I had my 12-week scan today (although I am 13 weeks 5 days) and everything looked good. The baby was upside down and moving around a bit. It was a relief to see him because on Wednesday I woke up in the night to use the loo and had bright red spotting. I ended up having to go into the doctor early Thursday morning for a shot because I am RhD negative. We were able to listen to the heartbeat then so we knew baby was alive and well but it was still really good to see him moving about on the scan today and listen to his heartbeat again.

How is everyone planning on telling work? Sorry if this has already been asked but I am freelance but under contract with my main client who I have years-long projects planned with. I was planning on holding off on telling them until after the holidays to get a bit more work done and prove my worth, essentially. I have had a bit of a struggle with my mum, though who is really pushing me to tell more people. I have a lot of friends at work who I am personal friends with, and I don't want them knowing until I can speak with the heads of the company first. I still feel protective over not sharing the news with too many people because I am not showing yet and I would like to get through the 20-week scan first to make sure all is okay.

Every time I talk to my mum she is pressuring me to tell more friends, post on social media (which I will never do, nor will I share baby pictures) and tell other family members (I have told those who I am close to and who I would share the news with if something went wrong).

I think I am just looking for reassurance that it is my right to tell people in my own time. What do you all think?

facevalue · 23/11/2019 01:05

currently on a fabulous family holiday without hubby! sat upright because my reflux is awful. i took an ant acid tab already and waiting for it to work- realised i have questions:

  1. when r u ladies planning to stop sleeping on your back and front ? just when it starts feeling uncomfortable or at specific weeks preg?
  1. anyone noticed any change in their bowels and the genital area?! TMI sorry but i feel something is different back down
  1. anyone else struggling with sleep - i'm struggling because i cough/ sore throat / sinuses only get congested in bed/ acid reflux
  1. i'm starting to feel back pain and random pelvic pains like i'm going to have a period ( no bleeding, not bad enough for paracetamol)? what can i do apart from just get on with it.
  1. mums of toddlers that demanding to be picked up etc- are you still lifting and carrying- my DD is starting to feel heavy for me and she demands to be picked up and i keep bending to get her into the cot bed when she falls asleep.
  1. when can we have massages or go for a SPA again? after how many weeks.

for no good reason when i can't sleep my brain is all over the place how are u ladies keeping calm / sane 😘😭

i'm feeling pregnant for sure the bump is showing and everything feels tight even my lovely stretchy new PJs.

november90 · 23/11/2019 06:32

@GinUnicorn @Bumpingalong84
Right ladies I can't be 100% sure because the nub isn't glaringly obvious in either scans, but I've zoomed in and circled where I think the nub is below (I'll delete them off my phone after I've finished worrying this!) and they look to be fine/parallel with the spine so I am guessing girl for both of you ☺️💗
Apparently all nubs start off flat and girl looking but they can rise at about week 13 so this may have changed but I am thinking girl from what I've seen in comparison to what others have posted online 😊

@GinUnicorn I was convinced he was a boy and he was!! No idea why though, I just "felt it" but I have always imagined having boys so maybe that's why I felt so strongly? This time I have noooo idea but I would be delighted to have a girl or another boy so maybe that's why I'm less sure. What about you? How old is your first?

Lu1u · 23/11/2019 06:54

@facevalue awh that sounds lovely hope you are having a good time! To answer some of your questions-

  1. I think by second trimester you are supposed to start side sleeping. If you are a natural back/front sleeper this can be hard though! The midwife advised me that if I find myself on my back when I wake just turn onto my side and try to go back to sleep in that position. Your bump will get in the way soon for front sleeping anyway!

  2. just paracetamol and hot water bottles for the horribly stretchy pains like period pain for me, sometimes I do some gentle yoga but no idea if that does anything!

  3. I have a 14 month old so still lots of carrying/lifting here! I am trying to get him to do the stairs himself/get on the sofa with supervision but obviously still have to lift in and out the cot. When I am a bit further along I might get a support band to help my back as I am going to have to keep lifting him right until the end.

  4. you can go to the spa at any time when you are pregnant ☺️ you won't be able to use all the facilities and have all the treatments but the spa can tell you what you can/can't use. A pregnancy massage is bliss and would recommend to anyone that is thinking of having one at any stage of pregnancy!

Clairesoph · 23/11/2019 08:28

@Lu1u I feel you on the toddler front 😩 trying to get my 17 month old to walk more and get up and down the stairs. Im so conscious of it. Im thinking about taking the plunge and getting him into his toddler bed over Christmas too so less lifting in and out of a cot but I really wanna sleep too so not sure how good that plan is 😳😅

facevalue · 23/11/2019 09:04

@Clairesoph waw you are aiming high. mine is 26 months old and i already failed toilet training over a week and i gave up and put her in nappies again. she's in cotbed with the sides still on cos i don't want her wondering off whenever she wakes up. she's independent on the stairs. goodluck i'm sure it will be fine my friend's toddler was in in his bed without the side for months and he's the same age as my girl x every kid is different x

facevalue · 23/11/2019 09:11

@Lu1u very helpful thanks x

Moonstone12 · 23/11/2019 09:33

@Lu1u @facevalue I remember putting my 1st in a full size single bed from age 16 months because I needed the cot for my 2nd. Now this was 14/15 yrs ago and I don't remember any particular difficulties but I may have blocked them out 😂😂😂
I did keep her in her grobag and she hadn't worked out that she could walk around in that so maybe that helped her not to get in and out of bed??

