i started feeling the baby flutter about ten days ago, and for the first time was pleased it's me not the DH who has to carry the baby

hungrymama-the pains sound like what i had first time round which is the ribs spreading so the intercostal ligaments and muscles have to stretch which causes the pain. some days i found it hard to think of anything else-think it was cos i had quite a small rib cage-those were the days, no probs this time!
beansprout my dh is off in blackpool too. sad geek is loving it i think, loves politics (said i wouldn't marry him if he went that direction don't know what happened, 1 year down the line from wedding day and 2nd baby on the way. sounds tough about the spare room situation-youre sounding impressively calm

Am feeling sick and have period type pains again today. Has anyone else regressed too?!

Hi Beansprout - yup, feel like I have regressed a bit too. Feeling slightly nauseous in the mornings and rubbish in the evenings again.........

Saw my obstetrician today and everything is fine. Have a growth scan next week (@ 23 wks) just to monitor progress, can't wait to see baby in 3D again. All the best to those with appts and scans this week.

Ok ladies, check this out.

One of my in-laws has suggested that we stay here for 2 nights over Christmas. Dh is one of 7 so there are millions of in-laws and none of our houses can fit in 20 people at a time, so SIL has suggested this instead. I'll be 35 weeks preg by then and have 3 yo ds in tow.

only reason its not going to be Decca-short-for-Jessica is 'cause my surname's Dear

I'm 21 weeks now and my bump has just appeared literally overnight - hadn't seen my boss since Friday and her response was 'bloody hell - where'd that come from?' You'd think seeing as she's a mum to 3 she'd have got the jist of this by now!!

Anyway, MS has been driving me up the wall today - also have a stonking cold (the joys of working with kids!!) Away to have a long soak in the bath and then bed (God knows I won't sleep tomorrow night - scan on Thursday!!)

Had my scan today. Took over 6 hours at Kings waiting for various things. Had to drive there too coz of train strike. Then twin 1 wouldn't show it's face so I had to go for a wander (and a twix ) to see if he would shift. The scan man asked if we wanted to know what flavours and I said no. He said we would be pleased with the outcome which makes me think I have one of each. Wish he'd not said anything now. Either that or 2 boys as he was Asian and my Oh is too and they like boys to carry the name on(without pigeon-holing people or being un pc). Didn't like to say they will be taking my name. The upshoot of it is that twins are fine, cardiaology scan good, and they were right wriggley little buggers so all looks good. Have low lying placenta for T1 so will need further scans but on the whole feeling good. And I dont have to go back there. WOOHOO !!

Welcome to new ones. Can't believe how many there are on this thread.

Merlypuss- Glad the scan went well, I work at King's and commute from Gravesend every day- well I did for the last ten years. Good you don't have to keep going back there especially with the price of the car park!

My sciatica is really playing up mainly at night. And in all that rain the other day I slipped on my mums ceramic floor with my wet trainers on. Have managed to twist my back further up.

Morning all!

Would appreciate you thoughts on maternity leave - work asking for MATB1 by end of the month. Got 2 options I think:

1. Leave work on Christmas Eve and have 6 weeks before due date - cons being I might be late (first baby) and might get bored at home

2. Trying to convince work to let me work part time for January as don't really want to carry on full time but it would give me something to do everyday

Anyone been through it? Is 6 weeks at home waiting and cleaning too much?

My HR reminded me that you accrue holiday all through maternity leave so I am planning on taking all my leftover leave from 2007 over Christmas/New Year and a couple of days extra in Jan if necessary to work part time without actually officially working part time iyswim! Also, my work are being quite flexible with me (must be that male environment thing, they are slightly terified at having a pregnant woman in their midst!) so are also letting me work at home every now and then when I need to which is fab - don't know if thats an option for you as well? Don't mind the work, its the getting to and from I'm worried about! HTH

Consultant appointment this afternoon, hopefully reassuring as been feeling sick as anything last 2 days (although much better today thank goodness - serve me right for geting through first 3 months with no ms!) and scan next week - can't wait!

I think stop work on Xmas eve, Widgetsmummy. I stopped at 35 weeks and it was just right. You will need to rest up, appreciate your last few precious weeks of childfree life, do last minute preparations, etc.

Beansprout - am feeling crap and have certainly regressed- have been throwing up loads and generally feeling low. went back to docs today as breathing getting a bit stressed - apparently the fibroid is pressing on my diaphragm so i can't inflate properly. It will get better as everything moves around but they have now med certed me for a month. Feel rather miserable about it really, yes, it's nice not being at work but i think i might go out of my mind as am being constantly told to rest and am not used to not doing anything. I can't remember how old you are but my doc insistant that being 'older' is playing a part in how my my body is coping (or not!). Also said sickness at this stage is most likely linked to pregnancy tiredness rather than hormones.

Widgetsmum - maternity leave - well, I WAS planning to work until Christmas as my LO due end of jan/beginning of feb, I worked up til 2 weeks before with dd2 and was fine and week before with dd1 (but she was very early so it doesn't really count). I would probably leave it a bit longer if all is well with you or try the PT option (that way you can save your matrenity leave for when the baby arrives). It's quite a personal thing really and depends on how you're feeling. I'm not sure i will last 'til christmas now!

Beansprout - looked at your link, was expecting a thoroughly unsuitable swanky hotel but wow! that has to be crazy - looks like it would be cold and miserable! Bah humbug! Hope you don't get pushed into it!

I agree with ljjkk widget - I'm stopping at Christmas and going to use January as a chance to visit friends I haven't seen for ages, 'do lunch', stock up the freezer and generally revel in the spare time!

Not sure how it will pan out in the end tho'!!!!

The only problem is if baby is way late and therefore you end up crawling the walls...but it's a risk I'm willing to take!

It is a personal thing though....

Hope all those niggles and pains and sickness go for everyone - we should be blooming, not blooming awful!
