@tinatsarina the congrats was for you, don't know what happened the tag!

@lovesT you say exactly what I thought! In my area they only let you go 6-10 days past your due date but she's been talking about induction since my 37 week appointment despite there being no complications. She also just keeps saying I'm having "a really big baby" - it's tracking just over 8lbs for 40 weeks which I really don't think is that big?? Thankfully I don't have to see her again, have an appointment at the hospital on Friday (due date) where they'll book an induction date for me. Depending how I feel then I might get them to push it as far as they'll let me, just feel like having a deadline imposed isn't going to help matters! DH is furious that I was so upset after the appointment and he is firmly on my side so at least I won't be fighting by myself if it comes to it!

@Dweebette that sounds like they're being really silly! It's so annoying how midwife care differs so much depending on location and just who you get as a midwife. I got annoyed when the midwives would say that 42 weeks is still within a normal time to give birth because I didn't want to wait that long 😅 but it's true, our due dates are just estimates and baby will come when ready. I can understand why midwife is worried about 8lb baby at 40 weeks. My little girl was 8lb 4oz at 40+1 when she was born and all was okay! I did it on tens machine, paracetamol and gas and air (and was in a pool), I also practiced hypnobirthing as much as I could. Try not to let them stress you out as that won't help with bringing in labour, just be as strong as you can as long as there are no complications and go for the birth you want 😊 are you doing a hypnobirthing course? Which one? Great that your husband is on your side 😊 I had no signs of labour until the morning contractions started so don't loose hope that it will happen spontaneously x

Soda123x · 24/02/2020 21:18

Awww @Dweebette sorry to hear you were disappointed with your midwife appt. Hopefully things will start naturally for you soon. Big hugs xx

Dweebette · 24/02/2020 21:24

@lovesT I did the positive birth company digital course (there were no courses in my area) and thought it was amazing. I'm practising every day so hopefully it'll stick when the time comes!

Thank you for the kind messages, reading them and having a long bath with some relaxation practice helped and I feel much better. Also finally managed to express some colostrum so feeling pretty good right now!

lovesT · 25/02/2020 08:41

@Dweebette oh yes I did that one, although I should have started it sooner as I didn't finish it! But found the breathing helpful so that's good. Glad you're feeling better 😊 hope you can relax as much as possible and have you time, it can only help with bringing on labour x

doublebarrellednurse · 26/02/2020 16:22

Hey all congratulations on all the babies born, I've barely been on at all since Ivy was born! Hope everyone is doing well.

Soda123x · 26/02/2020 18:51

Hey guys, I went to the midwife this morning for routine appt. My BP was high and traces of protein in my urine showing signs of pre-eclampsia. I was sent upto the hospital for monitoring. They tested my BP 5x which stayed slightly high but then urine and bloods came back normal so have been sent home and given an appt to go back Friday for examining with a view to induce as ita my due date. Arrgghh exciting!! xx

Dweebette · 27/02/2020 07:34

@soda123x that is exciting! How are you feeling? I'm also due tomorrow and feeling a bit under the weather, likely due to lack of sleep as I'm in too much pain to lie down for more than 3 hours. Have an appointment in the morning too to get induction days booked

Soda123x · 27/02/2020 08:13

Morning @dweebette :)
I feel fine. Still no signs of babba coming naturally so I am totally prepared now that when I go tomorrow they'll start me off. I am abit nervous about having an induction as I would have preferred starting naturally as i've heard induction contractions can be more painful as pretty much forced rather than gradually build if that makes sense. I am open to having pain relief though if needed so will just have to go with the flow and see what happens.
And hormones did take over a little lastnight I had a little weep that my baby may not but is probably going to come on Saturday and be a leap year baby and it wont "have a proper bday" but my husband has reassured me if it does it's more of a "special bday" and no matter what date it comes it will deffo have a fuss made of it every year xx

Soda123x · 27/02/2020 08:14

Aww its rubbish you cant lie down for too long and not getting much sleep. Try and get lots of little naps in if possible xx

