I’m really really struggling at the moment. Feel like I’ve lost all purpose and just so stressed all the time. Have no patience with my 4 year old and feel so sad for my baby that he’s got such a stressed emotional mummy. I want to just feel excited and look forward to our new chapter but I feel like everything’s been taken away. I couldn’t work up to my maternity because my work were expecting me to expose myself to the virus, I don’t know when I’ll see family again and then all the birth worries. Ugh having a bad day.

On another note, my last birth I was in the water for a lot of it so just wore a bikini top but then ended up in theatre in a gown. This time I don’t know if I’ll get a pool so I’ve got a couple of nighties which I’ll probably use x

Just taken my shnuggle air crib out of the box to put together and absolutely NOT going to happen! It looks so complicated!!! Thats a job for my dad I think 😂🙈 Bless him he put my sons new bed together on Tuesday and now this! Thank god for dads ey! Or I should say the ones that stick around!!!

123Pandy · 02/04/2020 16:30

@november90 I'm still waiting for the delivery of my crib! And almost all of the baby stuff is still yet to come...I started a little late 🙈

Quick question for experienced mums...where do I put baby during the day when they're not sleeping?
Baby bouncer/ pod/ sling?
Any advice would be helpful...so many things on the market, not really sure where to start

woollycat · 02/04/2020 16:57

@123Pandy great question - I am wondering as well!

november90 · 02/04/2020 17:20

With my first I used to keep him I know his pram as I had a carrycot with it so I would just rock him in there or I had a little bouncer chair.

This time round I have a sleepyhead and I am planning on getting a jersey sling for indoors.

A lot of people use Moses baskets, and they really are so pretty! But in the grand scheme of things they really are there for the newborn days only so don't break the bank on getting one. But that's just my opinion :)

november90 · 02/04/2020 17:24

The biggest waste of money for me was a baby floor gym. It really just look up a lot of space and never entertained my little one! Bouncer chairs/swings are great because they can get comfy and some come with vibration options and music. I have a fisher price swing (from last time) and fisher price rocking chair for the baby and I'm not going to get anything else! I always found fisher price a really good brand to use for things like that!

All the other little bits you can get as you go as all babies are so different!

But if you want to save money and space and have a pram with a carry cot it works just as well as a Moses basket :)

Emmacb82 · 02/04/2020 17:52

I had a baby swing for my first and he hated it so hardly ever used it! This time round baby will have no choice 😂 we also used to carry the Moses basket down in the daytime for naps which worked well

Clairesoph · 02/04/2020 18:52

We had a bit of everything a Moses basket, A play mat and a swing chair. Will be using them all again! Never bothered with a sling or carrier, didn't wanna encourage a clingy baby that like to sleep upright on my chest, much preferred him to be used to sleeping flat and on his own 🥴 just personal preference(don't hate me). Probs be different this time, the only safe place from the toddler might actually be strapped to my chest 🤣🤣🤣

facevalue · 02/04/2020 19:13

@123Pandy depends on your home/ house/ flat space restrictions- you can put baby in sleepy head on sofa if u have no other kids or pets that would jump or pull baby off (safety). moses basket / buggy/ bassinet or simply on any safe surface including the floor if you are also sitting on the floor .

it's just common sense - safe spot that no accidents are likely to happen x

Clairesoph · 02/04/2020 19:31

My dog used to drop his tennis ball over the side of the Moses basket 🤢🤣 then sit and wait as if the one week old was gonna fling it down the garden for him 🤣🤣

123Pandy · 02/04/2020 21:09

Thanks for the replies ladies!
First time mum and no other kids /pets so think I'll either use the pram bassinet or get my other half to remove the bassinet of the snuzpod and take it downstairs for me.

@Clairesoph that sounds adorable!

sao81 · 02/04/2020 21:32

@123pandy we had moses basket, but she outgrew it within a couple of months luckily we kept it in storage for this time! Would also use a bouncer chair and a play mat, she didnt entertain the mat until she was about 3 or 4 months old but always loved the chair from day 1. We got one that vibrated and played music and she was always so settled in it

bouncy chair is a must but the electric swing thing my DD hated - but my kid had bad reflux too

anyone has bouncy chair favourite? i was thinking to buy fisher price infant to toddler

november90 · 03/04/2020 06:46

@facevalue I have that one! I put it together this week and I think it looks really good!

