Congratulations @itakephotos

Wow I'm missing all the births and so jealous of everyone having their babies! 40+3 and no sign of baby, could cry even thinking about it - and it's all I think about right now! What can I do? (I know there is nothing I can do as I have searched far and wide for days looking at ways to encourage labour). Am planned to have a sweep on Monday (thought makes me ill but I don't want a CS again so rather a spontaneous natural delivery) and an induction on Wednesday if baby is still not here. They are reticent to let me past 41 weeks due to previous CS and size of baby. My stomach is entirely baby and I think I might even be losing weight so can see she is definitely over 8lbs.

Dipsy77 · 14/09/2019 06:52

Congratulations @itakephotos Smile

kyles101 · 14/09/2019 07:11

Oh @Horehound it's so difficult isn't it. Breastfeeding definitely isn't the easier option I thought t would be. In fact, the demands are pretty relentless. If it helps, I think feeding out and about is easier than feeding at home in front of people you know. At home (unless we have company 😳) I have a whole boob out too, so it is much more difficult trying to do it discretely. What I would say is practice a couple of different holds - maybe when baby is half fed, so not hangry but not sleepy. Thy don't have to be the ones you'd use at home, they just need to be good enough to get a feed in whilst out and about. Have you not been out yet? I suspect that's not making you feel great either... when we were on a weight gain drive DS had lots of little extra formula top ups and if anything a bottle helped his latch become deeper. I wouldn't be too scared of giving the very occasional pre made formula feed whilst you're getting your holds etc sorted. For a fussy day just tell yourself that it's a growth spurt and it'll be helping your supply increase - both good things Smile

Horehound · 14/09/2019 07:29

@kyles101 we have been a 4.5k walk where I fed him in the car and any other time we've been out really just to my parents, I've taken a bottle of expressed milk with us so haven't needed to bf out yet. So I can still do that without using formula but I just thought I'd be able to bf out and about now!
Latch is ok, it's very good in the laying down position, it varies in other positions. Sometimes i think we get a good one then next time we try, it all goes to pot.
I just don't see how I'm going to get a latch and him feeding on me outside the house. It seems impossible actually

Puglover88 · 14/09/2019 07:37

@itakephotos congratulations!! He’s gorgeous! Hope you’re both doing well! I’m so jealous of all these babies arriving - I want to meet mine! Been having period type cramps and lower back pain only during the night for the last two nights so hoping that might be the start of something.

DustyDoorframes · 14/09/2019 08:19

Congratulations @itakephotos !!!! What a gorgeous boy!!! Were you planning a homebirth?
Oooh @Puglover88 maybe you next, fingers crossed!

@challengeyourreality and hopefully you too- remember every day that passes it's more likely at this point.

@Horehound I know it feels like ages, but remember that it really is super early days still. The fact that you get a good latch lying down is brilliant- and means you both really recognise a good latch in other positions too, when it works out. It will come! Also, apart from breastfeeding, we are not in the habit of whipping our boobs out in cafes or in front of our fathers in law, so it's not surprising it takes a good while to get comfy with it. Things which helped me- A frame bras (which cover more boob when they are clipped down- so basically two full cup layers, and the bottom one has a hole round the nipple, John Lewis does them among others), one-up-one-down tops (so normal vest under normal top, both reasonably stretchy, pull up top leaving horrible belly covered by vest and baby, pull down vest to under boob, leaving top of the chest covered by top. Feels much less exposing than buttons, to me), and hanging out with other breastfeeding women (nct group, but also baby groups with slightly older babies whose mums were a bit more experienced. If you've all got your boobs out in a semi-private space it feels a LOT less weird!)
But most importantly, you need to do what works for YOU, day by day. And whatever that is, is absolutely fine.

My growth scan was all fine yesterday, next one in 10 days at 39+1, assuming I'm still pregnant. Eviction campaign starts on Tuesday after my mum (ie, the childcare...) arrives to stay!

happydays00 · 14/09/2019 08:23

Congratulations @itakephotos he's absolutely beautiful! We have a baby Max too! Was yours a planned home birth?

@Horehound - I am no breastfeeding expert but try not to feel discouraged. You've made such huge progress already, you and baby will get there (if that's what you want). I do 50/50 expressing and breastfeeding depending on where I am, who I'm with etc. I carry a pacca pod cool bag with 2 mini freezer blocks in when I take an expressed bottle and this lasts all day. Do you have a breastfeeding group near you that you could go to?

Puglover88 · 14/09/2019 08:29

@DustyDoorframes that’s good that the growth scan was all fine! What’s your eviction plan? I’m currently drinking lots of raspberry leaf tea and bouncing on my ball but that’s about it!

