Not long to go now! How's everyone holding up?

HairsprayBabe · 16/05/2020 09:19

Less than 10 weeks now for me until term 😬😬😬

When is everyone starting May leave? I'm starting mine on my due date BUT having 2 weeks AL in front of it so my last day will be the 9th of July.

I would have had more time off "before" but I don't see any point considering A) I WFH anyway so can just roll out of bed to my desk 😂 and B) we can't bloody go anywhere so it's not like I can pop to coffee shops and enjoy my last bit of freedom without baby.

We still haven't moved house 😣 and I am increasing concerned that we won't be able to until baby arrives at this rate. Me and DH have been approved for the mortgage but the property hasn't been valued by the lender so we are in total limbo basically.

Loads of my baby stuff is still at my mum's including my travel system that I wanted to have a play with to work out how to use before baby arrives...

I miss my family loads now, everyone is super excited but I don't feel it at all I feel so separated from everything.

Finally - friend of my aunty gave me her 2nd hand sleepyhead baby nest thing, I know they are no good for sleeping but do they have any other use? I know they are expensive as buggery so if I can use it for something then I will.

amysara24 · 16/05/2020 09:46

@hairspraybabe that’s frustrating about your house move, hopefully things get going soon for you so you can be in before baby!
I’m a teacher so we finish for summer 26th June anyway which works out quite well with my due date! I considered finishing up sooner but as we’re teaching from home I’m not having a 90min each way commute, so am managing fine!
Yup less than 10 weeks here too - how quick has the time gone!! I had to have a scan through the week after a night in hospital (though everything was ok in the end!) and baby was measuring at 3lb 15oz 😅 in the 95th centile! Though if I follow the pattern in my family, they think I’ll go 2 weeks early which might explain it.. I know a few of you ladies have been having growth scans, have you been given an idea of weight?
I’m definitely missing family now - mine are all still in Northern Ireland and I’m in Scotland so they’ve never actually seen me pregnant which is a bit sad, but I’m just hoping they will be able to come and visit when baby is here 🤞🏽
I hope everyone is keeping well, it won’t be long until we’re starting to update each other on arrivals! How exciting!!

Just over 9 weeks to go now - I hope it goes quickly!
I’m finishing work on the 30th June - using annual leave for a few days and maternity leave starts 5th July. I can not wait! I’m really struggling with working from home and having 4 kids home, 2 of whom need lots of help with school work. I’m working next week then I have a weeks annual leave and then I’m only working 2 days per week until I go on maternity.
My growth scans were cancelled but I did have one last week after a bleed and a visit to the PAU. Baby was measuring just over 3lb at 30 weeks.

LittleMrsMama · 16/05/2020 23:36

Sorry to hear about the delayed house move @hairspraybabe. Sadly I don't think you'd realistically move in time with the house still needing to be valued as them needs to go to the underwriters. I can't imagine lots of people being happy to value houses at the moment either. Maybe it's worth putting a back up plan into action and collecting the baby bits from your mums house and start nesting in your current home? Not ideal at all and sorry if this sounds negative!

I'm working right up until my due date. I'd work beyond it if I was allowed to as completely agree with @hairspraybabe that I have nothing else to do and can't go out and enjoy the time off. I'd much rather save the time and take it when the baby is here or have the extra money. With kids already and a hectic home life I can see why you'd want to go off sooner though @ethallsmum!

I really feel for you @amysara with your family not seeing bump. Especially assuming it's your first?!pregnancy is meant to be amazing and a special time where people make a fuss and feel the baby kick etc and I'm so sad for all of us that it's not been like it at all.

I'm also sad not to have had a baby shower. Not because of the gifts but just all my lovely friends and family around me to celebrate something so special. It doesn't feel the same when someone suggests holding one when the baby's here or making an extra fuss for baby #2 in the future. I know they're trying to be nice though!

LucyLucyT · 17/05/2020 09:23

I'll be 32 weeks tomorrow and I've got another growth scan so will update about the weight. Think at 28 weeks it was 2lbs 9oz.

@amysara24 I know how you feel, this is my first pregnancy and it's been a long time coming, I'm sad that I don't get to share it more with my family, I'm sad that I can't go out much to look for nice things as well.

Starting to feel a bit nervous about birth which I guess it's normal. Started an online Antenatal group this week which I'm hoping will help me feel more prepared.

I've actually decided to take mat leave 3 weeks in advance of my due date, even though I'm working from home, I'm finding it uncomfortable sitting at the desk in meeting after meeting and then telephone clinics with patients. I just want some time (hopefully!) beforehand for me to do some final nesting. I'm taking a full year of leave and will be able to take annual leave rolled over when I'm due back next June. We've worked it so that my partner can be off for a month at the start as well as I'm sharing a bit of leave with him.

