@CharlieB93 I think it's great and reassuring. Just make sure you know what your rights are, what the RCOG and RCM are recommending and ask for clear explanations of why they're doing things x

RainbowsX · 31/03/2020 15:16

Hi everyone,
I need some help/advice my pram with carseat was supposed to arrive this week but the actual company have shut down their warehouse due to the pandemic (which I totally get why). The company I have bought my travel system from have told me it should arrive for baby coming but there's a chance it won't so have offered for me to pick a new travel system. Only issue is I can only pick from online I can't go into the store to look/try out. I really don't know what to do and panicking incase I haven't got a car seat to get baby home. What would you all do? Pick a new systemor hold out and hope for the best? I know with everything going on this is a tiny issue but I'm panicking.

CharlieB93 · 31/03/2020 15:35

@rainbowsx can you borrow a car seat from someone? Just so you can get home if worst comes to worst and they don’t deliver on time?
We are in the same situation so are planning on using my sisters if we are caught short (obviously will sanitize, not touch it for a couple of days etc)

RainbowsX · 31/03/2020 15:40

@charlieb93 that's the other issue, I have no one that I could borrow one from. So I just don't know what to do. Don't know if I should just purchase a car seat from argos just incase. Thanks for getting back to me x

Raindancer411 · 31/03/2020 15:42

Had my 33 week growth scan today and baby is head down and weights 5lbs. Measuring right in the middle of the two curve lines.

Was asked is had any symptoms and had sanitised my hands on entering but my sonograph person didn't have any protective gear on. Am hoping he was one of the ones maybe tested and now going to watch myself for the next 7 days

Purple29 · 31/03/2020 15:49

@rebecca612 no theres no word as to when he will get home. He is doing everything he should be but he needs to learn to feed now.

They dont develop the suck/swallow/breathe reflex till about 34 or 35 weeks. So its tube feeds till then.

He then has to take full feeds without getting too tired. So still likely a few weeks yet.

CharlieB93 · 31/03/2020 15:50

@RainbowsX ah bugger, not sure what id do then! Sorry I’m not much help x

Rebecca612 · 31/03/2020 15:56

@RainbowsX picking a pram/travel system can be super personal for parents but we got the Ocarro from Mamas and Papas with the cybex car seat. It came in just over 2 weeks so speedy delivery. I’d recommend that travel system if that’s one that the company are offering but I suppose it depends on your needs. We don’t use public transport, primary needs we’re getting it in and out of the car, sturdy, easy folding etc.

@Purple29 as long as he’s getting stronger everyday that’s all that matters - hope he’s home soon enough for you xx

Caspianberg · 31/03/2020 16:19

@RainbowsX - I guess you can either pick new set, or otherwise maybe look at the joie juva car seat, it has good reviews and only around £40. You could donate or sell it afterwards once original arrives.

@Purple29 - glad your little one is doing well, what gestation was he born at again? how old is he now?

sao81 · 31/03/2020 16:34

@Babymamma192 had my midwife app today and she said that birth partners are allowed to be with you as soon as u go to delivery suite, And that he can stay with me as long as im in my own room on delivery so he'd have at least a couple of hours for me to get sorted after baby is born before i moved to the ward, when im going home theyll take everything downstairs and meet him in the car park to take us home, and that there is no plan to change this to no birth partners, so hopefully we will be ok 🤞 said my consultant appointment may take place over the phone, and health visitor team are prioritising 1st time mums for the pre birth visit xx

@CharlieB93 I'd search any pram you think of buying on google and look for peoples reviews if you were thinking of swapping! Its little things like this that you still want sorted so dont feel bad for stressing over it I'd be exactly the same!

Lu1u · 31/03/2020 17:43

@RainbowsX how annoying :0 who did you buy from? Maybe if you say which pram and car seat you originally wanted someone here will be able to suggest some similar alternatives?

Purple29 · 31/03/2020 18:53

@caspianberg he was born at 30 weeks, he is now 3 weeks old. Hes still small but getting bigger every day.

Thanks all for the well wishes. He will get there, just gonna take a few weeks but hes in the best place, getting the right care!

november90 · 31/03/2020 19:20

@Purple29 bless him! Have you decided a name? It must be such a mixture of feelings having a baby so early because whilst obviously you're so happy and excited he's here, you've missed a lot of the pregnancy too! I hope you're looking after yourself!

