Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Good afternoon everyone. Well my plans for today have totally been thrown awry. Ds woke up this morning with croup like symptoms so I took him to the docs at 11.30, waited half an hour to be seen only for the doc to then send me to childrens emergency ward to get him checked out. Left there about 2.45 and managed to get a bit of shopping in, and got home about 20 mins ago. They gave ds a shot of steroids in medicine form and he now seems much better. Just been told to give him medised and keep an eye on him, if he gets worse to take him straight back. He is full of life now though, even though he has missed his nap. I'm shattered on the other hand So much for housework today, plus he has had to miss his nursery session.

I've got my next mw appt on thursday morning, do they take bloods again if you have shown that iron levels are low previously?

muppetgirl · 28/08/2007 18:41

J20 ? Really sorry to hear about your cat

Lisa ? I am hoping that you and lo are okay x

Unicorn ? I would try not to worry about weights as my mw friend says that?s the only think that they really can?t predict. Look at all the threads on here about ?they did my baby was gong to be 9lb and it turned out 6! Re the hospital bag I had 2 as to not get confused (which is a real possibility as it?s a confusing time!) 1 for me and one for baby. I was massive with ds1 and kept asking is he big? To which all (bar the last) mw/consultant said no and he was 9lb 1oz and this lo I have been told is big so I?m hoping it works in reverse and I?ll have a nice little one!

Floria - I hope you had a good birthday!

Ejt ? Contractions!! I?m glad they stopped and all is better. Sorry to hear about the puffy ness. I?ve had to take my rings off and now can?t get my wedding ring off (silly woman for not taking it off when I could!) hands hurt a little and are getting the ?fizz? j20 mentioned.

Mrs Fish ? I saw mw today and she said re iron levels (mine is 9) that they would take them again at the right time as they can?t do much even if they are still low as I?m on 2 tablets per day. They could put me on three but the side effects can be awful. (I am in pain atm when I go for number 2?s but at least not constipated!!)

We had a lovely weekend stayed at b/f?s mum and step dad?s and had a really relaxing time sitting in their garden, drinking tea whilst Ollie played. They had a 15 month old staying and Ollie played with him brilliantly and even had patients with him which is a good sign? Sunday we drove home and then friends visited. They are the ones who had an ectopic pregnancy before Christmas when I had my miscarriage. They then went on to get pregnant at the same time again as us but they miscarried. But now they are prgt again!! 7 weeks atm and I hope she can now get to 12 weeks 

Ollie was well behaved apart from Sunday night when he was shouting ?I?m not tired, I won?t close my eyes? and he was bashing and crashing around his room. Dh thought he heard a smashing sound but wasn?t sure. Later when we checked him we found he had tipped a toy basket, put it upside down and used it to climb on his chest of drawers (a tall one!!) he then sat on the top and knocked his Christening money box off?
He knew what he?d done as when he came into our room on mon morning we asked him and he said he?d smashed it.

?and I thought we were over the climbing phase!

Mw app today went well. Ollie now currently in bed and no noise/crashing/bashing or shouting so good evening so far!!!

MrsFish - I really hope that your ds feels better soon ... and that you have chance to rest properly!

No idea on the iron levels though, sorry!

The lady who is going to be my doula came round this afternoon - and we had a long discussion about everything! She's now a student midwife too, so knows her stuff! Felt very reassured ...

BUT learnt a utterly shocking statistic which isn't broadcast by the hospitals ... apparently around 80% of inductions end in a C section for one reason or another ... I really think that something needs to change!

ChocolateHobnob · 28/08/2007 19:39

Hi all

Sorry to hear about your little one, Mrs Fish - hope he's getting better!

Lisa, good luck tomorrow at the hospital again.

Apricott, I am starting to wonder if maybe I could knit. But I was a terrible knitter at school... no reason to assume I'd be able to make anything decent now!

I like all the names you're all debating! I'm interested in name shortening - my name is 2 syllables and has obvious abbreviated forms but no-one has ever shortened it. I wonder why! It seems like everyone else's names get shortened.