We've nearly finished painting our nursery which is nice, hopefully start putting all the bits and pieces back in there soon :-)

amysara24 · 17/05/2020 10:29

I’m glad I’m not the only one feeling a bit like this - thanks for the reassurance 💗 first baby for me and first grandchild on both sides, it’s a shame not to be able to celebrate it more. My mum was there through all the fertility woes & treatment so I think she’s sad to be missing the happiness that’s come from it! That all said, I don’t feel bitter because I completely understand the reason things have to be this way, and it could be much worse, as it has been for many people.
These maternity leave dates are getting so close! @Ethellsmum my god I don’t blame you for taking some time, what a busy house you must have at the minute!
Actually @lucylucyt that’s something I was wondering about, how are all your partners working leave? I didn’t really think about it before but my cousin had her little one but her partner got 2 weeks leave then had to go back! DH gets 4 weeks and has taken a week of AL first too, his work are being great about it but I know it can vary so much for partners!

OP posts:
HairsprayBabe · 17/05/2020 11:37

My DH gets no paid paternity sadly as he is an agency worker so technically gets a new contract every 12 weeks it's absolutely crap. He is planning on taking a weeks AL but is WFH anyway 🤷 so will be in the house if I am desperately in need of help!

I was thinking that too @LittleMrsMama DH is being much more optimistic and is rattling on like we will be moving first week of July 🤷 that would be great and everything I just don't see it happening at all!

I feel the same way @amysara24 I am really fed up at the moment had a proper cry about how pants everything is at the moment last night. Lovely DH brought me crumpets and tea in bed to cheer me up and I just cried more 😭

Missdrifter · 26/05/2020 18:24

Hi ladies. How is everyone? Not long now for us all. My 32 week growth scan showed baby to be bigger than average and estimated weight is 4lb 8!
Just wondering what everyone is doing in regards to sleeping: next to me/Moses basket etc? I was thinking along a next to me crib but there is so much variety and I don’t know where to start xx

Ethellsmum · 26/05/2020 18:34

We have a Moses basket for downstairs and a babylo cozi sleeper for upstairs.

Missdrifter · 26/05/2020 19:26

@ethellsmum thank you. That’s a good idea 👍🏼

amysara24 · 26/05/2020 19:31

@Missdrifter I’ve been trying to read up on estimated weights and there’s so much info out there and it’s so varied - overloaded myself! We’ve got a snuzpod for upstairs and a little gliding crib for downstairs.
@HairsprayBabe ahh I see, that’s crap but I suppose it means he can take whatever time he wants to before going back? Trying to be positive! Bless him trying to cheer you up though! I’ve been a bit wobbly again this week just with the uncertainty of whether I’ll have to go back into work rather than wfh. I’ve not been missing the commute - about an hour each way!
I hope everyone is keeping ok and all appointments are on track with everything going on!

OP posts:
Missdrifter · 26/05/2020 22:59

Thanks @amysara24 I have heard lots of good reviews regarding snuzpod! Is there a possibility you might have to go back to work before the baby arrives? That would make me feel very anxious too, hope it all works out for you x

LittleMrsMama · 26/05/2020 23:38

@Missdrifter I hope things are okay and the baby's growth slows down a little soon! Is it normal to have a growth scan at 32 weeks? I've had so many cancelled and missed appointments (even before covid) I never know what the hospital has messed up these days!

I'm going to have the baby in a Chicco next to me and then downstairs in a bouncer or in the Icandy bassinet. Apparently babies can sleep in there so just figured it saves buying a Moses basket too!

How's everyone doing? I'm still feeling anxious about the restrictions at my hospital (although completely get that they're there for mine and the baby's safety!) What are our lockdown predictions by July? Anyone else feeling a bit nervous about having friends and family holding the baby even if the government says it's okay?

Missdrifter · 26/05/2020 23:56

@LittleMrsMama thank you, I was quite surprised by the measurements actually because my bump measurement is a couple of weeks behind but all within normal range albeit the upper end of normal ha. I don’t think it’s standard to have a 32 week scan, I have been having extra growth scans because of my low Papp-A. Sorry to hear you have had cancelled appointments, that must be disappointing.

I am worried too about having friends and extended family possibly close to baby even if the restrictions are eased by then. I think we are still going to be extra cautious for a while and don’t plan on going to any busy places (even if allowed to) hopefully weather will continue to be as nice and then we will likely invite people over in to the garden to meet baby xx

LittleMrsMama · 27/05/2020 22:46

Thanks @Missdrifter that's helpful to know! I hope you have a smooth rest of your pregnancy and all goes well with the baby!

I'm feeling exactly the same with going out and visitors. I'm already worried because we have some family members who have bought anti body tests, including my very pushy aunt who is desperate to feel the baby kick and will be very full on when the baby arrives. She's already said she's hoping it comes back that she has the anti bodies so she doesn't have to socially distance around me anymore... and that's the reason she got the test. The research doesn't prove that people can't get it again or that they can't carry it on their clothes etc still so I'm really worried. But even if the science backed it up I would still be cautious but she doesn't get it. Just keeping my fingers crossed the results come back and she doesn't have the antibodies!

Ethellsmum · 27/05/2020 23:14

@LittleMrsMama we’ve just had an email about the antibody test at work saying that even it it shows as positive we are still to follow all guidelines/social distance etc as there just isn’t enough science behind it all yet - antibodies don’t mean you won’t get it again like you say.

