New thread for us all to keep in touch. Think we're all nearing the end of the first trimester or dipping our toes into the second ... how far we've come since the days of agonising over stims!

Good luck today @Wimbledon1! X

How are you doing today @October2020? I've had spotting after an internal scan too, I think it's really common (I'd also still be worried though!)

@Lily999 Not really any pattern to movements yet. I notice them more in evening but think that's usually when I'm sitting still so will notice them more? Sonographer said it might be harder to notice a pattern with anterior placenta but that even without that we shouldn't notice patterns til after about 24weeks.

Anyone else struggling in this heat?! I hate the heat - not used to it in Scotland! Woke up way too early this morning so went for a walk and it was like being abroad! ☀️

Thanks @chooklass. Was actually calmer yesterday than today. Just completely lost the plot down the phone to my midwife - she is on annual leave but is going to see if she can get someone to listen to baby today just to reassure me.

I sort of KNOW it's fine - tiniest amount, nothing since, no pain etc., internal gives a sensible reason for it...... but it's the 'what if I'm the person who it isnt okay for' panic that I can't cope with.

Waiting for a call back to see if someone can hear her today. Hope she is okay Blush

Viletta · 29/05/2020 10:50

@Lily999 @Chooklass I notice the little chico is definitely more active at night when I lie down. It moves more and more each week too!

@October2020 I'm sure it's nothing and you'll be reassured soon! Worth being reassured than stressing out. It's probably cervix from internal examination that's nothing to worry about.

FlapJackered · 29/05/2020 11:48

Good luck today @Wimbledon1 !!! 🌟

October2020 · 29/05/2020 12:43

Baby fine, just mother that's a psycho 😳🤪 thank goodness for kind midwives. She held my hand whilst I had a worried cry, that might be the first physical contact I've had apart from my husband in about 12 weeks!

Let us know @Wimbledon1 xx

Wimbledon1 · 29/05/2020 13:07

Haha @October2020 this made me chuckle. Bless you. I think the GP thought broadly the same about me when I went in the other week for a listen, although of course was equally kind. Sorry you've had such a rollercoaster 24 hours.

I did ask about cervical length at my booking in and she went off to check and came back and said maternal history doesn't make it enough of a risk for them to check. But I might just go nuclear and ask the sonographer while I'm on the table later.

It's not until late afternoon, boo!

@Lily999 yes those sound the right times for movements if they are like mine. 10/11ish at night and in the morning. I have a 10-11 meeting every day and it's my favourite bit of the day as I settle in my comfy chair he/she starts kicking off and I need to keep a straight face on my zoom call 😄

@Chooklass I'm such a sun worshipper, I was lucky enough to live in Florida for a year in my early 20s and I pride myself on loving the heat. But yes over the bank holiday I sat in the garden and was horrified to find I could no longer cope at all, had to retreat indoors. Probably just as well our holiday to Greece next week went in the bin!!

October2020 · 29/05/2020 13:55

@Wimbledon1 nothing to lose by asking in a "I know you'll probably think I'm a bit batty but I would be soooooo reassured and hugely appreciative if......." kind of way. Hope it goes well! x

justkeeprunning5 · 29/05/2020 14:04

@Lily999 I am probably last on the list Of all of you to have my scan, right at the end of June when I will be almost 22 weeks Confused!

@October2020 glad to hear all was well. I had a similar freak out at 8 weeks with some brown blood, think I irritated it with some cyclogest insertion. Sounds like you have some lovely midwife’s looking after you.

Interesting point on the cervix check, my 12 week scan letter said they would check it but they didn’t. I will ask for it at the next one as it’s nice to have the reassurance.

Viletta · 29/05/2020 15:04

@justkeeprunning5 they checked my cervix at 20w scan with the ultrasound, she went very briefly "look here is your cervix, all looking well". I'm wondering if they check it without telling?

justkeeprunning5 · 29/05/2020 15:55

@Viletta thanks, they didn’t talk much when doing mine so it maybe the case. I just assumed it would be internal. I will ask to make sure at the next one Smile

Lily999 · 29/05/2020 17:52

Good luck today @Wimbledon1, mine is also at 17:30 on Tuesday so I feel your pain. Grrrrr :)

DobbieFreeElf · 29/05/2020 20:06

Hope your scan went well @Wimbledon1

Glad you got some reassurance @October2020

Wimbledon1 · 29/05/2020 23:20

Thanks everyone and sorry for the late update. Went straight from getting back into making rushed dinner and then a zoom quiz! But pleased to report all fine. Never heard the word 'normal' used so many times in a short space of time. Very happy to be normal! 😀

As expected, prosterior placenta which in a big change from what I was told at my private 16 week scan was 'high'. Plus I did exactly what you said @October2020 and played the 'I know you don't do this as standard but I'm terribly worried' about the cervix length, which she said was nice and long. Phew all round!! Think for those who want this it's worth just asking when you are on the chair - although she didn't do it internally but presume she would have if it were borderline.

On another note, I am horrified by this at 21 weeks, but has anyone else's ankles disappeared? Apparently it has a name, cankles. Awful! I'm only half way through, how can this have already happened?! 😱

DobbieFreeElf · 30/05/2020 08:21

Happy to hear it went well @Wimbledon1! Congratulations on being totally normal! That’s exactly what we all want to hear! X

Chooklass · 30/05/2020 09:19

Excellent news @Wimbledon1 !

