New thread for us all to keep in touch. Think we're all nearing the end of the first trimester or dipping our toes into the second ... how far we've come since the days of agonising over stims!

Hi @Viletta - glad your midwife appointment went well, I have one on Monday. I feel huge now! Not too long to go for you as I think you were one of the furthest ahead? Exciting!

Sorry to hear about your DH. My brother was made redundant just as my niece was born and although it was really stressful at the time, he looks back now and feels glad he had more time with the baby. Is your DH likely to find another job easily?

@Viletta so sorry to hear about your DH, that is really rubbish timing and not what you want at this time. Has he looked to see if there are any jobs he can apply to? I am sure it will all work out and hopefully as Chook says he will just have a nice break with the baby before starting a new position. 🤞
I feel like a whale now and my slow pace has become even slower now. I can feel him right in my pelvis a lot of the time which isn't particularly comfortable!!

Viletta · 10/09/2020 22:57

Thank you, @FlapJackered and @Chooklass I hope we'll survive on my maternity pay till Christmas and he will find something end of November so he could spend more time with us at home. He's highly skilled so hopefully he'll manage to find something. Erch....
My midwife suggested harvesting colostrum starting from week 37 and gave me syringes to collect it and freeze. This should help not go overdue. Are you planning on doing it?

Chooklass · 11/09/2020 19:36

I'm going to ask my midwife about colostrum harvesting on Monday if she doesn't mention it. It sounds like a good plan for many reasons! I've not noticed any leakage yet so would even just be nice to know they work 😂

@Chooklass I've tried today and followed nhs video, collected a tiniest amount from one boob. Not sure if it's worth freezing, will try again later on. Need to concentrate on being stress free for the next couple of weeks.

Wimbledon1 · 12/09/2020 15:36

Oh no, what a shock about DH @Viletta. 😕 Sorry go hear this although suppose current economic environment and stuff....but still, I hope they feel bad doing that to him three weeks before becoming a dad!

At the hospital all my other NCT Mums are at, you get a harvesting kit and actively encouraged to do it. I phoned my midwife team (20 times before they answered!) and she wanted to know if I had a "medical reason" to do it. So guessing they aren't going to help me....but yes am going to try anyway. Well done for getting a bit!

Chooklass · 12/09/2020 16:06

I watched a youtube video about colostrum harvesting this morning (on My Expert Midwife channel) and she said a few droplets would be doing well to begin with!

Viletta · 12/09/2020 19:18

@Wimbledon1 thank you! I've got a kit too, a friend of mine gave birth twice both times going 2w overdue and she never heard of the colostrum harvesting! @Chooklass it's best after hot shower. I might try again in the next couple of days, feeling quite tender after.

Chooklass · 24/09/2020 10:40

Hi @Viletta - how are you getting on? Not long now for you! Xx

Viletta · 24/09/2020 11:24

@Chooklass heya, doing well! Got our birthing pool for home birth, now hoping I won't get overdue. No colostrum at the moment but hoping it will come. There is a great free online breastfeeding course on Blossom antenatal if you need it. Also thinking whether we need infant first aid course, we watched online videos and thinking that might be enough for now. How are you doing? How are other girls? How many babies we've got in the group now?

Chooklass · 24/09/2020 11:59

I don't think I'd be able to resist filling up the pool and trying it out!! Thanks for the breast feeding course tip - I'll check it out. I'm 37 weeks now and feeling HUGE! Can't believe we're all so close!

Never thought of a first aid course but sounds sensible to learn the basics.

There are two babies out now from October and Wimbledon, both early but doing well 😃.

Aww so happy for them! Boys or girls?
There are also YouTube videos on first aid that are helpful, terrifying to think of the situations when people need these skills, but it's better to know. I can't wait to have the baby now:) wondering what's the best policy with letting people see him and hold him with raising cases. I think I'll wait for first few weeks and ask close family to be super careful for 2 weeks and possibly get tested before they come, as some of them work in schools or key workers.

@October2020 and @Wimbledon1 massive congratulations, mamas!!

Chooklass · 24/09/2020 13:17

They have banned visitors to homes in Scotland again so that problem is sort of solved for now! Think I would have tried not to have visitors for least 2 weeks anyway. I think my parents are the only people I'd let hold the baby any time soon, but Mum works in a hotel and comes into contact with loads of people so it's tricky 😬

Hi Villeta! Sorry, I've basically stopped using Mumsnet now with the WhatsApp but just awake early on the night feed shift and saw your message. Thank you - we just made it to term (by hours really!) and as @Chooklass said, doing well.

Both me and @October2020 had girls. And we've both given them the same name!! So there's a pattern in our group at the moment 🙈😂

We've not found an available session yet but apparently the Red Cross do a baby first aid and I agree a great idea for the basics, I'm keeping an eye out for courses.

Not sure how much more I'll be on here but wishing you all the best of luck for your due date which I think is maybe even today? Hope you get your home pool birth and everything goes well for you xx

Viletta · 04/10/2020 08:30

@Wimbledon1 thank you! Wow what a coincidence on the names! Yes due date is this weekend, so far no sign of labour. I decided to wait as much as possible for it to start naturally. Wishing you all the best with the new baby girl! I'm so happy this group is doing so well!

Littlelot · 05/10/2020 09:00

Hey @Viletta - still hanging on in there? My due date is tomorrow - the midwives we’re convinced she’d be a few days early as ds was only 3days late but it would seem she is clinging on in there. Well not sure about clinging more like using my ribs as a kicking off board to try and escape through the bottom of my stomach! Surprisingly painful at times. They’ve offered me a sweep on Thursday if I get that far and I think I might take them up on that. So far no mention of an induction and would prefer to keep it that way if possible. My mum arrived yesterday so someone is here for ds when I go into labour but every time I look uncomfortable (every 5 mins) she asks me if it’s starting 🤦‍♀️😫. May drive me insane. Hope all is going well for you and good luck!!!

Viletta · 05/10/2020 11:32

@Littlelot how exciting! Not long now! I'm 1-2 days overdue now, not sure if my due date is 3 or 4 October as I can't remember if the frostie was 5 or 6 days. Anyway still hanging and having no signs, I think a tiniest amount of my plug is coming out. Mentally prepared to wait for another 10 days. Haven't heard from MW yet but as I'm with home birthing team I think they are pretty chilled. Having heartburns at night and feeling exhausted from simple tasks. Otherwise I'm in mint condition and happy to wait. I get a ton of messages each day asking if there are new news, people mean well. DH is asking every minute as well haha. Hope it all goes well for you! Keep me posted! Xx

This thread will be full in a few posts so I set up another so we don't miss any news! Especially from you @Viletta !
