Hey all!

Looks like we filled up the first thread pretty fast! Took me a while to realise why I couldn't send a message.

This is the first thread I've ever created, so hopefully I've done it right.

I'm going to tag the most recent users that commented, so sorry for a lot of the people that I miss. Hopefully everyone will find this.

@Ruthsoph I’m 39 now. Will be 40 when lo arrives. I am hopeful for a healthy result from this. Can I ask what’s the nibt test?

@Greenwhale yay! Finally a date twin 🎉 after reading over 50 pages of April posts I was beginning to think I would never find one 😂😂

BristolBear · 21/09/2019 09:45

Good morning everyone, just thought I'd pop on and say hello - battling work and nausea has kept me pretty quiet here and IRL.

I have noticed that it is starting to ease off the past couple of days, I'm 11+6 today so fingers crossed that means I'm getting past it now. Anyone know if nausea just completely stops one day or kind of fades off?

Wondering if this is a trick and I'll be back to feeling awful again in a couple of days. Feeling just very slightly nauseous today.

I've seems few people have their scans on 30th September, that's my scan date too! Feeling excited and nervous, next week is going to feel so long.

Anyways, I hope you're all doing well and happy. Enjoy the weekend :)

happymrsc · 21/09/2019 11:42

@BristolBear so the reason the symptoms wear off is because the placenta takes over doing what the hormones have been, so your hormone levels decrease. So it probably depends how sensitive each person is to hormonal changes as to whether it stops or fades slowly? I've heard different experiences from different women I've looked after. Here's hoping that's the end of it for you!! I am counting down the days to feeling not nauseous!!! Am 10+3 now so hoping it's not too long.

BristolBear · 21/09/2019 17:00

Thank you @happymrsc. I'm hoping it is too, although I have had some nausea waves since I wrote that message this morning (typical!).

Fingers crossed that placenta kicks in for the both of us very soon!!

Hi everyone, i have my 12 week scan on Thursday and my anxiety is through the roof! Im 11+2 today and the past two days i havent felt as nauseous as i had been. Im so scared on getting to my appointment and something being wrong. 😩 i found out last time at 11 weeks that the sac was empty and im just so scared of it happening again!

Ive had scans in epu at 8 weeks and 9+6 weeks this time and all looked healthy and baby measuring to size but i just cant help but be scared.

Has anyone any tips on coping with the anxiety/ fear of something going wrong? Or dis anyone elses nausea seem to leave at around 11 weeks? I cant stop crying and i think im scaring my DH aswell (who is trying to be so positive)

MissEC · 21/09/2019 19:50

Hi all

I've been watching these posts for weeks now but not felt brave enough to post!
I'm 11+6 today according to the midwife at my booking appointment, although I think it's more likely 11+2 so not a major difference!
My scan is booked for Wednesday & I am petrified I will get there & they will say there is nothing there!
I've had very minimal symptoms other than tiredness & sore boobs although they have got better, now I'm wanting to eat everything in sight!! Initially I thought I was just lucky, now I'm thinking the worst!!
These 12 weeks seem to be the longest 12 weeks ever!

Serendipity001 · 21/09/2019 22:38

Hi all,

I spoke too soon a few days ago when I said the nausea and tiredness seems to have gone. It did go for 4 days but then returned relentlessly yesterday and today so hoping tomorrow is a better day 😐

My scan is next Thursday too! Seems a couple of us have it on the same day!

We started looking at car seats and strollers today - anyone purchased theirs? So many options I don't have a clue what I should get!

lannacorrea · 21/09/2019 23:18

Hi, can I join? I'll be due in 5th if April, live in London and going to UCLH.

AMALDO · 22/09/2019 12:09

Hi all, first post here too but I've been lurking a while. I'm 11+1 and first scan is 30th also so there will be a few pics here that day. I'm also nervous due to age and previous MMC but all symptoms seem to be consistent. I'm looking forward to just being able to relax a little and enjoy this pregnancy.

Ruthsoph · 22/09/2019 18:55

@Dawn99 NIBT is a blood test you can have that will tell you 99.9% if your child will have Edwards or Downs Syndrome it's private and costs around £400 but yesterday I had my midwife meeting and told her I was having this and she said that's why they started doing 12 weeks scans to detect these problems and it was originally designed for older women so now I am in 2 minds
What are everyone's thoughts on this? X

happymrsc · 22/09/2019 19:37

@Ruthsoph it may interest you to know the NIPT was meant to be rolled out on the NHS about 10 months ago but it all stalled because of the extra lab space needed that they couldn't source. So yes, whilst that's true, it was meant to be available to everybody by now (where I worked we actually started explaining to some women it was hopefully going to be available to them but then were told to stop a few weeks later when they realised the issues) and the accuracy is a lot higher. It's still classed as 'screening' not diagnostic so they can't say it's 100% but it's damn close.

LokiCat · 22/09/2019 20:21

Hi ladies! Hope you've all had a great weekend :)
We had our early scan today and all is well! Baby has a strong heartbeat and is measuring 9w3ds, EDD 23/04 😁 I actually teared up when they put it up on the TV screen, it was so lovely to see!