LucyLucyT · 27/05/2020 23:58

Hi all,
I had a 32 week growth scan last week @Missdrifter and I think my projected weight was about the same and that came up as 38th percentile for me, try not to worry.

We have a Chicco next to me crib that my sister passed on, also got a Mokee Woolnest Moses basket for downstairs which was a gift from my partner's Dad and step-mum. My colleagues have given us a baby rocker as well.

Took delivery of our travel system earlier this week, glad to have it ready to go, quite pleased with it overall, went for Joie Chrome DLX. Just waiting for the car seat base which is delayed but we can use the seat with just the belt if needed.

I'm already booked in for an induction on my due date (13th July)! Bit strange to have it planned already but where I am they don't like you going overdue if you've had fertility treatment. I'm partly hoping I go into natural labour a day or two before but what will be will be.

With regards Covid restrictions it's a difficult one for us as my partner has to shield until at least 30th June, but we've decided he will come to the birth and wear PPE, plus I expect staff will still be wearing it then. I'm considering seeing my parents in a park at a distance at the weekend, I know my Mum desperately wants to see me with my bump.... Ideally she'd like to get her hands on it (retired midwife!) but sadly can't really do that.
I think it'll be good having the first couple of weeks without visitors in a way but would love it if I could have my close family there, but with my partner, even if other restrictions lifted, we're a bit stuck!

Missdrifter · 28/05/2020 08:32

@lucylucyT 38th percentile sounds like a healthy and ideal weight 😀! I just noticed that when measuring each part of the baby it measured more than a week ahead but I suppose that’s all within normal range. I don’t always trust the measurements anyway, as apparently my babies legs have grown 7 weeks in a matter of 4 but I have been told not to take too much notice of the femur measurements at this stage. I am just pleased baby is growing how she should 😃. I feel really fortunate to have got this far. Sounds as though you have been productive and have things all in order. We need to order our car seat still. Seeing your mum in a park will be lovely and means you are still able to all keep safe.

@LittleMrsMama in a way it must be nice to have family who are trying to take all precautions that they deem necessary to safely see your baby but I totally understand where you come from and it does make it a bit awkward. At least if she doesn’t have the antibodies it will make it a lot easier for you. I can’t believe we are now all talking about when our babies are here, time is certainly going so much quicker now 😃 xxx

HairsprayBabe · 30/05/2020 15:03

I'm on the 97th centile...

I don't think I look big at all though and I have only gained 20lbs so far...

We got our mortgage offer through on Friday - although stupid nationwide didn't add on what we asked them to for conveyancing fees Angry so we will have to go back to them to ask for more or work out how we can pay them independent of the mortgage...

LucyLucyT · 30/05/2020 15:47

You don't look big at all @HairsprayBabe I'm far far more rotund but I was still overweight before pregnancy, despite 4.5 stone weight loss and had loose skin so that might be why!
I guess you are just all baby in there which is why 97% percentile. Don't worry I think the measurements can be a bit hit and miss.

Mortgages are no fun to organise, our fixed deal comes to an end in October so will need to think about changing to a new one in a few months.

HairsprayBabe · 30/05/2020 16:09

I lost 6st about 3 years ago so I have been really careful about not eating for two this pregnancy 😬

Baby is super high I can't sit down for any long amount of time because I can't breathe properly and my ribs are so uncomfortable

Conveyancing is supposed to cost us about £1500 so I am hopeful that they will just let us adjust what we have applied for

LucyLucyT · 02/06/2020 12:45

Wow 6st is great! From your pic you don't have loose skin, but you might be a bit younger than me, I left it too long to lose my weight. My bump looks low but that is my old "tyre" sitting underneath I think! Baby seems fairly high. I have been trying not to eat for two but will definitely have a good bit of weight to lose after this. Got my midwife appt this PM, a face to face one, will see what that brings :-)

What are people planning on wearing for labour? I don't have nighties normally but not sure if I'll be wanting to strip down completely!

amysara24 · 02/06/2020 13:19

@HairsprayBabe wow that’s amazing, well done you!!
@LucyLucyT I got a couple of massive baggy nighties that come to just above the knee, and I reckon I’ll take them. Got them in Tesco (they came in a wee bag!) and were only £2.50 in their sale the other week so I can bin them after it needs be!
Have a scan tomorrow to check position of my placenta - hoping it’s moved up so I don’t need a section 🤞🏽
Also on mortgages - funny our fixed rate period just ended so we’ve had all those fun phone calls recently too! Not a bad time with the base rate being so low I suppose.

HairsprayBabe · 02/06/2020 22:34

Thanks 😊 there was an amazing weightloss thread I used to be part of on here at the time I don't think I could have done it without them, I'm 28 now so started to lose the weight when I was 24ish I had been small as a teen but got a job in a restaurant when I left uni and the free meals really did a number on me 😬

I am hoping desperately to be in water for birth so I just want a black bralette type thing mainly because I don't want my boobs getting
