Yep @Sep20baby @Lazydaisydaydream I'v to get the HbA1c as an alternative but it wouldn't be as good. Suppose it's better than having to drink that yukky solution!!

WillowT · 15/05/2020 22:28

Hi Everyone!

I'm a bit late to the party but can I join?! Currently 22 weeks so due mid-Sept.

Everything is going well so far 🤞 My only problem is I don't feel very connected to the pregnancy....I don't think I've ever been one of those people who dreamt about being pregnant and being stuck in quarantine hasn't helped so I'm hoping joining you lovely ladies will support!

I've started to watch Life & Birth on iplayer to help prepare me for what to expect in labour and finding it really informative.

Anyway, hello and looking forward to enjoying the second half of my pregnancy with you all :)

Roxy8203 · 15/05/2020 22:44

@WillowT welcome along and congratulations.
I've started hypnobirthing go prepare for labour. I personally don't think anything on TV is a true representation of labour as it has to be dramatic or have a story to make it worth broadcasting. I personally don't want that sort of dramatic experience so am avoiding watching those shows but if they are helping you then it's all good.

Bubble29 · 15/05/2020 22:44

@WillowT congratulations!
Tbh, it's only been the past 3 weeks or so that I feel I have started to feel connected to the pregnancy. I think it was a combination of starting to feel normal (less fatigue, nauseous and getting back into exercise) and starting to feel the babies move (twins).

I also started to read the 'make your birth better book, by the positive birth company, which I'm really enjoying and has made me realise how amazing pregnancy is. Incidentally, the book said to avoid birthing programmes. I highly recommend the book. I also wouldn't feel to bad about how you feel, we are in such a weird time!

Bubble29 · 15/05/2020 22:45

@Roxy8203 I agree with you! Ha. Our posts age saying the same thing! @WillowT

Roxy8203 · 15/05/2020 22:55

@Bubble29 oops cross post

WillowT · 15/05/2020 22:59

Thank you for the welcomes and congrats :)

Weirdly I don't find the programme dramatic. My OH thought they might worry me but it hasn't had that affect, just showing what it can be like. I realise they can be exaggerated but it's starting to give me a feel for what to expect as I'm so clueless when it comes to this. I don't plan on watching loads, this is six eps which will be plenty. I never watched things like one born every minute or anything like that. I will also take a look at the book too!

ShiningStarz · 15/05/2020 23:00

Congrats and welcome @WillowT

I'v just bought a changing station, the changing pad comes off on this one!!

Sep20baby · 16/05/2020 07:24

@WillowT hi and congratulations! I’m 21 weeks and I feel the same. I feel like people around me are so excited and buying lots of stuff and I haven’t got anything yet and don’t get too excited when browsing online. I thought I’d be way more excited. It’s a strange time and I think there is a lot of other worries going on that cloud our minds. I’ve been watching life & birth gives you an insight to birth and was thinking of getting some boos but wasn’t sure whether they may scare me lol xx

Piper1879 · 16/05/2020 08:54

@chipsarelife
@Sara7455

Hopefully my 25 week appointment won't be cancelled on Friday ! And I can discuss this with her then , I'm getting frustrated most days because I'm fine for an hour or two then uncomfortable the rest of the day, I've also looked at a belt from amazon which should help.

Is anyone else consultant led? I'm meant to be consultant led due to a high bmi , but I have heard nothing from them ? Every time I've asked at the hospital I've been fobbed off , I had an oral gtt test at 16 weeks which I passed then my 28 week one has been cancelled and is now bloods only , just worried that I should have seen someone by now ? Especially if I'm meant to have extra apps and scans

Welcome and congrats to the new ladies ! 🥰

sianyflewog · 16/05/2020 09:05

@ShiningStarz Mine is also a hba1c blood test. I had the GTT last time though, and I was insanely hungry the whole time so quite glad I haven’t got to go through that again.

Welcome new ladies, and congratulations to you!

WillowT · 16/05/2020 09:23

@Sep20baby so glad I'm not the only one!! We have a few things but only because people sent them. I think browsing online is overwhelming and there seems so much stuff. I'm going to try write a list of what we need. I'm hoping I can safely go to the shops before the little one is born as I'm much better looking at stuff in person than online. Maybe it will feel more real then....

ChipsAreLife · 16/05/2020 09:47

Welcome @WillowT! Totally normal, doesn't feel real to me till they're in your arms! I've been enjoying life and birth, although agree on that show it's a lot of the more complicated cases or birth. I never found that with one born, most women have fairly straight forward labours they tend to choose people with a nice/interesting story as a couple/person.

I did find one born really helped me as with my first things went wrong and I could have easily panicked but because I'd seen an EMCS on there I felt calm and understood a little on what would happen.

I did also did hypnobirthing and found it helped keep me calm too! Everyone is different though and there is no right or wrong!

@ShiningStarz that's rubbish they cancelled your test. I think it's so hard to not worry about the care but hopefully the blood test will be just as good, guess it just means less time in the hospital.

@Piper1879 I hope it doesn't get cancelled 🤞 they seem to be doing more apps etc now in hospitals so hoping our care goes back to normal!

@Sara7455 yes definitely. Maybe set an alarm for every 30/40 mins to just get up and walk around for a minute or two if you can. I also try walk around when I'm on the phone!

ShiningStarz · 16/05/2020 10:02

Think my bump has got a bit bigger! My partner says when he hugs it in the morning he can tell lol!! I'v the linea nigra line now, more prominent below belly button but there's a faint line appearing above it now!! All these changes are so exciting!!

