@itsybitsya welcome back! Sorry to hear your pregnancy had been tough, how are you feeling coming to the end of it now?

@MarshmallowsOnToast I bf my first exclusively but on the first few weeks I did offer a top up bottle here and there. They used to provide them in hospital but no longer do so I would recommend taking some premade bottles with teets just in case there's any issues!

@Caspianberg I think it's completely up to you. I've read that every with the illness there's nothing to suggest you should stop BF baby as the virus shouldn't travel into milk and the milk should support baby if they get or. Obviously this advice may or may not change! My first was BF but had a bottle here and there then all of a sudden he refused a bottle and past about 3 months he would NEVER feed from a bottle. All was well in the end but it was difficult when I was u well etc. It took me a good 6 weeks to full establish a good feeding routine, so just see how you get on and once you feel your baby is feeding comfortably maybe introduce a bottle then as you don't want to hinder your breast feeding. You'll find what suits you ❤️

itsybitsya · 21/04/2020 17:53

@november90 @SwiftlySwifty thanks ladies, it's been pretty stressful but can see the light at the end of the tunnel now - I've had 11 scans, diagnosed with seizures, have to carry injectable medication like an epi pen, have had what started as a large baby is now small Confused but I'm still here, and the little madam is hunky dory in there and blissfully unaware of the drama she's causing pop

Sunshine8888 · 21/04/2020 18:09

My midwife told me nipple confusion is a myth - a lot of my friends exclusively breastfed and then couldn’t get their baby to take a bottle. I am currently combi feeding - Coralie is 3 weeks old on Thursday and so far so good 🤞🏻 it stays that way!

Size 0 nappies are for babies less than 6lbs. That’s what I’m still using but I think we will be moving to size 1 soon 😊

With formula, it can be kept open in the fridge for 24 hours but at room temperature just 1 hour so bear that in mind x

woollycat · 21/04/2020 18:20

@Sunshine8888 ready made formula can stay at room temp though right?

Raindancer411 · 21/04/2020 18:47

My midwife over run by 30 mins so I didn’t actually get in on my appointment time. She doesn’t rush anyone 😂 I have put on 3 stone in weight so far with this pregnancy 😳 I didn’t want to know but she worked if out and told me 😆 I was happy in denial. Bump measures 43cm which she was happy with. Told me the way she was laying and I got to hear the heart beat again. She checked the head position after I said about the problem getting the measurements at the weekend and she said she is rather low down for a second birth 🙄 Not sure what that means if anything

AlmostAlwyn · 21/04/2020 20:03

@MarshmallowsOnToast I didn't take any formula into hospital with my first and don't plan to this time either. Newborns' tummies are so tiny, they really only need a small amount at a time so you don't need much (colostrum/formula), depending on how long you're in hospital.

@Caspianberg As November said, there's no reason not to continue breastfeeding even if you're ill. You could be laid up in bed and dad can bring baby to you just for feeds if you're feeling really terrible!

@itsybitsya welcome back! Sounds like you've had quite a rough ride Sad Good that the end is in sight now though and you'll soon have your little girl in your arms!

Caspianberg · 22/04/2020 06:47

@november90@AlmostAlwyn - thanks. Its more me thinking what if I get properly sick and have to go into hospital. If baby was say 3 months old and only breastfed, dh would be really stuffed.

GinUnicorn · 22/04/2020 08:10

@Raindancer411 don’t know if it’s baby brain but I just read your midwife was run over for a second! Shock glad it was just me being tired ha ha

Emmacb82 · 22/04/2020 09:43

I had my 36 week scan yesterday, was much more organised at the hospital than at the community midwife. Was seen on time when usually they’re running 2 hours late! Baby all good, measuring 6.5lbs so they kept telling me it was a big baby 🤣

I’m not planning on taking any formula to hospital, am hoping to bf and babies really don’t need a lot of milk at the beginning. I will start introducing one bottle a day at the start, I did that last time round and my little boy wasn’t phased whether he had a bottle, a nipple or a dummy! Maybe it was just luck but we had no confusion.

