Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Slacker · 25/09/2007 14:10

Hello all, I'm joining you in the unhealthy food thing, I just ate 2 slices of DS1's birthday cake Although I have gone off chocolate a bit. Not going to measure my waist, would be too depressing.

Coats - last winter a friend who was due in Feb wore a fake fur (it was nice, honest!) swing coat, looked great as it buttoned to around the top of the bump, but didn't gape under that. Have been looking for similar on ebay, in black wool or something, but haven't yet found the perfect one. Would like a Mamacoat from Japanese Weekend but (a) it's nearly $200 for a glorified anorak (b) don't know anyone who's going to the States anytime soon and (c) no one in this country seems to sell them. Will have to get something though, it's freezing already!

Bovril - I like Evan for a boy but DH rejected it on the grounds that it's 'too Welsh'

KikiH · 25/09/2007 14:12

Having the same problems with Welsh names (love Arwen for a girl) but DH is Aussie and hates them all so we haven't found a compromise yet.

gingermumi · 25/09/2007 14:34

I like Evan, that's really nice, will add that one to our 'list'.

Slacker could you get mamacoat over net? Or is that why it's so expensive?

gingermumi · 25/09/2007 14:36

Der, just had a look - can see that it's a website! Looks cool though but, as you say, rather pricey!

Jo9977 · 25/09/2007 14:58

Hi everyone!

it's so nice reading such a lot of messages!

Can anyone help me with names please? Both my and DH's Dad died in 2005 and had the same name and when I became pregnant we said we would give our baby the same middle name. That would have been fine for a girl - I like the name Briony, but def not so sure about Brian! Does anyone know of any boy name versions or Italian versions to soften it up a bit???

gingermumi · 25/09/2007 15:00

Don't know about boy versions but my midwife is called Brianne - another girl-friendly version!

Gill79 · 25/09/2007 15:00

Bovril I'm a size 8 with a 35" waist (36 after dinner). Admittedly I've got a few more weeks under my belt (ha ha NPI) at 21 weeks but it is still very alarming especially as it feels pretty tight already. What on earth is going to happen to me???? In the last few days loads of people have told me I am "actually quite big". Oh crikey. DP was a ten pounder .

Bessie123 · 25/09/2007 15:19

Just updating my details. We had the scan today and although we were 100% convinced it was a boy, we are having a little girl. She is sucking her thumb in the scan pictures - v cute.

We haven't got to names yet, dh still seems to only come up with awful joke ones! We're off on holiday in 2 and a bit weeks time and are planning to talk about it properly then - something fun to do on a 10 hour flight!

Jo9977 - someone I know is called Braydon if that helps?
KikiH, I got my pillow from the blooming marvellous website. Its definitely helped.

saskia71 · 25/09/2007 15:27

Hi to you as well leesmum.

Some school prospectuses arrived this morning. Schooling, (as a future parent), is another unknown world to me. I knew about the competitiveness for admission to some of the London schools, but I did not think it applied to where I live. One prep school advised me to register as soon as possible since they only had nine remaining places (in nursery) - for Sept 2111. Well I better arrange some viewing appointments pronto, or Baby will not be going to school.

Goodness, there is so much to get to grips with and I have not even begun to understand a "Bugaboo travel system".

Bessie123 · 25/09/2007 15:29

Saskia, we did schools and nursery viewings last week. We are going to book in this week, to make sure we don't miss out on places - it's crazy how soon they all go.

Isn't anyone happy about my little girl?????

gingermumi · 25/09/2007 15:36

Congrats Bessie! That's lovely - have two dds already and had hoped for another. Just as happy with boy though!

saskia71 · 25/09/2007 15:36

Bessie, I'm sorry I missed your post. I think it's lovely your scan went well and that you are having a girl. Is that your preference or did you not mind?

gingermumi · 25/09/2007 15:37

Oh, and i was a size 14 (ish) before and now I have a 44 inch waist, will look like a hippo before long

excitedm2b · 25/09/2007 15:37

Very pleased for you Bessie! And sounds like a very cute picture! Still got a couple of weeks to wait for my scan and not intending to find out the flavour but still really looking forward to it!