Feeling so much better now about things. After worrying all week, my nausea came back with a vengeance yesterday.

Good luck to all those that are due to have their 12 week scan this coming week. Sorry to hear you've been feeling anxious, but fingers crossed all will be well and you'll get to see your little beans again!! ❤️

Welcome to everyone new as well! 😊

Hi, I'm 9+0, 3rd child. I've forgotten how tiring the first trimester is

EmilyJ1234 · 22/09/2019 21:54

Congrats @LokiCat on the scan! I had my early scan today measuring a bit in front at 8 weeks 5 days!
It makes it seem so real now doesn't it? And made me feel so much better! If the sickness would just do one now I'd feel fantastic!!

April 2020 Babies - Thread 2!
Sunshine8888 · 22/09/2019 22:13

Congrats @LokiCat, glad all is well! I have my next scan on Saturday. Feeling nervous as still don’t feel that pregnant 😬 sickness has stayed away thankfully but I just hope with everything in me that all is well

Dawn99 · 22/09/2019 22:39

@Ruthsoph yeah the doctor was telling me about that test but she called it by another name. She said there are very low odds of having a genetic issue even at my age (>1%) and the test is really only worthwhile if the result will be acted on. It’s very expensive and the accuracy has been doubted as there are many cases of false results from what I was reading. I still haven’t fully decided. I know the internet has more of the exceptions than the rules. Makes it very hard to know what’s best.

al2616 · 22/09/2019 22:41

I had an early scan (measuring 10+3) and NIPT today. I am really thankful that we are in a position where we can afford the £400 test. I am so worried about everything (first baby, no clue what we're doing) so I want as much information as possible! Will get the results in 2 weeks and I can't wait to find out if it is a boy or girl! They always give a scan with the NIPT to test if it is a viable pregnancy before doing the expensive blood tests. I was so worried that I had been making the whole thing up, I was actually almost surprised when an actual baby appeared on the screen! So relieved though.

Good luck to everyone else with your upcoming scans. X

al2616 · 22/09/2019 22:57

In terms of the accuracy of the NIPT test (I'm a bit of a statistics geek)

If you get a negative result then it is incredibly unlikely that the baby has the genetic condition (

happymrsc · 22/09/2019 23:38

@al2616 that's interesting about the false positives. Knew about the accuracy of the negatives but didn't know about the rate of false positives.

Regardless of type of test it's such a worry isn't it. We're really back and forth on whether to get it. Doesn't help that we're from catholic families (but aren't really religious ourselves) and it definitely wouldn't be the done thing to act on anything (not saying that would influence our decision as it's very personal but certainly another pressure)

Anybody else having a nightmare with thrush?? I've got it for the 4th time since I found out 😩😩😩

LokiCat · 23/09/2019 06:58

Morning all 😊

@EmilyJ1234 thank you! Congrats to you too, lovely scan photo! Looks like they love being head down Grin
Yeah, it's crazy to think there's actually a baby inside moving around! I'm in two minds about the nausea. Feel awful when it's here but then get worried when it's not 🙈

@Sunshine8888 thanks lovely! I hope all goes well on Saturday for you. Fingers crossed you're just one of the lucky ones with no sickness :)

Hope you all have a brilliant Monday! It's a very grey day here.

Hello all, haven't posted for a while but had an early scan yesterday at 9 weeks. Saw baby wriggling away and a good heartbeat. Dating scan is on the 22nd so may book a private one before then not sure yet.

Has anyone got any advice for sickness and nausea? I'm struggling to keep the vitamin folic acid down because I take it with breakfast. Nausea is pretty much all day .

girlanonymous · 23/09/2019 13:40

And there's baby at 9 weeks. Didn't realise they moved that much this early.

happymrsc · 23/09/2019 13:57

@girlanonymous I have found that as I can't predict when I'm going to feel nauseous I'm better off taking it right before I go to sleep, seems to work for me! Hope you enjoyed your scan! I loved ours but the pics aren't so clear, looking forward to our dating scan next week as the pics from them are usually pretty good.

Bonbon250 · 23/09/2019 15:39

Hi all, just joining too if that’s okay. I’m 9 weeks today and currently on the sofa with a coldy bug which seems to have totally suppressed all my symptoms apart from hunger. My nausea has stopped and whilst the tiredness was extreme last week, and I’m still tired this week it’s more a feeling of being drained (think from the fever, headaches and dizziness). Initially I thought the headaches and dizziness were just symptoms but the fever means it must be a bug. My scan is on the 16th and really can’t wait. Although so nervous. So weird you get through your first midwife apt and all the way to 9 weeks and you’re the only one that’s tested you’re pregnant! Fingers crossed everything’s okay, had a miscarriage 4 years ago and really want to have the nausea or some symptoms back.

Dawn99 · 24/09/2019 16:48

Anyone else suffering with headaches? I’ve had a few lately but today’s was particularly bad. I drink lots of water so don’t think it’s dehydration. I don’t like to take tablets if I can avoid it. Not sure paracetamol would even help and I can’t take anything stonger 😕