LolaLollypop · 27/02/2020 08:54

@soda123x I remember a child in school having a birthday on 29 Feb and everyone thought it was very cool! He used to always inform us "I'm actually only 3yrs old" when we were 12 etc. It's a fun fact to have rather than anything your baby will miss out on, don't worry Wink

Hope the remaining babies come soon! My LO is now 10 days old. We're slowly coming out of the first week madness of no sleep, jaundice, high blood pressure (me) and sore stitches Blush

Baby Oliver has gained over 8oz already since birth so he is doing really well.

lovesT · 27/02/2020 23:57

@LolaLollypop my LO us 12 days old now and feeling so much better but that area is sore for me too ☹️ stitches feel way better but I seem to get sore later in the day, just generally achy ... hope you are recovering well.

My little girl is cluster feeding like crazy tonight 😫 anyone else? ... she feeds then comes off herself and falls asleep and I try and put her down then she wakes up again hardly any time later needing a feed ... I'm so tired 😴 but I know it's normal .. just trying to get though the nights! She sleeps so much better in the day but that seems to be normal for newborns?

Soda123x · 28/02/2020 05:45

@Dweebette happy due date !! Xx

LolaLollypop · 28/02/2020 14:28

@lovesT I'm also really achey as the day goes on, especially my back, I must try and BF with better posture as I'm sure I'm hunching over too much Hmm

I feed baby as much as I can in the evening and I've started expressing a bottle for DH to give to baby around 11pm/midnight and I find that really helps with the overnight cluster feeding. It means baby goes to bed with a full tummy and then he's waking every 3hrs after that for more. The only thing I have found is that by the 2am/3am feed I'm really engorged so I have to pump off a bit before feeding as otherwise my LO chokes and struggles. So it's a bit of a faff and my DH has been on the sofa Grin but essentially I'm able to sleep from 10pm-2am, feeding til 3am, sleep again til 5am and then maybe catch another hour sleep 6-7am ish.

It seems to be working for us but every baby is different! I do find that a full belly before bed really helps with cluster feeding though.

LolaLollypop · 28/02/2020 14:30

Oh I also try and keep baby awake so he gets a good feed when he does wake in the night. I.e from 2-3am I'll let him feed, if he falls asleep I'll change nappy, sometimes clothes, feed again. If he falls back asleep I'll put him down, get a drink/go to toilet myself.. by the time I'm back he's stirring again for more.

Again.. It's a faff but it means you're not falling back to sleep only to have baby wake again 5min later.

All a faff really til they get bigger!!

hazandduck · 28/02/2020 20:44

@lovesT yes to the cluster feeds overnight! One night it was 3 hours of her pretty much constantly feeding and I am scaring myself nodding off with her but it is so hard to stay awake and she just wakes up as soon as I put her in the cot 😩. With my first daughter I would get out of bed for each feed and make myself stay awake, this time round I am so exhausted, I think because I have the 2 year old to chase round from half 6 each morning! Although oddly the wake ups don’t feel as much of a shock.

DH is still giving one bottle of formula in one of the night feeds to help me out and I am kind of tempted to start giving a bottle too for the second night feed just so I can actually stay awake for the feed. Then put her on back boob for the 5-6am feed and during the day. A jagged sort of pattern is emerging - Cleo tends to sleep in 2-3 hour stints now between feeds.

Soda and Dweebette I hope you aren’t waiting much longer!! It feels like a lifetime ago that I was so uncomfortable at the end of pregnancy, time just flies once the baby is here!

Sorry have been a bit rubbish on here. Cleo will be a month old on Tuesday - HOW?! X

hazandduck · 28/02/2020 20:45

Oh and the last week or so she has been struggling with trapped wind which makes her lift her legs up and roll on her side! I have to sleep with my hand holding down her legs pretty much! Any tips? She is a bit too small for the sleeping bags at the moment x

Dweebette · 28/02/2020 22:43

@soda123x happy due date to you too! I hope all is well with your induction.

As expected, it has passed without any change for me but I'm feeling good after my appointment this morning with provisional induction date booked for far enough away that I don't feel stressed out by the deadline, just going to enjoy the last days of this pregnancy. Gave in and took paracetamol this evening for some relief on my hip and it's the best, actually feel like I might get some sleep!