Hadn't even thought about schools yet, had no idea things got booked up so quickly! given that we plan to move in about a year or so it seems a bit irrelevant though. Hopefully wherever we land up will be a bit more flexible than your area Saskia!

Bessie123 · 25/09/2007 15:46

We were hoping for a boy, but are still v happy to be having a dd. I told my mum at lunch that the hospital couldn't tell whether the baby is a boy or a girl and she said she could see it is a girl from the shape of the head on the scan pictures - amazing.

Thanks for all your posts, and sorry for the blatant attention seeking .

KikiH · 25/09/2007 15:55

Congratulations Bessie!

We still have a few more weeks to second scan and we said we wouldn't find out the flavour but it is SOOO tempting.

Thanks for the tip excitedm2b will have a look on their website.

Schools/nurserys haven't even crossed my mind, but as I live in nappy valley Surrey maybe this is something I should look into - seems weird though when not even halfway through pregnancy

samsmam · 25/09/2007 15:59

Hi all,

Bessie another little girl will be great- all sorts of mischieve!!

I have been to GP today and been signed off for another three weeks. I haven't even been back back yet after birth of DD1. Apparently I have sciatica (sp?) too, very common in pregnancy supposidly.

I still haven't got my scan date. Perhaps I should call make sure I haven't been lost in the system!

The girls name Briony and Brianne are both beautiful, they are on my shortlist as well as Brianna. Sophie is still top for me. As for a boys version I just googled and it didn't give much except Briand- French version.

samsmam · 25/09/2007 16:02

I just re-read I meant another little girl on the Feb list, not for you Bessie I made it sound like you had a whole tribe. As we speak my little girl(one in 2 weeks) is playing with the disk drive on this computer-we won't tell daddy!! They like pushing buttons.

Bessie123 · 25/09/2007 16:06

Samsmam, I knew what you meant . Sorry to hear you're still not well - at least it gives you extra time at home with dd.

off to a meeting now, catch you all tomorrow. x

Jo9977 · 25/09/2007 16:31

Congrats on your girl Bessie and most of all that everything is OK!

Hang in there samsmam and look after yourself...we're all there for you.

Thanks for the suggestions on names...it would have been so much easier with a girl and Briony...will run them past DH tonight but don't hold out much hope - oh well.

Have just attempted to measure my waist with a broken ruler (the scientific way!) and got to 39 inches...still to catch up with DH!

rapunzelle · 25/09/2007 17:01

Thanks Leesmum - Arden is mine! It means passionate (from ardent I suppose) and she certainly has a passionate soul!

leesmum · 25/09/2007 17:27

Rapunzelle passionate eh? you wont be wanting that in 15 yrs time

Jo9977 if you really want to call your son brian then thats lovely. The only other male version is Bryn (is that welsh?)

Bessie123 i think its lovely that you are having a girl, we need more pink on here!

gingermumi · 25/09/2007 18:08

I have just swallowed an olive stone, do you think i should worry?

Slacker · 25/09/2007 18:19

Jo9977, Brian is sweet, I know a family with a Brian and an Eric! OK they're American but still fine names. Do you like Bryan any better?

Gingermumi, glad you like Evan too so my taste in names can't be too bad! I suppose the proper Welsh version would be Ifan or something? I might manage to squeeze it in as a middle name when DH isn't looking! And I guess I could order the Mamacoat direct but would get stung on import duty, and I can't bring myself to spend that much on an anorak! Actually I've just found somewhere that sells them in the UK - £149 I'm only considering it as I'll have the baby in a sling if I don't get a pram and I don't fancy juggling an umbrella and all the school bags!

ROFL that you have to decide on nursery places before the baby's even born Bessie and Saskia - I'm sooooo glad we moved out of London! Our children are in one of the 'best' schools around here and we didn't have any trouble getting them in applying just a few months in advance! What happens if you've picked the school and your child just isn't suited to it?? Good luck with deciding anyway.

Was going to get brave and measure my waist but can't find tape measure - what a shame
