Hi everyone! I can't find a May 2020 group yet. Most of you don't even know you're expecting yet. I'm due May 1st and got my bfp on 9 dpo. So I'm only 3 weeks 3 days. I feel like I may be lonely in here for a little while.
Looking forward to being joined by other mummies to be :)
This is my 3rd pregnancy. 1st was 7 years ago and I have a 7 year old son. 2nd was 5 years ago which ended in a m/c feeling positive for my rainbow.

@flossy12 - Its standard here to have first check-up and scan from 6 weeks (not the uk). I will be almost 7 weeks on Thursday.
A standard pregnancy with no complications will still have 8 scans/ appointments with a consultant, and then extra midwife ones ontop. A midwife does mainly after care here though.
Its all part of general healthcare, not private or any extra cost.

flossy12 · 09/09/2019 14:13

@Allyism you got that quick then! rang today and the new pregnancy clinic took my details and said I might have to wait just over a week for the midwife to ring me 🤷🏼‍♀️ I'll be basically 6 weeks by then

flossy12 · 09/09/2019 14:15

@Caspianberg that's absolutely amazing! In the UK if your classed as low risk or a 'normal' pregnancy you only get your 12week and 20week scan 🙁

Allyism · 09/09/2019 15:04

@flossy12 I’ll be just over 8weeks by the time my appointment comes around - I knew there would be a wait so self referred pretty much as soon as we got bfp

freyahan · 09/09/2019 15:30

@flossy12 where i am in the uk if your low risk you get 12, 20, 32 and 39/40 scans

Skiaddicted · 09/09/2019 15:32

@freyahan where roughly are you? That sounds really good in terms of care!

We had 3 private scans last time to reassure me but this time around I'm not sure we can afford it Sad

flossy12 · 09/09/2019 15:32

@Allyism ahh feeling like I should have done that 🙁 I know all the ladies at the antenatal clinic at my local hospital as well 🤦🏼‍♀️

@freyahan that's amazing!! I'm in Yorkshire we only get 12 and 20 unless they're worried about anything

AlmostAlwyn · 09/09/2019 15:40

@Caspianberg are you in Europe (if I can ask)? I'm also not in the UK (in Europe), and have first appointment with my gynaecologist at 8 weeks, then scans once a month until the last month when it's once a week, then transfer to delivery hospital a couple of weeks before due date. The 12 and 20 week scans are with a specialist on top of that.

My friend, who's a GP in the UK, says it's "excessive" Grin, but it's really nice to be able to see baby so regularly (and my gynaecologist just has to press a button on his ultrasound machine and it shows 3D images!). It must be so nerve-wracking to only be able to see baby twice!

freyahan · 09/09/2019 15:45

@flossy12 im in hampshire on the sussex/hampshire border x

freyahan · 09/09/2019 15:46

@flossy12 oh but I'm having an early scan this week I'm paying for as i don't wanna wait til 12 weeks lol

Caspianberg · 09/09/2019 15:48

@AlmostAlwym - yes Europe. I'm not sure the exact other weeks I should be going but will find out more at first scan. But it sounds similar to where you are.

mumblingpenguin · 09/09/2019 15:55

@flossy12 and @mintbear the booking appointment can be anywhere up to 12 weeks. The only official scans you get will be at 12 and 20 weeks unless you qualify for the GROW scheme or have a medical condition.

They use the 12 weeks scan to refine your due date. I found they weren't interested in knowing my ovulation date last time.

@complexsimplicity I had two mcs before a full term successful pregnancy. Personally we announce very late (in fact most people only knew when baby arrived!). I was able to hide it until close to 25 weeks. Some friends and colleagues we told at 12 weeks (not my choice but DH can't keep a secret) and I just told one or two close female friends each time, who I would be comfortable knowing I had miscarriage. We will do similarly this time and won't say anything until we have a positive 12 week scan. Last times we both told our parents immediately but at the moment we've had a close family member pass away so I want to be sure I don't mc before I share the news this time.

mumblingpenguin · 09/09/2019 15:59

Also @complexsimplicity my successful pregnancy was on my second cycle after an mc.

flossy12 · 09/09/2019 16:29

@freyahan ahh Okayy I see 😁 yeah we might as go abroad before my 12 week scan and night end up having to tell parents then

flossy12 · 09/09/2019 16:31

@mumblingpenguin Only thing I have in under active thyroid but I know it can affect the foetus but not if properly controlled as far as I know so I have no idea x

May2311 · 09/09/2019 16:50

@TummyTurtle thanks! That's put my mind at rest🙈 I am just worrying about everything I really need to try and be more chilled.

TummyTurtle · 09/09/2019 17:00

@Sunshine8888 I am also struggling with the afternoon slump. Yesterday I was so so bloated I felt awful. Have decided to drink peppermint/ginger tea instead of decaf coffee or tea, and eat smaller snacks throughout the day rather than breakfast, lunch & dinner. Already feeling loads better, much less bloated.

AmIseeingRight · 09/09/2019 18:09

@May2311 i took antibiotics, think it was amoxicillin with DC1 @ 8/9wk due to UTI and all is well.

i'm tired all the time and the underlying nausea is getting me down and grumpy, plus still have insomnia so that not helping. 1st trimester is the hard one, i remember really enjoying 2nd trimester so very keen to get to 12wks + but its all worth it for a healthy happy baby at the end.

Victoria315 · 09/09/2019 18:34

Hi everyone.

5 weeks + 3 today and still no symptoms.

Reading about those of you experiencing nausea and sore boobs make me worried about my lack of symptoms.

Is anyone else in the same boat!?

AlmostAlwyn · 09/09/2019 18:38

@Victoria315 yep, 6+2 and no symptoms here either! Perhaps a bit of shortness of breath, and some very mild occasional cramping but that's it so far Smile

Victoria315 · 09/09/2019 18:41

@AlmostAlwyn

My taste buds have changed (I think). I’m not as interested in certain foods I used to enjoy but I don’t know if I’m just making that up!

mumblingpenguin · 09/09/2019 18:45

@AmIseeingRight I don't remember liking any bit of pregnancy 😂😂🤦‍♀️

ChaoticKate · 09/09/2019 18:52

@Victoria315 In my first pregnancy I didn’t really get any symptoms until about week 6. No symptoms really isn’t anything to worry about. Lots of people don’t get morning sickness or nausea and 5 weeks is still very early for a lot of other pregnancy symptoms. You might be one of those lucky souls that sails through the first trimester. I know symptoms are reassuring but lack of them shouldn’t be worrying.

lovepositivity · 09/09/2019 19:06

@Victoria315 I'm in the same boat! I'm 5+5 and very little symptom wise- and the few signs I think I've had, I'm sure I've just imagined them! I've previously had a mmc so my anxiety is also sky high!

Thanks for your post @ChaoticKate, that's really reassuring.

I have a 6 week scan on Thursday so hoping everything will look ok then x
