mutha2beagain · 06/10/2007 18:11

Ljikk and 3madboys - thanks a lot for the info - well one thing seems for sure then, I'm having another boy at the very least!!!

Sonographer did not mention anything about chromosomal abnormalities so I will not work myself into a lather about it just yet...

Thanks for the heads up about a possible different interpretation by NHS - just will have to see what they say. It can't be that terrible if "the condition" is rectifiable with antibiotics, so for the meantime I'm going to continue in happy pregnancy cruise control!!!

Have a nice weekend everyone xxx

pobletsmum · 06/10/2007 20:02

Hello everyone,

Internet seems to be working at the moment so will post quickly before I lose it again. I went for the re-scan on tuesday and everything was fine with the stomach. Phew! It seemed a long 24hrs but all is well so I'm very happy. It seems that we're having a baby girl. I had thought all along (and said to everyone) that it was a girl - just a gut instinct I suppose, so it was strange for it to be confirmed. I would have been happy with a boy or a girl, but it's good to know. The sonographer seemed fairly sure, but said it's still only 95% accurate, so I won't be buying pink/frills until baby is born. Maybe just a few bits... (!)

I will read back through everyone's threads if my internet connection keeps working. I just wanted to report back asap.

tyaca · 07/10/2007 05:55

hey all. am v jealous of all your scans. ten days to go....

my bump has finally appeared, and have been trying to find good pregnant looks ... not getting v far, but pleased with the scarf round bump one. feel like i'm out as pregnant at last

re feeling it move, its now more than flutterings which is great. distinctive little feelings now, that i'm almost 80% certain aren't wind

jooseyfruit · 07/10/2007 08:35

pobletsmum - i bet thats a relief!!

Amy78 · 07/10/2007 09:44

Pobletsmum - congratulations on your good news.

As for movements - I'm starting to feel some really strong ones now. Am also getting a lurching feeling at times but this happened when I was having my scan on Thursday and it's just bump doing somersaults!!

Roll on Friday - next scan and the end of term (have been soooo looking forward to two weeks off!) Hopefully bump will be a bit more co-operative at the next scan and stay still long enough for the scanographer to get a good look at the heart. HAs anyone else been told it's a big baby?

samsmam · 07/10/2007 11:49

Pobletsmum- good news.

I don't know how I am meant to host my DD 1st birthday today and be pregnant!
LO is having a good birthday though. Not remotely interested in opening any presents!

Only 10 days until my scan- now do I find out the flavour? Decisions decisions........

Hope everyone has a relaxing sunday x

KikiH · 07/10/2007 12:12

Haven't posted for ages as been distracted by best friend and sister both being induced in the last week, but having healthy babies - thank goodness.

Hungrymama, I have been having exactly the same pains, read in one of my many books that it is normal and is uterus expanding/ribs spreading which made me feel a bit better.

Have my scan on Thursday and have pretty much decided NOT to find out flavour - I'm hoping that thinking about if it will be boy or girl will distract me from worrying about giving birth nearer to the time - hmmmm.

I am planning on leaving work at end of Jan, but am luckily only temping so can change my mind v easily (gave up old job as 3 hr commute each day got way too tiring being pg).

JJ2ndTime · 07/10/2007 15:29

YEAH!!!! Seems there were hardly any threads for due in FEB . . . was about to piggy back on the due MARCH one as my date is Feb 28th!

All the same glad to have found you all, I was diasgnosed with SPD last month and my particular interest is in getting some good ole calorie burning acivities on my menu! I had my last exercise jaunt at the beinning of September with a 15mile cycle trip (split in two journeys) after which the onset of agony prevailed!

Having been an avid gym member prior (cancelled now) and keen cyclist, no less than 30miles per week up to August this year, I am now totally frustrated with the lack of options available for doing some burning exercising!

Swimming as attractive as it seems presents a challenge for getting in and out of the pool. Apart from really cutting back to eating bare minimums is there any other suggestions out there??

