Hi, just found out after a long time trying! Haven't really told anyone yet so thought some ladies in the same position might want somewhere to share symptoms/stories/worries. Doesn't feel real yet and that 12 week scan seems a loooooong way off!! 😂

@Minniemee Oh I see! I didn't realise you'd had your 12 week scan already. Yes that's absolutely right, they date you at your 12 week scan and then that's it, it won't change again. That's apparently the most accurate time for them to date the pregnancy. It is odd that it's on baby size especially if we definitely know the date we conceived/ovulated. But the Sonographer said that's how it works and the size is all that matters. So your beautiful baby had a lovely growth spurt before that 12 week scan and that's put you ahead a little. Both of mine were the same, and this one I'm expecting the same again. I produce huge babies 🤦🏽‍♀️😂 xx

@Mammasj when you say that also happened to you, do you think it was that your babies were just bigger at the 12 week scan or that you actually conceived not when you thought it was?

I mean, in the grand scheme of things it honestly doesn't matter as it's more important it's healthy and no one says no to being a week further along, GrinI just hate when I can't get my head around something and I don't know how I could be 13 weeks along when that was a week before my period came and then according to my basal temperature I ovulated 12 days after that. I think I just wanted to be able to say in future I knew the exact date they were conceived haha xx

Mammasj · 06/02/2020 21:34

@Minniemee I know for absolute sure when I ovulated and therefore would have fertilised within 24 hours of that on all 3 of my babies. I can feel myself ovulate and on every baby, had early scans where they confirmed the date of ovulation and which ovary I'd ovulated from as I knew 😄 So I guess the babies just grew faster than average and therefore measured bigger at the 12 week scan. I think it's all just an average and I would imagine that different Sonographers would measure differently, baby position might affect it, their equipment might give different results etc. There are so many variables but I really don't think it matters at all. It's just an average date based on baby size but in reality, babies always come when they are ready lol xx

ml01omm · 07/02/2020 17:20

@mammasJ so does that mean then, even though I know for sure that I would have ovulated at least 1-2 weeks later than what they have dated me as - there is still a chance the baby will arrive on this new "13 weeks due date".

@minniemee - glad its not just me that is confused by all this

Mammasj · 07/02/2020 19:49

@ml01omm Yes that's right, I'm not entirely sure why they date it this way but I guess it must all be for a reason. You are full term from 37 weeks so baby can come any time from there. Some are early, some late, it's all a bit random really. Baby comes when they are ready but this average date allows them to give you the best healthcare at the right times. I don't think it actually makes a difference. I only know 1 person who has had baby on due date! Lol xx

Vialarooski · 07/02/2020 20:42

Hello everyone. Sorry I've not been posting, I've honestly had such an anxious week. What with this blooming slapped cheek worry (which I'm waiting on getting tests back next week to see if I'm immune 🤞🏻), and then this morning I had some rather unpleasant browny jellyish discharge (sorry if tmi!), so obviously thought the worst! My head was jumping to all kinds of horrible conclusions, went to the docs who said all totally normal. But I didn't feel reassured (had gotten myself into such a hole) so we went for another scan and there the little pip was happily bopping away, hands and legs wriggling. Could make out so much of baby that the sonographer (is that a word?) thought I was more towards the end of my tenth week (I'm 10w2) from how developed the baby was. So it's been a bit of a mad week.
How is everyone else feeling? What new symptoms have you got?
My boobs are the winner at the moment, feel so full and heavy! Can't stand not wearing a bra as they hurt too much!

IslayBrigid · 07/02/2020 21:37

Hi @Vialarooski glad you saw the wriggly bean and that all is well! Fingers crossed your bloods come back saying your immune!
I've had a tough week with nausea and vommitting this week. Only been spewing once in the evenings (and didn't today!) But it's been horrible. And just feeling so tired. So glad it's the weekend! Am meant to be going into London tomorrow to see friends but might have to cancel 😴😴😴 my sense of smell is also insane... Really strong, I can smell everything and nothing smells very nice! Haha. Also having cravings for fruit a lot... And lemonade.
What sorts of cravings do others have? X

Vialarooski · 07/02/2020 21:46

@IslayBrigid I'm with you on the sense of smell and fruit! How funny! Especially really juicy fruit like pineapple and melon. And oranges (which I'm not usually a fan of!)
And the smell thing, I can't deal with it. My hubby went out for a curry last night. I was in bed when he got up but the stench of garlic on his body and breathe woke me up! 🤢

IslayBrigid · 08/02/2020 09:05

@Vialarooski yes oranges and melon are big ones for me too! And fruit juice in general. Apple juice is amazing. Argh the smelly curry smell sounds horrible haha can definitely relate.

