Toastaddict - you are due about the same as me and, like you, I feel like I am soon going to have to go public as my stomach is massive and I have had to buy maternity clothes!!! Did not want to buy any yet, as wanted to wait till scan which is on the 12th Oct, but had to as I literally don't fit my jeans!! I feel that having this little bump so early is strange and am a bit confused as to why (I am 11+2) - twins maybe???!!!

And Toastaddict - sorry to hear that you are sleeping so badly - rubbish, innit?!

dolly1 · 03/10/2007 20:12

Hi ladies
well on the subject of pain - boy does CVS hurt! I had mine today and it was not pleasant.
The pain has almost subsided completely and just niggly now but still feeling a bit sorry for myself.
Get the results on Friday hopefully.
Was lovely to see the baby on the scan though. According to the doc he looks perfect but I just needed to know for sure. Some of you will remember my yolk sac issues so felt I really had to get definte answers that the scan alone couldn't give me.
Is anyone else having CVS? If so I'm really sorry if I've put you off! I would still do it again even knowing that it hurts a bit.

Also asked the doc about the other pains I'd been having before and he said that is perfectly normal and just uterus stretching.
He's one of the best in the world so hope that put some minds at rest - he really reassured me.

The upside to the CVS (other than hopefully finding out all is well) is that I'll know on Friday if it's a boy or a girl. Really think it's a boy for some reason so we'll see if I'm right.
x

Well, I went public as of yesterday evening only to find out that a member of my family had told alot of people already even though they were sworn to secrecy because they knew we were waiting for test results. I'm very narked...and feeling a tad bitter, it was our news to tell afterall, hey ho !!

I got my nuchal scan/blood test results last night..all good, so we finally told ds, who was so thrilled and danced round the house singing 'I'm gonna be a big bruva' (rap stylee....quite disconcerting for an 8yr old..lol) he kissed my bump and said 'hey I love you in there'....gawd....I sobbed.

Littlemiss - raisins worked great for me when i was expecting ds, but this time they didnt do much at all. However dried prunes (they dont taste THAT bad actually) really worked 2 days after eating a packet.

Dolly1 - Glad the CVS was bearable....very exciting that you'll find out the sex.

Hope everyone is doing ok

x

Mollyfloss · 04/10/2007 10:55

Hi everyone,

I've just been catching up on all your news. I didn't post much the last few days as I was very worried about my upcoming scan and was trying not too think too much about it. I finally had the scan yesterday and everything went very well! The baby was bouncing around, had all its hands feet, etc and the nuchal test was fine. I asked the Doctor if he had any idea if it is a boy or girl. He said sometimes you can have a guess even this early (I'm 12+4) but the umbilical cord was blocking the view anyway. My DH shed a tear when we first saw the baby. It was so nice to have good news! Then after the scan we had an appointment with my Doctor who was very positive. I was a bit worried about my weight gain. I have put on about 4 kilos since getting pregnant. I had a low BMI before anyway so she said not to worry about it, that I am now a perfect weight for pregnancy. She said on average women put on 12 kilos (25lbs) throughout the pregnancy. She said the main think now is to concentrate on eating plenty of nutritious food. Good carbs (wholegrain etc), fruit & veg, plenty of calcium (equivalent of 1.5 pints of milk a day), iron (a portion of red meat a day!). She said if I eat well there is no need for extra vitaimins but I think I will take pregnacare and she said there is no harm in that. I haven't been too good at eating oily fish either so she suggested taking and omega 3+9 supplement. My main aim now that the ms has subsided a lot is to try and eat really healthily and exercise and give this baby the best chance possible at being healthy! I'm very relieved and happy today and delighted to finally be able to go public with the news! My belly wasn't making it easy to keep it a secret

sagitta · 04/10/2007 10:58

Hi everyone. Soph73 - so glad you decided to stay around. I'm right at the end of April too - and haven't had a scan yet, so maybe joining you at the bottom of the board!

Not feling pregnant at all at the moment - not miserable, or tired, or hungry, but definitely fatter (I think that might be a problem I'm having with cheese and onion pasties though...

Can I ask advice? I am meant to be going to India for work in january - but my dad is worried about long flights and thrombosis... should I worry too? Should I go? (I need to book it and organise childcare)

Thanks!

Mollyfloss · 04/10/2007 10:58

Oh and another thing. I asked my Doctor is there is anything that can be done to avoid getting stretch marks. She said she would be a billionaire if she had the solution, that if you are going to get them unfortunately there is not much you can do. Of course it doesn no harm to try. I've heard that Vitamin E oil helps so I think I might give it a try anyway.

Daftmoo · 04/10/2007 11:01

Awww that's a lovely post Mollyfloss and good to hear what your doc said about the weight gain, very reassuring as I cant believe much my gp says. Glad your scan was ok...my dp came over all emotional on tues when I had my scan too, was nice to see because for years I've thought he was a robot

Daftmoo · 04/10/2007 11:03

Sagitta - From memory I dont think it's recommended that you fly during the last trimester. Glad you're feeling better hun, we're all getting fatter

TheMaskedPosTERROR · 04/10/2007 11:06

Hello all

Good news MollyFloss, Daftmoo and everyone else.

