Hi widgetsmummy! I think lemon is a lovely colour and really sunny and clean. An alternative could be to go for green. Now I don't mean like a lime green, more of New England green (it looks really dark in the tin) matched with off whites - that's what I'm going for. It looks lovely with all types of wooden depending what furniture you're going for, whether dark or light and it goes really well with white - which you'll also have a lot of, not knowing what flavour widget is yet! Presumably, like me you'll lots of neutral acessories in beige's and yellows so I know what you mean about overkill on cream colors. Hence I've arrived at my 1950's green colour.

We don't know what flavour we're having and hope not to find out either - we have extra scans at 28 and 34 wks (I was underweight with a bmi of 16.5) so I'm hoping we don't find out by accident. I really want that moment of 'it's a boy/girl!'. We are under quite a lot of pressure from friends nagging to know - but that's for their own selfish reasons (what to buy etc.) so I will not buckle!

gingermumi · 22/10/2007 17:11

Hell Tallulah, you should have joined us before! with a first baby you often don't feel much til now so providing you feel 10 movements each day there's not much to worry about (that's what i was told by mw anyway!), also if baby facing your spine then you wont feel much either! If you are ever concerned you should speak to your mw or gp - mine ae great but i know that's not the case for everyone - just be persistent if you get fobbed off and you're still worried.

Sounds like your family have their head in the sand, glad you have wonderful dp to look atfer you. Dh's parents are are a bit like that but my family are fab. Dh had a big op earlier this year and his parents only came to visit once! It is hard but we have learnt to ignore it, it hurts beacuse they expect us to do things for them and if we don't then we get accused of letting them down. It must be especially hard for you carrying their grandchild though. Perhaps they will be different when he/she arrives. There's always mumsnet! and don't forget to try a build a network of friends -that tends to happen anyway when you have a baby!

Take care!

gingermumi · 22/10/2007 17:14

Widgetsmumi - we were thinking of lemon anyway even though we know it's a boy! Nice and bright and cheerful and lots of accesories out there are made to go with it. Can't start decorating yet as dh still on crutches but will do soon.

Gill79 · 22/10/2007 18:20

Hi Talullah - it's not clear from your post if you've still not felt the baby move since the weekend and if you're still worried.... Hopefully not! If you are then I am 25 weeks and although somedays I am constantly being battered from inside there are days (and sometimes lots of days together) where I barely feel anything (have got anterior p as well). There seems to be just no logic so please don't worry too much. And there are days that I would say I struggle to feel 10 (really depends what you're doing - if you spend all day lying down with your hands on your bump waiting for them you're going to feel a lot more than if you're at work). And if you're running round all day you might well feel none... The family sound rubbish but chances are they'll come round once they've me the little bundle of joy - if you want them to that is.

Crikey Miniandme that all sounds terrible. I'm really glad they're holding on in there - did the docs have any idea why it happened? Scary stuff. Keep your feet up as much as you can....

Gill79 · 22/10/2007 18:24

BTW Tallulah - forgot to say - when the baby's facing backwards it likes to stomp up and down on my cervix and headbutt my intestines. It took me a while to figure out what the sensations were as they are completely different to a movement at the front -dull thumps and feels like you might have to make a run for the bathroom iykwim Maybe you're having feelings like that but not recognised it?

Tallulah1978 · 22/10/2007 19:32

Hi Gill79 - Well, I had a few little prods from BabyBradley last night as I was falling asleep, not so much today as I've been busy at work. Trying not to worry as people keep reassuring me that there is not set pattern until about 28 weeks. Thanks for your reassurance. Thinking about getting doppler so I can reassure myself as and when (every half an hour then!)

