At how many weeks are people packing the hospital bags? I'm 32 tomorrow and haven't even begun yet.

Anyone care to share a list of what to bring?

GingerRogers84 · 15/01/2020 16:46

I'm having a labour bag and a ward bag. Hopefully I'll be let home and won't need the ward bag but will pack it all the same.

Labour bag (will go home straight away after birth):

  • full baby outfit plus nappy in sandwich bag.
  • fresh underwear and pad in sandwich bag for after
  • towel
  • old nighty for labour
  • fresh pjs for after
  • slippers for after
  • snacks and drinks

Ward bag:

  • x3 babygrows in sandwich bag
  • x3 vests, x3 muslins etc as above
  • pack of nappies
  • couple of packs of pads for me
  • leggings and loose top for me
  • towel
  • spare underwear for me
  • a sandwich bag of cotton balls and nappy sacks
  • carrier bag for sending home wet, pooed on, leaked in clothes.

Large handbag:

  • phone and charger
  • magazine
  • ear plugs
  • minimal makeup
  • mini toiletries and brush
  • snacks

Also forgot to mention breast pads and peppermint teabags in the event of a Caesarian. They are meant to relieve the air trapped after the op.

Jesskir89 · 15/01/2020 22:34

@GingerRogers84 slowly packing mine. @sadtoday21 I've got to stay on for 24 hours after birth so I'm taking 4 outfits for baby and nappies etc, for me nighty and pj's, slippers and housecoat, underwear, toiletries including breastpads and sanitary towels and clean clothes and snacks x

Jesskir89 · 15/01/2020 22:35

And phone charger....

MiniJMac · 16/01/2020 11:51

Always worth packing some glucose tablets too for that extra bit of energy for labour and a straw for your drink.
I need to go shopping to start packing mine but I'll be taking two bags like last time. One for me, one for bub.

MissPepper8 · 16/01/2020 12:24

My mum did mine as a Christmas present, it's missing bits and pieces. But a labour and ward bag is an excellent idea, my bag is overflowing so I might do that :). I did DH a bag (or I bought one from a site) that has an inflatable pillow, eye mask, portable charger, water bottle ect and I'm going to stick in snacks for him.

I'd suggest 2 flannels for washing (I chucked one after my first after birth shower), flip flops for shower. Also suggest prepacking a spare carrier bag (nighty, extra knickers, baby grows, pads ect) incase for your partner to grab, I didn't expect a section or my DS to stay in for 3 days for observation and my DH was a headless chicken grabbing nighties I wouldn't wear on a ward and non sensible knickers 😂

@MiniJMac Glucose tablets are a really good idea, I think I got mine from poundland but mw was giving me ones too. Energy drinks they'd only allow me the lucozade sports? Not normal lucozade so that was a waste, but the sports bottles are smaller.

GingerRogers84 · 16/01/2020 13:05

Oooh yes! A contingency bag left at home is a great idea! I can only imagine what my husband would try to bring in! 😂

I had jelly babies in my labour snacks last time and they are the only thing I actually ate.

I might pack a T-shirt for my husband in case of a lengthy labour but I remember the midwives taking very good care of him last time with a stream of tea and toast! 😂

whiskersonkittenss · 17/01/2020 13:34

How funny, I can imagine my boyfriend panic packing a spare bag and arriving at hospital with my swimming cozzy and gardening shoes

Jesskir89 · 17/01/2020 16:44

@NailQueen9

MissPepper8 · 17/01/2020 16:47

@whiskersonkittenss Haha.. I love him but.. I had a cesarean wound and he packed what I would call sexy knickers, silk hip type ones. I text my mum after and asked her to go buy some high waist granny pants 😂

NailQueen9 · 17/01/2020 23:27

Re the baby bag - the following was sent to me that might be useful www.smababy.co.uk/pregnancy/hospital-bag-checklist/

Jesskir89 · 18/01/2020 13:20

@NailQueen9 that's really useful thanks. Is anyone else really fed up? I'm in agony with my back and keep getting upset. Just cleaning last night crippled me :(

sadtoday21 · 18/01/2020 14:05

@Jesskir89 I am! Starting to feel large, tired, and quite irritable at 32+2.

When is everyone packing their hospital bags? How much weight have you gained so far?

maria94 · 18/01/2020 20:56

@sadtoday21 I have baby's hospital bag ready, just need to get a few last bits for mine! I'm almost 34 weeks. X

@Jesskir89 if it makes you feel any better I'm feeling very fed up and impatient too!! These last few weeks seem to be dragging 😣 can't seem to get comfortable no matter what I try! x

Jesskir89 · 18/01/2020 22:15

@sadtoday21 the discomfort is awful! I went to slimming world last week and have put on exactly a stone so I'm really happy with that tbh. Just started packing my bags bit by bit @maria94 you're a couple of weeks ahead of me too and I'm struggling :(

Seren1979 · 19/01/2020 17:02

Totally missed this, anyhow hope you are all keeping okay and all of your bumps are behaving. 😁

Jesskir89 · 19/01/2020 18:23

@seren1979 yes thank you how are you doing? Xx

Seren1979 · 19/01/2020 19:15

Im not even going to get into me, been crazy hospital since NYE between referral to see fetal medicine team and then backwards and forwards to my own hospital 😔

Jesskir89 · 19/01/2020 20:40

@seren1979 I hope everything's OK?

Seren1979 · 19/01/2020 21:05

@jesskir89, my placenta isnt working properly and so miss isnt growing properly and was placed just under 3rd centile 2 weeks ago, but by tuesday she had dropped closer to 0 so i am being monitored twice weekly and with weekly placenta scan and growth scan fortnightly. I am 30 weeks now, and they are aiming for 32 weeks before deciding on anything else as longs as my placenta still behaves.

Jesskir89 · 19/01/2020 22:34

@seren1979 sorry to hear what a nightmare you're having must be worrying. I'm glad they're closely monitoring you. Hope you're OK and please let us know how you're getting on

Seren1979 · 20/01/2020 05:51

@jesskir89 im doing ok, mentally drained.. But ok. Thank you x

NailQueen9 · 20/01/2020 14:44

@Seren1979 got everything crossed for you. Waiting for a scan here since Thursday (as bump measures way bigger than it should 🤦🏽‍♀️)

NailQueen9 · 20/01/2020 14:50

Baby bag is pretty much packed now (week 32 tomorrow) - I packed muslin clothes, baby vests, baby grows (all newborn), two cotton hats and scratch mitts, one wool hat and mittens. Small pack size 1 nappies, some water wipes (they are the reccomended ones for newborn as 99.9% water) they say cotton wool is better so I packed like soft face pads as well. But thought maybe wipes might be for me if I’m covered in sick or anything. I also put in the front pocket a few easy to grab bits for me - hair ties and clip, some choc, glucose tablets, notebook (to write feeding times), nipple cream, lipsol, paracetamol, rennie (because I need this after every meal now!), glucose tablets, bottle of water, small squash and I'm planning to put in monopoly card game and jelly babies!

Aiming to sort a hospital bag for me by end of weekend!
