J20 - sorry you couldn't register for your course but good news that you won't have to do the first year anyway so I guess starting next year will make you no worse off than you expect...

Lisa - they had the avent microwave steriliser in our asda today too! Typical! Nearly bought it as this one takes 6 bottles too compared to our one that takes 4 but then decided they do it so quick its not really a problem... I got mine on ebay for a fiver so perhaps it would be worth you looking there too? It didn't look new but then its only plastic and can be washed so I wasn't botherered!

OK hello everyone else!!!

Getting excited rather than scared about this lo for the first time in ages - just been hanging up all the tiny sleepsuits that I have been washing - can't believe ds used to fit into them!!!! Really into sorting out mode and can't do anymore for a bit as will disturb ds who is chattering away at the moment. Nothing will disturb him once he's asleep but if I'm pottering about upstairs while he's trying to settle that will keep him up....

orangecat · 01/09/2007 19:44

Well potty training went ok, sort of. Not sure DD gets it totally, but 3 x wees in potty and 1 x accident. Not bad for first day.

Supermum day went on, second coat of paint on DD room, zoo for the afternoon and supermarket shopping. Am now, unsurprisingly, totally knackered.

Couldn't read back through entire thread, but did reach down to hospital bag packing. Christ I haven't done anything! No birth plan, no packing of hospital bag and haven't dug out and washed any of the equipment I need yet. Think i'd better get a move on, due on the 10th!!

At least I'm on maternity leave now, so no excuses not to get arse in gear.

Inzi, I never had BH last time either, and don't seem to be getting any yet. I guess there's still time...

J20 - poo re creche. Bloody nightmare trying to sort childcare so you can do your thing

alicet · 01/09/2007 20:14

Inzi - meant to say I had bh's from 28 weeks last time (although none so far since my run of them at 18 weeks...) so 32 weeks is fine. Mine were a tightening of my bump without any discomfort but my labour pains started as period type pains - since bh's are practice labour pains I would expect what you are feeling could be bh's to - I know they're variable for different people.

Orange - glad potty training going well!

Well dinner nearly ready and x-factor to watch! See you ladies later....

ChocolateHobnob · 01/09/2007 21:01

Hi all

Lisa, your description made me laugh!

Orange and Alicet, well done with all the sorting out.

J20, shame about the course but at least you've not lost a year. Oh and pear cider and pop tarts?!

Buffy, how are you?

And Mrs Fish? Has LO turned??

And glad that today's been not too bad, Floria.

Inzi, glad it isn't shingles and that your grandparents are getting there. My mum rang earlier and apparently my grandmother was out till 11 last night and managed a sherry and a lager! Definitely wilder than me (I might have had a Ribena...!).

We got the glider chair and LO's car seat this morning. I spent half the afternoon sat on the glider chair - it's amazingly comfortable to read in with your feet up on a stool. Paradise. The car seat in the house began to bring it home to me - two will soon become three, and it's going to change everything, and that's really exciting and a bit scary. I managed a siesta today which was good because I was awake in the night feeling faint and had to eat - I've never had to eat in the night before, and I felt too sick to face anything, but really needed something, so had a handful of cereal. Hope this was a one-off!!

I don't think I've had any cravings! Apart from developing a sweeter tooth than usual... I've had BH though, at least I think that's what they are, just in the last couple of weeks - they feel really weird.

We've decided to paint LO's room and DH has tried out a few samples and we've decided on one. We've got a charity coming to collect our now unwanted furniture from that room this week. We're getting there! slowly.

Hope you all enjoyed the X factor (that Japanese woman was so funny - but she couldn't have gone to boot camp, surely...) and have a good night!

lisad123 · 01/09/2007 21:03

I have been having BH for a while now They were only ever on top of my bump with Tanisha but this time they are under my bump.
I have been getting contractions every 30 or 20 mins, lasting about 30 sec for a few days now, but been told not to worry and aslong as time doesnt get smaller and pains worse, its ok. Also read somewhere that if paracetol takes away the pain, they are defo BH
I brought a new blanket today, my big knickers for hospital and just about to go and re pack bags. I have decided to pack labour bag, and a bag with enough stuff to see me and LO though a 2day hospital stay and gonna leave rest on top of changing table "just incase" we need to stay longer for DH to bring in if needed. he sucks at finding anything
Also found out our delivery rooms at the hospital have cd players so will pack some cd's too

