My DS was born 20 Feb 2006 and I started ante natal classes with him at beginning of December. Had most of them in January though. I didn't get booked in until September and I was told I was very lucky to get a space, but this was NCT rather than NHS (didn't even realise there were NHS ones as nobody mentioned it to me).

Have been worried about not growing or putting on weight, but measured my belly again and it is 38 inches now, whereas it was 36 I think last time I measured. I think that was a month ago though. Can't wait for 8 Nov to find out how Nemo and Dory are getting on.

Mini, let us know how you get on today. Hope everything is good .

violeta · 29/10/2007 09:53

Hi everyone,
Just a quick query - I think I've pulled a stomach muscle at the top of my bump overnight somehow. It hurts every time I cough! Anyone else had any experience of this? Any thoughts on whether I should get it checked out or will it just get better by itself?

Slacker · 29/10/2007 10:56

Ouch Violeta! It is easier to pull things when you're pregnant, with all your ligaments softening up...I wouldn't bother getting it checked out because what could be done about it? Just take it easy if you can and it will get better on its own.

Jo9977 · 29/10/2007 11:08

Hi everyone!

Am dead impressed by NHS!!!!!!!! Thought that deserved a mention!

Phoned community midwife about brown discharge and emphasised that it wasn't a lot and baby moving fine etc. She was really good, said it was probably nothing but should come in and get checked out anyway. So, I got to find out where the labour ward was and was tested for urine, blood pressure, size of bump, smear type swab, baby heartbeat and blood test for itchiness - all very efficient and reassuring!

All is fine and feel a little more acquainted with what to expect (having never been in hospital for anything major before) so well done NHS!

So, violeta, I'd call the community midwife just for a chat and reassurance...hope you get same level of service!

Egg · 29/10/2007 11:12

Ah that's good Jo, and I bet you feel better now being so reassured that nothing is wrong. Violeta, they probably can't do anything and you just need to rest and take it easy if at all possible, but it might be worth mentioning to your midwife / GP just in case.

violeta · 29/10/2007 12:14

Hi, thanks for reassurance. Well, I did ring my doctor's surgery (couldn't get hold of the midwives), and a doctor called me back! So, I am also very impressed with the NHS as well! It was just my worry talking really; the doctor said that I just need to take it easy for the next couple of days and that it definitely sounds muscular rather than anything else.

I've turned into such a worrier since I got pregnant!

So glad also, Jo, that everything is okay and that you feel reassured.

gingermumi · 29/10/2007 12:31

Morning all! Have spent most of weekend sorting through baby stuff SIL droppped off on friday (they are getting a lodger so needed some space). It's weird and kinda nice having all these lovely baby bits around. Have had to give in and put them in the spare room (the cats were making beds in things!). Seems very real now but still, in some ways, can't beleive it - seems a mad thing to say, i know!

Countto10 - am also having anti-d, from last time i remember it stings! But had one eralier on (bumped my bump) and it didn't seem so bad - perhaps it depends who gives it. Have my bloods etc next monday.

Jo- glad all ok - have to say, my experiences of NHS have been very good too.

Sherida - Welcome to our thread - lots of support here and no-one thinks any question is mad!

Mini - hope scan ok, let us know how it went.

Violeta - I also pulled a muscle (turning over in bed), very painful indeed. I went to docs and she basically said dont lift/hoover etc for about a week (could be tricky i know) and take paractamol or co-codamol- apparently it is safe, she prescribed some for me, which I only took at night. 'Take it easy' is the message really!