123Pandy · 22/04/2020 10:43

@Emmacb82
That's great news! Good that baby is a healthy weight! ☺️

Are 36 scans the norm? I haven't been offered one and am a first time mum.

Raindancer411 · 22/04/2020 10:57

@GinUnicorn Grin

@Emmacb82 my one measured the same and was told she is on track. They didn't say anything about her being big. Even saw my midwife yesterday and she said she was where she needs to be.

woollycat · 22/04/2020 11:24

36 scan is not a standard scan, it's offered if there is a reason. I have my 36w appointment in a few hours, cannot wait!

Sunshine8888 · 22/04/2020 11:27

@woollycat, yes but once open it only lasts 1 hour at room temp

facevalue · 22/04/2020 11:34

@123Pandy first time mums and all only get 12 week scan then 24 week scan ... u only get extra if they need to monitor for a reason or you think there's a problem x so don't worry x

123Pandy · 22/04/2020 11:44

@facevalue @wollycat
Ah ok - thanks for clarifying ☺️
I also have my 36 week appointment today! Isn't it sad that I'm kind of looking forward to it as my excuse to leave the house 😝

facevalue · 22/04/2020 11:50

@123Pandy hahaha you read my mind. we really enjoyed driving to the assessment unit- my husband and daughter walked by the river for a bit waiting for me. then when i was running late they left and i got in an uber - loved speaking to the random driver for the journey home 😂😂😂 as pathetic as it sounds - love a human interaction

woollycat · 22/04/2020 12:05

Ooooh @123Pandy what time? Maybe I'll see you there! (At Queen Charlotte's!) mine is at 2:20

123Pandy · 22/04/2020 12:23

@facevalue it's these little things that keep us going 😆

@woollycat ah mine is at 4pm ☺️ judging from our dates I wouldn't be surprised if we are in the birthing centre/labour ward at the same time!

woollycat · 22/04/2020 12:31

@123Pandy hehe yes quite possible! I hope to get my birth centre referral today. And yes I am also looking forward to getting out of the house and the drive - almost feel like I should put on nice clothes for the occasion 😀 hope your appointment goes well!

Raindancer411 · 22/04/2020 12:58

With my first I had a 12 and 20 week scan in 2012. With my second the standard here is 20 and 36 week scans. When I spoke to people in my area who had kids at same time as my first, they had standard 36 week scans. I think it depends on hospitals and areas.

itsybitsya · 22/04/2020 13:05

Had my 38 week appt today, was supposed to be a telephone appt but because of my new seizures being diagnosed they wanted to see me and good job really as my bump hasn't grown at all since my last appt 2 weeks ago so I've got to have another growth scan tomorrow or Friday with the view to bringing her even early - I'm already being induced Monday as it is so I'm not sure how much earlier they can do it !!
How can someone so little cause so much trouble ! It's a good job she's worth it lol

sao81 · 22/04/2020 14:57

Soo little man is fully engaged 😬 hopefully wont be too much longer but maximum of 3 weeks to go! Got another growth scan on Saturday and more monitoring next week but so far so good

@itsybitsya they do cause alot.of trouble but sooo worth it!

Babymamma192 · 22/04/2020 15:10

@sao81 thats good news! He might arrive before you have to be induced!
I've just had my midwife appointment she said baby is head down (which is what's she said two weeks ago but the growth scan showed her being transverse) but then she measured me and I was small compared to what the hospital has said at the scan I had so then she measured me again and said I was on track Confused

Not sure I believe her tbh.....im thinking of phoning the hospital and seeing if they'll do a presentation scan

sao81 · 22/04/2020 17:33

@Babymamma192 go with your instinct! You will know yourself if what shes saying feels right or not, I'm sure if you explain theyll be happy to help

OP posts:
SwiftlySwifty · 22/04/2020 18:21

@Babymamma192

Definitely push for a second opinion if you're unsure! We had the midwife today as well and she said she was 99% sure he had turned head down - but sent me straight to the hospital for a second opinion anyway. The doctor used a little mobile scanner to check and he's now head down as she thought! Hurrah!

Always better to trust your instincts!

@itsybitsya

You're so close! Keep positive and look forward to meeting your little one ☺️
