I thought I had some low back pain last night which was quite exciting but it didn't come to anything. I almost don't feel pregnant even! 40+5, and have my next appointment tomorrow. At this point I think I might give the sweep a go.

woollycat · 26/05/2020 09:21

@Lady7978 @helpasisterout how are you ladies doing with the waiting game? Is this a first pregnancy for you?

helpasisterout · 26/05/2020 10:13

@woollycat getting fed up now totally and utterly! Induction Saturday I think but thought of partner not being there and being alone is making me feel like I just want to hide in a hole 😣😣😣

woollycat · 26/05/2020 16:49

@helpasisterout yep, I hear you! Have you had a sweep at all? I have decided to give in to a sweep tomorrow.

facevalue · 26/05/2020 18:32

just checking in- how are you all hanging on? having a second baby is tough if u have a toddler too!

helpasisterout · 26/05/2020 18:41

@woollycat yep attempted one last week which wasn't possible and got one today which went ahead didn't find it too uncomfortable but pushed ahead due to another condition I have which has been aggravated to have induction brought forward and they have said tomorrow I will get a call to go in and have balloon induction put in but no idea what time that will be.

Have you had a sweep in the past?

woollycat · 26/05/2020 18:52

@helpasisterout I haven't, first one will be tomorrow at 40+6.
I'll keep fingers crossed for you - hopefully today's sweep will kick things off for you!

helpasisterout · 26/05/2020 19:22

@woollycat you'll be fine I thought it would be worse to be honest and midwife is very good at checking you are comfortable.

Thanks hopefully something happens tonight though doubtful!

Moongirl10 · 26/05/2020 22:19

@facevalue how is your recovery going?

facevalue · 27/05/2020 00:11

@Moongirl10 it's 2 weeks since the operation now. scar looking good and i'm not on any painkillers. off all injections. i would i’m recovered but i was told not to carry anything heavier than my baby. that's the tough part - as i can't do the things i used to do with my toddler ...

also sadly baby will not latch so i'm expressing all the time it's exhausting but i want my baby to have breast milk. baby blues kicked in and went.

Lady7978 · 27/05/2020 00:27

@woollycat I'm still here waiting. Due end of this week, getting a few twinges and aches here and there but nothing major.

I'm in two minds - wanting the baby to stay in for as long as reasonably possible as I'm nervous on life changing forever and then wanting the baby out now as I'm SO uncomfortable and irritable, worsened with the hot weather.

Good luck with your sweep later on.

@helpasisterout, how did your sweep go? Any change?

helpasisterout · 27/05/2020 05:27

@Lady7978 sweep was totally fine but no changes since so just waiting on induction call some time today. Wow I haven't felt so emotional in a long time a mix of a bit of excitement/relief/panic all rolled into one that by the end of week I could have a baby!

Naughtysausage · 27/05/2020 08:54

@helpasisterout good luck with your balloon today! I hope it gives you all the nudge you need.

I had an appt yesterday and they've booked me in for an induction next Tuesday. I don't think that's what I want but I can always change it. I hate having a deadline to work to. Too much pressure. Baby kept me up for ages last night with his own dance party. It's nice he's having fun, but sleep would have been good. Am starting to look very seriously at clary sage and raspberry leaf tea on amazon prime.

Hope you're faring better today @Lady7978 and @woollycat
And sorry to hear about the latch issuers @facevalue that does sound exhausting! Like the most tiring bits of both feeding options! Are you happy with your pump though?

woollycat · 27/05/2020 09:27

Good morning all! I had a tough night because of the hot weather and hay fever. I generally like warm weather but it's a bit much this year. I am genuinely looking forward to some cold and cloudy days 😬

@Naughtysausage I am the same, I don't want an induction date in the diary. I think I will decline it if I am offered one today and ask how we can move forward instead. I am 40+6 today, I think I will want to wait until 42w before thinking about induction.

@helpasisterout good luck today, will be thinking of you!

@Raindancer411 how are you getting on? I hope you are holding your baby already!

@Lady7978 hehe yes I can see that, I am also trying to enjoy the calm while it lasts 😊

Naughtysausage · 27/05/2020 11:25

@woollycat I felt like I got tricked into the induction booking. I thought she was just giving me a sensible date and phone number I could call if I wanted one. But then she just picked up the phone and booked me in and I was so surprised! I honestly thought we were going to go through options. But she was really assertive and because I was so surprised I wasn't! I was made to feel like there wasn't any alternative. There was no mention of monitoring instead. I was actually a bit cross with myself afterwards!

So definitely set out up front that you don't want to discuss one yet.

(Obv I want baby to be healthy and if we need one, we need one.)

helpasisterout · 27/05/2020 12:10

Phoned induction suite at 12 as instructed if I hadn't heard anything about a slot and still don't know a time because they are needing people to progress to be shifted to labour ward😬😬

@woollycat @Naughtysausage if your areas are like mine maybe they are just trying to get you booked for induction as a precaution so it doesn't go too far past 42 weeks as the wards are so busy and very difficult to get a slot at short notice however it isn't nice to fe steam rollered into anything. X

Naughtysausage · 27/05/2020 14:24

@helpasisterout exciting! If everyone else could just hurry up please. Grin But you'll be meeting your baby soon! What are you taking to entertain yourself with?

And I know you're right, they are busy and they do just want to book you in in time and safely. I think it's just because I felt I hadn't made the decision? But I think that's probably the wrong mindset, I need to reframe it in a better way!

helpasisterout · 27/05/2020 14:50

@Naughtysausage hopefully! Off for a scan just now apparently standard procedure here at 41 weeks to check baby is fine so that's passing some time instead of watching my phone! Packed iPad with some Netflix downloaded and a book although hoping it progresses in such a way that I won't need them.. ha ha next joke!

Yeah totally in my experience being a first time mum all the staff have been excellent but equally sometimes I think the older community midwives forget that you don't know everything about how the induction and birth process works so they have to start at the beginning and explain it fully! My absolute favourite midwife so far has been a 3rd year student who is so naturally kind and explains things so well!

Naughtysausage · 27/05/2020 15:07

@helpasisterout I love the students! They do always seem to be more patient and enthusiastic. Glad you've had a nice one too.

And a scan sounds good, like a reminder of what to focus on when it starts.
Fingers crossed for a smooth and quick induction, but if you're bored and sitting round you know where we are!

helpasisterout · 27/05/2020 15:15

@Naughtysausage could be a change of plan to scan now sat waiting for 40 mins and heard my name being mentioned at desk so went over and turns out midwife booked it at wrong centre so I've been sat at wrong place for 40 mins! So sent home now for them to hopefully phone me and let me know what's happening 😠

woollycat · 27/05/2020 15:49

Off to my appointment - wish me luck with the sweep!

helpasisterout · 27/05/2020 16:16

@woollycat hope all goes well!

Naughtysausage · 27/05/2020 16:50

Oh god. That would send me into a rage! You poor thing. Is it a long journey?

@woollycat good luck! Hope it isn't too uncomfy.

helpasisterout · 27/05/2020 18:56

@Naughtysausage about 25 mins either way so I wasn't best pleased! Off to the hospital now though an hour away for assessment for induction ahh been sick twice with nerves.

woollycat · 27/05/2020 19:27

The midwife attempted a sweep - said the cervix was unfavourable but she still brushed it anyway and said it might help. Would it though? I thought if it's unfavourable then there is no point. There was also what I thought was a lot of red bleeding - she seemed to think it was ok.

I also got pressured into booking an induction. They didn't have any available at my 42w date so they'd have to book me in another hospital, so I agreed for 41+5 for now but not happy about it. All of this was really not what I wanted 😕
