Hey all!

Looks like we filled up the first thread pretty fast! Took me a while to realise why I couldn't send a message.

This is the first thread I've ever created, so hopefully I've done it right.

I'm going to tag the most recent users that commented, so sorry for a lot of the people that I miss. Hopefully everyone will find this.

Got the results back from my harmony test are they are fantastic - so relieved - also had a scan last week and everything looks great - have my NHS scan this Friday and I will be 12+6 and then I can finally start telling family etc and even start to enjoy this pregnancy xx

Sunshine8888 · 05/10/2019 11:41

Just out of interest @Ruthsoph do you have a scan before the harmony test? I’d hate to pay out £400 and then realise there was something wrong 😬

Sunshine8888 · 05/10/2019 11:42

@ruthsoph Sorry also meant to add that I’m glad all your results were good 😊 what a relief. Did you find out the gender? Hope your scan goes well on Friday x

123456kent · 05/10/2019 14:08

@Dawn99 my heart also suddenly sometimes races very fast, not linked to any worries or stresses or physical exertion, so I do think palpiations are a pregnancy thing.
I’m due 24th or 25th April! Scan is in 2 weeks time. Have completely hated this past month or so, the nausea has been truly unbearable. I thought I felt bad with my daughter but this has been something else!! I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s a boy.
Good luck to everyone at their upcoming scans!

Ruthsoph · 05/10/2019 14:12

@Sunshine8888 yes you have a scan first to ensure all is well - no I didn't find out the sex as want it as a surprise but you can find out if you want xx

Serendipity001 · 05/10/2019 16:08

Hi ladies,

I've been a bit quiet on here lately had so much going on in my home and work life. Had a quick catchup to the messages and so nice to see everyone's scans it makes it so much more real! So happy for you all!

I wondered if I can have some opinions. I received my hospital combined screening results which were 1:10,000 low risk. I thought it was pretty good but I also read up that there can be lots of false negatives with the hospital confined test. I don't know if it's just better shelling out for the Harmony. Those that did it, was it because of your hospital results or would you do it with my results?

Sorry if it's a really stupid question but I'm 36 and first time pregnant so all of this is so new to me and google searching makes me more anxious! I don't want make the wrong choice so would appreciate your opinions x

Realitysucks · 05/10/2019 16:48

Hi Ladies, do you mind if I join. I am 41, 11 weeks and due 26 April. This is second child( first DS is 17!).

After 2 failed rounds of ivf, got a natural BFP in August, 3 days before we were due to start round 3! Currently waiting for NIPT results and bricking it!

Realitysucks · 05/10/2019 17:04

@Serendipity001 Hi, I think it’s a really personal thing. I’ve had two scans already as classed as high risk. My screening scan is on 14th October but we chose to have NIPT as soon as we could. Main reason was that I’m 41 and secondly I think it all depends what you would do with the results. We wanted to know as early as possible if something was wrong so we can make an informed choice if required. Also because I just can’t seem to relax into this pregnancy. We have been trying for 2 years, I’ve had 2 miscarriages both at 5+5 so whilst I’ve got further than before I still am not convinced this one is going to be ok. We also wanted a more accurate test so if we were to go for further testing then there would be more reason than nhs results. Whilst the NIPT is not a guaranteed result it is more accurate.

Ruthsoph · 05/10/2019 18:54

@Realitysucks gosh reading your story is literally mirroring mine - I am 42, have a daughter of 4 - been trying for 2 years and had 2 miscarriages both around the 6.5 week mark - so this time had a scan at 7.5 weeks and then the harmony test last week at 10.5 weeks - I had it due to my age and also as I wanted every base covered to ensure nothing negative - have my NHS scan this Friday but still super cautious but hopefully after Friday I can start to relax a little xx

jessie0222 · 05/10/2019 19:30

I keep seeing everyone talk about the results I have my scan Wednesday I am so nervous something is wrong had a lot of cramps and do they tell you if the measurements are okay at the scan? And then you just wait for results or..... my first pregnancy and everything is very overwhelming. I feel better just reading the posts

Realitysucks · 05/10/2019 19:31

@Ruthsoph aww so pleased for you on results. I had a viability scan at 6+5 and 10+3 with NIPT. We ended up paying privately as NHS have been a bit rubbish here. How long did it take for your results? Mine was done on Wednesday and they said it went to a London at 12pm, the guide is 7-10 days but I just want to get it over with now. Really trying to not think about it. I really can’t actually believe im pregnant, like you said I am hoping I can relax after 14th and 12 week scan.

nicoletia · 05/10/2019 19:33

@Serendipity001 what was your NT measurement? If it wasn't high then I wouldn't think that the result of your test is false negative. On a separate note, how long did you wait for your combined screening results for? I've been waiting for almost a week now and still nothing Confused

I have today been told that I'm Rh negative. Not something I wanted to hear where I know my DH is Rh positive and googling it doesn't particularly help!

Realitysucks · 05/10/2019 19:36

@jessie022, my clinic was brilliant with my tests. We had ours at the same place we had gone for the Ivf. Our consultant spent ages on the scan doing all measurement and different angles showing us baby moving and arms and legs it was amazing. The scan was internal so they could see much more. The only thing she wouldn't do was listen to heartbeat. Apparently the probe gives of heat when recording so they don’t do it anymore. I was convinced something would be wrong as had really bad cramps a few days before, but everything was fine. Fingers crossed for you.

