Mrswizz · 28/09/2007 14:11

There is a chocolate muffin in my bag. Let's see if I can make it until 3.00 before I eat it.

mixedmama · 28/09/2007 14:18

Well doe if you get to 3. I have had a bounty on my desk since 11 and just eating it now. But have eaten loads of other stuff in between.

Dh was quite sweet the other day, I mentioned that I was addicted to Bounty at the moment and he came home alst night and said that he had got me a present (king size bounty) but had got hungry and eaten it

becklespeckle · 28/09/2007 14:26

I'm considering getting a bump band MrsWhizz, figure it might be useful for covering up jelly belly while BF for the first few weeks too... Might invest in some cardigans too rather than maternity jumpers as again they will be useful for that 'in-between' stage. Also, I don't want to stretch any of my normal jumpers - had to throw away loads of stuff that got stretched by my enormous boobs while BFing DS2 - normally they are teeny tiny!

I think you are right about people not knowing what to say too - do they think its reassuring to tell you that you look like you are having a big baby??! I know my baby is likely to be large as the other 2 were, my husband is 6'7" and broad as anything, what do they expect???

mixedmama · 28/09/2007 14:30

But she doesnt even know how far gone i am.... i could be 38 weeks for all she knows.

Mrswizz · 28/09/2007 14:53

Only nine minutes til muffin time...

mimicakey · 28/09/2007 14:54

mixedmama - I think you just wrote my birth plan for me!

mmmmmmmmmm, muffin

suey2 · 28/09/2007 15:16

at 30weeks 34GG (42 around) / 37/ 44

Hope you're enjoying the muffin MM! I just had some nice choccie biccies with a cuppa

at chocolate miffin...

bump is noticable with certain tops, although I might be able be a discreet if I wore a mega baggy top - then I would look overwieght.

Hmm - will dicuss it with DH tonight and will see....

skidaddle · 28/09/2007 15:36

Congrats on getting an interview MotherofZ - that's fantastic. i would also definitely go to the interview (displaying bump loud and proud) - that way you'll know if you really want the job or not, you'll get the experience of an interview, and hopefully you'll get a job offer which will be a brilliant boost later on if you decide not to go for this one. You can't lose really!

Mrswizz - I definitely don't think you are making a mistake having a homebirth with your first. As everyone says you can change your mind at any time. I would definitely go for a hb if I was allowed

becklespeckle - your husband is 6'7?!! My goodness, no wonder you have big babies!!

claraq - did your friend just mean she'd go for a CS because labour was really painful? Or was there something specific about VBAC? If you want to do it, I would go for it - it hurts but recovering from a CS with a toddler and newborn would be really hard

mimicakey · 28/09/2007 15:42

Peeps I'm so bored today; hope you're all having a better day!

skidaddle have you already divorced your new hubby?

becklespeckle · 28/09/2007 15:43

MotherofZ "bump is noticable with certain tops..." - my bump would be noticiable in a tent!

I didn't really think about the possible size my babies would be when I started seeing him Skidaddle!

skidaddle · 28/09/2007 15:49

mimicakey - not yet, just thought I would stop flaunting my married woman status for a while!

beckle - well you're a better woman than me then - it used to one of the first things that crossed my mind when I met someone nice (usually managed not to say it though)!

suey2 · 28/09/2007 15:51

yes congrats motherofZ- go for it! If they like you they may wait for you, if not, they may call you if something else comes up. It is very difficult to get good staff IME. I wouldn't bother trying to hide the bump.

RE epidural and the like- I don't understand why people are made to feel badly because they have opted for one. I will not be looking to book one electively, (due to increased likelihood of a cascade of intervention) but the moment i am out of control with the pain I will be asking for one.

Mrswizz, i facnied a homebirth as deemed low risk at my booking appointment, but DH vetoed it completely, so are we are going for the hospital option. I can see his point and bearing in mind the risks, I think he is probably right. But you ahve to do what is right for you. I plan to stay at home as long as possible, though.

Is there something wrong with me? I do not fancy a birthing pool at all! I like to be able to move around when I am in pain and I find one of the most effective pain relievers is heat. I have these heat pads at work which you stick on and they last for 8 hours. For me, much more effective that TENS- I find TENS bloody irritating TBH. (thought i haven't had a labour before of course!)

Maternity wear: I live in the three pairs of stretchy black overbump trousers I got from Next. Tops are, again, a problem. I've a few from Additions (part of Littlewoods) and have just put an order in for some more from them, and a few to try from Next and Blooming Marvellous. Problem for me is that most of the colours this season make me look ill (pink, brown, grey etc.) so I'm in black-and-white almost exclusively.