I could do cold water sterlising but am plain lazy, and im doing my bit by using washable They seem to be going for a very little on ebay, so will find one i can collect and bid

j20baby · 01/09/2007 21:22

hi guys

i've had my pizza, only 2 slices, my friend had 4 pieces but she's very skinny so needs fattening up, she's also very brown from her holiday i managed to not trip her up on the way to pizza shop, but i thought about it[evil laughing emoticom] but she did buy a bottle of pear cider to share with me, mmmm it is so delicious, feel a bit tipsy after a small glass of it, was pmsl at x factor and i don't usually watch that kind of thing.

i've got my hosp bags packed, need loads, especially as i'm meant to be in for 2 days after the birth due to the strep B, have packed a packet of 28 nappies, does everyone think that'll be enough?

OP posts:
lisad123 · 01/09/2007 21:34

28 nappies would be enough, if your only there for 2 days. Why do you need to stay in for step B? If they are treating you and baby during labour, surely your ok to leave? Or am i crazy? I might be, i do have baby brain

j20baby · 01/09/2007 21:39

i have to have AB as soon as i go into labour and then again after 4 hours, its unlikely that they'll have time to get the 2nd dose into me as i was only in labour with dd for 3 hours, so they keep the baby's in for 48 hours afterwards as a precaution apparantly, even if they do manage to get both doses in, mw said its likely they may want to observe her for the 48 hours anyway!

it also pi**es me off that i wont get to stay at home for some of my labour, but i have to get in ASAP

Hi all,
Personal question here re nipples...
I have just notice my right nipple has a patch that is darkish brown (a bit like it's been bruised or hard/dry skin)... it doesn't hurt or anything so don't even know how long it has been like this...
Anyone else?
Is it just one of those pregnancy things or should I worry?

WinnieThePooh · 01/09/2007 22:18

Evening Everyone, I started to reading about 9.30pm, so loads more posts will probably appear whwn I press the post button.

J20 - Sorry to hear about the college. At least that is 1 less thing to worry about.

Orangecat ? Welcome to the group. I am hopeless at remembering tp to my pelvic floor exercises.

Inzi ? Glad the spots and pain have gone.

Got a bit more sorting out in my bedroom done yesterday and today. DP was a cheeky sod last night as there whas nothing on the bedroom floor, he asked "what did you lose in the bedroom" Done loads of washing today, so wull have to get it all iron tomorrow.

DD was at a birthday party this afternoon and the entertainer had EVERYONE up at the end for the Hoket Cokey. Party did not finish until 5pm and I had to lie down when we got home. Sent DP up to the chippy at 8pm and DD went to bed at 9pm. This is the last late night of the holidays. She will be in bed by 7.30pmn tomorrow and Monday as she is back to school on Tuesday.

I must tell you this - DD has been having a shower with me in the mornings for the last week and she wanted a shower this morning, but neither DP nor I were having one, so she used the shower in the main bathroom on her own, she even washed her body and hair herself. DP had to get her out as she would have stayed in there all morning If possible.

I hope everyone is having a good weekend.

alicet · 02/09/2007 04:28

Bah can't sleep! After all the sorting out we've been doing my head is ticking like crazy!!!

Chohobnob - glad your glider chair lives up to expectations! Know what you mean about things beginning to sink in. Got excited rather than terrified about lo's arrival yesterday when I was washing all his tiny sleepsuits...

Unicorn - don't know if the changes to your nipple you describe are pregnancy related but they don't sound unduly alarming (I am a surgical doc and do mostly breast surgery so for once might be able to be useful!!). Certainly normal for skin around nipple to go darker than normal. If you are worried though go see mw / gp - they will be able to reassuer you better as they will actually be able to look at it for you!

Winnie - my ds LOVES the shower too! If I get in the shower after he is awake then he usually comes in with me and its a fight to get him out!

Anyway off to spare room to read and try to sleep.... Sure to be up in about 2 hours with ds anyway - boo!!

nellieloula · 02/09/2007 09:02

oh Alice, not a good start for you - really hope you mnage to get a lazyday today.
Unicorn, I have that with my nipples too - am watching carefully though cause last time my left nipple inverted and it was a right palava. But everyone tells me this, and the colour changes are very normal - and hurrah for alice being a breast surgeon! she can answer all our queries

glad everyone else is ok and I hope had a good night's sleep. I am now facing 6 days of no husband and no play dates (all our friends are selfishly away!) I was almost in tears at the thought of no company for that long, apart from a 2 yr old, and feeling so so tired last night but have woken up ok and DS and I are now on our way for papers and coffee so I hope it'll be a happy morning. Sure everyone else with DC's feels this but it's just the tea/bath/bed time I dread - I get so knackered by 4 it takes extreme summoning of energy just to finish the day!

