[sniff] and as if by magic, Crave seem to have sold out of exactly the things I want in the colours/sizes I want them...

lemonaid · 04/10/2007 22:37

[idly browsing through] Now if I wore this I'd look like an oven-ready turkey (have ordered something from their site, though... may as well take advantage of weak dollar while I can and trust that the post office will have sorted themselves out by the time it arrives).

lemonaid · 04/10/2007 22:43

(actually, I chickened out when I saw the shipping. Ulp!)

hpsaucey · 05/10/2007 02:43

Hello. Been away for a while so just wanted to say hello to all you lovely ladies (and bumps)!

Must be getting to the point where most of us have had that 12 week scan?

Don't know if anyone else has given up on the weighing thing? I've just put the scales away and given in the the growing bump. Maybe a second time round thing but look about 5 months gone. Could be baby or it could be the curry paste sandwiches. Hhhmm. Pregnancy sure does some strange things to your body.

Love to you all.

H

My dh wants me to stop drinking coffee. The information is pretty flimsy about caffeine effects on fetuses. Is anyone else drinking coffee? Should I stop being selfish and give it up? I'm having one cup every morning - proper Americano coffee.

fatslag · 05/10/2007 09:01

mrsgaskell - I'm cheating because I'm not pg, but had to chip in on the coffee debate. My DH bitched at me through 2 pregnancies about my coffee habit (1 large cup at b'fast, 1 large cup after lunch). Both boys fine and healthy.

If you look on the internet you can find a wealth of evidence both for and against coffee drinking. The only hard evidence indicates that coffee drinkers have more trouble conceiving, but if you're due in April, that's not a problem, hey?!

Piccalilli2 · 05/10/2007 09:06

Mrsgaskell, I'm still drinking coffee - weirdly I don't much normally but really need it when pregnant as I get so tired. If you're sticking to one a day as I understand it there's no evidence whatsoever that it's harmful. And I think the effect of excess caffeine if anything is to marginally increase your risk of miscarriage rather than it affecting the baby iyswim. Several of my friends were sent away for a cup of coffee before their 20 wk scans so the baby would wake up and they could get a better picture so it can't be that harmful.

Piccalilli2 · 05/10/2007 09:14

I was 12 wks exactly at my scan and CRL was 52mm - is that weirdly small or about right? Thb though I don't really think they can tell what size baby you're having til it pops out, I was told in no uncertain terms I was having a whopper at my 41 wk scan and she was a perfectly acceptable 7 llb 8, if anything small for 16 days late.

Kirbo · 05/10/2007 09:20

Dilemma re clothes. I have a wedding at the end of the month and need to buy something new to wear . I am 12+3 today and bump hasn't really appeared yet. Was thinking of going to look for something to buy this weekend but now worried that if I do - I'm not going to be able to fit into it come 3 weeks time. Do I wait until nearer the time and run around seeing what will fit me (will be 15 weeks by then). Dilemma!

Mollyfloss · 05/10/2007 09:34

Kirbo, most of the maternity stuff stretched as you grow so that's probably your safest bet.

Regarding caffeine, I switched to organic decaff before I became pregant as I heard it was better for you. The taste really is no different. They use a lot of chemicals in regular decaff to take out the caffeine which can be just as harmful as the caffeine itself but in organic they do it naturally so it is supposedly better for you. However, once the ms kicked in I couldn't stand the smell of coffee. I can't stand the smell or taste of a lot of things actually. The blander the better!

Mollyfloss · 05/10/2007 09:36

I meant 'stretches' as you grow

lemonaid · 05/10/2007 09:48

I'm not drinking coffee but that's because I can't stand the taste of it when I'm pregnant (makes me want to gag) rather than because I'm worried about it from a health point of view. There's no evidence that one or two cups a day will make any difference.

