@Moraxella what languages did you pick? What age are your DC? I wouldn't say planning those activities make you a pushy parent, you're just creating opportunities for them to learn and grow.

Stroan · 13/08/2019 07:56

Ha ha @moraxella I hope one of he languages is Chinese or Japanese? You really need mini to be pushing boundaries ASAP.

I think some of my family think I'm a pushy parent because DD does swimming and gymnastics (she's 3.5). I just want her to have confidence in group settings that I never had, and the classes are still all about having fun but she's also interacting and developing friendships. We had nothing like that growing up (very rural!) and I was painfully shy as a child. My family all think I'm a bit mad!

Moraxella · 13/08/2019 07:56

Ah no I’m so sorry I was being sarcastic 😅😅 the thread totally freaked me out, I am not hothousing my kids into medicine, I can’t think of a worse career to be forced into!

TheCraicDealer · 13/08/2019 08:08

You're just right @Stroan, I'm going to try and do the same. Even as an adult I don't like being taken out of my comfort zone or being in crowds of new people, and I don't want her growing up feeling like that. It'll be baby ballet and swimming or whatever else I can find!

Moraxella · 13/08/2019 08:20

Craic and stroan you have given me good ideas 👍🏼

challengeyourreality · 13/08/2019 08:34

Sorry I completely misread that! So you can probably see from my answer where I stand on planned activities - although I was pushed a lot as a child so I just let dd and ds choose what they want themselves and if they want to stop then that's okay. Dd is desperate to horse ride but official lessons start here from 8 due to bone formation so she has a good 1,5 years to go. She is asking about piano so I'll see if we can fit that in. They're both desperate for their swimming diploma too. Don't want to promise too much until I have a routine with the new babe.
The baby group activities I am definitely in to - but mainly for myself for socialising.

DustyDoorframes · 13/08/2019 08:34

@Stroan I'm sure your DD will be fine! Everyone parents in the best way for them and their circumstances- and there's been no reason to leave her so far and that's fine! DC2 coming along can be a lovely chance for DC1 to get closer to their Dad (that happened big time with us- I got demoted to parent B quite spectacularly- DC1 practicing rejecting me was definitely part of his coping mechanism but we are really close again now)

IVEgottheDECAF · 13/08/2019 08:45

My dd is going to possibly be a nightmare if i have to stay in hospital and shes 6 Blush she is a BIG mummies girl! She will need lots of distractions.

boodles101 · 13/08/2019 08:49

Well I was up from about 2. The BH all died down once I got out of bed. I do stil have the headache from after the steroid injection last night so I wonder if it's related. I'll ask them later when I go for the 2nd injection.

Also some of you may remember my DH had to reapply for his job a couple of months ago, he will find out this morning whether he is remaining in his current role, a different role or being made redundant. I really hope it's good news!!

IVEgottheDECAF · 13/08/2019 08:52

Fingers crossed for your dh boodles

DustyDoorframes · 13/08/2019 09:00

Oh god @boodles101 that's grim timing!!!! Fingers very crossed!!!!!!

kyles101 · 13/08/2019 09:07

@Moraxella I vaguely thought about Botox for the same but someone told me once you start you have to carry on otherwise it looks even worse! Plus found a really good cream by thalgo that sort of plumps it out, wasn't cheap but does mean that I can look unconcerned on special occasions 😉

Everything crossed for good news for you @boodles101

I've only just got up - shocking!!

Stroan · 13/08/2019 09:10

@boodles101 fingers crossed it's good news X

@dustydoorframes thank you, that's very reassuring. My Mum arrives on Thursday and I will be completely forgotten anyway!

@kyles101 that's maternity leave done right!

DustyDoorframes · 13/08/2019 09:21

Yes @kyles101 gold star!!!
@Stroan oddly my mum got relegated too- until the day DC2 was born she was the bees knees and trumped everyone, then the second she was born it was Dad or nothing for a bit. But we all got over it in the end!

Florencenotflo · 13/08/2019 09:25

Dd is 3.5 and doesn't do any activities. To be honest I felt quite guilty about it but a friend of mine said leave it! They will soon find what they like and activities will take over your life. Her eldest is really into (and really good) at singing, dancing and performing arts. She's 13 and does upwards of 8 hours a week of different dance classes, singing lessons, rehearsals for shows etc. It's never ending. Not to mention £££.

We have said that Dd will start swimming lessons in the new year. I think all kids should learn to swim, we live near the beach too, not that we let her go off unsupervised but it's a good skill to have. If she was to choose an activity right now it would probably be martial arts or football. The child is crazy and has endless energy!

My 6 year old doesnt do activities outside of school. She was so worn out by starting school itself that it wasnt worth it. I am starting to look into it now though.

The older two swim, i agree swimming is important.

boodles101 · 13/08/2019 09:32

I got my son swimming lessons for his 2nd birthday then discovered the twins! So he hasn't actually been yet and isn't likely to go for a while now!!

DH just heard, he gets to keep his current job!! Massive sigh of relief here!!

IVEgottheDECAF · 13/08/2019 09:33

🥳 brilliant news boodles!

challengeyourreality · 13/08/2019 09:43

Great news boodles

DustyDoorframes · 13/08/2019 09:50

Boodles phew!!!!!!!!!!
My eldest swims (but largely because he goes with my friend's son and we have a lovely chat while they swim!). That's it for us!

Puglover88 · 13/08/2019 10:04

Oh my gosh it’s been super busy on here, I’ve tried to read back but I’d need to start writing down notes on who said what - my memory is mush! 🤦‍♀️

@boodles101 have you been given a new date for your cs then? For twins, those weights don’t seem bad as they’re a little bit more restricted with space! My friend’s baby was 3Ib ish when he was born and he’s absolute tank now! Congrats to your OH on the job news - that must be a big relief for you both!

I live 5 mins from the beach and me and my OH are both into our water sports so this little one will probably be a water baby! My local pool does a water babies class from 2 months old and I bought a baby swimming costume on a whim last week as it was sooo cute!

@Moraxella not had experience with Botox myself but from people I know who’ve had it, I think it’s only a temporary fix and you have to keep getting injections. I have horrendous spider veins on my legs, have had for a good few years. I even bought some leg foundation once that did jack s**t!

Am I right in thinking someone is being induced this Friday?

IVEgottheDECAF · 13/08/2019 10:08

I think it might be someone thur and someone fri?

Megan2018 · 13/08/2019 10:17

Fab news @boodles101, its all coming together now!

I’m hoping mini megan loves ponies-she’ll be in the saddle as soon as she can sit (lead rein pony on standby), but if she doesn’t enjoy it thats fine too-she’ll just spend more time with her Dad.

We’ll definitely do swimming lessons when old enough but I’m not pushing anything else-we’ll see what she is like first. I don’t think they necessarily need to do much but I am conscious she’ll be an only child so once school age we’ll need to give her company of kids in some form or another

Puglover88 · 13/08/2019 10:22

@Megan2018 I’m also conscious about socialising ours as she’ll be an only child! DH said we’ll get her a dog for company when she’s a bit older but I think human interaction will be needed as well!

Stroan · 13/08/2019 10:29

2 c-sections this week. Happydays00 on Thursday and me on Friday.