So I had a really down day yesterday. So much anxiety, felt really sad about all of the virus drama. I didn't go out for a walk which definitely didn't help! So now I'm getting ready to go to Asda (😩😩😩) as we have no food in and there no delivery slots for the whole of April here at any supermarket :( and I'll take my little boy out for a walk later. Don't feel good about going to Asda, but I don't have a choice!

facevalue · 03/04/2020 07:01

@november90 😞 sorry babe. i was ok last night - didn't watch any news- watched two movies then came to bed. i'll avoid the news today too ( only watch the 5:30pm speeches.

i did a sainsbury's shop 2 days ago- it was empty midweek ( at 3pm), they had everything including paracetamol, pasta, toilet rolls, bread fruit and veg... so don't stress about going to supermarkets at 7am! also check iceland ( they have delivery slots). huge hugs xxx

Rebecca612 · 03/04/2020 09:22

I’ve got the Mamas and Papas starlight swing which is okay from birth so going to set it up with the DH this weekend. Weekends are so weird now - I’m lucky that I get to WFH in the week so when it gets to the weekend I want to go out for lunch. Maybe a garden lunch? Haha!

I’ve been trying to avoid the news but because of my line of work we need to be aware of all updates so I keep reminding myself that I’m being as safe as possible, I’m following Gov guidelines and beyond that, it’s out of my control.

Happy Friday everyone, remember that you’ve woken up feeling healthy (as healthy as third trimester women can feel) and today is a new day Smile

@woollycat - I have just found out that a standard pillow case fits fine in our pram carrycot. Just tucked the excess underneath. So handy as have plenty of pillow cases, so saves buying something else.

We have gone for the babybjorn bouncer. Its more expensive but virtually everyone we spoke to said they bought a different one first, then ended up changing to that anyway. I'm please with it so far, and love it folds flat in one click so its currently just stored under tv unit in living room out of the way. As it folds it is easier to move around house and garden imo, and we will prob take in the car when visiting friends for somewhere for them to go (if we are every allowed to socialise again)

My current isolation project is I have started to make a diy mobile for over the cot. Its basic! but is passing a bit of time.

Raindancer411 · 03/04/2020 12:17

My anxiety is in full swing today so I have just pulled out my lost ocean colouring book and let my 7 year old have a day off from home school.

May go and look at the items we had delivered from amazon later (they have been in the babies room in quarantine for a week now.

Saoirse7 · 03/04/2020 12:58

Hey everyone, hope you're all coping well under the lockdown.

I posted a thread earlier about baby prep but it might have been a bit long winded Blush.

It's my first baby and due at the end of May. I feel I haven't really done much to prep for baby, while at the same time not really knowing how much more I can do. I'd be really interested to know what all you have done/are doing to prepare for baby's arrival and any recommendations would be greatly received.

So far I have:
-Been talking to baby regularly (as has my husband)
-Taking antenatal vitamins
-Completing online antenatal course
-Got pram, moses basket, a few vests, clothes, bottles, nappies etc.

Feeling unprepared but perhaps it's just the feeling of the unknown!

Caspianberg · 03/04/2020 15:12

@Saoirse7 - baby due in 3-4 weeks here, haven't been talking to baby at all and haven't done any antenatal classes so your way ahead there.

Ps, Are we supposed to be taking to baby bump? It had honestly never occurred to me I was supposed to do that.

Saoirse7 · 03/04/2020 15:20

Caspianberg- my midwife told me at one of my earlier appts it is good for the dad to talk to baby so it recognises his voice. The antenatal I've been doing just consists of the stages of labour etc.

I suppose I feel like I'm unprepared and especially with all the time now I'm overthinking everything Confused

Caspianberg · 03/04/2020 15:42

@Saoirse7 - ah ok. I just assumed they would hear our voices when Dh and I talk to each other anyway.

I was slightly in panic mode as due date 2nd May, but baby is already fairly large so they are saying maybe induce a few weeks early. Will see at next appointment on 15th. But atm everything is changing on an almost hourly basis so I have given up preparing for things a certain way as just can't guarantee anything right now.

GinUnicorn · 03/04/2020 15:51

Hey all,

Just checking in. My anxiety has been through the roof with CV so apologies for being quiet.

Has anyone got a recommendation of an affordable bouncer or swing. With being furloughed money is going to be tight.

Caspianberg · 03/04/2020 16:09

@GinUnicorn - Amazon had several brands of bouncers in the £20-40 range if you take a look and see if any appeal. Theres a brand called bababing on there that seem to have a range thats a reasonable price and you can see what style you prefer.

Otherwise I would suggest secondhand but it depend son when you are due and how easy they are to get right now with isolation.

Lifesforlivingandloving · 03/04/2020 17:29

@GinUnicorn
Try online4baby
We got ours from there for £55 that would of been £85 on amazon x