I hadn't realised until I was chatting to a friend yesterday but there will be no more scans unless there's a reason, eg reduced movements, or bump measuring too small/ too big later on. Not sure what I was expecting ... just hadn't thought past 20wks I suppose! I guess I was kind of hoping DH would still have a chance to see a scan (but now I'm not, if it's because there's an issue!)

OP posts:
Viletta · 30/05/2020 10:40

@Wimbledon1 congratulations on your scan!!

@FlapJackered I can't remember is your placenta anterior or posterior? I heard it affects how big the bump is.. mine is anterior

@Chooklass I know it's so weird! Feeling the movements definitely settles down anxiety. I suppose we could do a private 3d scan at some point for bonding. I also wonder do they not scan at all before birth? How would they know the position and whether the baby has the cord around the neck or not...

DobbieFreeElf · 30/05/2020 12:54

With DS (much more relaxed, naïve first pregnancy 🤣) I only had the 12 week and 20 week scans, midwife every 4 weeks then every 2 toward the end. The midwife can feel how the baby is lying and they will drop right near the end, the midwife feels all of this with tummy and internal examinations. Cord around the neck they would only see when the baby is born I think but remember for the first few minutes the placenta is still providing oxygen and nutrients and I think as soon as they see it’s there they unwind it. Not something to worry about too much, certainly at this stage 😊

Wimbledon1 · 30/05/2020 16:10

Thanks ladies! Also, thank you to whoever recommended the seraphine sale. It's really good!! I'd marked four things in the catalogue I liked and three of them were on sale; including a £59 down to £29 dress. 💪🏻😀

Weirdly I was booked in yesterday for a 36 week scan which as someone else said does seem to make sense to check they are all ok and ready for delivery. Odd that this is yet another variance of the postcode system clearly!

Lily999 · 01/06/2020 15:39

Hi Ladies, hope the weekend was nice! It was super sunny in Scotland and we had a great time outdoors enjoying it. Went for a 7mile-hike on Saturday then spent the rest of the day on the sofa feeling absolutely knackered whilst DH was busy with the BBQ.

Scan is in 26 hours (but who is counting haha!), thankfully work has been busy so can use it as a proper distraction.

Meant to ask are you taking advantage of the restrictions being lifted? We have not changed anything even though we are allowed to and I am super desperate to see my sister, but still feels just too risky, would be curious to hear how are you feeling about this whilst being pregnant?

Viletta · 01/06/2020 16:19

@Lily999 this sounds amazing! We haven't yet been to the beach or out, DH is a bit paranoid about the lockdown and doesn't want to go out! 🙈 he keeps saying restrictions are lifted because of economic reasons and we should wait out. I do meet up with my sister in law though for walks in a local parks. I wouldn't mind seeing more people but only the ones that I know are working from home and being careful. I'm fed up with the lockdown though and want to be out and about!

Good luck on your scan! So exciting!

Chooklass · 01/06/2020 16:22

@Lily999 I'm similar, just carrying on as I have been for now. We live on East Lothian coast and it's been soooo busy all weekend! Beaches packed and lots of big groups etc. I didn't feel safe going out to meet people yet.

I know a few folk who did catch up with friends and family over the weekend and feel a whole load better for it!

justkeeprunning5 · 01/06/2020 17:24

We have met a few friends for a walk in the park (we know they have been WFH and careful) and will sit in my parents garden tomorrow after work for a few hours. They haven’t been out even for shopping in the last 12 weeks so I feel it’s safe enough to see them at a distance. It’s so nice to see people in the flesh! I wouldn’t see people I know who have flouted the rules / who have to go out for work.

FlapJackered · 01/06/2020 22:48

@Lily999 not long to wait now! 😬🤞
I have done a few garden meet ups with friends but keeping quite strictly to the 2 metre rule and take my own drinks etc. The risk is quite low in my area though so I am hoping it will be ok.

@Viletta I have an anterior placenta and my belly is HUGE! I already feel like a whale! I am hoping it's due to the placenta and not that I am brewing the hulk! 🙈

@Wimbledon1 hurrah for perfectly average!! 😁 it's lovely to see them again on the scan isn't it, weird that that is probably it now until we see them in the flesh!

I have just had a message from NCT saying our late August classes have moved online, I was wondering if they would try and do them socially distanced but in the flesh but obviously they don't want to risk it.

Has anyone found any really comfy maternity bras? I live in sports bras but they are beginning to dig in and I don't want to stretch them anymore.
I am just so used to non-wired soft comfy sports bras I am worried I am going to find any proper bras uncomfortable. It is really hard when you can't try them on!

Viletta · 01/06/2020 23:30

@FlapJackered haha I'm huge too! I bought wireless maternity bras on amazon, they are comfy enough. I also usually wear sports bra but they seem to be too compressing at the moment. Tbh most days I go bra-less and it feels so good!

October2020 · 02/06/2020 06:48

Good luck today @Lily999 let us know how it goes xxx

@Flapjackered a friend recommended the mumba bra which is maternity to breastfeeding but it's quite expensive. My really cheap old Next bras are fine right now but they are getting tight.

We have met a few people but socially distanced and I am being ridiculous about hand washing and disinfecting everything. I had been totally staying in the house but my mental health was starting to take a battering.

I had the same email about NCT. Feeling a bit sad and unsure about it not being face to face but then you guys are super supportive and I can't even see you so maybe I'm being silly!

I've started feeling a few more wriggles and kicks now, one was definitely a kick as my husband felt it! Not in a regular pattern yet though but am I right that we don't need to worry about that until third trimester?
