BelliniButterfly · 29/12/2019 20:28

I've searched for due date thread and couldn't find one so thought I would start a new one!

I'm 4+6 and due at the very beginning of September. I have a 3 year old and a 1 year old so my hands are going to be very full lol!

"Is anyone else just waiting for the NHS ones?"

Me. Saving my money for house renovations and probably a doula for the birth, too. No idea how much that'll cost but I'm guessing it's expensive.

MrsForsyth · 01/01/2020 14:48

I'm tempted by an early scan as it put my mind at ease the last time but that was 4 years ago and they've gone up in price so we will need to discuss and see.

I really want one though.

xiaomao · 01/01/2020 14:55

Congrats everyone!! Got my BFP yesterday, last period puts me at 4 + 5 today, first baby. Doesn't seem real yet! I'm absolutely exhausted and have a banging headache but that seems to be pretty normal from what I've read.

Bathwater · 01/01/2020 15:28

@TtcanotherG pretty much same thing happened with me. Not something I want to repeat, but not sure how I would be if found out at 12 weeks either. Then like @MrsForsyth I would like one. Got plenty of time to think i guess!

@NameChange30 we just bought a house that needs work and that’s what I always think is it 50/70 that could go towards something like the new kitchen or new carpet! Is a doula quite common in your area?

Congratulations @xiaomao i have had no symptoms except starting to feel tired haha. So I wouldn’t even know had I not been trying!

xiaomao · 01/01/2020 15:39

Hey can I ask, is it ok to just do the self referral online to the midwife without having a doctor's appointment?

NameChange30 · 01/01/2020 15:40

Bathwater

Congrats on your new house! What work needs doing? We are reorganising the whole ground floor and most probably doing an extension so we will move out while the work is being done. We also want to redo our bathroom. I'm equally excited and dreading the stress! It will be great to get it all sorted though.

There are several doulas in my area so people must use them! I live in a city which has a decent amount of middle class lefty types who are likely to use one Grin When I was pregnant with DS I did an antenatal course which was run by a doula and there was another doula attending with her client. I also know a couple of other doulas through various channels (through yoga, friends, neighbours). I didn't use a doula first time around but my birth experience was negative (and quite a few other mothers I spoke to had negative experiences) so I want a doula this time around to support me and help to advocate for me.

I don't want to scare anyone though, I know there are plenty of mothers who have positive birth experiences, without a doula.

NameChange30 · 01/01/2020 15:42

Xiaomao
AFAIK you don't need to make a doctor's appointment, you just book with the midwife.
I wasn't able to self-refer online but I called my GP surgery and the receptionist made the midwife appointment for me.
I don't think there's any need to see a GP unless you have other health concerns.

HugeAgeGap · 01/01/2020 15:46

Hi all,

Very very early days here, think still only 11dpo, but clear positive on IC and FRER.

Think my dates are pretty accurate so plugged it into google and come out as 13 Sept due date.

I will be waiting for normal NHS scam at 12weeks as long as all the symptoms continue on as normal until that time. So play it by ear!

Good luck to everyone here, I still don't believe it and still don't feel hopeful this will work :-)

HugeAgeGap · 01/01/2020 15:47

@ sunshinexx95

HugeAgeGap · 01/01/2020 15:48

@Sunshinexx95
Sorry, not good at this, hope this works!

MrsForsyth · 01/01/2020 16:13

@NameChange30

I've not called my GP yet. But I always thought I seen my GP as there is no option for self referral in my area.

What details did the receptionist take?

xiaomao · 01/01/2020 16:14

@NameChange30 thanks lovely, that's what I thought but can't seem to find a clear answer online.

Feel like I've done so much reading in the past couple of months whilst TTC but still after getting the BFP yesterday I googled 'what to do when you find out you're pregnant' haha!!

temogemo · 01/01/2020 16:17

I've got my BFP today, what a way to start the new year! A little in limbo currently as can't talk about it as MIL staying at ours until Friday!

September 2020?
NameChange30 · 01/01/2020 17:02

Hello and congrats to temo and anyone else who's joined since I last said it!