Kirbo -- I think you should be OK if you just look for something that will give you plenty of growing room in the tummy area, so nothing too fitted. I forget where you live? Are there plenty of maternity shops in case you need a last-minute panic shop?

scorpio1 · 05/10/2007 10:04

Hi

I am drinking decaff coffee; midwife advised it. I am having the odd up of tea though, and chocolate had caffeine too. Safe limit in pg is considered 300mg per day

Coffee cup: 75 mg
coffee mug 100mg
Filter coffee cup 100mg
Chocolate (milk) per bar 25mg
Tea 50mg

I had my scan yesterday Baby al fine. 12+6 yesterday and 61 mm. The sonographer said i have had a little bleeding behind my placenta in early pg-i just freaked becuase i heard blood. Has anyone else had this? I have had no vaginal bleeding. She siad now i am as normal as any other woman pg at this stage, so thats good, yes?? Am trying to ring my MW but no-one there. The veiny bits last week were actually an area of seperation between membranes and uterine wall-all joined up now and happens to every woman, just some close up before mine, IYSWIM? So a couple of things going on, but nothing threatening at all to baba. No follow up needed So looks like inm ahving a baby in April then! My EDD has changed to the 11th, a day ahead! Will change it in a sec.

Maternity clothes: i have been in mine for weeks!

am wearing this outfit today its so comfy! Jeans have a lovely soft panel

Have got stuff from next, new look and am going to buy a lush jumper from isabella oliver, then thats it. i have tons of stuff!

Just booked our xmas break at butlins its actually quite good fun, we went in summer when i was about a week pg and didnt know!

Everyone else ok?

Soph73 · 05/10/2007 10:12

Morning all. Scorpio - that´s the outfit I´ve asked my mum to get for me She´s also sent me some M&S stuff so am picking that up tomorrow. On the coffee debate am still having my 1 cup a day.

Soph73 · 05/10/2007 10:12

Over here they look at you funny if you give up everything. When I was expecting DS my MW looked at me as if I´d grown a second head when I asked if I had to give up wine completely

scorpio1 · 05/10/2007 10:13

oh its so comfy but im not sure the top is long enough to cover a full term bump

lemonaid · 05/10/2007 10:20

I am wearing this top today.

And I think it looks better on me than on the model (and I think this may be the only time I've ever said, or will ever say, that). I have norks where she apparently doesn't (actually, she doesn't seem to have a bump either, which is a bit of a disadvantage when modelling maternity wear) and it's a better colour on me. And it's soooo comfortable...

smcg · 05/10/2007 10:58

Hi, hope you are all doing well.

I bought a couple of things from Isabella Oliver but don?t need them yet. I think they are expensive for what they are.

I had my 12 week scan yesterday but unfortunately the nuchal fold test results were not good (1 in 44) and the baby has 2.7 mm. I am 35 so I suppose that goes against us anyway. They then did blood screening test. My dh and I are very worried, I cried all night. We keep telling ourselves that the risks are still low but we just have to wait for the blood test results, we?ll get those back sometime next week, and we?ll take it from there.

Anyway, sorry for the downer.

smcg · 05/10/2007 10:59

The baby has 2.7 mm of fluid on his/her neck, I mean. Sorry, not thinking straight.

scorpio1 · 05/10/2007 11:01

Oh smcg, hope you are not crying too much today.

Im not aware of what sort of measurement is considered in the 'normal' category?

Does the test result have much bearing on your final decision, IYSWIM?

I really hope i am not coming across badly, i am sorry you are going through this.

scorpio1 · 05/10/2007 11:02

And how terrible you have to wait so long for the results.

smcg · 05/10/2007 11:04

Dolly1, I've just read down and see that you had CVS. Did your hospital do it or did you go privately? I am thinking of having it now. Thanks.

smcg · 05/10/2007 11:09

Thanks Scorpio.
Normal risk is 1 in 250, or something like that (for my age), not sure about the measurements. They did tell us that they had babies with 3.5-4 mm of fluid who turned out to be absolutely fine so hopefully it is a storm in a teacup!

If the blood test is bad we will have CVS, don't know what we'd do after that.

The staff were really nice at St Thomas', it's unfortunate that I wasn't in earlier in the week, I suppose the weekend delays things!

lemonaid · 05/10/2007 11:10

1 in 44 still means that there is a 97.8% chance that there is no problem. But I know it's human nature to focus on that 1 in 44 chance of a problem rather than the 43 in 44 chance that there isn't. Are you thinking of going for CVS/amnio? Would you consider going privately somewhere like the FMC to get a faster result (or you may have been going privately already, I don't know)?

scorpio1 · 05/10/2007 11:10

So the blood test just combines factors with the scan to give you a x:y ? I supppose CVS will give you a yes/no answer. Hard to call, isn't it?