All you cluster feeding mamas are amazing 🤩

OP posts:
lovesT · 28/02/2020 22:58

@hazandduck yes sounds exactly the same! Apart from I don't have a two year old to look after! Last night was about 4 hours and I just couldn't stay awake but she finally fell asleep after husband took her to burp her and I went to bed. Otherwise she usually sleeps for a couple of hours between feeds, it's just between 9pm and 1am at the moment that she seems to want feeding all the time! She has also has trapped wind so we have been holding her up for longer after feeds and just today started giving her Infacol which the health visitor said might help. It's horrible to see her uncomfortable with trapped wind so thought we'd give it a go. Have you tried that?

I hope to eventually express milk and she can have bottle too so it's not all on me to seed her but will wait a couple more weeks to avoid nipple confusion .. I think that's what's recommended? Need to buy the bottles too!

Thinking of the ladies still waiting for their babies! Can't believe little Lily will be 2 weeks tomorrow .. it does fly by!

sulkysukey · 29/02/2020 03:21

Same here on the cluster feeding but mine is more during the day. My boobs felt totally empty by about 7pm last night and I was wondering if she was actually getting anything...?!

Just wondering how everyone's babies nap during the day? I feel like when she's on/near me she wants to be on the boobs ALL the time so is awake and lip smacking, but when I try and put her somewhere to sleep she wakes up too...! So I'm sure she's not sleeping as much as she should.

She seems to sleep better at night tho - she did about 8.30pm-2am tonight (but sleeping on my DH downstairs - need to try and get her in the crib!). I feel like lots of it is to do with how bad the trapped wind/straining is - 2 days ago it literally felt like she was up all day and night straining and farting... 💨

hazandduck · 29/02/2020 12:44

Oh no I’ve not tried Infacol! We used gripe water with our older DD and it really helped, however the box says to only use it from 1 month. From Tuesday I am going to start her on that definitely! Poor little mite is really squirming sometimes with the trapped wind. It’s horrible isn’t it?

She actually slept better last night - fed her at about 11 and got her in her cot just before 12, and she didn’t wake until half 2 for the next feed and again at 5. If I think of it as just 2 wake ups really it’s not too bad! Never mind that the toddler woke up at 4 and ended up in our bed 🙈🤣

Sulky that sounds amazing about the night time sleeps. I think they all just have their own patterns and it is a good thing your Dd already seems to know the difference between night and day. Clever girl!

We are all full of cold :( poor Cleo is so snuffly, I’m hoping she gets a load of antibodies from my milk ASAP! X

lovesT · 29/02/2020 12:57

@sulkysukey My little girl sleeps quite well in the day as long as she's fed. If not she'll be awake and searching for booby but once she's full she'll usually nap, especially when she's on on of us (she loves snuggles!) I find my Boba wrap really good because she will nap in that for ages because she's close to me. She is awake a lot more at the moment though and a lot more alert so I'm sure that will change soon!

@hazandduck yeah infacol is is fine from birth unlike gripe water so give it a go! We picked it up in Boots but can get it in supermarket 😊

I'm un quite late with feeds at the lament and then awake maybe 2 or three times after midnight feeding and then husband takes her to burp her because we've found she needs to be held up right for a long time but I think she's getting better. We started her on infacol yesterday, apparently it can take a few days for work but really hoping it helps with that uncomfortable wind. It's horrible to see her uncomfortable.

I don't know how many tops I've been through either because of leaky boobs or baby being sick on me! Snuggles are lovely though 🥰

hazandduck · 02/03/2020 02:59

So we are now in March, I am assuming no leap year babies were born on Saturday?

Hope everyone is well!

Dweebette · 02/03/2020 04:52

No leap year baby here but I have been getting contractions since half 9 on Sunday morning. They were very sporadic throughout Sunday but overnight have ramped up and are coming every 15-30 minutes now. Trying not to get too excited as I know it could all stop but you know what it's like! Managed to sleep between them until about 3 this morning, now I'm up and just had breakfast to try and make sure I don't run out of energy. Long day ahead for me i reckon!
