Good luck florencenotflo hope they don't keep you waiting all day, but so exciting you'll have your baby by tonight!!

kyles101 · 23/08/2019 10:47

@IVEgottheDECAF I can't believe that!! Well, knowing HMRC I can but still, 10 weeks owed!!

Good luck @Florencenotflo !

Cleaning cleaning cleaning today, it's actually quite nice to keep on top of everything for a change and everywhere's getting more and more clean and tidy with each pass over. We weren't "dirty" by any means, but everything was kind of only just passable since our cleaner abandoned us if you know what I mean.

TheCraicDealer · 23/08/2019 10:51

Good luck @Florencenotflo! You got this!!!

My edd is 25/09. Still feels like absolutely ages to go, especially with all these gorgeous babies making an appearance!

IVEgottheDECAF · 23/08/2019 11:05

Cleaning cleaning cleaning here too! Was going to attempt walk to the shops but fanny daggers are putting me off!

Moraxella · 23/08/2019 11:27

Week 37 and the feet swelling has arrived 😩 I really want to have him in August so he gets into school earlier 🤞

IVEgottheDECAF · 23/08/2019 11:34

I cant decide what is best re the school thing moraxella

BridgetJonesDaiquiri · 23/08/2019 12:54

@IVEgottheDECAF my induction is on the 31/08 so I'm definitely leaving the Aug/Sept school thing to chance! Last induction was 40 hours though.

Megan2018 · 23/08/2019 12:55

I’m the opposite, really want a September birthday as being in education I know the attainment gap stats are stark! I am hopeful we’ll get to 1 Sept though

kyles101 · 23/08/2019 13:02

How's yours going @IVEgottheDECAF ? Actually rather satisfying I'm finding!! Having a little mn and bird watching break at the minute though!! Still not having many fanny daggers - I assume that means baby is not engaged.

Everything crossed for September for us too @Megan2018 , even the amount of money someone pointed out we'd save on childcare the other day couldn't sway me. They all even out eventually I'm sure but it's such a huge age difference when they're small, and I think it's really noticeable again when they start secondary.

db92 · 23/08/2019 13:38

@Megan2018 @kyles101 we were desperate for September not August too. Although I'm beginning to think August wouldn't be so bad now with how uncomfortable and whale like I'm feeling with 2 and a bit weeks to go

Megan2018 · 23/08/2019 13:42

They don’t even out though @kyles101
Late Summer born underachieve throughout their education sadly, the stats are not great. Obviously you can make it up with extra help etc but the majority of late summer born, especially boys do poorer throughout.
Obviously if her health is at risk then I’ll be relieved to have her here safely in Aug but I am legs crossed until 1 Sept! Grin

BridgetJonesDaiquiri · 23/08/2019 13:53

To be fair, friends of mine at school that were late August born still did v well (Oxbridge) and my DH and my DF are both late summer born (end July/Aug) and have excelled both academically and professionally. Its v dependant on the child and i'd be more worried about the social aspect than academic.

A v late August baby could be fairly easily deferred though these days I'm sure if they weren't ready to go to school at 4, given recent case law and policy.

kyles101 · 23/08/2019 14:04

@BridgetJonesDaiquiri yes the social aspect concerns me too.

With the deferring thing though, it's my understanding that you only delay the start date? They still join the same year group they would have been in anyway? But just join them in the January rather than September. Which I can't see being beneficial as friendships, learning etc will have already started.

Seconding obviously health of baby and mother is the main consideration, but as I'm feeling well and think everything's fine with babe might as well hope for the statistical advantage too.

Same sort of thinking as breastfeeding in my mind, of course bottle feeding is fine too, and I turned out ok 😉 but any slight extra benefit may as well try to be achieved, but won't stress about it unduly if it doesn't work out.

IVEgottheDECAF · 23/08/2019 14:06

I think it largely depends on the child. I have a summer born although not august child. He is exceeding expected levels each year, first in class to free read and tell the time. I also have an easter born who has really struggled with everything school wise.

BridgetJonesDaiquiri · 23/08/2019 14:08

@kyles101 After a recent(ish) case, parents can now apply to defer their children by a whole year - they'd then start reception in the September following their 5th birthday.

"Parents of summer-born children will often be concerned that their child is not ready to start school in the September following their fourth birthday. If this is the case, parents can request to defer their child’s entry to school by a whole year until they reach compulsory school age and be admitted to Reception rather than Year 1 with their chronological peers. This means that a summer born child would not start school at all during the academic year after their fourth birthday. (Section 2.17 School Admissions Code). The law only provides the right to apply for reception deferment to next September; it does not guarantee that this will be granted."

IVEgottheDECAF · 23/08/2019 14:09

Both the two dc i have mentioned have great social skills fwiw but that may be linked to the large family i suspect. It is my eldest child (winter born) who struggles socially.

IVEgottheDECAF · 23/08/2019 14:12

kyles cleaning came to a stop as i decided to walk to the shops, however i dont think i will be walking that far again until this baby is out! 2000 stabby steps is not good.

DustyDoorframes · 23/08/2019 14:13

Hopefully by the time our lot hit school deferring summer-borns will be easy. I know people who have had to really battle for it (even since the recent changes!!!!! Some heads are really weird about it!!!) others for whom it's been a straightforward formality.
Decaf wtf re MA???? Are they going back in time???? Argh!

BridgetJonesDaiquiri · 23/08/2019 14:19

It's a difficult one - have the oldest child for the year (say born first week of September) and risk them "coasting" potentially, or have v late August child and risk them being behind. My other concern is that a v early Sept born would have an additional year at nursery when lots of his/her little friends would be heading off to school. My DD (April born) is doing well at nursery and is keeping up with the older kids in her room developmentally - I'd worry that she'd get bored if they headed off to school a year before her and she was left with the littler ones. It wouldn't matter of course when she actually started school though and made new friends, but that last year at nursery could be a struggle. There's no perfect answer - maybe should have tried for a November baby lol.

boodles101 · 23/08/2019 14:29

I tried for September baby, purposely stayed on the pill until a certain time just incase things happened straight away, which of course they did. I really wanted oldest baby in the year. Obviously that all went completely out the window when we discovered the twins!

Karigan195 · 23/08/2019 14:36

My eldest was born early September. We’ve deferred so he is the oldest in his class and I’m glad I did as he is a young 10 at present. He has another year to mature until senior school hits!

Karigan195 · 23/08/2019 14:38

How is everyone doing? Days are merging here and I’ve lost track completely of what is going on!

Picture of my little chap just because he’s cute :)

See karigan my 10 year old isnt 11 until the summer, just about to start year 6. He would have been fine going to high school this year! They are all so different.

IVEgottheDECAF · 23/08/2019 14:41

Ah look at him! I love them when their clothes are just that bit too big! He looks chilled!