Ruthsoph · 05/10/2019 19:55

@Realitysucks I had the test last Saturday and for the results yesterday so 6 days - I had to pay too as NHS here don't do it xx

HettiSpagetti · 05/10/2019 20:24

Not posted for a long time, as been feeling so rotten, but much better the last few weeks. Thought I would add my results for everyone to compare.

“12”week scan on Monday, NT 1.3mm at 13 weeks, got the combined results today: 1:3300 for downs and 1:9800 for the others. Not as good as last time, but I’m 38 and going on age alone I think the downs risk is around 1:200 so hopefully nothing to worry about.

To add, the results came really quickly this time, it was easy 3 weeks last time, but I was told to expect a phone call in 3-5 days if high risk both times, so I assumed all was well.

Attached scan, looked like a boy at the time but now I’m wondering...what do you all think?

jessie0222 · 05/10/2019 21:35

@Realitysucks that must have been amazing to see all of that! Glad your scan went well! And thank you. I'm hoping to feel more relaxed & start to enjoy it after the scan. x

Lovely scan picture!

Dawn99 · 05/10/2019 21:40

Thanks for the replies folks. Glad to hear that the heart palpitations are not abnormal. I’m just worrying a little as it is 12 years since I was last pregnant and I’m almost 40 now.

Pip231018 · 06/10/2019 05:02

I'm currently 12+2 and still taking my first trimester pregnacare. Is everyone carrying on with folic acid or just switching to vitamin D?

For the first time in this 12 weeks I didn't fall asleep before 10pm last night, wondering if symptoms are easing? How is fatigue for everyone else?

Realitysucks · 06/10/2019 18:06

@Pip231018 I’m so incredibly tired still. I’m a week behind you and still asleep by 10pm and having at least 2 hours during the day and more at weekends.

ChickenNugget86 · 07/10/2019 23:57

Hi everyone hope your all well.

I got my 12 week scan letter through last week for the 18th didn't think anything of it. Then to my surprise I got a call from a midwife inviting me to my local hospital for an early scan and discussion. After speaking to midwife on my first appointment she said she would pass on all my medical history and double check my Folic Acid, aspirin measurements etc...

I went for the early scan on Thursday and they couldn't find anything to begin with, I was expecting the worse. Ended up having an internal scan and thankfully I could see the baby on the screen with a strong heartbeat. I thought I was 10 weeks 4 days but from the measurements she said it was around 9 weeks 6days.

She told me not to worry but I'd have to come back in to see a Dr next week to talk about my medical history. I'm a very anxious person and started to wonder what would go wrong.

I went today and I can't fault the medical staff but feel so low. Because of my weight and the fact I had a mini stroke when I was younger and how heart attacks run in my family I've been told I am very high risk and my Folic Acid has gone up to 5mg, aspirin 150mg and I now have to take tinzaparin injections every day into my tummy. I was quite overwhelmed with the news. I am glad everything is ok with the baby but feel like I've let my self down with my weight. I have such a phobia of needles and the thought of doing this every day till July next year is freaking me out.

Sorry for the long post but I haven't told anyone about being pregnant other than hubby and my boss in work.

Does anyone have tips for doing the injections from when my hubby cant do it? Thanks for listening x

Passionfruit20 · 08/10/2019 07:36

@nicoletia - my mum in law had the RH positive/negative issue and she had two children just fine. They then told her not to get pregnant again but she did, and her third baby was premature but also fine. So it’s not a deal breaker, and I think much less of an issue with your first.

@ChickenNugget86 - my tip with needles (I am an IVF’er so I’ve had loads) is to numb the spot with ice for a few minutes first. If it’s one of the pen ones and you’ve numbed with ice, I found you barely feel it going in. If it’s not a pen (eg. It’s one you do on an angle) then those are slightly trickier, but take a deep breath right before and then slowly release your breath as you slide the needle in. It helps you relax and not tense (the more relaxed, the less likely to hurt). The first few times are the worst and then eventually you get totally casual about it - promise!!

Sunshine8888 · 08/10/2019 18:15

Ladies, for those who have had their 12 weeks scan was anyone offered the IONA test for a fee? I am trying to establish the difference between this and the harmony test.

Whatelsecouldibecalled · 08/10/2019 18:56

@sunshine8888 I have had my 12 week scan but not sure what the Iona test is?

Realitysucks · 08/10/2019 19:08

Hey ladies well I got my NIPT results super quick at 6 days! All is fine and negative! Plus we are having a boy ! (OH is thrilled) so glad bubs is healthy and so worth the money for peace of mind. 12 week scan on Monday!

@ChickenNugget86 I’ve done thousands of injections this year as two failed rounds of ivf and having to inject progesterone now twice a day till Monday. I was petrified of needles before this. In the beginning I got OH to do it, then he went away for work and I had to do it myself! If it’s subcutaneous in your tummy then don’t go too low! You also realise different drugs have different consistencies and have to be done slower. It all depends whether you have pre made pens or have to make the needles yourself like I did. Advice is go slow and take your time, it really isn’t that bad and gets loads easier!

Sunshine8888 · 08/10/2019 20:00

IONA is also a NIPT test, I’m not sure what’s the difference to the harmony but it’s offered by the hospital for a fee 🤔
