Have found cutting down on my tea intake quite traumatic, had 3 cups yesterday but really wanted more like 7! I do have it very weak though so hopefully bump won't come out a caffine addict - lucky I hate coffee.

violeta · 24/09/2007 16:33

Cutting down on the tea was more difficult than stopping drinking alcohol definitely. I had to wean myself off it as a self-confessed caffeine addict! Am now on half a cup a tea a day and very proud of myself (though I'm eating a fair bit of chocolate - ho/hum!).

tinton · 24/09/2007 17:04

Hello, I am a bit late but please can I join? 34 (London, UCH),due 3 Feb, 1st one (eek), no idea if boy/girl

Gill79 · 24/09/2007 17:37

Hi Tinton I'm in London too and due with my 1st the day before you! In Homerton although heard good things about UCH.

lljkk · 24/09/2007 17:42

Ah, f*ck it on the diet front. I had the American "What to Expect when You're Expecting" book in 1st pregnancy and its Puritan diet advice totally did my head in . That's before I figured out that pregnancy leaves me struggling to eat anything like an ordinary diet. Food is fuel and sanity is eating what stays down and refuels.

So my pregnancy mainstays (vary from one time to the next) have included: sweets, fizzy drinks, a can of tuna every day for 5 weeks, brie cheese (usually pasteurised), several daily bags of S+V crips, peanut butter, lots of nuts, sips of alcohol in evening to quell my nerves, several cups of strong full-caffeine tea in the morning to cheer me up -- tea gives me the shakes outside of pregnancy but settles tum now. Usually eat copious amounts of chocolate when moose, too (more caffeine) but don't like it currently.

How many bad mummy marks (strikes) is that? At least 9 -- the whole baseball team out for an inning, isn't it?

alkar · 24/09/2007 18:05

Congratulations Lailasmum, one of each!

Regarding maternity clothes, have been in them since about week 8. I have got most from Next they do short persons trousers which have been great as nothing else would fit. Have also got some things from H+M and Red Herring at Debenhams (who also have a couple of smart winter coats).

Hello Tinton - we are due on the same day!

lljkk where do you get pasturised brie from??????

Egg · 24/09/2007 18:19

Hmm, one of my American pregnancy books says something ridiculous like you can have 4 cups of coffee, 2 cans of coke and 6 chocolate bars before having too much caffeine . Last time i had nothing except in the chocolate / chocolate milk (surely choc milk doesn't have much, it is mainly milk and sugar...), this time since about 12 weeks I have been having one cup of tea each morning. Both times have had the odd mouthful of fat coke when desperate!

Welcome Tinton. Add yourself to the list when you have a chance .

beansprout · 24/09/2007 19:06

Hi Tinton and all the other new people!
I am in London and have only heard good things about UCH.

I've actually found that e-bay is good for maternity clothes - all sorts of choice and in good nick as it hasn't been worn out! I really don't like shopping so that's quite handy too!

lljkk · 24/09/2007 19:49

PASteurised brie: Sainsbury's, a Somerset not quite real brie since it's not made in France, but you can't taste the difference, version, off top of my head. This was years ago

rapunzelle · 24/09/2007 19:51

Egg and Lljkk thank you so much for your wise words I agree 100% with the need to be in control of the decision making process and whilst it has been a hellish one to come to terms with, ultimately it has been my decision and the consutant is very keen to work with us to make it as positive and personal as possible.

I meet with him again next Wed and we will set the date then. It will be soooooo weird to know! At least I can book a decent haircut in the day before and look all glamorous in my 'mum and new baby' shots (yeah right!)

Thanks again - Mumsnet support strikes again!

R x

alkar · 24/09/2007 21:01

Thanks lljkk, I'm a veggie and am really missing brie and all the other lovely cheeses we aren't allowed.

beansprout · 24/09/2007 21:03

There is a very nice thread about positive elective c-sections - very tempting!!

pobletsmum · 24/09/2007 21:33

Good evening ladies,

I can't believe how many posts there have been in 24 hours - it's great! We'll be starting another thread in no time .