It is a lovely time to see the beanies and have that knowledge that there is a little life growing inside you.

Speaking of which I have been a lot less tearful of late and a lot more euphoric. It happens everytime I feel a twinge (prob wind, but have convinced myself it is little beanie doing a jig) like when I am driving the car, or shopping in sainsburys - it gives me such a surge of joy I could almost kiss the poor unsuspecting person next to me (lucky dd was there this morning and was showered with kisses and praises!!)

Anyone else feeling like this??

I have been thinking about taking some of those pregnacare things or omega 3 things too ... which are the best? Any recommendations?

Oh and Daftmoo - that was ever so sweet about your ds!! What a little love

xx

Mollyfloss · 04/10/2007 11:14

Sagitta - I think you can fly up to 34 weeks but the flight to India is a good 12 hours. I have a friend who flew all over Asia (including India) at 5 and 6 months. I thought she was crazy to be honest. You need shots to go to India so if you haven't already had them I'm not sure if you can get them while you're pregnant. The other issue is that us Europeans can get an upset stomach so easily from the food and water there even if you're really careful and that would not be great while you're pregant. Also, in case you need any medical care while there you would want to check out in advance for a good Doctor or hospital near where you'll be. All in all I would say, unless you absoloutely have to go it's better not to. Of course I'm no expert so you would want to talk about it with your Doctor.

lemonaid · 04/10/2007 11:18

sagitta - There was a chance of my going to India some time in the next month or so so I asked my midwife. She said that personally she doesn't recommend it if you have a real choice of whether to go or not, because every pregnant woman she's looked after who's gone to India on business has come back with a stomach bug that it's taken them a few weeks to shake off -- no lasting harm done in any of those case but it's not very pleasant. You're just more prone to getting stomach upsets when pregnant.

I wouldn't worry about the flight, personally, but how would that time and the area you're going to be for malaria and other things? There are anti-malaria drugs you can take when pregnant, but they are one of the older type and immunity to them is on the increase (plus they are the ones I took eight years ago, and you need to be REALLY careful not to take them on an empty stomach). If you are in a city in a swish hotel you probably wouldn't need to worry about the other jabs (and if you go regularly you may well be up to date anyway).

Just extra stuff for you to stress about...

Maybe you can get a risk assessment for work that says you should only fly first class after 5 months or so...?

sagitta · 04/10/2007 11:42

Thanks lemonaid and mollyfloss. I like the idea of going first class...!
I have all the right jabs, and wouldn't need malaria pills. I used to live in India, so I may have built up some long term resistance to bugs (I don't know if it works like that though, and I haven't been in a couple of years). The real problem is that its a new job, I have already had to back out of a trip a few days beforehand only three weeks into the job. And I haven't told them I'm pregnant, and wasn't planning to for a while... it's a bit of a pickle.

lemonaid · 04/10/2007 11:51

If it's not in a heavily malarial area then I would probably go, then.

Mollyfloss · 04/10/2007 12:14

If you've lived in India you would probably be a lot less susceptible to catching the stomach bugs than the rest of us anyway. Still, can you wait until you're ready to announce you're pregnant and talk about it with your boss then? I can imagine it's hard if it's a new job. I guess they already won't be that chuffed that you will be taking maternity leave so soon....

Soph73 · 04/10/2007 13:32

themaskedposterror - great halloween name btw Yep, I feel like that too although, like you say, it´s probably wind
sagitta - if Dr´s say OK & work still wants to send you enjoy it while you can
mollyfloss - aaahhhhhh {{big hugs}} that´s great

mrsgaskell · 04/10/2007 14:48

I had a lovely scan yesterday. Had just had a coffee so the baby was going nuts, jumping about. Felt such love this time. With dd the first time, I felt really mixed up by seeing this alien creature but yesterday was great. Didn't have CVS in the end as the nuchal results were quite convincing.

Re India: I went at 17weeks with first pregnancy and was fine. We stayed at lux hotels, though, and I only ate vegetarian food and was fine. Took loads of dioralyte sachets in case. You just need to check that the vaccinations are ok.

Re stretch marks: I swear that Palmers Cocoa butter - the v greasy, vaseliney one in a tub, around £1.99 - saved my skin last time. I did twice a day every day.

Soph73 · 04/10/2007 15:14

mrsgaskell - aaahh that´s lovely I was over the moon when I saw beanie on Monday - mainly because I was convinced I was just suffering from a bad case of wind Was and still am loved up - was in shock that we´d managed it with DS although loved up as well.

Soph73 · 04/10/2007 15:15

It´s DS birthday tomorrow so have to dash around like a mad thing tonight getting cake to take to school for his class and his pressie - so disorganised, bad mummy Then have to spend the whole week cooking for the people that are coming over on Sunday. Have to come back to work for a rest

Soph73 · 04/10/2007 15:24

I meant weekend obviously Also {{winge mode kicks in}} there´s a severe shortage of decent maternity clothes over here at the moment so am really miffed now .... and no secret stash of choccie to calm me down - may have to have a discreet sob in the ladies in a minute

EllieG · 04/10/2007 15:50

Oh soph I don't know what is sadder, no clothes or no chocolate. Have a nice cup of tea and a sit down poor lady and cut corners where you can for the party x