And sorry about all the aches and pains everyone's having. SPD just sounds awful! I guess October is getting closer and closer and we have to bear that in mind.

I have another mw apptment tomorrow. I have no idea what position LO is in - twice now she has said 'cephalic', but I feel movements all over the place and really can't tell, so hope it is still cephalic. How do they know if bub is anterior or posterior by the way? do any of you experienced people know? and will mw be able to say tomorrow?

Anyway had a good day with family, dinner last night worked really well (I know it sounded impressive but was v easy in fact - it has to be these days...) and now we're tired and vegging. Back to work tomorrow but at least it's a short week...

Take care all and good luck with a good night's sleep!

muppetgirl · 28/08/2007 19:48

We're going for Henry btw. Can't really shorten that...

We chose Oliver for ds1 as it can be shortened as I love Ollie for a little boy but Oliver is a lovely man's name.

oh inzi .... big hugs to you!

Chochobnob ... cephalic is the magic word - first babies tend to get there earlier than subsequent ones ... and it means head down.
anterior means that their back is facing out - you'll be able to feel hard bits at the front - posterior means that you may not be able to feel much of baby ... and you may have a dip in your belly over your belly button. There's some really useful information here - the tips they have for getting the babe in the right position are really helpful (but most are impossible / agonising to do with spd!)

ChocolateHobnob · 28/08/2007 20:39

Hi Inzi, just wanted to send a big virtual hug. My grandmother's 91 and has fallen twice since June and ended up in A and E twice... I was so worried about her and I really know how you feel. But try and remember if they are in their 80s they've been through a lot by now and they're a lot stronger than you think. Plus the incentive of a great grandchild will spur them on. But I do understand and I hope your grandmother gets better soon.

Muppet, I like Henry and Oliver! Our neighbour's little boy is called Oliver and he's gorgeous. Does that mean you know lo is a boy?

muppetgirl · 28/08/2007 20:44

Yep, he's a boy. Henry William...

Inzi - I am so sorry to hear about your grandparents

ChocolateHobnob · 28/08/2007 20:54

Ejt - thanks. There is a very discernible dip! Back on all fours for me, then (is it me or is that position hideously uncomfortable??). At least at the moment it's cephalic not breech...

lisad123 · 28/08/2007 21:02

Evenin all. Choc, my midwife told me on monday that my LO is LOA, so shes on left side with her back to my front, with her head down I think they start checking about now, as they like to know if LO is back to back too.
Thanks for all the support, hopefully will have a better idea of whats happening tomorrow

Funny enough, we dont shorten Tanisha's name, but my mum shortens it to Tani and her cousins & friends call her nisha or sha. I dont mind really, no doubt someone will shorten this LO name to Jas

Hope your all ok today and im spending out a good night sleep vibe.
Hugs

muppetgirl · 28/08/2007 21:07

I was told cleaning bottom cupboards and shower trays was a good thing to turn the baby.

...didn't work for me though ds1 was still back to back!!

j20baby · 28/08/2007 21:34

hi all

Inzi-so sorry to hear about your Grandma -your really going through the mill atm, sending you big big hugs.

pretty sure i've decided on Shannon for the name-maybe Hope as a middle name

from this

''By MrsFish on Tue 28-Aug-07 08:50:00
J20 - I really like Shannon
Hope you enjoyed your lobster, and Happy Birthday again''

before i clicked on the thread, it looked like mrsf had written 'Shannon Hope' and it looked good

unless i give birth on a Mon and she may end up being called Tannisha-didn't know that btw Lisa

got a blood pressure monitor today from Lloyds Pharmacy, no more going to hospital for me due to swelling and headache, ha, they're not getting me back in there for 6 hours.

sorry people aren't sleeping well, i'm not too bad atm, apart from waking to get drinks and go to the loo.

mrsfish-hope ds feels better soon, and you get some rest, they probably should take your iron levels to check them, mention it when you go, i sometimes have to remind them.

muppet-i stronly advise you to ask for liquid iron, i was on tablets for months, the side effects really got me down, ended up getting the liquid a few weeks ago, and its brill, can go to the loo without crying, so my piles aren't as bad either.

ejt- i'm very about your doula-doesn't look like i'm getting one, so i'll have to make do with whoever is around at the time, if anyone, although my brother informed me he's going to stop drinking after Sep 16th (his birthday) in case i go into labour, will have to hold on till then then!

i've nearly finished packing hospital bag and labour bag today, just need to get measured for nursing bra's and add them.

i've got an appointment with the specialist tommorrow about my iron, hopefully they'll check to see if lo's head is engaged yet, she wasn't last week.

well, i'm off to bed to get comfy and read, hi to everyone i've missed off.