For those ladies concerned, speak to your gp, at lest having a urine test and blood pressure are good indicators of overall health. The nurses I understand will
Measure the bumps at the essential appts and look for too much fluid etc.

I don't think I'm at risk for gTT, diabetes is in my family but more tyoe 2. But that was enough for it to be a risk factor for me.

ShiningStarz · 16/05/2020 10:03

@Bubble29 the pebble plus seems to be sold out in black everywhere! They have it in silver grey on amazon.

MooseWL · 16/05/2020 10:40

Me and my partner watched one life and birth episode and were horrified. He turned to me and was like what have we donnnne 😂 I think we'll ignore that one for now!

Some of the clothes bundles I bought of ebay arrived this morning and I hysterically cried because they were so small and cute 🙈😂😭 I never cry, pregnancy hormones have broken me 😂

Roxy8203 · 16/05/2020 10:43

Anyone interested in the Icandy it's on offer on the virtual baby show this weekend

September 2020 3
ShiningStarz · 16/05/2020 12:22

Good to know roxy!! Shame the bugaboo isn't on offer! Can't even get it as it's sold out 🤣🤣 I was saying to partner the other day and said will we even be out cause of the virus! Do we need a pram lol

Lazydaisydaydream · 16/05/2020 12:58

I've been working my way through the digital pack from The Positive Birth company. About half way through and absolutely loving it. It's been so helpful and interesting, so much that I didn't know (and I've already had a baby!) is making me feel really positive and excited about birth.

Would definitely recommend it!! Although she does specifically say she doesn't think pregnant women should watch birth shows like one born every minute, I actually loved watching it when I was pregnant last time and I think it helped give me an idea of how different every birth is. I haven't been able to watch it since I had my son though!

Sunshinexx95 · 16/05/2020 13:16

Hi everyone ...
this corona situation is not getting better.. I'm a bit worried.. I was expecting my mum to be able to attend me giving birth to my first child or at least be with me after giving birth to support. But I am loosing all hope.. Plan A was to give birth in London were my parents lives and I had everything sorted out with my insurance to pay hospital bills since I am from Sweden.. now I can't even fly to London. I'm so so sad I don't want to go through this alone without my mum. My husband is trying to calm me down saying it will be over soon... but I don't think so.. 😢
Guys what do u think? 😭 will this be over before September

ShiningStarz · 16/05/2020 14:08

@Lazydaisydaydream someone told
Me about the digital package on hynobirthing. I definitely plan to start it from 30 weeks, something my partner and I can do together.

@Sunshinexx95 unfortunately I don't think things will be relaxed enough by Sept. there won't be total normality until there is a vaccine and that won't be until 2021 at the earliest. They are also expecting a 2nd wave and the R number has gone up in the UK. Personally I would be staying put and not exposing baby to more than just you and partner. Hope your ok

Sara7455 · 16/05/2020 14:29

I’ve got the Positive Birth company book (but haven’t actually started it yet) and my antenatal yoga instructor really recommends their digital course so I might well try that when I’m a bit further along. Glad you’re finding it useful @Lazydaisydaydream

@Piper1879 hope your appointment does go ahead, we’ve been quite lucky here as I live quite rurally and our GP practice is tiny that the midwife seems to be carrying on with her clinic there as normal. Receptionist seemed oddly surprised when I asked if it was still going ahead. Hopefully with restrictions lifting a tiny bit they’ll be able to prioritise antenatal care a little more.

@ChipsAreLife the reminder is a good idea- I’ve got a Fitbit that does buzz at me once an hour but I’ve got so good at ignoring it. I should probably make more of an effort to obey the move reminder. I’ve moved to working from my exercise ball as well now which is definitely more comfortable during the day but not sure I’m any less stiff when I get up from it.

Chanel05 · 16/05/2020 15:14

@Lazydaisydaydream glad that you're enjoying it. I've just signed up to a zoom hypnobirthing class starting in June for local couples. We don't really have friends in our area that are at baby stage and most of my close friends have children school age and beyond so thought it'd be nice to "meet" people.

ChipsAreLife · 16/05/2020 15:40

@Sara7455 ha ha I'm the same with my garmin!!! I do try hit 13000/15000 steps a day but often have to do at 9 pm 😅

@Sunshinexx95 oh love it's so bloody hard. I honestly don't know where will be then. I'm guessing you would have to come in August as you can't fly after 35 weeks. Is there any other way you could travel here that's not plane? My friend has a holiday home in Sweden and he drives over!! Appreciate that wouldn't be ideal heavily pregnant though. Could your mum come to you?

@lazydaisydream that's interesting! I didn't really watch it when I was pregnant but I had seen it before. I do think it's good to have a realistic views of all the different ways you can give birth. I went into my first thinking I was going to breath it out in the pool and had never really thought about a crash section would happen to me.

Afterwards I felt like a huge failure as I didn't do as I 'wanted'. It's a real balancing act and in labour sometimes, like for me, things are out of your control. But hypnobirthing was great and I used the breathing after when I was unwell and in pain. Still use it now when I'm going to lose patience with my kids 😅

Advice! Daughter is making an essentials list. Put down a Tommy Tippee twist and click nappy bin. Has anyone got one or used one before? I can only advise on what I did 30 years ago!
As I understand it you put the nappy straight in bin and it is sealed by something. What happens to wipes, cotton wool etc that you clean baby with. Obvs in my day you used a nappy sac and put everything in there. TIA