Best thing though is to do what you think is best for your child. I did my 1st 6 months before her sister was born as I didn't want her feeling like she was pushed out of her cot for the baby. It worked for her. But as facevalue said every child is different :) xx

Bumpingalong84 · 23/11/2019 10:47

Ahh @november90 I’ve had such a mix of responses. I know this will be our last so I’d love my daughter to have a sister but if it was a boy I’d would be amazing to also have one of each, so I’m buzzing either way, just eager to find out. Think hubby would like another girl Cos he says he knows how to parent a girl now 😂

God I’ve been conscious about sleeping on my side since I found out, I’m a belly sleeper so it’s so hard, but the pregnancy pillow helps.

GinUnicorn · 23/11/2019 11:24

Thanks @november90 I couldn’t see a thing!

Anyone else just starting to get excited? Now the scan is fine and Down syndrome risk is low I feel like I can finally be happy about it.

GinUnicorn · 23/11/2019 11:39

@Lu1u first one is 2 and so energetic getting heavy to carry! How olds yours?

facevalue · 23/11/2019 11:57

@Moonstone12 haha i hear you. my mum had us in beds very early too. my sister never even bought a cot she just coslept and still does with her 4 year old so he's always in grown up beds. she's a single parent 👍🏼

sazzlerazzle · 23/11/2019 12:34

Morning ladies, hope everyone is well and hello to new joiners to the group!

I’ve just bought my first baby related thing and thought it’s a good bargain to share.... www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B07PSPQ3GS/ref=ya_aw_od_pi?psc=1&tag=mumsnetforu03-21&ie=UTF8

It’s selling at £90 most places and was £75 on amazon just a couple of days ago, now £60. Great if you don’t have any of this stuff already and cheaper than buying separately. My sister and best friend have both used this kit and recommended it to me so I’m hoping it’s as good as they say! x

fluffyunicorns86 · 23/11/2019 16:10

Hello ladies thank you for all the good luck messages yesterday it all went well and was told had a good amount of cervix to do the stitch snows easy for them. Spinal was ok kicked in quickly and was done so quickly. Had to stay in over night as had catheter in as would be expected with spinal. Also now got to have cyclogest once a day aswell till about 32 weeks and stitch will be removed at 36-37 weeks. Was so nervous but I know what to expect when it is removed so wont be as bad.

Had my 20 week scan through the door today which I am so happy about on the 17th December so just before xmas.

I try to sleep on my left side now so I am ready for when you need to.

Glad all went well @fluffyunicorns86 hopefully you can rest and relax now!

november90 · 23/11/2019 19:43

@fluffyunicorns86 glad it's the stitch is all done and dusted and you and baby are doing well. I bet you're just so glad to be moving forward from that now!

Urgh does anyone have a much loved food that just makes them feel rank? every time i eat a cheese burger or any form of beef I feel so blurgh. It's so random. I ate cheese burgers galore with my first son! I'm gutted as I love a double cheese burger from McDonald's 🙈

Bumpingalong84 · 23/11/2019 20:15

Aww @fluffyunicorns86 I’m so pleased it all went well and you have a plan and know what the next steps are. Must be such an anxious time for you these last few weeks.

@november90 I was like that in my last pregnancy but this time I seem to be eating anything in sight, I’m so anxious about getting on the scales 😬 tho today I was craving salad and made myself a huge salad with lots of yummy things in it and loads of seeds. We had lamb chops so I just had one of them with it.

facevalue · 23/11/2019 20:46

@fluffyunicorns86 that's such a relief x massive hugs and fingers crossed for the 17th

@november90 😑 tell me about it. lots of my prepregnancy foods are a no no now. i'm currently obsessed with freshly squeezed oranges- juice i had 4 glasses today 😂 it's getting expensive. i'm off meat in general.

i booked my NCT place - despite already having had a child - i really just want to meet ppl in my area to spend may leave with. my last NCT group didn't live exactly by me but that was because the course was fully booked at the time.

anyone else getting offers from their mum/ MIL to come stay with u for few weeks when the baby is born! i think it's amazing but i get fed up if ppl are in my face for too long - i like a little alone time

slowrunningteacher · 23/11/2019 21:08

I got a Mum-to-be Bounty pack from Asda and look what was in it! (Alongside 24 nappies and other small bits).
It's the 1st outfit we've got...

slowrunningteacher · 23/11/2019 21:11

@facevalue from the sounds of it my Mum is expecting to be called upon... I might let her stay for a bit when OH goes back to work.
FIL made some comment the other week suggesting I might need MIL during the birth. I'm not even intending to have my Mum there!

november90 · 23/11/2019 21:11

@Bumpingalong84 I am avoiding the scales completely now! I'm struggling with meals in general and I'm just snacking on a lot of sugary things.... so yeah, no weigh in for me anytime soon 🙈

@facevalue yeah I'm not massive on meat atm either. It's touch and go with chicken.. the smell could really send me right off if it caught me in a bad moment!

Isn't it strange what pregnancy can do to our appetites! I hope next time I crave salad, veg, water and fruit..... 😂😂😂

facevalue · 23/11/2019 21:16

@slowrunningteacher wow! i definitely want my husband ... no mums or MIL - Thanks! 😂😂😂 i chuckled as your FIL imagination

@november90 funny u mention it- i'm completely off water too 😂hence the orange juice replacement lol
