@sazzlerazzle the price is shocking, but we were able to order one when the company had a half off sale (for their anniversary) a couple of weeks ago. They will hold the shipment until my due date, and if anything goes wrong with the baby, we can cancel the order. The shipping is an issue though because they don't ship to the UK. We have to have it sent to DP main office in America who will then ship it to his UK office. But I have seen them for sale on gumtree and facebook so that could be an option for people looking within the UK.

sazzlerazzle · 13/11/2019 22:09

@rosewater20 It’ll be worth the wait as it looks so nice! I like baby things that are stylish/designed well and blend into existing furniture etc.

Having said that, I saw an ad for a child ball pit that was grey and all the balls were black, white and grey! Would look great in my lounge but how boring for baby 😂😂😂

Bumpingalong84 · 13/11/2019 22:37

@rosewater20 what is your dating scan so late?

The snuzpod looks lovely. We have a chicco next2me from when we had our daughter so we’ll be using that again, was super happy with it. We have most things but will need a new car seat. We have the base for the cybex Aton which we had with DD which I loved and fits on to the pram so will get a new one. As it was stored in the garage and has some damp patches after all these years so will need a new one.

rosewater20 · 13/11/2019 23:47

@sazzlerazzle. I am the same way about the looks of things. I don't want our home overtaken by primary-coloured children's toys. I am trying to find a happy medium of baby things that look nice and blend in well with our home but are also visually stimulating for the baby. I am also at a bit of a loss because none of my friends has babies yet, and I am only getting baby recommendations from my DP best friends wife who lives in the US. Most of the things she has suggested I get are only available there.

@Bumpingalong84 I have no idea why it is so late. I thought about calling up and asking for an earlier appointment, but DP is away with work until next Tuesday, and I don't want to go without him (and by that point, it will almost be Friday so I might as well keep the appointment). I did have a few scans early on because I was having bad cramping and a bit of pink discharge so perhaps that is why this appointment is pushed so far out (the last scan was a little over two weeks ago).

rosewater20 · 13/11/2019 23:49

@Bumpingalong84 how did you find the weight of the cybex? It was a bit heavy when I lifted it in the store and that was even without a baby. I like the safety features of the Cybex so I am still keen on it.

facevalue · 13/11/2019 23:55

i used a next to me crib and sleepyhead. i highly recommend the nursing chair from mothercare with the footstool if u plan to breastfeed. i highly recommend all the above ( even though sleepyhead has some bad publicity but it did not change my mind) xxx

rosewater20 · 14/11/2019 00:00

@facevalue, how did you find the sleepyhead? I have looked at it but then read negative reviews about the safety (as well as a lot of glowing reviews) that made me nervous.

I am wondering if I need more than once sleep space (besides the bassinet in the bedroom) for when the baby is small. I am trying to limit the amount of stuff we have, but I wasn't sure if we need another bassinet to carry around the rest of the house? If we get the Uppa baby vista it comes with a bassinet for the pram that is sleep safe, so maybe we can use that outside of our bedroom?

Missmuck · 14/11/2019 05:02

@rosewater20 I would definitely recommend you have somewhere for the baby to sleep downstairs with my older 2 I had a Moses basket with 2 stands one up and one down and I've done the same with this one I've had friends that have used their prams too. I've also got a joie swing that reclines too so can sleep in there as well downstairs x

facevalue · 14/11/2019 07:06

@rosewater20 i can swear by the sleepyhead. Everything can be unsafe if you use it incorrectly and don't supervise your baby. also it's important to work with how much space you have. at the moment we have a lot of space downstairs and upstairs ( but we didn't in zone 3 london when my DD was born) we used the next to me cot which also was a travel cot for upstairs and when we went away to my in-laws and i used the sleepyhead downstairs on the Sofa. this time i'll probably use the sleepyhead again / small cot or buggycot downstairs x

Clairesoph · 14/11/2019 07:43

@rosewater20 we have an uppababy vista and I love it! Massive basket for all my junk and its so sturdy! We have a dog so wanted a pram that could cope offroad aswell but even more of a bonus is that it transforms ito a double buggy which is great now im about to have two under two!!

As for sleeping the only thing that puts me off a sleepy head is the price and with my son we had a next to me upstairs and a moses downstairs. Especially with a bouncy lab he needed somewhere safe to snooze 😂 dog kept dropping his tennis ball over the side of it anyway 🤦🏻‍♀️

Caspianberg · 14/11/2019 08:02

We are probably going to go straight to a cot rather than a side sleeper. will I regret this?
Im thinking a side sleeper will be annoying to get in and out of bed with, and on probably just my side so dh will get away with less baby duties as i will settle more. If cot is at bottom of the bed then we will equally have to both get out to sort baby. Baby is hopefully going to be breastfed mainly, but bottle last thing from Dh so he will be the one to settle them to sleep in the evening. (and he is on bum duty if i am on boob duty)

I think we are looking at one of the Mountain buggys due to where we live. Not sure whether the Swift as smaller and lighter for car and lifting, or the Urban as bigger wheels. Has anyone used either in the past and have an opinion on either? Planning on using the carrycot downstairs for naps.