I'm enjoying reading everyone's name selections. So far, I like Emily May for a girl or Joseph for a boy. Still very much up in the air though.

As for 'bad' foods/drinks, I have a cup of tea every day, and usually a can of caffeine-free diet coke or Dr Pepper. Not as bad as it could be, I suppose.

Last time my maternity clothes came from Blooming Marvellos and Next. This time I'm struggling to find anything. I've started looking on ebay so we'll see... As for a coat, I'm considering buying the long fleecy one in the Jojo catalogue. It won't get much wear, but I will probaby wear it every day then sell it on ebay when I've finshed with it.

Looking forward to hearing everyone's news again tomorrow.

rapunzelle · 24/09/2007 21:52

Thanks beansprout am going to go & look for that thread

leesmum · 25/09/2007 08:48

Morning everyone

A big welcome to all new ladies, KikiH, Saskia71, nlsrhtr, excitedm2b and Tinton, Gosh there really can't have been much on the telly last May!!!
I hope i havent missed anyone out x

I am loving some of your baby names, who's daughter is called Arden? i think thats one of the most beautiful names i've heard in a long time.

I think we are sticking with James, not sure about middle names yet. I wanted Goerge Micheal after his daddy but Dp wont have any of it

As a rule my diet on this pregnancy hasn't been too bad but i am a firm believer in "a little bit of what you fancy does you good" I still have about 5 cups of tea a day, i am normally a coffee person so i have one strong cup first thing in the morning and then if i want any more its decaf.

But i think as long as you are sensible with all foods and drink its not worth worrying. How many times have you all heard about women who didn't know they were pregnant and have been eating and drinking all sorts and their babies are fine

I say hands up for CHOCOLATE and lots of it!!

Is anyone else suddenly having really big movements? im 22+1 today and all of a sudden i've gone from little kicks to full blown rolling around, some have even made me jump. (by the way when i said big movements i meant baby not poo euurg)

Thats all for now i'll have to get holiday clothes out this week, we go next tues, i am a bit worried about leaving mum but my other sisters will be here and i think i am really ready for this holiday, 2007 hasn't been so great what with dad dying and my mc at the begining of the year i'll be glad to see 2008 and meet my other little man.

Take care

How are you doing Samsmam, keep smiling

jooseyfruit · 25/09/2007 09:49

morning, i'm with you on the chocolate leesmum, in fact chocolate makes lo jump like crazy.
Yes having lots of stabby jumpy movements, some painful jabs to the cervix!

Although did have total meltdown at work yesterday cuz i hadn't felt any big movements for a while, i cried in the office and everything! Fine now though, plenty of jumps.

Hope everyone o.k!

KikiH · 25/09/2007 11:33

Morning all. Have only just started having teeny little kicks so looking forward to my first big kick so DH can feel it too.

Glad most of you are filling up on chocolate as well. I lived off plain salted crisps for the first 12 weeks and could have eaten a tin of tuna everyday too - anything salty really - they were about the only things that didn't make me want to hurl.

Now I could happily eat 2 packs of jaffa cakes a day, in fact if it's in front of me I want to eat it - except chicken which still makes me want to throw up.

bovrilsarnies · 25/09/2007 13:06

Hello everyone, thought I would catch up on the posts in my lunch break for a change. My..... everyone has been chatty - it's brilliant! I love reading what everyone is thinking!

We too have been trying to think of names - but also trying to decide if we will find out the flavour of the bump at my scan on the 4th. Not sure what to do. I would quite like to find out........ I think....... but I'm not sure.

On the names front, DP is Welsh - so he wants us to go for a Welsh name - but I have been looking and I haven't really found any I like that are not already in use by other family members e.g Rhiannon for a girl, Ieuan for a boy. Any ideas anyone?

On another note - for some reason yesterday I thought I would measure my waist - you know - just out of interest as my bump is quite obvious now................. OMG I am size 10 with a 35 Inch waist!!!

and I'm only 18+5!!! can't imagine how big I'll be at 40 weeks!

