@rainbow1982 sorry to hear about your losses it's all personal isn't it I haven't had any losses but it's far too early for me to be thinking about decorating the nursery and buying things hopefully I will feel abit more positive after the 20 week scan and we can check all it's organs etc x

Smiffette · 20/01/2020 15:41

@mrssunshinexxx we had ours today which is why I feel like I need to get moving on the nursery! It feels like the next 20 weeks are going to creep up! 🙈 I've always had it my head I would like the nursery to be ready 6 weeks before due date so I'm not stressing!

@rainbow1982 it is hard to get excited after losses, I had 1 last year, but the reassurance I felt at the 20 weeks scan was sooo nice I feel I can really start to relax a bit now.... at least until it gets closer and the reality of giving birth kicks in!

APD1981 · 20/01/2020 15:51

@rainbow1982 we moved 7 years ago and we have a small bedroom we use as a study so baby is going in the bigger 2nd bedroom. It hasn't been decorated in 7 years and the plaster was really cracked. Plus the carpet, although new when we moved because previous owner had refurbished the house, was thin and cheap.

So we decorated after Christmas and got new carpet laid last week. We sold all the furniture we don't need now (like the super king-size bed!) and it is looking clean and fresh. Pale grey walls and white furniture and a grey carpet. Still need to get a cot, a single bed (it's a big room so we thought a bed would be useful), blackout blind and curtains. But I feel I can just get one thing a month now to spread the cost.

To everyone else who's had their scans today - it's lovely to read all your news! Congratulations! X

Twittlebee · 20/01/2020 15:55

Its hard with the nursery isnt it. I foolishly started setting one up as soon as I found out I was pregnant with DD and it was heartbreaking when we lost her. After the 20 week scan with DS I felt reassured I could start decorating and buying again but he died after he was born but we never got to bring him home to his nursery (although we were offered that by the hospice). I asked my family to remove and giveaway all our nursery furniture for DS before I returned home though as I knew I wouldnt be able to face seeing it all there set up empty.

This time we have decided that DS3 will be going into DS1's room, they can share. Therefore we wont be decorating a nursery this time. We will just buy a cotbed for DS3 when he is old enough to move in with DS1

AmyMaria2 · 20/01/2020 16:03

Congratulations @Smiffette I have to go back in 7-14 days as well! So glad all was okay😁

And congratulations @newbyxx that's lovely! Have you felt any movement since? I felt something funny earlier but I wouldn't be confident enough to say it was baby, haven't felt anything since. What did it feel like for you? xx

Rinoa · 20/01/2020 16:08

@Cb31 for some reason prams/strollers etc just confuse me lol first time for me obvs. Just checked out that Oyster 3, says suitable upto 20kg, does that mean up to 6 months or so and then what do you use? Do you have to buy another one, or just an attachment?

newbyxx · 20/01/2020 16:16

@AmyMaria2 I have felt movement since and did last night to. It's like a bubble is the only way I can explain, low down in my abdomen. I knew it was him as we seen him do big movement on the screen just as I said it. She confirmed
My anterior placenta though and said can take a few more weeks to feel harder movements from him! Xx

QforCucumber · 20/01/2020 16:20

oh @Twittlebee I'm sorry that happened, it's so shit isn't it! (no other way to describe it I've found, people tried to tip toe around my losses - I'd literally say out loud, yup it's shit)

We didn't do a nursery with DS, they don't even go in there until 6 months old anyway.

We are moving house next week and staying with FIL for a month hen moving into our new house at the end of Feb so will have enough on without a nursery to sort out :

Smiffette · 20/01/2020 16:28

@AmyMaria2 aww glad I'm not the only one! Nice we get to see our little babies again though 😍

I've still not felt anything yet even though I could see her wiggling lots in the scan, I was really concentrating but didn't feel anything!
Hopefully over the next 4 weeks I will start to!

MrssC92 · 20/01/2020 16:36

The baby will be in the room next to ours. We'll probably do bits like a paint touch up on the ceiling and skirting boards next weekend, but the new carpet is coming after our scan and we've bought some dumbo wallpaper and curtains which we'll do after too. I want to get prepared but also very nervous about the 20 week scan so it's a hard balance. At the same time, baby probably won't be in there until they're 6 months old which is still almost a year away.
I like the oyster 3 as well. It's probably a toss up between that and an egg. I'm hoping that when I go to see them and test them I'll like one more than the other. 20kg is about 3 stone so a lot older than 6 months. The seat unit can probably be used for a good couple of years.
I felt baby kick with my hands today for the first time. I've been feeling bubbles for a while and this time i put my hand there just in time to feel a kick. I started crying. Can't wait for it to be more regular and for DH to feel it too.

Zeldetta · 20/01/2020 16:56

We were working on our nursery by the time of the 20 week scan, I was getting stressed about getting the house ready so we just got on with it!

i desperately want to avoid forceps but didn't realise that was an option as I only thought they were used if there was serious risk to the baby and they needed to be out straight away?