facevalue · 14/11/2019 09:22

@Caspianberg logical. from my experience and the advice i received from mums before i had mine, the next to me was more practical if you breastfeeding cos baby will be in and out regularly and walking to end of your bed etc will be a headache , i ended with C sec so definitely couldn't get up so regularly in that sleep deprived state despite my hubby being completely hands on. even if your hubby does one bottle at night the main baby feeding will be you 😘😍 i loves it x goodluck .. we got a next to me ( which will only be used until 5-6months then its too small and a cotbed which my DD is still in x goodluck

@Clairesoph i got a bugaboo donkey which has a basket which is so handy and now opens to double buggy ( but it's heavy) excellent if u r mainly walking or using public transport but now we use the car mainly - it will be nicer weather frommay so hopefully will use it more with new baby x

Pastnowfuture · 14/11/2019 10:09

I'm also hoping to get a side sleeper but we have a very limited budget. Chicco next to me or snuzpod sell for around £50 second hand so will probably consider those with a new matteress unless I find a bargain in January sale. Have also noted some cheaper side sleepers- hauk and one on wowcher but don't know anyone with experience of using them.

slowrunningteacher · 14/11/2019 10:42

Well, I was less of a nervous wreck than I thought I would be this morning. I was a bit weepy before we went into the scan, then the computer was misbehaving! The sonographer rebooted it and scanned whilst waiting. She immediately went "There's a tenant in there!". 1st measurement was a bit small, but 2nd was alright and EDD is 24 May 2020. Baby kept kicking, then mimicked the position I was doing with my arm, then bounced up and down quite a bit. I think it's sinking in that this might actually be happening and it's not a dream...

Due May 2020 (thread 3)
Linzapip · 14/11/2019 11:04

Thank you all for the congratulations. I still can't believe it's twins. I just wanted to share with you that I had been so ill and sick up to 12 weeks when I started drinking fizzy drinks such as coke. I know this is bad but I honestly think it has stopped the sickness because if I don't drink it for a day I'm sick again. I drink it and I feel myself. I never drank fizzy before I hated it. Pregnancy sure does weird things to you 🤣

Moongirl10 · 14/11/2019 11:59

I’m glad your scan went ok in the end after the computer misbehaving @slowrunningteacher!
I have mine on Saturday. I’ve already had one at 6 weeks and one at 8 weeks but I’m in Canada so not sure if this is just how things are done here.

My family are saying I need to get a Moses Basket on wheels, does anyone else recommend this?

helpasisterout · 14/11/2019 13:05

Got my 20 week scan appointment at my dating scan yesterday and finding that reassuring to have another date to aim for.

Popped into mothercare after the scan yesterday just for a look but nothing reduced enough to justify buying it at such an early stage. Spoke to a lovely member of staff though and was chuffed for her she's got a job starting in a week in a shop just next door so doesn't have to panic about Christmas money etc which was nice to hear.

I was browsing on a selling site and found a sleepyhead in mint condition for £39 so did buy that which I am sure will provoke a massive eye roll from DP when it arrives 😬

Sunshine8888 · 14/11/2019 13:32

Well I just took the plunge and signed up to NCT classes while I can afford to pay for it - I don’t know many people locally that have babies so figured I’d better buy myself some friends 🙈

Sunshine8888 · 14/11/2019 13:48

Also does anyone know if it’s ok for me to have my eyelashes lifted / permed and eyebrows tinted ? I would assume yes if it’s ok for ladies to have their hair coloured but not 💯

May2311 · 14/11/2019 14:32

@Sunshine8888 I have been having mine done regularly😊 xx

sazzlerazzle · 14/11/2019 15:17

@Sunshine8888 I’m considering NCT too, most of my friends have had their babies already so it might be nice to have a network of people with babies of the same age.

@rosewater20 a few people have told me to get a separate Moses basket for downstairs even though the snuzpod lifts up and out of its base. I can see what they’re saying, if I had to carry this downstairs with a sleeping baby inside I would be very nervous indeed - I hate even carrying the laundry basket down the steps and not being able to see my feet 😂

woollycat · 14/11/2019 15:42

Oh yeah I should probably book NCT too in case it gets booked up!

Just booked our Harmony test for this Saturday, will be 13+2 then. Will also be finding out gender! @Sunshine8888 and others who had done Harmony - how many days did you get the results in?

Smiffette · 14/11/2019 16:11

Hi! Congratulations to you all Smile

Is it ok to join? My due date is 11.06.19 but there's a chance it could be early so thought I would hang out with May due dates also just in case!

10 weeks today with first baby

sazzlerazzle · 14/11/2019 16:17

@Smiffette Hello! I was a May baby but then got brought forward to end of April, everyone welcome though :)

How have you been getting on?

Smiffette · 14/11/2019 16:43

Not too bad actually not been sick although been feeling nauseous since about 5 weeks. The occasional horrible headache, and lower back ache but nothing unmanageable.

I'm dreading the later stages as I have an hour each way commute to work. I am lucky to have a great boss though so I know she will be super flexible as I can work from in my job Smile