DustyDoorframes · 14/09/2019 08:40

@Puglover88 my plan isn't any more complicated than yours- more colostrum harvesting as that can get things going apparently??? More exercise??? And Sweeps- they start next Friday...

KnobJockey · 14/09/2019 08:52

Seems daft to admit that I'm jealous of the sweeps- I'm 39+4, and my midwife has said that they won't do a sweep until 41. That seems forever away. No idea why.

SJP3 · 14/09/2019 09:35

Jealous of the sweeps too! I'm booked in for one at 40+3 but they won't do it earlier than due date. 41 weeks is a bit harsh!

All I'm good for is sitting down at the moment. No energy, no sleep and all feels a bit endless. Come on baby!

Baby Max is just lovely - congratulations.

DustyDoorframes · 14/09/2019 09:47

The midwives can't just decide to do them without doctor's orders until 1 week before you are being induced- most hospitals induce at some point between 41 and 42 weeks "automatically". As I've an induction booked just before 40 weeks I can be swept sooner, lucky me. You're not missing much though! And it's pretty hard to prove the do much, as of course every day that passes you are more likely to give birth anyway.
@Dipsy77 did your come to anything?? Hopefully it did and you are now a bit too busy for MN!!!

kyles101 · 14/09/2019 09:48

@Horehound you'll do it, I promise. Go somewhere fairly quiet next week like a shopping type place where you know there's a cafe with comfy seats. Aim for a non lunch time feed to coincide so the it really won't be busy. Dash there as soon as it looks like he's getting hungry. Ideally take someone with you so they can get the coffees. The latch just needs to be good enough, sometimes I can feel it's not perfect if out, but it will do. I think it's one of those things to do sooner rather than later, you don't want it to build up into a scary thing in your head as you'll be all tense.
And deffo yes to everything @DustyDoorframes Has said - especially scrappy top under normal top to do one up one down, I feel way more confident that way than with bf top.
And it is still really early days, you absolutely don't have to go out unless you want to. I'm just rubbish at staying st home, but the lovely newborn snuggles could tempt even me not to venture too far!! These are just the things that have helped me.
Also, a quick swaddle if flailing hands get in the way makes boob flashing less likely.

Hugs to the ladies still waiting, the last bit drags like the week before Christmas when you're 10.

IVEgottheDECAF · 14/09/2019 10:21

The last few days / weeks of full term pregnancy are the longest EVER. All the waiting and anticipation! But then it is over in a flash!

On one hand i cant believe our baby boy has been here 7 days now! On the other i can barely remember life before him!

Dipsy77 · 14/09/2019 11:45

No still here although cramps are stronger and still bleeding but pink !! Passed a clot this morning but told not to worry about that starting to get back ache so going for a walk in a bit and then the ball this afternoon ! X

kyles101 · 14/09/2019 11:52

All sounding very promising @Dipsy77

Megan2018 · 14/09/2019 13:26

Finally got a bed, but catheter induction failed, my cervix is completely useless. Blood bath! I have problems with smears so not a surprise. They’ve defaulted to pessary so got a long wait to see if it works now.

Dipsy77 · 14/09/2019 13:40

Great news on the bed not so much on the blood hope all goes well x

IVEgottheDECAF · 14/09/2019 14:01

Yay for the bed! You are on your way now megan it may take a while and not be overly pleasant but it will be SO worth it!

IVEgottheDECAF · 14/09/2019 14:02

Make sure you get plenty of rest and eat too dipsy!

DustyDoorframes · 14/09/2019 14:16

Fingers crossed @Dipsy77 ! And yes to rest as well as bouncing. If nothing else, it looks like if you do need tomorrow's induction it will be speedy if you are slowly starting...
Yay for the bed @Megan2018 ! Boo for the bloodbath and the pessary though. Fingers crossed it does do its thing ASAP.

BBell2 · 14/09/2019 17:02

@itakephotos congratulations on little Max, lovely hair!
@Dipsy77 sounds very promising, hope it ramps up for you.

IVEgottheDECAF · 14/09/2019 17:13

Any news @Dipsy77 and @Megan2018? Fingers crossed for both of you!

Dipsy77 · 14/09/2019 17:57

Still a few pains but i think it will be induction tomorrow just hoping there’re is a bed !i think I lost my Mucus plug earlier so hopefully induction will be quick 😀

IVEgottheDECAF · 14/09/2019 18:02

Dipsy i had my sweep on due date (teatimeish) it was uncomfortable much more than the one i had at end of last pregnancy which had me in labour within 12 hours. I started spotting and cramping that evening. Continued the next day. Late at night at 40+1 contractions started getting to some kind of regular although not great pattern. Baby born tea time 40+2. So 48ish hours after sweep.