Speaking of names has everyone decided yet? I think I've got my name :)

Not sure who made the comment about the pram earlier (I'm a little behind) but I'm so anxious about mine! I was going to reuse my eldest icandy pram but it was damaged in Storage so I ordered the egg pram in deep navy with the carry cot and push chair seat in store last week and it should be there within a week or so to collect but I'm so worried they will cancel it! I can't wait to have everything here and ready. I sorted all my baby grows out today and I've definitely bought fat too many, but ah well! It's exciting :)

sao81 · 31/03/2020 19:30

@november90 we have finally agreed on our name today! And ive also sorted all his clothes 😂 his hospital bag is now packed so just mine to do now

@Purple29 so pleased to hear that little man is doing well, hopefully in a few weeks he will be safe and snuggly with you at home x

Rebecca612 · 31/03/2020 20:28

So my hospital have now announced that the birth partners can stay for the birth/c-section and for ‘a while’ once the baby is here and then will be asked to leave. They’re then not allowed to return to visit until mum and baby are discharged. I’m trying to be as positive as possible but... bleurgh!!! They’re doing the best thing to lower infection rates but I can’t help but feel really selfish and want it the way I had planned. But there we go, need to just get on with it and pray that me and baby are healthy and don’t need to stay longer than necessary. I have my scan and consultant appointment tomorrow so I’m going to ask if we can hold off the c section as long as poss eeek wish me luck!!!

november90 · 31/03/2020 20:37

@Rebecca612 oh bless you! It could all change by the time it's your time. Things are changing so much all the time! Nothing is going as it should, but we'll look back at this with our little pandemic babies in the future and think, wow! Look how strong we were!!

@sao81 my baby is mainly packed, but still a few bits. I don't know why I'm treating myself to all new things 🤦🏼‍♀️ My friend had a baby last week and was out within 8 hours and my sister had her baby a few days ago and was out within 24 hours 😂

sao81 · 31/03/2020 21:15

@Rebecca612 I think most hospitals are now doing the same which is such a shame but got to think of whats safest for us all, although I do wish my partner could visit if we have to stay in 😥
@november90 I only stayed 1 night with my first and I really overpacked, and now i feel like ive underpacked 😂 got it in my head they'll discharge me pretty quickly so literally packed enough for overnight and hoping to be home quick. Ive also treated myself to new things, not sure if its boredom being at home but we deserve it!

november90 · 31/03/2020 22:14

@sao81 I remember with my first I was in a few days as he had a few breathing issues and I was so excited about his baby grows at home that I hadn't packed I asked my mum to bring them all in for me, I can still see he coming in with an shopping bag full of them 😂 So I've gone wild this time! I just love a baby in a baby grow. They look SO sweet!

Is anyone else suffering with back ache and has a miracle remedy which doesn't involve a massage from a partner (🙈) my back is SO soar and I just don't know what to do to relive it! It's mainly under shoulder blade level and I think it's a mixture of a big breach baby and playing on the floor with my toddler all day 🙈 But either way it's really uncomfortable!

AlmostAlwyn · 31/03/2020 22:31

@november90 sorry I don't have any advice, but playing on the floor with my toddler gives me the worst pain across my shoulder blades after a while! Any way you can do more with him sitting at the table? Drawing or playdough or legos or something? Or set up camp in bed and play there? Smile

Purple29 · 01/04/2020 06:54

@november90 yeah we have named him. We cant register him just kow as all the registry offices are closed. So they have waved the 3 week limit on registering the baby.

Can still register him with gp tho. Although we cant as having to live in the hospital accommodation as the neonatal is a bit away from where we live.

Caspianberg · 01/04/2020 09:03

Had scan this morning. All good. Baby already around 3.5kg..(7.7lb) apparently. But they said its +/- 500kg accurate. Either way he's somewhere between 6.6lb and 8lb already and I still have a month to go. Dh was allowed at the scan.

Have hospital booking in appointment now in 2 weeks time. They said Dh isn't allowed in for this at the moment. Have to use a certain entrance where I will have temp taken etc before being allowed into main building. Partners currently allowed at the birth (they weren't here last week)

Babymamma192 · 01/04/2020 10:33

@sao81 thanks so much for letting me know! I'm so glad they're not planning on changing it to no birth partner!
So I guess as long as I'm 4cm or more when I go in then he should be OK to stay with me until she's here.
That has made me feel a bit more relaxed....now I've just got to hope I don't have to be induced 👍😊 xx