Yes, my family are rubbish and I'm too cross with my mum to really see her at the moment. I'm used to being disappointed and let down by them - but my DP was actually in tears the other dear because of all this - his parents would give anthing to be here for their grandchld - my parents have that opportunity and are being so foolish to pass up on it. To see him so upset makes me so angry - it's not just me they're letting down it's DP and LO and that's what's upsetting me. I'll never be pregnant for the first time again and they've already missed out on first 5 months. I'm their only child for goodness sake! Altho I suppose as independent as Ive learned to be, it's the one time I could really do with my mum!But I fear she's already blown it.....I know it sounds harsh, but I'm hurt!

Beyond all my silly worries and ridiculous family, I am loving being pregnant and am torn between wanting to have my baby in my arms and wishing my pregnancy away to enjoying every day of it! I feel so special - I have my DP to thank for that.

tyaca · 22/10/2007 19:42

tallulah - i am with you on the impatience thing.... if i could, i would snap my heels three times and it;d be february

screamsprout · 22/10/2007 21:17

Sorry, haven't had time to read through but just wanted to say hi. Nightmare here recently involving dsd and an attempt to move house but have finally, after 3 exhausting weeks, decided to stay put for now, much to my relief.

Ds has decided "the baby in mummy's tummy is called Gordon".

Anyway, hope you are all well, I've missed you lot!!

loobyt · 23/10/2007 08:27

Does anyone please have any top tips for cold relief?

leesmum · 23/10/2007 11:54

Welcome Tallulah1978

Sounds like you are coping well with your pregnancy, even though i'm sure you would like more support off your family, at least you are lucky to have a loving dp to look after you. Try not to let it bother you too much and get on with enjoying the rest of your pregnancy. xx

Loobyt try boiling some lemonade and having it at bedtime, it will make you sweat like a pig but it works for me!

Miniandme how are you doing now?

Hope everyone else is ok, i was at doctors yesterday and it seems i have thrush i've been lucky never to have had it before and i hope it does'nt come back, it was bloody awful but the cream and pessary seem to have worked...oh the joys of pregnancy...

take care everyone xx

93pjb · 23/10/2007 12:05

Hi Tallulah1978, I thought about getting a doppler to check the baby but when I mentioned it to my sister she advised against it. She reckoned it can be hard to use it properly so you might find you're not getting a signal because you're not doing it right so rather than reassuring yourself you could end up getting more worried.

I decided not to in the end but then I have had plenty of movement since then to reassure me. I think it is pretty much impossible not to worry as it seems almost inconceivable that everything could be okay but then for most people it is...

Have just realised from reading one of the posts that I am probably having braxton hicks - I did think it was the baby stretching! So much in the way of new experiences to take in!

rozzyraspberry · 23/10/2007 13:24

Hi All - hope you're all well!

Leesmum - I had thrush right through my 2nd pregnancy - never went properly until ds2 was born unfortunately!!

Tallulah - At my midwife appointment last week she really struggled to get a heartbeat as lo was in an awkward position. So I would probably agree that a doppler might worry you more as it might be difficult to pick up the heartbeat sometimes. With movement it really does vary at the moment. When I'm at work and sitting down all day it feels like he's kicking me all the time! When I'm at home with the boys and running around I don't feel him so much. Also earlier in my pregnancy I thought he wasn't moving much but was then awake during the night and he was bouncing around so obviously just sleeping during the day and playing at night! I would try not to worry too much.

I'm very excited today as my SIL went into hospital to be induced last night so waiting on news! It would be nice if its a girl as she has an 18month old ds and we have 2 ds's and another on the way. But if it's a boy we'll have a five a side football team!

Jo9977 · 23/10/2007 14:49

Miniandme - really hope you're taking it easy...sounds like you've had a dreadful and worrying time...thinking of you!

Welcome to Tallulah! It's hard when family let you down but at least you have a wonderful DP.

Ginger - really hope things settle down with your DD...that's a toughie as a mother I imagine.

Just come back from long weekend in south Italy (7 degrees, raining and windy - never known before) - wish we'd stayed at home! Also had a real grumpy half hour where I just didn't know what to do with myself and had a row with a bloke over a trolley at the airport...bit like PMT x 10!