I keep cals down quite strictly so at 20wks weight gain has remained beneath a stone for now. Thanks to SLACKER for pointing me to this thread . . . .life at last! JJx

JJ2ndTime · 07/10/2007 15:30

Where are my manners! Congrats on your good news KikiH . . . ..

Slacker · 07/10/2007 15:43

Hi JJ2T - aerobic exercise and SPD may be tricky, some people find that even swimming is too painful, but I would think it's worth trying if you can get in and out of the pool, can you sit on the edge without hurting anything, and slide in? And get out using your arms to get onto the side backwards? Can imagine walking up the steps would not help!

I'm hoping not to get SPD this time but have had a few twinges, so I'm planning to do some swimming, if that hurts I'll give up! If you really can't find any exercise to do that doesn't exacerbate the SPD, you won't lose all your fitness by having to take a few months off...

JJ2ndTime · 07/10/2007 15:51

Thanks Slacker! I guess end Feb is only 5 months away and as am quite disciplined with eating regimes any further weight gain should not be a chore to take off . . . .

And what about you my dear? I see you have 3 D's already so life must be pretty hectic for ya . . I'm in Northampton UK, what about u?

Have a super Sunday! JJx

Slacker · 07/10/2007 16:33

Life not too hectic here at the moment - I've spent the whole day in bed after overdoing it yesterday! Luckily my DH is wonderful at doing all the cooking and housework when I don't feel like it, and the children are all entertaining themselves....I'm near Bristol btw.

I have my first checkup with my independent midwife tomorrow - will be good not to have to argue about policies and protocols, which is my normal experience of midwife appointments! Feeling well generally at 23 weeks, although I've been getting annoying Braxton Hicks contractions, and some pain which may be SPD but I think it's too high up, don't know what else it would be though. Have had it for a couple of days so I don't think it can be anything serious.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend

MitfordSisters · 07/10/2007 18:53

tyaca, my bump's not the donk - i'm the mitford fan in our house - dh prefers evelyn waugh. though baby is gestating in bermondsey and decca mitford had the donk in rotherhithe right nearby - you're in south london too - where?

MitfordSisters · 07/10/2007 19:02

JJ2ndtime, hav you stopped cycling then? I suppose high impact activities are out of the question, but there's loads you can do.

I've found pregnancy great for fitness in these second trimester weeks - feel well and normal again - plus a goal, which is to be as fit as possible for the birth. Swimming is gorgeous - can almost feel the baby swimming along too. I'm also walking, cycling, doing yoga, not to mention bedroom athletics.

MitfordSisters · 07/10/2007 19:08

JJ, only jus noticed you have SPD - didn't mean to sound insensitive in previous post. Gowri Motha's Gentle Birth Method has some suggestions if you're into alternative medicine.

tyaca · 07/10/2007 21:36

hi mitford, streatham... nowt much of historical interest round here, decca et al or otherwise ;-)

Lucyand2 · 08/10/2007 10:05

Congrats on all the scans and hello to all the new people!
DD and I are full of colds at the moment, DD is barely sleeping and as DP has work I get to stay up with her. This has gone on for 2 nights now and I am exhausted
A pharmacist asked when I was due yesterday and when I said beginning of feb she just stared at my bump saying 'Ooooh, Feb!'
I can only assume I look quite big (and knackered!)

Bessie123 · 08/10/2007 11:59

JJ2 - you're pregnant, of course you're going to put weight on. Just concentrate on having a healthy baby; it's only another 4 -6 months of no exercise etc and then you can get back into your routine. Weight gain shouldn't be your top priority right now, so give yourself a break.

gingermumi · 08/10/2007 12:01

Congrats on scan Pobletsmum.

JJ - I have put on over two stone so don't worry too much about weight gain!

Have been to see mw today and all my niggles seem to be settling down (Except the sickness, told to carry on taking things easy but am going mad not doing much. Am tempted to try swimming and dd2 keen to come so will find out what local pool has to offer - fancy a class rather than just swimming. Perhaps that would suit you JJ?

ladlemonke · 08/10/2007 12:49

Hello all, and welcome to all you newcomers!

