Hi everyone - have been reading through messages but not had much time to contribute even though I really wanted to say something about that awful woman on the Bringing Up Baby programme who wouldn't let that couple pick up their one day old baby (now I am all for routine and all but surely that goes against ALL instinct!). Have been really busy with DD also knackered as she has a cold and waking at 4am for last two nights and not really going back to sleep. How oh how am I going to do this with two??

Skidaddle and all others thinking about epidural - I will certainly tell them when I get in that I might want one and will just see how it goes. But if it helps make the birth bearable, why not?

Finally my DD already goes to a childminder two days a week and I don't work - she will stay there after baby is born to give me some one on one time with the new one and let DD have fun with her friends (rather than pester me while I am trying to breastfeed!). So please don't feel bad about leaving the child in childcare, it's probably better all round for everyone!

suey2 · 28/09/2007 09:49

ok what is the topic for the day ladies?

OP posts:
Mrswizz · 28/09/2007 09:54

Morning all.

I feel like moaning a lot these days. I've had a week of late nights, not eating properly, trudging around on fruitless errands, not sleeping and legs and feet swelling up. And to top it all DH has gone to NY with the boys for a last hurrah before baby pissup this weekend. But today I have the most comfortable pair of tracky bottoms on that I got last night from Sweaty Betty. They are making everything worthwhile this morning. They're smart enough to wear to work, and they'll do for yoga when I'm thin again and I can wear them for casual instead of bleedin maternity jeans that give me builder's bum. .

skidaddle · 28/09/2007 09:59

have you got under-the-bump maternity jeans Mrswizz? They are truly awful, aren't they? I learnt my lesson last time and this time have two pairs with a big stretch jersey panel that stretches over your bump - they are marvellous! If you don't think it's too late I would highly recommend getting a pair.

MotherofZ · 28/09/2007 10:03

got my over-the-bump maternity jeans from Dortohy Perkins and they are fab, even though the top of the jeans reaches right under my boobs!

suey2 · 28/09/2007 10:11

I really struggle with those! I don't know if i am a weird shape, but I am constantly having to pull them up. The under bump ones were great for me until a month ago.
But i love my new cords from crave- not comfortable for full loafing, but really flattering and comfy for when out and about.
In my yoga black trous from isabella oliver today which are wonderful and still smart enough for work.
mrswizz my dh went last weekend to berlin for his last hurrah. He was extremely special needs when he got back on Sunday!

OP posts:
Mrswizz · 28/09/2007 10:18

My maternity jeans are really rubbish. I first got a pair of Topshop ones with stretchy side panels. They are very builder's bum and too small for me now. Then I got some Dotty P ones on Ebay with a big jersey panel but although the jeans fit, there's an elastic bit on the panel that digs in a bit and doesn't go over my bump properly so they fall down too. I don't want to get any more, will try to make do until Baby comes.

skidaddle · 28/09/2007 10:25

mrswizz - for around the house last time I bought some extra-large tescos men's pyjamas for 3 quid and they were great - wouldn't want to be wandering the streets in them though as they look ridiculous but they stretch comfortably all the way round your bump and are so so comfy (probably made in a sweatshop in Cambodia but I will push that out of my consciousness)

suey2 - you are very posh with your maternity clothes - crave and isabella oliver - those are the places I looked at for my wedding dress - i bet you look very smart - not like me in my men's pyjamas

Oh yes I measured myself last night, think I am usually something like 34 26 36 and am now 36 42 40 so almost as much increase in circumference around arse as belly!!

suey2 · 28/09/2007 10:39

i know skidadd, am very naughty! I figured that since we want 2 kids, getting a small amount of nice stuff would be better than lots of not so nice. So have got a few nice bits which I have worn to death and lots of H&M mama and Gap maternity cheapies (gap v cheap in US)
Doesn't help that the crave shop is 50 yards from our flat!

OP posts:
skidaddle · 28/09/2007 10:46

I think it's a good idea though suey, I wish I'd bought some decent stuff first time round (made do with SIL's hand-me-down's and she is 2-3 sizes bigger than me). I've bought stuff that actually fits and looks OK this time and I feel so much better for it. And two pregnancies mean at least a year of wearing the clothes and you often buy clothes and don't wear them for long anyway so I think you have definitely done right and it will be totally worth it.

Mrswizz · 28/09/2007 10:54

I've been a bit naughty with accessories but have been largely ignoring buying clothes. Have got 2 new handbags and bought some costume jewellery this week and fashion week. It makes an outfit feel nice even if it is tracky bottoms and a smocky t shirt.

mixedmama · 28/09/2007 11:19

Morning ladies,

Seems maternity wear is the topic of the day.

I have two black smart maternity dresses that work bought me for uniform last time around, have taken to wearing black flat shoes and they come just below my knees, DH believes that I look like a bit of a Jewish Orthodox woman walkign around Stamford Hill They can be paired with heals and nice jewellery and look quite glkaam tho, wore them to my companies Xmas party and everythign lasdt time.

I also bought my mat jeans from DP last time, and tho i would not say they are great they are perfectly fine and are over the bump.

Bought some nice bright jersey tops that can be casual or for work.

I felt great the other day when someone complimented me on my black wrap dress - she thought I'd splashed out on a special outfit, I felt wonderful because it was £3 in New Look on their sale rail!!! Actually, I looked at my outfit and realised that everything I was wearing totalled less than £30

Accessorise suede dolly shoes - £12
New Look maternity wrap dress - £3
M&S Limited collection handbag - £5
(saw my handbag in white on Eastenders last night - not sure if that's good or bad!!)
Bra - horrid M&S cheap one as I begrudge paying lots for ugly bras - £6
M&S knickers - £4

Trinny and Susannah - who needs them! (I do like my bargains...)

Suey as the Isabella Oliver fan, have you tried one of their wrap tops? i got one to give it a go (it's more than I really want to spend but there was a free delivery/returns offer) - it looks great when you sort the ruching out except that if I reach up gaps appear everywhere? Are they just for posing in for heat magazine??!!