We also realised last night that DH's next job (Oct and Nov) will involve a 2hr commute at the end of a 13 hr day - he usually stays there during the week but I think I'll be really struggling having had a section, with DS1 and a newborn on my own. He knows he needs to come home, and wants to, but is also aware of how dangerous those hours with broken baby sleep at home could be....Does anyone else have any experience of this?? How did you manage and is it possible with no family and limited friends around?? any pointers would be really appreciated. right - starbucks is calling so see you all later. have a good day everyone.

MrsFish · 02/09/2007 09:45

Good morning everyone.

Far too many posts to catch up on seeing as I wasn't on most of yesterday, so I'll be brief

Had a lovely day yesterday and this morning still, my two aunts and mum came down to stay seeing as dh is off on a jolly till next week, and they are keeping sam amused for me so can relax. Had a crap nights sleep though, went to bed at 11pm and up at 7.30am but was awake at some point during every hour in between.

Heard a couple of horror stories from my aunt regarding her two births (years ago now granted) but horrid to say the least. Has made me even more determined to make sure I am listened to when I ring mw tomorrow.

Nellie - sounds like a horrible situation If I hadn't got the visitors I have had, am having this week, the 10 days without DH would be horrible. You have my sympathies.

alicet - hope you managed to get a bit more sleep

lisad123 · 02/09/2007 10:10

Morning all

Horrible night, could not sleep. When I did get to sleep I dreamt LO was born the midwife forgot to tell us how much she weighed, my mum fed for a bottle of milk, my cat was sleeping next to her and she could talk!! Very odd, and me & Darren stole a huge 4x4 car to umm have sex in! , think i might have sex on the brain??

My fingers have swelled too, so rings are off. I have not taken my injection today as been up with contractions, but still only 20 mins apart, but worried that today might be the day! (Im likely being very silly, but dont want to take chance). I was told to stop injecting if i thought i might go into labour.
Any news on Buffy? Hope she's ok.

I didnt get to stock up freezer yesterday so off to do that today.

Hope your all ok, and please dont panic my midwife knows the contractions are every 20 mins, she said as long as they dont go any closer im ok. To be honest i doubt they would stop my labour this far gone anyway. Better finish packing that bag too.
lisa

j20baby · 02/09/2007 10:53

Alice-hope your managing to catch up on your sleep.

lisa-get your bag packed! weird dreams-i keep having rude dreams too, but i have no chance of getting the real thing! keep us informed and good luck

nellie-have you got any friends or family to give you support afterwards? i'm going to be on my own so i suppose i'll just have to get on with it, can't your dp take paternity leave?

i keep waking up in the night thinking i'm in labour, i don't know why as i'm not getting pains or anything i'm really starting to panic about giving birth and actually having the lo, am bidding on a hypnobirthing cd on ebay so if i get that hopefully it may calm me

i'm thinking of painting my downstairs toilet today, its only tiny so shouldn't be too strenuous-i get so bored on a sun when dd is at her dad's.

anyone heard from buffy or LES? hope they're ok.

hi to everyone else

OP posts:
FloriaTosca · 02/09/2007 10:54

Oh Lisa;your dreams!(at least it was you having sex with DH this time!) Hope contractions turn out to be nothing and that LO stays where she is for a little longer, but you are right to stop the blood thinners, I was told the same thing;they limit the use of epidurals etc.....Glad you checked in with the MW...get that bag packed!...Good luck!