Also ordered a swimming cossie - remembered that the holiday we're going on in Nov. gives us access to a pool. Chirp! Five weeks until holly-bags and boy do we need it.

And I bought the first new clothes for tadpole - two baby bundlers (like a stretchy nightie with elastic at the foot end) from blooming marvellous just because I wanted them. You have no idea how rare that is!

mixedmama · 28/09/2007 15:54

Water is not everyones cuppa tea... I want to use it again this time, altho there was a point last time when I wanted out.... not strange, just different things work for different people.

mixedmama · 28/09/2007 15:57

hello thelady....

glad you have a holiday coming up albeit a little but you deserve it you have been working inccredibly hard.

Mrswizz · 28/09/2007 16:22

Oh Skidaddle/Mimicakey - am I flaunting my married status sorry!

skidaddle · 28/09/2007 16:37

yes wizz you are

Housemum · 28/09/2007 16:39

MrsWizz - I'm biased as an NCT committee member but I did the course vefore getting so involved and it was great. Obviously a lot depends on your teacher, as with any other, but there was plenty of time to really ask questions and by the end I felt as if I knew what was going on. On our local courses a breastfeeding counsellor does one of the sessions, and leaves a contact number so you can call her after the birth if you have any questions. Loads of info, and they don't push you to do one thing or the other - we had a mix on my course of vaginal & C-sections, and breast & bottle feeders.

Mimicakey - I know there seem to be so many choices, but some things are down to personal preference. Skin-to-skin is best but some people freak at the thought of the baby being put onto them before it's been cleaned up! Also re the cord cutting, if you wait for it to stop, it delays the syntocinon injection to help the placenta detach. that's if you want the injection - most MWs would want to cut the cord straight away as the quicker the placenta's delivered, the quicker they've finished!

ClaraQ - I had a VBAC last time - it was wonderful, I felt brilliant afterwards (despite the stitches where madam came out with her hand up by her face - teacher's pet already, still a lot better than recovering from major surgery) Perhaps I was just lucky, but it was the best feeling in the world after all the pain when this warm baby gushed out. Ooh, I get all emotional thinking about that moment...

Mrswizz · 28/09/2007 16:48

Skidaddle - shall I change my name? I could be Wizzska . I've been thinking of doing that anyway.

skidaddle · 28/09/2007 16:53

Wizzska I like it

mimicakey · 28/09/2007 17:05

I only said that because she was mrsskidaddle for a while!

Just called my friend who had a baby in July to relieve my boredom (but kept reading your messages at the same time of course!) Am off home now, hooray! Have a good weekend everyone. xxxx

Beanstermummy · 28/09/2007 17:23

Poo day today. All set to actually go ut for freinds wedding bash (they did it abroad so evening do is big one over here) but have been rough as all day. Then nursery called to say DD was poorly and had been sick all over the floor - so instead of chilling all day and getting perked up to go out, spent all day with not so bad poorly little person, still feel horrid and now even the babysitter has called to say she's poorly too - so even if we did want to go, can't now anyway And this was really our last posh do out - DH in full kilt get up and I was even going to venture into a skirt - away from my saggy yoga pants for a few hours - oh well - not to be.

As for Maternity clothes - glad it's not jsut me re. jeans - I seem to get a pair, they fit great for about 2 weeks then - nada. Big over bump ones aren't good to sit in and fall down when walking, under bump just aren't designed for 'normal' sized people (especially those who still have their DD1 jelly belly) - found a great pair in DP's that are sort of in between - the broad eleastic band at the top is great but the demin bit was then far too tight these last few weeks - gave up and took the scissors to them last week - look of horror from DH was asnwered by well if I don't do this I won't wear them so I may as well - the small cuts have expanded the tight bits perfectly and are all hidden by long tops anyway result.

Long post - sorry - Dh has taken DD to the playground for a bit of (gentle I hope) play and fresh air - giving me a few mins peace - my God I am a bad monther - wishing for peace from my sick child !!!! Honest htough - she's not that poorly now - obviously just threw up whatever as bothering her and if fine now.

suey2 · 28/09/2007 17:40

poor you beanster! I would be tempted to get dressed up anyway and get yourself a nice takeaway to arrive after beanster goes to bed.

I have started to really worry about money. One member of staff has just left, another leaving in feb and patients don't like change, even if the new therapist is very good. I need to be able to pay myself something from the business whilst I am on mat leave. Can't ask DH as our mortgage is about to double and he has paid for all of our moving costs and is feeling the pinch himself- big tax bill due in jan for both of us. The joys of self employment! You think you have it all worked out, but fail to notice the banana skin. Och well, will have to keep fingers crossed that numbers will bounce back by the time i clock off.

Hi everyone, it's Mrswizz and I've changed my name but it's still me. Don't mean to confuse.