Its gettin right busy in here - i just counted over 60 names on the list!!

I'm quite relieved to be feeling definite flurries of movement now (19+4), tbh i was getting quite envious of all you ladies reporting movements! My belly is also twitching and taking on some v weird lopsided shapes, in fact have just spent about two hours belly gazing. So far one twin seems to be more of a kicker than the other, but its too early to know which is which.

I wanted to ask anyone with experience of private 4D scans, what kind of things you should check out before commiting to spending all that money......i mean, how do you guage the quality of service, expertise etc? What kind of accreditation should you look for? There are two places near me that offer 4D, and i would welcome advice on how to choose between them.

DP is keen to get the 4D dvd, but i just want to know the flavours - hospital wont tell as its not a medical necessity ( again envious of all you who get the option to find out!)

Have spoken to both places on phone, and tbh, one did seem customer focussed as opposed to the other who seemed to see me as part of their sales target/objective i.e. wanted me to book there and then.

Anyone have any words of wisdom on choosing/selecting scan place on factors other than telephone manner and pg instinct??? Thanks in advance for any tips....

Jo9977 · 08/10/2007 13:37

Welcome to newcomers and congrats on scan pobletsmum!

Have just had tiring/trying weekend with parents where my mum seemed to be wanting to be waited on hand and foot. I can't work out what's wrong with her as she's got plenty of energy to do the things she wants...it's almost as if she's opted out of anything she doesn't want to do. That's gonna have to change when little crumb arrives!

MERLYPUSS · 08/10/2007 18:50

Hi peeps. Just checking in. I too have started to feel proper kicks - but only the 'loony leftie' twinnie at the mo. Having said that they squirm around so much if any of my scans are anything to go by they could be changing places all the time for all I know.
When I went to Kings for a 16 week scan the scan man put the scan on 3/4d and it grossed me out. (I think he did it to show off as they are all research fellows there and probably like to play with the equipment, I got the feeling he thought he was doing me a favour).
When I asked about 3/4D scans the NHS said they couldn't approve them as they are not for a medical finding and that the staff were not trained to deal with emotional baggage if the scan showed a problem. She said that was the 'medical' answer but it was up to us. If your nhs scan has shown all is well, I cant see why you dont get one done. It's just not for me.

morningglory · 08/10/2007 19:55

Hello all. Haven't posted in ages due to being swamped with DS, and nothing really seemed to be happening, and I've been feeling relatively "normal".

Still have only had one NHS appointment at 21 weeks, but assumed this was normal. Have my second one, and my scan this week. I'm going to strongly insist on being induced 2 weeks early due to me previous history. I was just going to let nature take its course, but I'm petrified to be in the situation of the baby literally falling out, and no assistance being around.

DS's labour (my first!) was 1hour, and I gave birth to his head in the cab. I really didn't have any "contractions", just lower back pain. If it is the same this time, I won't even realize I'm in labour until I'm crowning! Hopefully the will be sympathetic.

CountTo10 · 08/10/2007 21:37

Evening all. Welcome to all the newcomers, can;t believe how big we're getting - and not just around the waistline!!!

Congrats on all the scans coming in.

Lots of movement here and stronger now. Moves a lot more than ds. He's just fab at the moment, looking forward to finishing work just so I can have some more one to one time with him before this one arrives. I'm finishing at xmas, I've got about 3 weeks leave and then my mat leave kicks in. I finished at 36 wks last time and it just wasn't enough - and I was over!!!

Anyone struggling with hormones at the moment? I'm finding I have days where all I want to do is cry. I just fell unable to cope and really down and then just sob uncontrollably. Then I feel ok!!! Dp thinks I'm mad!!! I think it's when I'm tired that it's worse but i wasnt this emotional last time especially at this time.

Bessie123 · 09/10/2007 09:11

Morning Glory - you lucky thing. I am desperately hoping for no more than a bit of lower back pain...
