New thread for us all to keep in touch. Think we're all nearing the end of the first trimester or dipping our toes into the second ... how far we've come since the days of agonising over stims!

Thank you @Wimbledon1 and Happy Easter to everyone celebrating today. :)

Can't find who is due for scans this week, I know @rainbow178 will have it soon as we had egg collection and transfer on the same day. How "eastery" is egg collection btw :) Sorry my brain is just weird.

I am also leaving the first trimester behind having more energy and the nausea is also fading away, but the best of all is that my hormones are not making me miserable anymore. That was the most difficult part for me started to question every emotion I had and every decision I made. driving DH crazy.

My 16 weeks appointment was put back after it got cancelled that freaked me out at first as I thought something was wrong so they need to see me again, but assured me they are re-instating these appointments for everyone.

@Vilettailetta, @FlapJackered, @Chooklass , @Littlelot can I ask how long did it take for you to get the results from the blood tests after the scan? My blood was taken on the 8th last week, assume it will be a bit later due to Easter...

rainbow178 · 13/04/2020 14:18

@Lily999 that is such a cute photo, congrats!! You're right, I'm not far behind you, scan on Wednesday- time is DRAGGING!! was your other half allowed in with you for the scan?

Starting to get a bit of relief from the nausea- still a bit sicky/indigestion in the evenings and I'm asleep by 10 most nights, but miles better than I was! Hope you're doing ok too?

Chooklass · 13/04/2020 15:46

@Lily999 I've not had my results yet but they were only taken on the 6th and midwife said they would take 2 weeks so if I've not had the letter next Monday I'll give them a ring (they said they'd have results on computer even if post was late).

Littlelot · 13/04/2020 17:22

@Lilly999 @Chooklass Mine took a week to come through. But I think longer is a good sign. They said to me that if there was something wrong someone would phone within 5days but otherwise I’d get a letter through the post.

Lily999 · 13/04/2020 17:25

Thanks @Chooklass, I should have asked so it is 2weeks? Oki then it's early days still. I was told it will show up on my app, so I have been checking as the rest of the results are there (blood type, FBC, Hb + the HIV, Hep B etc.)

@rainbow178 no, he wasn't unfortunately I was told it's a new directive and he had to wait in the car. It was difficult, but had to accept it given the circumstances that's the sensible thing to do. Keeping my fingers crossed for Wednesday for you! I am also asleep by 10 the latest, it's the new normal for me. :)

Chooklass · 13/04/2020 19:22

What app is that @Lily999 ? Is is just for your health board? Sounds useful!

Hi @Chooklass, it is called Badgernet, this is the card they gave me at my first visit at the midwife and all my blood test results are available, thought it's for everyone. Yes, very handy as I have a drawer full of paper, letters results etc.and this is everything tracked ion one platform. X

Just got a phone call from the hospital as my results are back, down syndrome is 1:7084 (oddly specific, trying to figure out if it's good), Patau is 0.24%, Edwards is 0.41%

Obviously Googling like a maniac.

@Viletta, @Littlelot are you having the 16weeks appointment at the end?

Viletta · 14/04/2020 15:20

@Lily999 great results! The number is always specific as it comes from a formula that takes into account, age, hormones and NT. My 16w appointment has been cancelled. Looking forward to the 20w scan in a month time.

Chooklass · 14/04/2020 15:45

Congrats on the results @Lily999 ! It seems Lothian don't use that app, odd that neighbouring health boards have different approach! I wish I could see my results!

Lily999 · 14/04/2020 16:29

OK, so celebrated too soon.

Apparently I misunderstood when she was talking as it wasn't Patau, it was PAPP-A and the result is 0.24 that is below the desired level :( It should be over 0.41 meaning I have a higher chance of premature birth and the baby being small. #freakingoutnow

Chooklass · 14/04/2020 17:47

@Lily999 that must be scary to hear but try not to panic - you'll be monitored much more closely now if your midwife thinks it's a problem and any issues will be picked up super quick. Remember it's a probability not a sure thing xx Thanks

OP posts:
DobbieFreeElf · 14/04/2020 20:27

@Lily999 my midwife specifically said to me at my booking appointment “you wouldn’t have had the PAPP-A with DS but if it comes back low don’t worry at all, just means you could have a smaller baby. And anyway you’ll get extra scans which is always nice”. DS was 2 weeks overdue and 7lb something so maybe “small” for being so overcooked but I will never know what the PAPP-A result would have been with him. So please don’t panic x

Wimbledon1 · 15/04/2020 08:07

Happy scan day @rainbow178 - let us know how it goes 🙂

Sorry to hear that @Lily999 but like when they said it seemed I could have gestational diabetes, it doesn't add to miscarriage risk or anything, just means they will keep a closer eye on you. Which is good right now. And your Downs risk is super low (mine was half that) so congrats!