Have also been referred to clinical psychologist re AD. Apparently prozac's the best AD to be on during pregnancy, but then isn't for breast feeding although the consultant couldn't give me any cases of anything that could go wrong . Has anyone else had any experience of prozac and breastfeeding?

gingermumi · 23/10/2007 17:37

Thanks Jo, am doing my best to ignore food issues at mo. Sorry can't help re prozac - there must be a help groupd somewhere that can can advise you - you can't be the first to have this dilema. Have you tried the net?

Screamsprout (love the name change!!) life sounds horrid, hopefully it will settle down now! Have you given up on moving or just put it on hold?

Have scan tomorrow to check fibroid and low placenta, might go buggy shopping too!

KikiH · 23/10/2007 19:51

Miniandme - thank goodness all is ok, same thing happened to my sister and she managed to hang on to 38 weeks in the end and had healthy baby girl!!

Had scan Friday before last and all well but LO in such a strange postion that it wasn't possible to see anything really. Good views of all internal organs and sonographer even exclaimed that spine was lovely which made us happy.

Having real problems sleeping too - exhausted all the time but end up staring at ceiling for most of night so am zombie entire time at work.

Have decided to get bugaboo having initially been v against them. Having tried every buggy in the world it was the only one that had extendable handlebars for giant DH and was light enough for chicken arms me to lift! Wonderful Dad is going to chip in so won't be too destructive on wallet and we are getting almost everything else free as hand me downs from family. Hooray!

Mossy · 24/10/2007 18:38

Ladies, sorry to interrupt... if any of you are in Merseyside and thinking about breastfeeding, please click here

princessllama · 24/10/2007 18:46

hi haven't posted for ages. mini i hope you're doing ok with lots of lounging around.
does anyone else get strong pains in the side of the bump when carrying older child/heavy object? can't work out whether it's the baby giving big kick or i'm straining a muscle.

gingermumi · 24/10/2007 19:19

princes - sounds like a muscle to me - be careful, i pulled a muscle in the side of my bump and it was agony, try to take it easy. Mine got better quite quickly but i did exactly what i was told (too knackered not to) and didn't lift anything or hoover etc for about 10 days. Not so easy when you have little ones.

Had scan today, all looking good, placenta has moved up, fibroid hasn't grown. Consultant said i will just get more and more uncomfortatble but baby fine. I knew this from last appointmnet so no surprises really. Asked them to confirm sex and said again it's a boy (glad 'cos have been buying blue things! ).

Hope everyone ok

Slacker · 25/10/2007 08:00

Jo, I don't have personal experience of ADs but I know I've read about it on other groups; Kellymom has some good information. It does seem that Prozac isn't the best AD for breastfeeding but that doesn't necessarily mean that the two can't go together....and from what I gather Prozac may be considered the best AD in pregnancy simply because it's been the most studied, this link may be useful re different ADs in pregnancy. HTH!

Hope everyone's well, I'm not thinking about the pregnancy at all this week because it's half term

samsmam · 25/10/2007 09:24

Hi all,

Any tips for a really bad lower back? Carrying LO is a really struggle. As well as the sciatica I'm done in!

Jo, I wonder if you phoned the breastfeeding specialist midwife for your area she would help? My breastfeeding midwife was so lovely.

I think I am going to go for this double buggy
Mamas and Papas
Mainly because it is one of the cheaper ones and I don't think DD is going to want to be a buggy girl- only 1 and she hates it. She wants to walk everywhere but never in the direction I want to go!

Work have started on me now- calling meetings and stuff, they are stressing me out even more while I am off sick! Arghhhhh.

Egg · 25/10/2007 10:43

Morning all. Don't think I have been here for a few days. Am also suffering with what feels like strained muscles when lifting DS or other heavy things, but pain goes away again when not lifting. Also lower back pain when bathing DS, or bending down doing anything for more than a moment.