@GalaxyGirl24 sorry for delay your message got kind of lost in amongst all the others and I only just remembered I didn't reply! Yes it should have read *vaginal swab. It's where they take a swab of your vagina to get all the good bacteria and wipe it over the baby's face after the C-section coz one downside of a C-sections is the baby doesn't get the beneficial bacteria which forms basis of its gut-microbiom. It's not a huge deal esp if you breastfeed (because this also forms basis of it) but the gut microbiom is very important so good to give it the best possible start at beginning of life! If I have to do a C-section I'll definitely ask for the vaginal swab. I think I'll do two birth prererences plans. One with my ideal birth, water, no interventions etc, and one for if I have to have a C-section. What sort of spiritual support is your sis saying you should have? Sounds interesting!

I've found out I might be able to go to a midwife led unit at a hospital near me. It's not closest hospital, about 40 mins away. But it appeals as I've heard good things about midwife led units plus the hospital is on hand if needed. At present I've opted for a home birth but my midwife is so lovely and said she can try to get me into the birth centre if I want. I guess it's still early days isn't it! No point worrying yet... 🤣💛😬

BoboN5 · 08/02/2020 09:11

Just thought I'd chime in on the 'no symotoms' thing - I've had things very easy so far, no sickness (bar a little nausea) and even that dropped off a couple of weeks ago so naturally very anxious but we had our 12 week scan yesterday and the little bean was jumping around like a mad man, so a huge relief! Try not to worry if your symptoms have died down, every body is completely different and it's likely nothing to worry about. Good luck to everyone has has upcoming scans booked in!

Arc86 · 08/02/2020 09:26

@IslayBrigid @Vialarooski I’m having the juicy fruit cravings too! I spend ages on my lunch breaks gazing at the fruit salads in the supermarket trying to decide which ones to buy. I’m normally a massive chocolate fiend but i’m totally uninterested in it now which is unheard of for me. Loving all the salad at the moment too!

Jessem29 · 08/02/2020 09:45

Hi everyone! Had a really busy week so just trying to catch up on everyones post! Hope everyone is doing well! I have my 12 week scan on monday. Starting to feel very nervous/excited/anxious now. How is everyone else keeping busy! Xx

Mrs71 · 08/02/2020 11:54

@Jessem29 good luck for your scan on Monday. Mine is next Wednesday it can't come quick enough.

@Vialarooski glad your scan went well. That makes me feel better as I get a tiny bit of brown spotting now and again. The midwife did tell me it is very common though.

@BoboN5 I bet you feel relieved I also have no symptoms so reading your post made me feel so much better. 😊

GalaxyGirl24 · 08/02/2020 14:28

@IslayBrigid Ahhhh yes I have heard of a vaginal swab but thought maybe vaginal swap was something different 😂 in terms of spiritual support, she's quite religious and thinks a lot about harnessing inner power etc so it'll probably be something to do with breathing, self assurance and belief, innate feminine energy etc!

Yes, midwife led is the option I'll go for aslong as there's no complications!

Sorry to hear you've been feeling sick, I've been okay mainly, up and down, feeling sick today and it's typical that I'm having to sit at my nanas all day while painters are here. Got all the windows wide open as I'm terrified of fumes.