No word from Buffy as yet...I've just sent a text..will let you know as soon as I hear anything

Alice sorry you aren't sleeping..hope Ds gave you more than a couple of hours. You too Mrs Fish, glad you have company and help this weekend, it must be such a relief if you aren't getting much sleep [sympathetic emoticon for you both]

Winnie; what a worry for you,...is there absolutely no one who can come and stay in those first few weeks?...failing that would hiring a doula or mothers help, even a nurse, be feasable for a month or so? My cousin was studying childcare when my brother was born and she came and helped my Mum for about 4 hours a day which gave her credits for her course and work experience on her CV...I don't know if students today are still encouraged to do such things but it migh be worth approaching you local college to ask. I do hope you find some help from somewhere.

lisad123 · 02/09/2007 11:16

i rang the local college to "offer" my family to help traina nursery nurse, as i knew how invaluable it was to have a good family when i was training. They would have been very happy but DD is at school, they need a baby and child. Not so much of an issue ifchild is at playgroup part time. worth ringing to offer, help is great

I will be sure to update you all if anything happens.

monalisasmile · 02/09/2007 12:42

Afternoon everyone.

Its hard keeping up with this thread - I barely have time to read any of the others! I only managed to read from yesterday and even struggling to remember most of what was said, so please forgive me if I miss anyone out or overlook anything important.

Another flying visit im afraid, just got back from church and got a few bits to sort out before I go to my brother's for dinner.

Hi to Orange, welcome. You are in good supporting company here and im really impressed with the diversity of knowledge that our fellow expectant mums have on this thread.

chochobnob - know what you mean about the dilemma re your maiden name. Ive agonised this often - dont know why, cos im not even married and DP has shown no indication of asking, but ive decided to keep my maiden name should the need arise! Seems I think about these things when Ive run out of significant things to stress about!

J20 - i can echo your sentiments about your concerns about the delivery. Does anyone else feel that they are more anxious the second time around? I am absolutely p*ing my pants about p*ing myself!

Lisa - I think youve mentioned having psd. I dont know what the symptoms are exactly, but i cant sleep without an excruciating shooting pain in my lower back. Ive had it for about 7 weeks now and it seems to get progressively worse rather than any better. Ive mentioned it to the midwife anf GP but the seem to think its just part of the pregnancy experience. At it worst, i get a massive sharp pain in my outer thigh when I try and turn over in bed. In fact, lying down is probably the most uncomfortable position for me. If i lie on my right, the pain is on my left (and vice versa) when I try and get out of bed. Anyone have any suggestions?

Hi Inzi - lots of water I think. Ive had IBS twice now, but the last time was about 2 years ago. I was reluctant to drink loads cos it seemed to be a never ending cycle of drinking water and passing water, but it was a relief once it had passed.

Ive spent most of this weekend, so far, tidying and washing and ironing. I wouldnt call it a nesting instinct, rather out of necessity as ive left it far too long!

I dont know if its been mentioned, but also discovered that Asda had loads of other offers on. I ended up buying a Chicco baby carrier sling thing, the Tommy Tippee nappy wrapper and a box of Pampers newborn box of jumbo nappies (80); they were £10 each. They also had other things as well inlcuding the Tommy Tippee microwave steriliser and the Johnson's vanity case full of toiletries for the same price. Most of the things are at least half price; for anyone who lives in Herts, the best one is North Watford - biggest in the area apparently, the others Ive tried dont have most of the things that Watford did.

By the way Ejt, is it too late for a 'buddy'? I just wanted to ask, do you allocate them by due date or location? Curious to know whether people meet up as well as text / call.

Im really excited about the chance that Buffy being in labour that im worried that i'll set myself off! Ive been having strong BHs for a while now, but these latest ones immobilise me!

Hope everyone enjoys the rest of the weekend. x

ejt1764 · 02/09/2007 13:50

v. quickly - I've allowed myself on to have a look at how everybody is in the middle of my frantic preparations for going back to school tomorrow - not helped by the fact that I didn't sleep too well last night - I must have the same sleep patterns as you alice - every time you post about a bad night, I'm the same!!

Anyway, monalisa - it's not too late to have a text / email buddy - I try to allocate them so there's a gap in due dates, and people are at least in the same 1/2 of the country ... email me at eirian dot thomas at gmail dot com and let me know ...

mn name
real name
due date
location
mobile number (your email address I get from your email!)

and apologies to anybody who has had multiple emails from me recently - Apricott got the same one 8 times ... I think my server must be playing up - I definitely only pressed send once!

and thanks to everybody who's said they don't mind their circle being extended ... the more the merrier!

Right, off to agonise over the agenda for the departmental meeting tomorrow ... we've got 1 1/2 hours for the meeting, and it's the only one I get with the department before I go off on Maternity leave, and I've got my cover there AND a new member of the department (who also happens to be a newly qualified teacher!) ... got to sort the priorities!

Have a good end to your weekend all!