Samsmam, are work allowed to call you if you are signed off sick?? The bastards. Funny you should link to that pushchair, I met a mum at the park last week who has three children aged 3.5, 2 and 3 weeks, and she had a M&P Aria (£30 more expensive but looks v similar). She was given it second hand but loved it and said it was fabulous. I have never considered M&P after some appalling customer service from them back before DS was born but it looks great for an umbrella style buggy.

Ginger glad fibroid has not grown and they have confirmed your little boy. I am hoping for confirmation on 8 Nov when I go back as I have only bought one girl outfit so far in case they were wrong. Hope your DD is ok too and things don't get any worse.

Welcome to Tallulah. I bought a baby listening thing when I was 21 weeks and have not yet managed to pick up a heartbeat (not tried for a couple of weeks mind you, might give it a go in a minute). I can feel the babies kicking at it but no heartbeats. The one downside of twins is that even if you feel kicking, I can rarely be 100% sure it is TWO babies kicking, so I still worry...

Also realised I have, very likely, less than three months to get myself sorted. We still need a new car, as well as extra cot, new buggy, bouncy chairs, teeny clothes, etc etc. Plus got to get CHRISTMAS PRESENTS for whole family. Bought DS's today, am really chuffed as he loves the Smoby formula 1 racing car ride on that they have at nursery, and I thought of getting him one but found they were £50 online, and as they are suitable from 12 months, and he will be 22 months at Christmas, I thought it might be a bit of a waste. Just popped into my local Blooming Marvellous and they had one left in there, reduced to £19.99. WOOHOO. He will be so pleased. Am going to be strong and get him nothing else except stocking fillers as he is spoilt and has way too much anyway, and we have no room left for two babies!

gingermumi · 25/10/2007 12:05

Morning everyone.

Thanks egg, have spoken to gp who is going to try to get her to see dietician, she has however been a bit better and even had some takeaway pizza last night - not sure how much but she did eat, perhaps she has turned the corner a little.

Try to take care when lifting, as i said to princes, strained muscles can be v painful, it's so hard when you have LOs not to just do it and then realsie when it's too late.

Samsmam- don't let them get to you! Would they phone if you had flu? No, so why should they pester now, they're just being insensitive and dismissive. Just be firm, don't get pushed into anything, you and your unborn are the priority. Take care.

Tallulah1978 · 25/10/2007 14:06

Hi everyone, thanks for the warm welcome! Pleased to report that all this week I have felt lots of kicking and had a massive growth spurt. Tuesday morning my bump was the size it has been for the past couple of weeks really - after lunch my belly was itching like mad and I stood up and my colleague looked at me and just said 'crikey!' and pointed at my belly. 'It wasn't that big this morning!' she said. I realised she was probably right. After 3 more people commented I was 'massive' I went to the loo and sure enough looking at my side view profile there had been a massive increase since I had left for work that morning. DP says 'You look like a properly pregnant lady, you look beautiful' big love for DP - he just cuddles me, feeds me and puts me to bed each night as I'm too tired for anything else!
Just had very stressful morning at work, still got lots to do, but now i've had a massive lunch and want to go to sleep. zzzzzz

leesmum · 25/10/2007 15:35

Hi everyone, sorry to hear some of you are having bad aches and pains, it really drains you when you have lo's to look after as well.

I have been interested in all the buggy conversations, but we are'nt getting a new one as ds M&P freestyler is still looking great after 3 yrs. When we bought it we got the Primo Viagio car seat too that fits into stroller. Ds loved it so we are getting it steam cleaned and new wheels put on at our local M&P store, and then we just have to get a boogie board to fit onto the back. (is that spelt right?)

Anyway we are all off cos ds is 3 today he got loads off stuff but his fave is his remote control car and his iron and ironing board, he loves it!!

Cant remember who else's ds was 3 today, but i hope your day has been as good as ours.
xx

Egg · 25/10/2007 15:41