MrsForsyth the receptionist just asked how many weeks and then booked it in for me. She did say she couldn't book me in for a flu jab because I'm not on the system as pregnant, so I offered to come in and POAS for them, but she didn't take me up on that Grin I just got the flu jab at Tesco instead, so much easier.

Sunshinexx95 · 01/01/2020 17:22

@HugeAgeGap
Thank u so much it worked! Grin
Hi everyone,
I just found out I am 3+4 pregnant with my first. I know it is very early and my af is due in 2 days so i am very nervous. I don't want to be disappointed. I have never been pregnant before.

MrsP0109 · 01/01/2020 17:24

Happy New Year! It was a quiet one for us, a curry and monopoly! Bit different to previous years! I feel like time is going so slowly already...4wks 4d today...I have a private scan booked for the 25th which seems like a lifetime away!
No real symptoms but I have been exhausted the last week or so and today have had a few dizzy spells...is this a symptom??

BlossomGem · 01/01/2020 17:32

Hi. I found out yesterday that I’m pregnant, had iui so using that date I’m due 8th September. Nice way to start the new year! Will have a scan at the fertility clinic at 5 weeks I think, can’t wait.

Roxy8203 · 01/01/2020 18:02

I got my positive this week and am currently 4+2 due on the 7th September. This is my second pregnancy this year after a MMC in July. I'll probably have a private scan to reassure me or highlight a problem which is where it was picked up last time. Trying not to get too excited but it's hard not to think about it once you find out.
Congratulations everyone, I hope we all have healthy pregnancies and babies xx

Sipperskipper · 01/01/2020 20:24

@NameChange30 also planning on doing extension / renovation this year and will need to move out from the summer. Nuts timing but needs must!

NameChange30 · 01/01/2020 20:28

Indeed! Same here. I wanted to get the ball rolling for renovations last year but DH wasn't in the right head space, which I found frustrating at the time but got over it... now I am a bit annoyed again tbh! Not much we can do about it now apart from crack on.

Bathwater · 01/01/2020 21:53

@NameChange30 it’s more a slight rejig of the downstairs layout, heating system, new kitchen, bathroom and staircase. Nothing crazy and likely won’t be all done this year. Our last home was a mammoth and so we’re wanting a gentler renovation this time. Shouldn’t need to move out though!
I looked up we have one in my area. I think my maternity hospital would be suspicious of a doula, as it’s quite a traditional area I live in (I work shifts there sometimes). Although apparently aromatherapy is becoming a thing slowly. But I always think anything in terms of health and well-being whatever works to keep someone calm/ assured can’t do any harm! Find it so interesting how every region has slight differences in practice!

@HugeAgeGap I found out at 10dpo if my dates were right. So AF was due today but no signs at all. Just feel you give yourself to a longer secret sentence! Haha

@Roxy8203 sorry to hear about your MMC I remember describing to my sister with mine that you don’t get a full blast of happiness just apprehension initially. I probably talk more about it here than anywhere else just so I can see others positivity :)

Congratulations to everyone again!

Roxy8203 · 01/01/2020 22:07

@bathwater sorry youve been through a MMC as well. Yeah last time it was much more exciting. I'm just trying to be positive and hoping for the best x

Sunshinexx95 · 01/01/2020 23:01

@HugeAgeGap
Are u going to wait for 12 weeks scan? I don't know why I want to do 8 weeks scan. I thought just In case for reassurance. But maybe I should wait... ConfusedWink

Sipperskipper · 02/01/2020 07:22

@NameChange30 would you try hypnobirthing? I did it with DD and it was fantastic. Even though birth went a bit haywire, I still feel really positive about it all, and I really think the hypnobirthing helped.

NameChange30 · 02/01/2020 08:07

I did hypnobirthing in my first pregnancy, and while it helped me to feel calm and positive in the run up to the birth, it didn't make a difference to the birth itself. I think there is a danger with hypnobirthing in thinking that if only you have a positive attitude you can have a positive birth, and that you have somehow failed if you don't - but there are so many factors involved (a lot of it is luck! but it's also the quality of care you get) and it's not necessarily within the mother's control.

I would like my doula to help me use hypnobirthing techniques but also advocate for me. With her experience of births in that particular hospital she knows what can and can't be done. (She kindly did a "debrief" with me after my first birth and explained why various things happened but also what could have happened differently.)