Same thing in London with the Apps. My friend has it in her trust and thinks it was the best thing ever. But in a different part of south London mine uses paper records still which is frustrating. So much inconsistency in the system isn't there!

Lily999 · 15/04/2020 09:27

Good morning girls, so we had a discussion with DH and he is not overly concerned about the PAPP-A result (obviously would be nicer to know it's not low, but as you said @DobbieFreeElf and @Wimbledon1 this means they will keep a growth chart and a closer eye on us that is comforting. Also talked to my sister yesterday and she said both pf her boys were small during pregnancy and none of them were premature as in the last trimester they just caught up so I shouldn't worry.

however as I was researching this I realised that although I thought they did, but the NHS actually never screened me for Patau and Edwards. So told DH and he said we should get that done privately and pay for it. Looked it up and the NIPT tests are being done privately despite of the pandemic and it is annoying that we have to pay over £400 to find out, but we both agree that after yesterday it is for the best to have a more definite answer.

What would you do?

Viletta · 15/04/2020 12:09

@Lily999 hi there, I wouldn't worry about Papp-a results. I would check what your midwife thinks. It's unfair that NHS is not consistent. I got Edwards and Patau results from them. Both are quite rare and possibly they can see them at 20w scan? There must be a reason to why they don't test for those. I'd check with the midwife or consultant first before paying £400, it's a lot! But obviously worth your peace of mind.

Chooklass · 15/04/2020 12:34

I don't think they'll have tested me for Edwards or Pateu either @Lily999. I think anything which gives you peace of mind is worth it's weight in gold but like Villetta said, I'd speak to your midwife first as I think they are super rare.

My abdomen has felt really tight and heavy the last couple of days. Definitely some growing going on in there! I've not been this uncomfortable since stims!

OP posts:
Lily999 · 15/04/2020 12:36

Thank you @Viletta, I am trying not to worry too much about the low PAPP-A as it doesn't seem to be associated with anything really serious or permanent, if the baby is smaller or premature they do catch up eventually, and you are probably right as Down syndrome is ruled out now paying £400 for the other two seems a bit too much. Didn't know they can see the Patau and Edwards on the 20weeks scan.?

@rainbow178 good luck for today!

rainbow178 · 15/04/2020 12:54

@Lily999 @Wimbledon1 thanks for the good luck messages- just came out and all was fine!! Nice little heart beat and arms waving around! Michal was 2.2 and she said all looks fine- obs not confirmed till I get blood results but she seemed happy with what she could see! Yippeeeee!!!

Lily999 · 15/04/2020 13:16

So happy for you @rainbow178, congrats!! What is Michal?

Chooklass · 15/04/2020 13:45

Great news @rainbow178 ! X

OP posts:
Lily999 · 15/04/2020 14:15

Thank you @Chooklass I missed your message. Seems like Patau and Edwards is not being tested for in Scotland, but I didn't know they can be ruled out at the 20 week scan.
Glad you are feeling the growing of the baby, I also have a small bump and my first pair of maternity pants arrived today, super excited! :)

Chooklass · 15/04/2020 15:25

It's exciting isn't it @Lily999 ! I'm so glad not to be at work - I'm just living in DP's joggers 😂. I got some maternity jeans and leggings from a friend but not finding them comfy yet. The under-bump ones give me a builders bum, and the over-bump ones fall down as there is no bump to hold them up yet! Tempted to get some comfy dungarees!

The only new thing I have ordered so far is a maternity/ nursing bra as I only have two bras left which fit just now and don't think they'll last much longer. It's difficult not being able to go into shops and try lots on.

OP posts:
Lily999 · 15/04/2020 16:58

Oh, I am the same! At home I am wearing my PJ bottoms as there is nothing else I can bear on my tummy and on my daily walks I use my yoga pants, that's it. I am working full time, just from home, conf calls I only need to be visible from shoulders up haha!
I couldn't tell you when was the last time I was wearing a "proper" bra (meaning not sport), all of them are small and incredibly uncomfortable as well. I hear you re not being able to go to a shop and try things on, I am taking risks with items that are not free to refund also don't really fancy going to the post office unless it's absolutely necessary...

DobbieFreeElf · 15/04/2020 17:27

Agree with everyone about uncomfortable clothing, that’s a massive bonus not having to leave the house and therefore buying lots of maternity wear, I’m happily living in joggers and one pair of massive shorts!

My 12 week scan is tomorrow and I’m feeling increasingly terrified. I did only see the little bean last Monday but I had another bleed on Friday, the biggest I’ve had yet, and although I was quite chilled about it at the time (they had said at the scan 4 days earlier I could expect to have a bit more bleeding) I’m just panicking now that it was more than I allowed myself to worry about at the time. Doesn’t halo that DS(3) was in the loo with me at the time and saw and now keeps asking “where’s your blood?”

Not long to wait now but quietly shttng myself 😫