Also to answer your question re cravings, it's juicy things and carbs . Simple foods - can't stomach anything major really

megan81088 · 08/02/2020 17:18

Had my private scan today and everything was perfect measuring at 11+3 and baby was moving around loads so I feel hugely relieved and just grateful for the lack of symptoms just goes to show I was worrying about nothing but think we are all guilty of that! X

BFP! August/September 2020 Babies!
GalaxyGirl24 · 08/02/2020 17:39

@megan81088 Aw that's lovely! So glad your scan went well 🌟 we've booked (yet another) private scan next week at 11+5, then have our NHS one at 12+5. Booked a private as symptoms disappeared but Sod's law as soon as I booked it I then had awful nausea again the next day 🤦🏾‍♀️

IslayBrigid · 08/02/2020 18:35

@megan81088 congratulations on your scan! Baby looks amazing, so much like a real little baby! I can't wait for mine... it's in a week and a half, and I'll be 12+2. Eeee. Very excited, and a little nervous.

@GalaxyGirl24 I am also stuck in a house with paint fumes all day! We are doing up our house atm and DP and his brother are painting the hall.... I have just been trying to stay in other rooms but I can still smell it a little... I take solace in that Dulux says you can safely paint with any of its products at any time of pregnancy. Surely they wouldn't say that for fear of being sued if there was a risk? I'm not actually doing the painting myself also so hopefully that counts for something!

Channelling innate feminine energy sounds great! I'm hoping the doula and hypnobirthing helps with that haha... and the birthing pool. I honestly almost can't understand how women do it without a pool... It seems so essential to me! I suppose some women feel like that about an epidural. I am very tactile as well as love the water and just really hope it makes all the difference! I'm still umming and ahhing over whether to try to get into the birthing centre or to try for a home birth. I know I have ages to make the decision so I should just not worry but it's my new obsession...

What are other people's plans for birth? Or have we not got there yet (don't blame you if you haven't! I think i'm jumping the gun!).

@Arc86 I bought a fruit salad form Tesco today after reading your post :) The strawbs and melon were divine. x

Jessem29 · 08/02/2020 19:28

Wow amazing scans. So crazy how much it actually looks like a baby! So please for you. I am wondering in your 12 week scan, do you hear the heartbeat? Xxx

ClaraLane · 09/02/2020 16:37

Ooh lovely scan @megan81088 and great news about everyone else’s positive scans!

@IslayBrigid Mine will be another elective section so will hopefully get given the date at my consultant appointment tomorrow after my scan. Had an elective with DD except they class it as an emergency because I went into labour a week before my section date! Trying not to think about it too much as I know I got through it last time but definitely want to go for more of a gentle section this time and really want the screen down so I can see everything which DH didn’t want last time.

DH will also be having 4 weeks off this time whereas last time he only had 2 weeks so I’m hoping that will help. DD will also still be going to nursery two days a week to give me time with the new baby and my parents are also going to continue having her one day a week.

I’ve decided this time I’m going to cosleep in hospital as I really hurt myself getting DD in and out of the stupid plastic crib last time because the bed wouldn’t go high enough for me to lift her out without pulling my wound. I’m also going to ask for a private room and see how much that will be. Also thinking about asking to have a coil put in when they do the section as this will be the last baby for us due to my hyperemesis.

ClaraLane · 09/02/2020 16:38

@Jessem29 You don’t normally hear the heartbeat at 12 weeks, the first time I heard DD’s was at my 16 week midwife appointment but I don’t think they even do that now.

Mammasj · 09/02/2020 17:14

@Jessem29 They don't listen to baby's heart beat in my area until 20-24 weeks! I think all areas are different though. Unless you go private and then I assume they will do it for you. X

Ginblooded · 09/02/2020 17:16

Eek, it's my 12 week scan tomorrow ladies! I should be 12+ 2 days 🤞 very nervous as I generally feel fine! Tired and getting a few spots, which i think are hormone related but otherwise no issues 😬

@ClaraLane it might differ between midwives, my midwife said they'd listen to the heartbeat at the 16 week appointment and put a little heart next to my appointment date 😊

ClaraLane · 09/02/2020 19:16

@Ginblooded Scan Twins! Got mine tomorrow too 😬

Ooh that’s interesting, I know when they did mine she made a big deal about how she might not be able to find anything and not to panic and they didn’t offer it routinely because mums often got upset if they couldn’t find it. Must be one of those things that differs depending on location!

Mammasj · 09/02/2020 20:39

Good luck to everyone who have their 12 week scans this week 💞 x