Egg · 25/09/2007 13:08

Oooh Bovril that reminds me that I used to measure my waist last time. Will have to have a look and compare with this time and with others. I think it reached 40 inches by the time I gave birth. This time it will probably be about 80 .

Not feeling too good. Belly really hurts like I have done too many sit ups (I have not done any for years...). It especially hurts when I pick up DS. Just feels all tight and strained. Going for a lie down now...

bovrilsarnies · 25/09/2007 13:15

Oh bugger - I think I will probably be 80 too by the end then! stretch mark city here we come!!

hope your belly feels better soon - a lie down sounds like just what you need.

rozzyraspberry · 25/09/2007 13:22

Kiki - I'm with you on the anything salty theme - crisps, chips, chinese food - really healthy!!

Luckily I don't drink tea or coffee and there's nothing really that we can't eat that I miss. Will probably miss wine and baileys at Christmas though.

Pobletsmum - I'm thinking about that fleece jacket too. Like everyone I don't want to spend too much money on things I won't be wearing for long but it's freezing already and it's only September. I'm currently wearing a jacket which I struggle to fasten over my ever expanding boobs and there's no hope of getting a button fastened over my bump!

Bovrilsarnies - I didn't find out with first 2 but did this time. One benefit I'm looking forward to of knowing this time round is getting a few blue things in the January sales!

gingermumi · 25/09/2007 13:28

As usual it has taken me ages to catch up, couldn't even find right thread to start off with!

My morning sickness has come back too (can't find msg that asked this now, sorry) - so bad that doc has signed me off for two weeks. Says it's cos i'm over doing it. Also have elephant ankles, sugar in wee (could that be all the chocolate i'm eating...nah...can't be) and raised blood pressure. I'm sure i would feel better if dh was back on his feet (excuse the pun). TBH could do with someone running round after me now so hope that he can ditch crutches soon - not very charitable i know but I AM PREGNANT and it makes you sooo bolshy!

Am suposed to be catching up on work emails (agreed to do this as there is lots going on at work - we have inspection next week, work in FE college - sadly i will miss it!) but haven't done anything yet. I've been on computer for about 2 and a half hours looking at anything except work stuff! Oops!

Maternity jeans- try belly ups! They do work, can't remember who suggested them, but i got some and they're very good. H & M have some good maternity wear and I have bought some stuff from ebay. Mothercare stuff is ok (i have a good pair of jeans from them) but you have to be selective and it is over priced. I saw the coat on the jojo catologue today - looks good but i wonder how big it would go - model dosn't seem to have much bump. Had to wear a coat yeaterday for first time and just left it undone - will do for now but not when it's colder- If anyone gets the jojo fleece let me know if it has much room for expansion.

BTW - anyone know where you can get tranquility tea ?saw it on another thread, sposed to help with insomnia.

Ta!

Sorry for long msg but never get much time to post these days, perhaps i will now i'm off for a bit

KikiH · 25/09/2007 13:35

Hi Bovril, I'm size 10 with 35 inch waist and 18+6!! Feel like I have swallowed a football.

I have some of those belly-ups on order but they are taking ages to come - I really need them now. Every time I bend over DH starts singing "I saw the whole of the moon" and laughing his head off. Had to point out that his trousers are always halfway down his bum and he doesn't have any excuse.

BTW does anyone know where you can get those pregnancy pillows, can't get comfortable at night and wake up feeling like I haven't even been to sleep. My sister said hers was brilliant but she lives in Greece and got it there.

beansprout · 25/09/2007 13:44

Egg - my belly is feeling tight too. Not nice and there is a long way to go yet.

I love Welsh names. I'm from London though so can't really justify them but Bethan is on our list. The more Welsh the better!

Re the coat issue - someone suggested buying a poncho to wear until my normal coat with a big scarf over the top. Not sure but it would be a much cheaper option...