There may be options to avoid - you could request ventouse first which is still instrumental but less damage to the mother usually. You could also request to move to a caesarean which may be possible, but I think it depends on the hospital. @hjbows88 hospital has said she can quickly move to caesarean mid birth if she wishes, which is fantastic and how it should be. However this would not be possible at mine as there is such pressure on the theatres that if they agreed in principle to move to a section, you may not be high priority depending on the reason for it. In my hospital (not sure if it’s everywhere?) there are categories of section A-D. If medically the doctors see no need for a section you are likely to have to wait behind higher priority patients and by the time your slot comes round (hours later) the labour may be too far advanced for a caesarean to be a safe option.

Zeldetta · 20/01/2020 16:58

At the same time, baby probably won't be in there until they're 6 months old which is still almost a year away

Having this argument with DH! He says we don’t need it sorted for ages but my nesting instincts are strong!

Rinoa · 20/01/2020 16:58

Oh, I see I misread the kg conversion lol oops! that's quite good. So there are no attachments it just converts from newborn to front facing? I know its best to see in person and I'll get around to that!

MissisBee · 20/01/2020 18:18

We had our nursery ready quite early with DS, maybe around 20-odd weeks.
This time, we're really not rushing. If it's anything like DS, baby will be in our room for a year anyway. DH has started doing a little bit of clearing in the spare room (it's mostly just his stuff in there). We've a single bed that we'll leave until baby is moving in there.

Zoey92 · 20/01/2020 18:54

I havent even made a start I've furniture to get rid and typical stuff under bed i forgot was there 😂
Lick of paint here & there.
Midwife sent me my MATB1, but I've not a clue what to do in regards with me being self employed ig im honest

18+1

QforCucumber · 20/01/2020 19:09

@Zoey92 are you a sole trader or ltd co?

Zoey92 · 20/01/2020 19:21

I'm a sole trader @Qforcucumber

Rinoa · 20/01/2020 19:39

we live in a small flat in the attic 1 bed so baby will have to be with us for now. I guess we will get a bedside cot since I think a full size cot bed will take up too much room! but those only last 6 months I think?
Hopefully planning to move down a floor which has 3 bedrooms, but not sure when, agh decisions!

Only prep I've done is think of a new layout in my head as to where to fit everything, and empty one of the chest of drawers to use as a changing station. Anyone use that instead of an actual changing table?

chocolate26 · 20/01/2020 20:57

Thanks to all who replied to my forceps question! I'm going to have to do a bit more research in to things 😊 I just want whatever is safest for baby. This is my first baby so I have no idea what to expect or what I would prefer or prefer not to happen. Watching one born every minute is lovely but doesn't help the anxiety 😳

We live in a over 200 year old cottage and the room we are giving baby is very old and needs so much work doing! It's a beautiful room but it will take a lot of work to get it sorted! It's just down the hall from our bedroom so we will be nice and close when they move in there. We have said we are going to start decorating after our 20 week scan on 3rd feb 😊 very exciting!

QforCucumber · 20/01/2020 21:11

@Zoey92 fab -you just need to complete an MA1 form, google that and it should link you to the online form on HMRC website - it's quite straightforward but if you want a hand dm me and I can help (easily do 1 a month for clients at work) it's just different forms for sole traders and Ltd cos :)

BabyBird20 · 20/01/2020 22:19

@Cb31 and @Rinoa we've just bought the Oyster 3 and love it! We needed one that folded up small for the boot of our car which this one does. Got the carry cot bit for newborn to 6 months then the seat is supposed to last them up to 3 or 4 years. It's lovely to push, easy to click up and down and the handle adjusts so my Dh can easily have it higher when he's pushing! Xx

UKtoSK · 20/01/2020 23:17

@mrssunshinexxx @Blizy my anatomy scan is on the 15th feb, when I’ll be 21 weeks. My due date is the 27th June so I think I’m one of the furthest behind in this group.

We’re not going to prepare a nursery because baby will be in our room for at least 6 months, but we have cleared out our spare room and got a new single bed in there for when my mum comes out here to stay for the birth. As soon as we got pregnant my husband started going round the flat clearing out everything he could, rearranging rooms...he got the nesting bug right away!

AmyMaria2 · 21/01/2020 02:39

Aw @newbyxx must be the best feeling, I can't wait to feel him properly, I thought I did but haven't felt anything since and I don't know if it was baby, I need to be more patient lol.

@Smiffette yeah definitely glad we get to see baby again, it's so weird seeing so much movement on screen but not being able to feel it🤣 hopefully won't be long for us x

20+6

mrssunshinexxx · 21/01/2020 07:03

@UKtoSK I'll be 21 weeks on my scan too you are exactly a week behind me.

Anyone else being killed with heartburn? I've started being sick now because of it and I'm totally exhausted which means I've just called in sick to work and now I feel guilty Confusedalthough also so so relieved at the thought of potentially some rest, please reassure me I was right to call in?Sad
