Evening all!! Sorry to have been out of touch, but bubba arrived... Baby Joseph Alexander was born at 4:44 am on Thursday morning in the back of an ambulance - we just made it to the hospital car park, but no further... My contractions stopped on Wednesday so I thought I would have a couple of days more, then very gentle, irregular contractions from 01:30 to 03:30 on Thursday am at which point I said to dh I thought we should perhaps call my Dad and ask him to run the dsc to school in the morning so dh could stick around in case things progressed. Then had a discussion about whether a homebirth was feasible with three children in the house so told dh to call labour ward and ask if it was even a possibility with the supected OC. Whilst we were on the phone o them at about 04:00 am, my waters broke which was like an internal explosion! Bit of a shock as my waters were broken in a contolled way with ds1...
Anyway, contractions kicked in big time so dh helped me to car, stopping on the way for more contractions. Got to car and had the urge to push so told dh to call an ambulance. Ambulance station is fortunately 2 minutes down road so they arrived fairly quickly. Got some gas and air and managed to get into ambulance in between contractions. We set off for the hospital - 8 minute drive from house! I told them I could feel the baby coming so we had to stop once on the way for them to check. Nothing visible. Got to hospital car park and told them I could feel the baby coming again - another check at which point Joe crowned... Born at 4:44, labour of 44 minutes according to my hospital notes. More painful than ds1 with whom I had an epidural, but amazing to be able to feel the baby moving down.
Had to stay in hospital overnight as there was meconium in the waters when they broke and have been busy with sorting out house/dsc/fending off over-enthusiastic toddler since I got home. JA is very cute - furry, spotty and very dozy, but sweet... Very pleased with his arrival, but would not recommend labour that short to anyone! If we hadn't decided to wait for the ambulance, dh would have been delivering JA on the A23 and I would have had no pain relief at all...
Anyway, congratulations to Lisa - sounds like you had an equally dramatic time... Mw told me that 2nd degree tear is the most common and just means that the muscle has torn a bit. I also have a 2nd degree tear and it is much better than my episiotomy from last time...
LES - congratulations to you too! It's all happening early here, isn't it?
J2O - that sounds very much like a show - exactly what I had on Tuesday evening and through Wednesday. I was also induced so had no idea that the start of labour could be so gentle. I probably wouldn't have realised what it was anyway as the contractions weren't lasting very long and were irregular, but I would not hang around if you start to feel contractions... Better safe than delivering in the back of an ambulance, imo!!!
Will try to get back tomorrow to catch up properly, but in the meantime, hope that everyone is keeping well and that there are lots of safe arrivals...