Hiya all

well I am now resettled in old flat for time being while dp moves our stuff to new place....have put few pics on my profile...toooooo many to post em all lol. When ya all seen them have some fab holiday pics to post as well...must learn how to add a link to my flicker page!!!!

On a sadder note have spent all day sobbing and refusing to move as been told i can't take my baby Alfie...he is 3 yrs old and so calm but landlady says NO!!! soz should explain Alfie is my cat. So now have to find him a home where I know he will be looked after....so anyone want a very lovely grey cat who is almost 3 yrs old as soppy as can be and shares your dinner??? he loves a roast on a sunday lol but don't forget the gravy. He loves to lay on floor and be gently pushed around like he is a football...ok so he is as mad as me. Also he is totally babied, loves lasagne, spag bol and all sorts of food. He is mainly an indoor cat but has always gone on the back balcony to sleep in sun and use his litter tray...

Anyway I won't upset myself any further but if any loving person on here wants a gorgeous cat please email me.

LES

j20baby · 28/08/2007 21:51

ooh les, liking the new flat-love the sink in your bathroom.

would love your cat, due to mine getting run over last week but still got our other 2 and your too far away anyway i think. mind you, i did drive past a farm yesterday saying 'kittens for sale', was very very tempted!

emj23 · 28/08/2007 22:03

Thank you all for telling me how inaccurate the whole bump measuring thing is - I had my appointment today and LO is not too big and perfectly healthy. She is breech, but still time for her to turn.

Ta again for cheering me up and calming me down

TheLadyEvenstar · 28/08/2007 22:13

J20 where are you?????

j20baby · 28/08/2007 22:22

all the way in Hull LES, please don't try to persuade me to have the kitty, the road outside my house is too busy and i couldn't bear to take your cat and for him to get run over. try posting on the For Sale section, someone closer to you may want him or what about any family?

Em-glad everything's ok and you feel better

right, really am off to bed now!

nighty night

Hi LES

Do you have a pic of your cat? Whats he like with other cats? I have 2 already, but love to give a good home.
Did you get the belt i sent? has it been any help?
Lisa

unicorn · 28/08/2007 22:28

I have been on a mega cleaning frenzy .. don't know if it's nesting (bit early) but have had a bit of time as the kids are away at grandparents (first time in a billion years)
Have developed a bit of a fetish (?) for cleaning fluids generally but am just totally in awe of Bicarb of soda.... why has it taken me this long to discover??

I really am very exciting aren't I?

anyone like these names.. (changed my mind about 3 letter names!)
Alexis
Charlotte
Keira
Francesca
Natasha
or for boy...
Adam
Matthew
er stuck after that

MrsFish · 28/08/2007 22:29

Oooh J20 - I love that, Shannon Hope

LES your flat looks lovely

Big hugs to you Inzi - sorry to hear your news, hope everything works out.

I'm hoping ds will be better tomorrow, he seemed a little better by the time \I put him to bed, but I can still hear him coughing upstairs and he sounds like a sealion luckily he hasn't been ill in himself, he has still been smiling and playing, just sounds bad. Doc reckons it is probably a mild case of croup, but to keep an eye on him because it is possible it could be stridor which is this if anyone is interested.

MrsFish · 28/08/2007 22:30

Unicorn - I love Charlotte, if we were having a girl that is what we were going to call her

As for the boy's name, I like Adam

lisad123 · 28/08/2007 22:31

Unicorn I wanted Alexis, for my dd but changed our minds, love the name though
Lisa

greedygreedyguzzler · 28/08/2007 23:05
