Does anyone want to start a thread for people due the end of May? I miss having people to chat to on the conception boards!

I'm 31, this will be dc#1 and i got my bfp on Sunday which was cycle 9!

@TwinklyTwinkle Yeah they said i would get a letter in the post but didn't say how long it would be!

@sao81 Good that your little one is quite independent! Hope you're feeling better today!

@Raindancer411 Hope the doctor gives you something. Have you tried peppermint tea?

OP posts:
Raindancer411 · 23/10/2019 11:14

@Mumofbun I have tried peppermint tea and ginger and lemon tea too. I am counting down until my appointment later

sao81 · 23/10/2019 12:05

So had a scan today as had some bleeding, confirmed I'm cooking 1 very healthy, wriggly baby! Dated me 9 weeks exactly which is the same as midwife so 27th May 🥰

TwinklyTwinkle · 23/10/2019 13:46

@sao81 How exciting!! What an amazing picture! Glad everything is going ok!

sao81 · 23/10/2019 20:09

@twinklytwinkle thank you! Now to wait another 4 weeks for the next peek

mumofbun · 24/10/2019 13:36

That's so exciting @sao81 - obviously not the bleed i'm glad that was ok! But our first scan photo :)

I haven't had a letter yet but an appointment has shown up on my app for the 15th which i assume must be my scan!!!

OP posts:
sao81 · 24/10/2019 22:26

@mumofbun thank you! And an app? I wish our hospital was so fancy!

mumofbun · 25/10/2019 15:04

@sao81 yeah I was surprised too haha I think it's rolling out across the whole of the NHS as my MIL is a nurse and has to do things on an iPad now...but the hospital I'm going to has a new maternity unit so that's probably why they already have it. If I'd chosen the other hospital nearby it would've been paper notes!

OP posts:
sao81 · 25/10/2019 15:57

@mumofbun an app would be so much easier. With my first I had lots of reduced movement so ended up with a huge folder full of notes was a nightmare remembering to take it every time I had to go the MAU or for an appointment!

mumofbun · 28/10/2019 14:39

If you're working have you decided about maternity leave yet? i've been trying to work it out and although initially i thought i would take 6/9 months, it doesn't seem to make financial sense not to take 12 months. By the time i pay for childcare the extra money coming in is quite little!

OP posts:
TwinklyTwinkle · 28/10/2019 16:10

@mumofbun I keep thinking about this too.. I really don't know! I kinda want to take a year because everyone says they're only young once, but not sure whether it makes more financial sense to take 9 months? So hard! I want to drop a day preferably when I come back too, so I'm probably going to have a chat with my manager nearer the time to decide what will work best!

I've been advised to start looking and calling around childcare places after the first scan because they fill up so quickly! Has anyone else heard this? It seems so early!

mumofbun · 28/10/2019 16:18

@TwinklyTwinkle I've had a look into a couple of childcare places but didn't think to contact them until the baby was born. I suppose it depends how soon you will need them and how long the waiting lists are...maybe i will email them and ask what their waiting times are like! I work at a university and they have their own place but the rates are only available at request which i didn't want to do until i'd formally done all the HR stuff...

I've done calculations based on the daily rates of two places nearby though and the money i will be down across the year based of different amounts of maternity leave. If i take 9 months off instead of a year i'm only about 1.5k better off...if i work out how much that is per day of work it's pitiful. Around £24. My sums might be wrong but i don't think so...

OP posts:
TwinklyTwinkle · 28/10/2019 16:32

Oo I work at a university too! It also has a childcare place, but its suprisingly quite expensive compared to other place! I think its hugely in demand too..

Good idea with childcare places, I might have a little check of waiting list times by email too!

Argh so tricky.. for 1.5k I'd say just take a year.. Do you have any family support nearby to take a day or so to ease the cost a bit afterwards?

mumofbun · 28/10/2019 17:55

Oh wouldn't it be funny if we were in the same place @TwinklyTwinkle (I'm in Scotland). I think I will get my HR form done and then enquire with the on site one!

OP posts:
mumofbun · 28/10/2019 17:58

Oh I forgot to say, lots of family near by luckily but don't like to assume they would make up for childcare! My parents first grandchild and don't want them to feel like they are going back to the start with kids (my dad is fairly old and still works a lot) and ILs both work full time though MIL is baby mad so would def help if she could!

Raindancer411 · 28/10/2019 18:25

As if next year it looks like my hubby's work offer him 6 months off on pay 🧐 Need to look into that

mumofbun · 28/10/2019 19:00

@Raindancer411 oh that's amazing!! We are lucky my husband is a teacher so will get 6 weeks off just after babe comes hopefully!

sao81 · 29/10/2019 06:10

@mumofbun I've already decided in my own head about mat leave. As I'm in an office going to try and work until 38 weeks, although last time had to stop at 36 weeks due to back pain. So will go off mid-may, due end of may, will take the 9 months then a month annual leave before returning, so be returning march/april time. I'm really lucky as we get 6 months full pay maternity, then 3 months statutory. I'm dropping my little.girl from 5 days to 3 days in nursery and saving that extra money to cover when on statutory.

mumofbun · 29/10/2019 11:20

@sao81 Seems very organised! Lucky you with 6 months full - i get 4 months so fairly generous too. I think i'm going to do similar to you as if i take a year i have no idea when i would use all my holidays! Going to try and be off until the end of the Easter break 2021 so i have time off with my husband and then head back :) I still have a lot of holidays this year too and my parents go away for 2 weeks at the start of May - i was meant to be looking after all their animals and my sister is going to have to do most of that now but think i'll take holiday anyway and help where i can!

OP posts:
sao81 · 30/10/2019 18:54

@mumofbun yeah id save as much holiday leave as you can, I've already used all of mine now until april as ive got Christmas off, so will be saving the full 5 weeks ill get if I can

TwinklyTwinkle · 03/11/2019 17:56

Hi everyone, how are you all doing?
I reached 11 weeks yesterday and feel my nausea and heartburn is really notching up at the moment and I'm struggling 😢 has anyone else experienced this? Also starting to get quite anxious about the 12 week scan.. I've heard sickness is a good sign but my mind is working overtime at the moment!

sao81 · 03/11/2019 18:31

@twinklytwinkle I've had a few days were the sickness has calmed but today its hit me like a tonne of bricks! I'm 10+5 today got to wait until 20th for my scan. My daughter turns 2 this week so that should keep me distracted

TwinklyTwinkle · 03/11/2019 19:05

@sao81 Same here, mine calmed and I think I thought it was all starting to get better but I was wrong 😭
Aw I hope you have a lovely time this week celebrating your daughter's birthday!

Raindancer411 · 03/11/2019 19:39

@TwinklyTwinkle I am around the same as you and am finding the same. It's horrid!!

TwinklyTwinkle · 03/11/2019 19:50

@Raindancer411 Sorry you're feeling awful too! I'm so grateful for this group cos I just keep wondering if what I'm feeling is normal! I've just spent most of the afternoon in bed sad because I feel so awful 😭 such a baby haha x
